After over a month off from competition, the MSUB women’s track and field team returns in 2016 with a meet in Bozeman, Mont. BILLINGS, Mont. – After over a month off from competition, the MSUB women’s track and field team is returning to competition with a meet in Bozeman, Mont. on Friday, Jan. 15. The Yellowjackets are set to compete at the Montana State University Open hosted at the Brick Breeden Fieldhouse. The last time MSU Billings competed in a meet was on Dec. 5, 2015, at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D.
“This meet should be a good opener for us after a long holiday break,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “The last time we competed was Dec. 5, at Black Hills State, over a month ago, so we may be a little rusty. I think most everybody did a good job of staying in condition over the break.” At the meet at BHSU in December, MSU Billings newcomer Della Lyle picked up a win in the 3,000 meters finishing with a time of 10:43.98, more than 15 seconds ahead of her closest competitor. Junior Rio Frame was second in the mile, finishing with a time of 5:39.69, while senior Brielle Davis finished fourth in the 800 meters in 2:32:38. Freshman Janessa Williams placed fourth in the 200 meter dash at 28:17. MSUB placed second in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:23.70. In the field events, Becky Gerst began her collegiate career with a third place showing in the shot put with a throw of 11.67 meters. Friday’s meet should offer up some tough competition with individuals from Division I Montana State and the University of Montana, as well as NAIA Rocky Mountain College and Montana Western. “Della Lyle will be running the 5,000 meters, an event which she had an NCAA DIII outdoor provisional qualifying mark last year at University of Redlands,” Coppock said. “She’ll also be running on the women’s Distance Medley. Rio Frame and Brielle Davis will be running the 800 meters as well as the Distance Medley. Josey Smiedala is also coming off a strong performance at Black Hills State where she narrowly missed the MSUB school mark in the 400 meters, so we’re looking for a good performance there.” Live statistics will not be available for Friday’s meet. Results and the meet recap will be available at msubsports.com following the conclusion of the event.
