Welcome to the Winter Edition of the Michigan Soccer publication! First, thank you for your continued patronage. MSYSA’s statewide registration numbers for the Fall 2014 season increased by approximately 2,900 players! Be sure to check out our website, www.michiganyouthsoccer.org, for upcoming tournaments, events and other program information. This summer, Hartland and the Great Lakes Co-Ed Soccer League (Muskegon) are hosting Kohl’s (Recreation) Cup events. Also, the MSYSA State Cup and Junior State Cup tournaments will be held May 15-16 and May 28-31 in Saginaw, Michigan. When our State Association transitions to the new ‘F’ license being offered by the United States Soccer Federation, MSYSA will reduce or eliminate the costs associated with MSYSA’s online youth coaching modules. MSYSA currently offers a free online parent module and a free online disciplinary module. MSYSA plans to offer additional free online modules in the future. The small-sided games format, and the manner member organizations of US Soccer could potentially register players in the future, will be addressed by US Soccer soon. Commencing August 1, 2015, MSYSA will be conducting criminal background checks on all team officials on an annual basis. All risk management background checks submitted prior to August 1, 2015 are still valid for two years. Conversely, background checks submitted on August 1, 2015 and beyond will be valid for one year from the date of approval. All MSYSA background checks will continue to be administered through Got Soccer via coach or manager accounts. For more information on our risk management program and policy, please visit www.michiganyouthsoccer.org In closing, each of you plays an important role in the growth and development of our sport. Your contributions now and in the future are greatly appreciated. Have a great spring season! Sincerely yours, Thomas K. Faro Executive Director

MSYSA WINTER 2015

February 2, 2015 RE: MSYSA Risk Management Policy Modification

Dear MSYSA Adult Members, On January 26th, 2015, the Michigan State Youth Soccer Association (MSYSA) Board of Director’s unanimously voted to amend MSYSA’s current risk management policy to require background checks be submitted on an annual basis. This modification takes effect on August 1, 2015. One-‐year background submissions will cost $7.50 per application. Clubs and leagues that have purchased vouchers for their members will need to contact the MSYSA State Office to secure new voucher codes. Old voucher codes cannot be used but the funds will be transferred. Please contact MSYSA prior to August 1, 2015 to have your club or league’s new code created. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the MSYSA State Office. Sincerely, Joel P. Dragan Director of Member Services & Risk Management Administrator jdragan@michiganyouthsoccer.org cc.: MSYSA Board of Directors Mr. Robin Crawford, MSYSA President Thomas K.
