Senior Della Lyle added to the MSUB team total points with a seventh place finish in the women’s 5,000 meters.

Senior Robert Peterson finishes fourth in the men’s 1500 meters and senior Della Lyle places seventh in the women’s 5,000 meters during Day 2 of the GNAC Championships. MONMOUTH, Ore. – Senior Robert Peterson finished his final GNAC Championships with a fourth-place result in the men’s 1500 meters while senior Della Lyle placed seventh in the women’s 5,000 meters during Day 2 of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship held at McArthur Field hosted by Western Oregon Saturday. Peterson held onto his ranking with his finish during the final day of the conference championships. Heading into the race, the senior was ranked fourth. Living up to his spot, Peterson crossed the finish line in a closely contested race, just .01 seconds off the podium, clocking in a time of 3:55.27.


Western Oregon’s David Ribich won the event in 3:54.18. Simon Fraser’s Cameron Proceviat placed second in 3:54.38. Outpacing Peterson by the slimmest margin, SFU’s Marc-Antoine Rouleau finished third in 3:55.26. Lyle moved up five spots in the GNAC rankings for a seventh-place finish in the women’s 5,00 meters in 16:50.74, lowering her own MSUB record by 30 seconds. The St. Vincent Healthcare Athlete of the Day scored all 10 of the MSUB women’s team points with her eight points from Friday’s runner-up result in the women’s steeplechase combined with the two points from Saturday’s result in the 5,000 meters. Austin Lindquist added a point with an eighth-place finish in the men’s 110 meter hurdles finishing in 16.09. Lindquist was also part of the men’s 4x100 meter relay team that placed seventh in 43.90. The team of Kaelen Shay, Nate Vanderby, Lindquist, and Cameron Stanek was part of the first event run on Day 2 of the Championships. The Yellowjacket men’s 4x400 team of Lindquist, Stanek, Vanderby, and Peterson finished eighth in 3:28.73 for another point. Jorey Egeland placed 14th in the men’s 5,000 meters with a personal-best time of 15:22.54. Garrett Love was 18th in 15:40.25. In the men’s hammer throw, Nels Flanagan placed 14th with a throw of 43.70m. The sophomore had his highest finish of the championships, and just out of the points, with a ninth-place result in the javelin with a heave of 50.06m. Freshman Quincy Wittman finished 18th with a toss of 40.47m. Wittman was also 16th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.42m. Freshmen Shaniah Schwend and Janessa Williams competed in the women’s triple jump. Schwend completed her first GNAC Championships with an 11th place finish with a mark of 10.44m. Williams placed 13th with a jump of 10.33m. Alaska Anchorage won the men’s team title with a total of 163.5 points over Western Washington at 128 points. Seattle Pacific edged-out Central Washington 148.5 points to 143.5 points for the women’s team title.


THE BUZZ: With their times in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, Peterson and Lyle will await to see if their times hold up for a spot in the NCAA Division II National Championships…the D2 championships are set for May 13-14, in Tampa, Fla., hosted by the University of Tampa…Peterson finishes his GNAC track and field career with seven all-conference finishes and three individual titles…a transfer this year, Lyle had an all-conference result in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
