“This will be a big test for the team,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “The Griak provides a great opportunity to compete against some of the top NCAA Division II teams across the nation. We competed in Griak for the first time last season and had such a great experience that we wanted to go back this year.” Last year at the Griak more than 35 women’s cross country teams from around the nation with more than 300 individuals competed in the Division II race. The MSU Billings team finished 10th with Nocona Frame finishing 13th overall. Rio Frame finished the race 62nd and this season looks to move up from her spot last year. “Last year we had Nocona Frame place in the top-20 for us which is in the medals,” Coppock continued. “Brielle Davis had moved up in our top spot and we’re hoping Rio Frame is able to come off a bit of an injury which has been nagging her for a couple weeks.

Back to defend their title is the team from Minnesota-Duluth who this week is ranked No. 4 nationally. Looking to upset them is No. 3 Adams State, No. 5 Augustana (S.D.) and No. 9 Northern Michigan. Also, expected to compete are No. 17 Winona State and No. 25 Wayne State.
Minneosta Duluth’s Samantha Rivard won the title last season in 22:02.8 and returns this season as a junior to go for her second win. The Bulldogs return six of their seven runners to the team, including three that placed in the top-10 during last year’s race. Live results will not be available this year for the 30th annual Roy Griak. Results and a full recap will be available at msubsports.com following the conclusion of the event.
