The MSU Billings women’s cross country team is set for the west region race to be held at the Ash Creek Preserve.
MSUB is heading to Monmouth, Ore., for the 2015 NCAA west region championship. BILLINGS, Mont. – With two weeks to prepare since the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Championships, the MSUB women’s cross country team is ready for the NCAA west region meet this Saturday. The 2015 event is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 7 with the women’s 6,000 meter start time at 10:00 a.m. Pacific time on at the Ash Creek Preserve course on the campus of Wester Oregon University. The MSUB women finished this year’s GNAC event with several runners finishing with their best times this season, but the competition this week will be a tough task.
“It won’t be any easier for the women this week,” MSUB head coach Dave Coppock said. “They’ll be up against nationally-ranked Chico State (4), Alaska Anchorage (6), Cal Baptist (9), Western Washington (13) and UC San Diego (19). I think our best bet is to try to break into the top-20 at regionals.” The Yellowjackets have top runners junior Rio Frame and senior Brielle Davis heading up the MSU Billings team. Frame is coming off an injury earlier in the season, but was MSUB’s top finisher at the conference championships two weeks ago. Davis has been a steady presence for the squad this year, placing first for the team in three of the seven competitions this season. “Rio Frame and Brielle Davis have been leading us all season and they’re both looking strong in practice lately,” Coppock said on the team. “Taylor Condon, Jinise Trueblood and Bailey Bomar round out our top-5 and they’ve all competed on the Western Oregon course in the past for conference meets.” The Ash Creek preserve was the site of the last two conference championships. “We didn’t have a great finish at conference this year, but I think we’ve made some good progress over the last two weeks and that along with being familiar with the course should help us move up against the GNAC schools competing.” Last season, on their home course at Amend Park in Billings, Mont., the Yellowjackets placed 13th at the west region race. From that team, Frame is the top returning finisher, placing 57th in a time of 23:04.63. Behind her was Trueblood in 23:27.80 and Condon at 23:41.38. 2015 NCAA Division II West Region Championships Date: Start Time: Location: Distance: Official Results: Social Media
