Dear Middle Tennessee Council Scouters, Friends, and Investors: The spirit of Scouting is alive and well in Middle Tennessee! We want to express our sincere gratitude to all Middle Council Scouting volunteers and families who have worked so hard and have overcome many obstacles to ensure a strong Scouting program for the young people of our communities. The Council ended 2021 with over 5,543 new Scouts, we had the 7th highest number of new youths join for all 253 Councils nationwide. We had two Council Camporees. Our Spring Viking Warrior Camporee had over 1,000 youth and adults attend and our 100th Anniversary Jamboree at Boxwell Reservation had over 4,200 youth and adults attend. This was the largest single Scouting event in the nation in both 2020 and 2021. We want to thank all the volunteers who worked so diligently to make these events a success. In addition, 1,916 Scouts BSA youth attended Summer Camp at Boxwell, 413 Cub Scout attended Family Scouting Programs at Boxwell this past summer, 2,485 youth and adults attended Latimer Reservation, 1,240 attended Parrish Reservation, and 2,878 Scouts took float trips at Grimes Canoe Base. We had one of the most robust camping years of any Council in the Country. When you consider the challenges, 2021 was a great Scouting year. We plan for 2022 to be an even bigger and better year for Scouting. We plan to open the new Skilled Trades Center this summer and teach merit badges like Welding, Automotive Maintenance, Home Repair, Plumbing and Electricity in this new facility. We will continue to recruit new youth members and expand Council programs throughout the MTC. More than likely, you have heard or maybe even experienced the stress COVID-19 has put on our young people over the last couple of years. The pandemic has created fear, anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders in our young people. Many youths have had their education disrupted and have fallen behind in school. Scouting has always addressed issues our country has faced with a positive “can do” attitude based on values, mental and physical fitness, outdoor adventures, service, hard work, self-confidence, and leadership. There is no doubt that our country and our Middle Tennessee communities need Scouting now more than ever. Again, thank you for what you are doing to ensure Scouting makes a positive difference in the lives of the youth of Middle Tennessee. Yours in Scouting,

Each year, representatives from each of the six Boy Scouts of America Councils in the great state of Tennessee gather for a day to participate in the Report to the State. These youth members joined forces on February 28, 2022, for a memorable day designed to report the current state of Scouting across Tennessee to the elected officials of Tennessee. Beginning at 11:00am, Council representatives began to gather at the MTC office in Nashville, where they enjoyed a fantastic lunch, and listened to State Senator Jeff Yarbro of Nashville. An Eagle Scout himself, Senator Yarbro regaled those in attendance with his personal Scouting background, and how Scouting had helped him become the strong leader he is today. His legislation on behalf of Tennesseans has focused on a range of issues, including affordable housing, public transportation, health care access, criminal justice and the environment, much of which can be directly linked to his Scouting values. Following lunch, the contingent traveled to the Country Music Hall of Fame for a self-guided tour followed by a guided tour of State Capitol, before heading to the floor of the Tennessee State Senate for the official program and the report to the state. Council representatives presented their Council information during opening session of the House of Representative and the Senate. REPRESENTATIVES FROM EACH COUNCIL INCLUDED: Cherokee Area Council Chattanooga, TN - Max McCarthy, Chickasaw Council Memphis, TN - Myles M. Snelling, Great Smokey Mountains Knoxville, TN - John Weber, Middle TN Council Nashville, TN – Hannah Bailey, Silas Miller, Jacob Armistead and Alec Jakalski, Sequoyah Council Johnson City, TN – Landon Saddler, and West Tennessee Area Council Jackson, TN – Ty Young This was an amazing day. Scouting is alive and well in Tennessee.

The Middle Tennessee Council Boy Scouts of America invites and encourages you to take part in a special day of flag placement honoring those who served in our nation’s armed services and are now laid to rest. Many of these heroes gave their lives for our freedom while in active duty. Please join us in placing flags on the graves of soldiers who so sacrificially served. Our veterans, both living and deceased, deserve our utmost respect and thanks for all they do, and have done to make this country what it is today. This is a great way to show that appreciation. Bring your Scout in full uniform and allow your youth to be part of a now almost fifty-year tradition with MTC. PHOTO ALERT: Television, recording, and print media representatives may be on-site at any of the locations. Please have uniforms looking their best! Also, please remember to remind everyone to be on their best, and most respectful, behavior. This is not an outside play activity. Please pre-register with your UNIT / as a UNIT, and not individually. Please email Andrew Weisbrot @andrew.weisbrot@ scouting.org, with any questions. Pre-registration with accurate numbers is highly recommended. Please be considerate of all participants. When units randomly place flags without checking in and/or also not waiting for every unit to reach their ‘unit shared’ garden assigned area, they are taking away the opportunity for the assigned youth to participate in placing the flags. Doing so is not the Scouting way. Let’s be FRIENDLY, COURTEOUS, and KIND. REGISTRATION LINK: https://scoutingevent.com/560-56320 After registration, please also be looking for a leader informational letter which will be sent to your email address which will provide you with information, maps, and more for this special event!
Who is asked to Attend? Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend to congratulate these men and women on their incredible accomplishments. Additionally, we will recognize the newest Silver Beaver Award Recipients and our Eagle Scout Class Honorees. Our keynote speaker for the reception is Andrew Herrington, Wilderness Survivalist. He will share his many stories of his incredible adventures. As you know, the Eagle Scout and Volunteer Recognition Reception is scheduled for Sunday, April 24, 2022, at David Lipscomb University – Allen Arena, 1:30 p.m. Scout will walk across the stage and receive a MTC neckerchief from the Council Key 3. All Scouts are asked to wear a Class A uniform or nice dress attire. Please register to attend at https://scoutingevent.com/560-54101 The Middle Tennessee Council respectfully ask for individuals and companies to become a mentor or sponsor of the reception.
