GROWTHOUR
Highland Food Group products are very much in demand.
According to data from research and analytics company Kantar from 2021, Venison meat over indexes for taste (2x) and indulgence (5x) versus other red meats.
Innovation in our supply chain quality “from Hill to Plate” and new product developments have encouraged retail buyers to promote Venison alongside the other “big five” animal proteins resulting in dramatically increased consumer supermarket sales.
Scotland’s deer population ranges from 4 deer per km2 to as high as 64 deer per km2 in some areas. A widely accepted sustainable population balance for woodlands and biodiversity protection is between 2 to 7 deer per km
The current high level of deer numbers threatens forest regeneration which is a vital part of our response to the climate emergency. The high numbers can also impact other biodiversity projects and weaken the overall health of the deer herd, leading to possible animal suffering and starvation.
SUSTAINABILITYOUR
Highland Food Group works closely with supply partners and other stakeholders such as Nature Scot, Scottish Environment Link and the ADMG (Association of Deer Management). We regularly review evidence and lobby to keep deer numbers at a level that ensures they remain a vital and healthy component of the countryside’s biodiversity.
PARTNERSOUR
As the leading provider of Venison in the United Kingdom, Highland Food Group is acknowledged as custodians of the country’s wild deer populations, sourced through exclusive partnerships with Forestry Land Scotland, Forestry England and the nation’s finest private estates.
These partnerships have been forged over many years and sit at the heart of Highland Food Group’s ongoing success.
