MSUB head coach Dave Coppock names Jonathan Woehl to the position of cross country and track and field assistant coach. BILLINGS, Mont. –MSUB head coach Dave Coppock has named Jonathan Woehl as the assistant cross country and track and field coach announced Friday. “I’m excited to have Jon join the track and cross country programs here at MSUB,” Coppock said. “He brings a wealth of knowledge across several event areas and has had experience starting up a new program at Southwest Minnesota State, which will be helpful here, as well.” Woehl joins the Montana State University Billings staff after spending a year as the Southwest Minnesota State University assistant cross country and track and field coach. Prior to that, Woehl was the program’s graduate assistant for two years while earning his master’s degree in business administration and marketing. Originally from Ankeny, Iowa, Woehl attended Northwest College in Orange City, Iowa, where he was a 4-year letter winner in track and cross country. He is the school record holder in the half marathon for the Red Raiders, completing his undergraduate in 2008 with a double major in mathematics and art.
Woehl was a national qualifier in the NAIA marathon in 2008, and was a leader on the team as the designated captain his senior season. During his time as a graduate assistant, Woehl oversaw the recruiting efforts of the coaching staff. During his stint at SMSU, Woehl coached the distance runners and horizontal jumpers. “My experience as a graduate assistant and volunteer assistant coach have led to this outstanding opportunity at MSUB,” Woehl said. “I am excited to work alongside an experienced coach like Coach Coppock. This season I will primarily be working with the sprinters, hurdlers, jumpers, and vaulters.” “Jon is very well organized and has started meeting individually with team members to work on goal-setting and assist in developing their training plans,” Coppock said. “With Jon here, we’ll be able to give proper attention to all our studentathletes and prepare them for NCAA Division II competition.” --@MSUBSports | #JacketNation--
