MSUB’s women’s soccer team spent time working with students at Boulder Elementary School on Thursday, as part of Yellowjacket Athletics’ community involvement initiative. BILLINGS, Mont. – Student-athletes and coaches from the Montana State University Billings women’s soccer team spent time volunteering at Boulder Elementary School on Thursday afternoon, spending time with the elementary school students and participating in a variety of activities. “We always want to give back to the community,” said MSUB head coach Wojtek Krakowiak. “They come to our games, and we have really great support from the Billings community. Giving back today was great for the kids and also for our players.” The Yellowjackets helped students create Thanksgiving turkeys constructed out of party hats and paper, as part of a teamwork project in the classroom. “It was really fun to interact with the kids, to see their active side, and to get to know them a little bit,” commented freshman Sarah Coghlan. “The opportunity to give back is an amazing feeling. Going out there and seeing how much they look up to us is a good feeling and motivator for me.”
The class was then dismissed for recess, with players accompanying students out to the playground and participating in a variety of activities. Players then signed autographs for the students, and were thanked for taking the time to get to know children at one of their local elementary schools. “Today was a blast,” said junior captain Kari Kastelic. “Just to see all of those kids get super excited when we show up is always fun. They make us laugh and give us a little break from our hectic school schedule and recovering from our busy season.” The event was part of Yellowjacket Athletics’ community involvement initiative, as student-athletes on each of MSUB’s 15 varsity teams spend time volunteering and giving back to the community throughout the year. The Yellowjackets finished their 2015 season two weeks ago at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships, wrapping up the year with an 8-7-2 record. --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
