MSUB’s women’s golf team completes the Western New Mexico Invitational on Tuesday shooting a two-round total of 614 to finish in 15th place.

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Wrapping up competition at the Western New Mexico Invitational on Tuesday, the Montana State University Billings women’s golf team shot a team score of 308 at Coldwater Golf Club to finish in 15th place with a tworound total of 614.

The Yellowjackets shot a team score of 306 on Day 1 of the event Monday, and followed with a 308 Tuesday on the par72, 5,870-yard course.

Leading the way for the ‘Jackets was freshman Kortney McNeil who shot a 74 on Tuesday after firing a 73 on Monday to finish with a two-round total of 147. McNeil wound up in a tie for 22nd place overall at the tournament.

Sophomore Sammy Walter cut four strokes off of her first round total, shooting a 75 on Day 2 to pull into a tie for 57th place. Walter shot a 79 on Day 1, and finished the tournament with a score of 154 overall.

In 61st place was sophomore Bailee Dexter, who finished the event with a two-round total of 155 (75-80). Freshman Anna DeMars was close behind with a 158, as she shot 79 each time through the course.

Shealyn Hafer completed the field for MSUB, shooting a 166 (85-81) and tying for 92nd place on the leaderboard.

Cal Baptist won the overall team title at the event with a 567 (280-287), placing four golfers in the top-10 and holding off second-place St. Mary’s University by three strokes.

Building off of an incredible round of 64 on Day 1, Caroline Ordian of University of Redlands held on for medalist honors with an even-par 72 in the final round of the event.

Fellow Great Northwest Athletic Conference school Western Washington also competed at the event, and the Vikings placed third with a team score of 574 (289-285).

Walter earned St. Vincent Healthcare Player of the Day honors for MSUB as she displayed the best improvement between rounds for the Yellowjackets.

AHEAD: MSUB next travels to Denver for the NCAA DII National Preview tournament, scheduled for Sept. 28-29 at CommonGround Golf Course. The tournament will feature premier competition from across Division II as the ‘Jackets will see how they stack up against their peers.
