Posting a personal-best time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase last week, junior Jorey Egeland earns GNAC Runner of the Week honors. PORTLAND, Ore. – Running his way to the third-best 3,000-meter steeplechase time of the 2017 Great Northwest Athletic Conference season thus far, junior Jorey Egeland has been named the GNAC Runner of the Week announced by the conference office Monday. “We are excited to see Jorey get this honor,” said MSUB head coach Dave Coppock. “He has worked very hard this spring, and really put in the miles after indoor season. We have had a lot of success in the steeple in the past, and feel that it is an event we can be very competitive in the conference. Jorey is very close to a provisional NCAA championship mark, and we think he’ll be able to hit that by the end of the season.” Egeland won the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Bauer Invitational, hosted by South Dakota School of Mines on Saturday. He covered the distance in a personal-best time of 9:29.49, to rise to the top among the field of seven

competitors. Egeland’s converted time of 9:22.51 is the third-best mark in the GNAC this season, and is just over five seconds away from a provisional national qualifying time. It was the second week in-a-row that Egeland had a strong showing in the steeple, after taking second place at the Tom Benich Invitational in Colorado last week in a time of 9:38.91. This is the first career weekly honor for Egeland, and the second of the outdoor season for the ‘Jackets after Sam Zook won the award as well.
