A MEMO FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR THOMAS FARO

Dear Members:

As the spring soccer season gets underway, this is a good time to remind everyone on the importance of good sportsmanship. In the recent past, State Associations across the country, including MSYSA, reported significant reductions in the number of certified officials. In Michigan, a number of officials simply walked away from officiating as a result of abuse from players, parents, and/or from team officials.

Abuse of any kind towards officials is not acceptable! Reports of verbal abuse, misconduct, or poor sportsmanship are often reported, and offenders pay the price in terms of discipline, fines and/or match forfeitures. Therefore, please be mindful of what you say, and how you conduct yourselves, at MSYSA affiliated games and tournaments. Games and tournaments can’t take place without officials! Very rarely will a call (or a ‘missed’ call) in soccer determine the outcome of a match.

MSYSA recognizes that try-outs are an important time for players, parents/guardians. As you prepare for this year’s try-outs, MSYSA encourages you to carefully read and review our rules as it pertains to this year’s try-outs. As a reminder, MSYSA affiliated try-outs may not take place prior to Saturday, June 8, 2024. MSYSA encourages you to do your research on coaches, clubs, and the costs to participate with various clubs. Pursuant to our rules, once you make a commitment to a team/club on or after June 8, you are committed to that team/club for a full seasonal year. Should you have any questions regarding try-outs, please contact the MSYSA State Office.

The Michigan Burn was founded in 2006 and has consistently demonstrated the commitment to growth and development by offering players the ability to play and compete at the highest levels possible. Our commitment to quality coaching and player development has helped us grow into one of the premier soccer clubs in Michigan.

Never defined by a 3-4 letter league or platform, instead, it has always been about the culture of the club, the coaches, the players, and all the amazing families that continue to evolve and grow at The Burn.

The Michigan Burn statistically, by percentage, puts more players into college without the reliance on any “elite platform” or league. Instead, as a club, the Michigan Burn offers two distinct college showcase programs for both boys and girls.

We’ve said before that we are “on our own,” never cutting deals with other clubs or treating players as a negotiating tool. Yet we are still the only club in our area that offers the highest level of competition for U11 and U12 players in the Michigan State Youth Soccer’s “Director’s Academy” and continue, statistically to graduate more players into college without the reliance on any platform or league.

• The Michigan Burn has a Player Pathway leveling program from Grass Roots to the College Showcase and ultimately to Professional player.

• The Michigan Burn is the only club in our area that offers the highest level of competition for U11 and U12 players in the Michigan State Youth Soccer’s “Director’s Academy.”

In the end, what does the big picture really look like with youth soccer? What is the end result? In our area, our commitment to quality coaching and player development is unequaled and has been consistent since founded in 2006. This might be the year to realize that your player and your soccer experience are worth it. This might be the year to join the Michigan Burn.

• The Michigan Burn has their own indoor and outdoor turf facilities with a brand new state-of-the-art indoor turf field being installed the week after tryouts.

Soccer Waza Summer Camp provides a fun environment where kids can work with experienced coaches, learn and practice new soccer skills. Camp consists of three separate 5-day sessions Monday-Friday. Campers can attend for a half or full day. All camps will include soccer skills, activities, and games where kids can play and learn!

MSPSP'S PATH TO THE USYS NATIONAL LEAGUE

NATIONAL LEAGUE CONFERENCES

Premier 1 offers the highest level of competitive travel soccer for state league play in Michigan and acts as a qualification pathway for US Youth Soccer’s National League Conferences. Teams typically secure placement into Premier 1 through success in Director Academy, Premier 2, or State Cup. MSYSA regards Premier 1 as competitively on par with regional competitions like NAL and Elite 64 RL.

Premier 2 and Premier 3 represent statewide divisions where teams elevate their expectations and experiences beyond the Classic level. Coaching license requirements are increased, as are the expectations regarding travel commitments. Teams in these divisions have their own State Cup, known as the 'Premier State Cup', providing an alternative pathway to secure placement to Premier 1. Premier 1 and Premier 2 teams also have access to the MSPSP Veo League Exchange where teams can view match recordings, scout opponents, and use the Veo analysis tools to better prepare for matchday.

The Classic divisions are structured to provide local competition, minimizing travel obligations. Classic divisions are typically composed of teams grouped together from regions such as West MI, East MI, and Central Michigan.
