Mason Steel from Utah State Eastern is joining the 2015 MSUB roster as a setter and defensive player. BILLINGS, Mont. – After spending much of her time the last few months on the road, MSUB head coach Lisa Axel has found the final player to fill the 2015 Yellowjacket volleyball roster. Mason Steel from Utah State University Eastern is transferring to play her final two years at MSUB at the setter and defensive positions. Mason Steel South Jordan, UT Herriman High School / Utah State University Eastern 5’8” Setter / Defensive Specialist Steel comes to MSU Billings after spending two years as a setter on the Utah State University Eastern team. Last season the Eagles finished the season 9-16 and 3-7 in their conference. Steel saw court time in 13 matches and 29 sets in 2014. She accumulated 107 total assists, averaging 3.69 per set. She also contributed 31 digs, four kills, and two block assists. “Mason comes from a volleyball family and will add depth to our team as a setter with the capability to play other positions,” Coach Axel said. “With the addition of Mason to our team our roster is set for this fall. I am very excited for fall camp to start in a month.” “I chose MSUB because of the coaching staff and the environment they have established along with the political science program,” Steel said on transferring to MSUB. “I am extremely excited to continue my athletic and academic career as a Yellowjacket.” Steel is the sixth recruit set to join the MSU Billings volleyball program this fall. She will be joining new members Taylor Albertson (St. Helens, OR), Audri Marrs (Parker, CO), Miranda McConnell (Sandy, UT), Abbie Mikelson (Battle Mountain, NV), and Taylor Sherman (Parker, CO). The MSUB season kicks off Sept. 1 with an exhibition match against Rocky Mountain College at the Fortin Center. The Yellowjackets have a challenging 29 match season on tap for 2015. Conference play for the ‘Jackets begins Sept. 17 with a home contest against Central Washington. Last season MSU Billings finished the year 13-14 and 8-10 against Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponents, including a win at home against No. 11 Western Washington.
