Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival program guide 2022

Page 6

Well, it’s been a very long three years since our last event, but I am so excited to welcome back all our amazing Fringe fans to the 35th annual Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival. We are so thankful for the incredible support of our funders, corporate partners and individual donors over the past two years. Thanks to their continued commitment to the Fringe, and some incredibly creative artists, we proudly presented two successful digital festivals for our community. But here we are, July 2022, and I can’t wait to see the Exchange District alive again with Fringers enjoying incredible music by a local band at Old Market Square or rushing to get in line to buy a ticket to see that exciting new play they’ve been hearing so much about. I’m so excited for all of our indoor companies who were hoping to perform in 2020 and have patiently been waiting to share their creations and stories with our incredible Fringe community. I’d like to also thank all of our dedicated volunteers and staff members for their continued commitment to the festival. Without their generous spirit, talent and enthusiasm, the Fringe would not be the tremendous success it is today. And to you, our dedicated Fringers who have embraced this wacky concept of an indie theatre festival, I want to thank you for joining us once again this summer and making the Winnipeg Fringe Festival your favourite time of the year. Have a wonderful time Fringing and I’ll see you in line.

Welcome back to the Winnipeg Fringe Festival. We are so thrilled to be able to return to live theatre this summer after two long hiatus years. And we salute all of our artists who embraced the digital medium to bring our audiences joy during isolation. The Fringe is an iconic event in the Winnipeg cultural scene, drawing artists, audiences and volunteers to the beloved Exchange District for an all-you-can-eat buffet of entertaining and impactful offerings. We are a small but mighty city with one of the most culturally savvy audiences in the North American Fringe network. That’s why artists vie for a spot in the Winnipeg Fringe Festival – it’s because of our passionate audiences! The buzz at Royal MTC is palpable right now as we welcome you all back to the incredible array of shows. Whether you are in Old Market Square catching a fabulous band on stage, or a busker on the corner; or you are scrambling to be first in line to buy tickets for one of the most popular shows at the festival, the energy is infectious. We can’t help being caught up in the fun and frenzy that is the Fringe Festival. A big salute to Chuck and Tori for all their hard work organizing the fest, and to our Fringe staff, the incredible volunteers, and of course the staff at MTC who support the festival in a myriad of ways. You are all brilliant! Have a wonderful Fringe everyone! Kelly Thornton Artistic Director, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre

Thank you to our Volunteers! A huge thanks to our dedicated volunteers who help make each year a success! Our volunteers play many roles on site and behind the scenes, from selling tickets, bartending and supervising Kids Fringe to keeping Old Market Square clean, answering questions and everything in between. We are grateful for your enthusiasm and commitment in donating countless hours to ensure an amazing festival experience for patrons and performers alike. Your generosity and effort has put Winnipeg on the map as North America’s second-largest Fringe Festival! We’d like to extend a special thank you to our long-serving volunteers who go above and beyond, and have been with us for the past 25 years or more!
