Kortney McNeil earns GNAC Golfer of the Week honors after finishing tied for eighth place at the NCAA Division II National Championship Preview tourney last week with a two-round score of 146 (71-75). PORTLAND, Ore. – After finishing in the top-10 at the NCAA Division II National Championship Preview last week, Montana State University Billings women’s golf freshman Kortney McNeil has earned Great Northwest Athletic Conference Golfer of the Week honors announced by the conference office Monday. “I am very happy for Kortney, as she is well deserving of this award,” commented MSUB head coach Shawn O’Brien. “She had a fantastic tournament at the National Preview.” McNeil, a Billings Senior High School graduate, shot a 146 (71-75) to finish tied for eighth place at last week’s tournament. Her 1-under par 71 in the first round was one stroke away from the MSUB individual single-round record of 70, held by Kalli Stanhope, and it contributed to MSUB’s record-breaking team single round score of 297. McNeil finished the tournament with five birdies and did not three-putt on any hole in either round.

McNeil currently ranks fourth in the GNAC in scoring average so far this fall at 75.2 and has placed in the top-10 in two of the three events she has competed in so far. McNeil is the second MSUB women’s golfer to earn the weekly honor from the conference this year, as fellow freshman Anna DeMars was named Golfer of the Week for Sept. 14-20. McNeil and the Yellowjackets are competing at the Dixie State University Invitational this week, with the first round taking place Monday and the second and final round being played Tuesday at Sand Hollow Resort in Utah. The Yellowjackets will then host the MSUB Fall Invitational this weekend, scheduled for Oct. 8-9 at Pryor Creek Golf Club in Huntley, Mont. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
