Sam Zook and Chuck Carr of MSUB’s men’s track and field team earn USTFCCCA Indoor All-Region honors for their record-breaking performances during the 2016-17 season. NEW ORLEANS – After stellar indoor track and field seasons, Montana State University Billings men’s track and field junior Sam Zook and freshman Chuck Carr have earned United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches’ Association All-West Region honors announced the organization Monday. Zook broke the Yellowjackets’ school record in the 60-meter race multiple times this season, highlighted by a personalbest time of 6.85. Carr posted a season-best of 6-feet, 8-inches in the high jump, also a school record. “It’s great to see Sam and Chuck receive recognition for their accomplishments this past indoor season,” said MSUB head coach Dave Coppock. “Both of them qualified provisionally for the NCAA national championships, which is also
quite an accomplishment. Sam is a junior and Chuck is only a freshman, so they’ve got a lot to look forward to in future seasons.” The regional awards were handed out to athletes who held a top-5 mark in their respective event within their region. More than 1,000 men and women across the country earned all-region honors, including 82 athletes from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. Zook’s top time of his indoor season ranked him second in the GNAC overall, and the junior captured the conference title in the 60-meters at last week’s GNAC Indoor Championships. He twice earned GNAC Player of the Week honors this indoor season, and was an all-conference selection by virtue of winning his race at the indoor championships. Zook’s record-breaking run came at the Mountain State Games in Pocatello, Idaho on Feb. 11. With his best mark of the year, Carr ranks tied for fourth in the GNAC in the high jump. The freshman set the school record at the 2017 Dave Little Alumni Mile, in Spearfish, S.D., on Jan 21. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
