L’Amande for this line has used the Lavender Angustifolia, the most precious organically grown lavender. Its essential oil has always been known and used for its calming, relaxing and anti-bacterial properties. interview
SINESIA: MIND THE TIME A mantra that invites looking after the head in its totality. A new beauty routine to live our time to the full
year celebrates its 75th birthday. Today the main focus is to improve which is being done and, from this point of view, since 11 June last Pettenon Cosmetics has become a benefit company.
AFSOON NEGINY, Coo Business & Sustainability Director of Agf88 Holding
EXPORT MAGAZINE: There is something brand new at Agf88 Holding. Can you tell us since when and what it is? AFSOON NEGINY: It is a new premium brand that we officially launched on 20/9 and which has the name of SINESIA. The brand is perfectly coherent with the new philosophy and strategy of the Group which we have developed over the past two years, which is that of pursuing eco-sustainability and innovation at one and the same time. Everybody knows the story of the company which belongs to the Pegorin family, namely the two brothers Federico and Gianni: over time there has been strong growth which has led to the acquisition of two other companies, as well as the funding company, Pettenon Cosmetics which this
EM: What does it mean for you having become a benefit company? AN: Being a benefit company entails moral obligations and a great responsibility. It is a very first step towards sustainability, which is cultural as well as environmental and which involves the governance and a social economic impact. We consider it a starting point, and definitely not a finishing line, to improve all the activities we already carry out starting from the formula and the manufacturing practices to blossom out into other projects with a wider scope, including social activities linked to the local area and to charity. EM: It was you who conceived of Sinesia. What is the message behind this new brand? AN: This brand pays tribute to the change that has taken place over the past few years and above all by the consumer. The cosmetics market, despite everything, is still growing, while undergoing some shocks from one distribution channel to another.
10 www.exportmagazine.net
From a careful analysis, we can see that the consumer has become more active, therefore there has to be great affinity between the way of being of the consumer and the product identity. SINESIA comes from the need to express the sovereignty of the mind, where the head, our skull, contains the brain. Together the mind and the brain are the leading players of beauty, as they convey to the individual the sensation of how they feel. The Premium SINESIA line, from the Greek ‘synesis’ which means intellect or intelligence, is an innovative line which acts ‘from the neck upwards’, treating hair, face and scalp, like a single synergistically interconnected universe. The payoff of the line, MIND THE TIME, brings us back again to the concept of the mind, which governs and measures time. It is not surprising that a drawing of an hourglass is shown in the logo, reminding us who precious our time is, how it shouldn’t be wasted, but used to the best. It is a concept which is excellently expressed in the film “Dead Poets’ Society”. Beauty, indissolubly linked with the concept of the mind, comes into being and is expressed through the feelings and sensations which are sparked off by that whole which is represented by the human being. It is internalized beauty,
interview
which is shown externally. SINESIA is the expression of this marvellous synergy which is expressed through products conceived with a holistic approach. EM: How is this concept translated into terms of product? AN: We have conceived efficient multipurpose products which, through dedicated rituals, act on the biosystem of the skin, the scalp and hair to obtain a deep interconnection between mind and head. Some products are common to all three parts to be treated, others are only for the neck and face, others for the scalp and the hair. We have drawn inspiration from the theory of MacLean, which maintains that we have three brains in specific areas: an instinctive brain (otherwise called reptilian), an emotional one (also known as limbic) and a rational one (the neo-cortex). The concept of the SINESIA line is based on synesthetic multi-sensoriality, where the products and the relative gestures act to bring the three parts into balance, working on centring and interconnection between the hair, the face and the scalp. The SINESIA products are designed for professional salons, aimed to obtain tangible results. However, they can also be used in the retail channel, a retail of the professional type. We have defined the line ‘greenrich beauty’, a term we have coined to underline the main prerogatives of SINESIA: sustainability, performance and sensoriality. We cannot say ‘less is more’, as we do not follow a philosophy of ‘clean beauty’. Our formulas, rich in functional and sustainable ingredients, are combined with one another to obtain
the best performances. The formulas are made up of up to 99% of ingredients of natural origin and up to 98% are biodegradable; they are 100% Vegan friendly. We have included waterless products, in powder, to save water, a resource which is becoming increasingly scarce. In the case of the shampoos, some are still liquids, others are in powder. All the products are certified both for the packaging and for the formula, as they are free of ingredients of animal origin. All the packaging has a reduced environmental impact, starting from the productive choice of the supply chain. We also have Lifegate certifications, again for the packaging of Sinesia, to guarantee a reduction of the environmental impact of the brand, offsetting emissions with the protection of an area of forest and woods in Madagascar. EM: What does SINESIA bring to professional salons? AN: It brings a new idea of integrated beauty: a holistic system which allows regaining your balance using the products in synergy, with the gestures of application and energetic massages so highly appreciated by clients. These should not always last the same length and be the same for everyone, it will be up to the sensitivity of the hairstylist to propose the most suitable treatment, also according to the time available, each time. The important thing is to use a correct sequence, based on the paths scheduled, whether in the salon or at home. The type of salon that prefer SINESIA is the one, not necessarily large, that aims to meet the needs of today’s
11 www.exportmagazine.net
consumers, who are looking for the truth through knowledge and experience. EM: SINESIA is an original and innovative brand. Have you planned any instruments to illustrate the concept and the use of the line? AN: When innovation is radical and transformative, as in the case of SINESIA, it is indispensable to create all those instruments that make it easy to use. As we know, hairstylists and their staff do not have much free time in the salon, so we have created a platform that interacts with the users, through a QR Code for the client, and a dedicated code for the hairdresser. Videos are uploaded on the portal, www.sinesia.com, which explain everything, from the products to the rituals to follow. We have even included some “pills of meditation” written by the psychologist Lucia Giovannini, which are not linked to the product in itself, but express in words the message of well-being that appears in SINESIA. Let’s not forget that the salons belonging to our community pay great attention to the well-being of their clients, providing all-round well-being services, carrying out a real activity of consultancy, certainly not based on speed. This is an alternative business, which lies outside an activity of pure hair care. EM: Will SINESIA be distributed abroad as well? AN: Of course, SINESIA is born international to be distributed internationally. The portal is already in four languages: English, French, Spanish and Italian.

Baralan Introduces DEA, its Airless Packaging Solution in Glass The new DEA series is the first airless system where the product is directly in contact with the glass
Baralan, a consolidated player in primary packaging for the cosmetics and beauty industries, has introduced DEA – which stands for Developing the Evolution of Airless – a new series of products composed of glass airless containers designed for several applications. Unlike other airless systems, DEA has no internal plastic container, making it the first airless system in which the filled product is directly in contact with its glass container. As a more sustainable solution, the DEA series represents a new philosophy of primary packaging in glass, using fewer components and significantly reducing the amount of overall materials, resulting in a lighter and more functional packaging that still offers impact to brands with
a new level of user experience. In addition, its airless nature helps better preserve the integrity of the product ingredients, is suitable for different usages and is extremely versatile in application. The DEA series is available in two versions: classic and premium, both of which allow for the possibility of single-use or refillable solutions of the glass container. The ability to also quickly and practically separate components provides new opportunities to improve product lifecycle – embracing sustainability and eco-consciousness in packaging. DEA is available in three nominal capacities: 15ml, 30ml and 50ml. Its standard GPI 18/400 neck finish, combined with the airless system, is compatible with a vast range of pumps.
20 www.exportmagazine.net
This allows for increased modularity for different sets, as well as high levels of product personalization. In each version, the transparent glass allows for the filled product’s color to remain visible for an authentic appeal. Another feature of this new solution is the ability to eliminate lubricant use, which is due to the unprecedented smoothness of the piston inside the glass container. Thanks to Baralan’s dedicated teams of quality and research professionals, it has been possible to achieve such an innovation. The exploration of this new solution opens the path to new product line opportunities that provide an evolution of primary packaging in glass – and airless packaging in general – to drive and shape the future of beauty.

Together, stronger Lisap has acquired control of Parisienne Italia, becoming the first player in Europe in professional hair care by volumes and know-how
“Our DNA and our story are those of manufacturing companies,” comments Luca Papetti, CEO of Lisap and HQ Holding, “and the two poles of Rescaldina (Milan) and Altedo (Bologna) will also be the bases in the future on which to implement our strategy of verticalization which has as its objective that of reaching 35,000 direct clients all over the world and to improve our performance in serving even more countries than the 100 where the brands are currently present. We will do so with a view to maximizing the skills and capacities matured by the two partners, keeping innovation, performance and sustainability central in the strategy of joint development.”

Lisap, Rescaldina (MI)
Almost 140 years of joint expertise, 2 production poles, 55,000 square metres of offices and plants, and a total of 330 employees. These are, in a nutshell, the main figures that summarize the result of the acquisition by the Milanese company Lisap of Parisienne Italia, of which it has taken control through an agreement signed in early November. These are the first steps towards the creation of a group – to be headed by the newly-incorporated HQ Holding Parisienne, Altedo (BO)
– which in 2022 already aims to exceed a turnover of euro 65 million and 100 million in 2024. By integrating complementary leaderships and keeping, by reinforcing it, the value of 100% Italian production, the result is an industrial pole specialized in professional hair care with high added value. The acquisition, which coincides with the generational passage of both companies, meets the changed national and international scenario.

SENS.ÙS: #BEGREEN Our low environmental impact and high energy saving premises make our company a fascinating and unusual place, full of surprises and curiosities waiting to be discovered! The G&P Cosmetics family aims to safeguard and distribute its portfolio comprising over 13,000 formulas worldwide with the help of the Global Fashion Academy, which valorizes both the art of color and the techniques

used. G&P and its staff also collect market and customer information as part of its ongoing research and study activities.
We have also installed solar panels that allow us to create a lower environmental impact and develop what is being studied and processed in an environmentally-friendly way, drawing inspiration from and using recycled and recyclable materials. Within the company we separate paper, cardboard and... plastic waste.
It is not an easy path, but we pursue it every day through the research and professionalism of our product development center technicians, who are engaged in a slow and meticulous manufacturing process.
We are located next to the River Tiber, which is at the heart of the history of our culture and of entire civilizations.
We view the salon as a basic point of reference where color must respect each customer’s needs and requirements.
It is this passion that has shaped the philosophy of «sustainable value», which integrates social, environmental and ethical aspects and automatically projects towards the needs of consumers, in line with the highest Italian quality. Being up to date and fully compliant with EU and environmental regulations is fundamental for us to be able to work while respecting the planet, the young people who will inherit it from us, and ourselves.
This is our starting point: respect for a nature that has given and continues to give us much. We always appreciate commitment to multi-utilities and believe in resource reuse and management.
Not only does the river flow through Sansepolcro and the Valtiberina: it also flows through Rome, which was the capital of the world for one thousand years. Being given this opportunity is a great privilege that allows us to use the water of a historical river that now gives life to G&P products. We have not forgotten the past. On the contrary, we always look to the future and place great focus on both sustainability and innovation.
We are all responsible for safeguarding our planet, which is why we believe in change through concrete action.
THANKS TO RENEWABLE ENERGY
With this tribute and other Earth-Friendly projects, we believe we are contributing to making our world a better place, for us and our children.
OUR COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT
DID YOU KNOW?
How much plastic ends up in our oceans every year?
Between 8 and 13 million tons of plastic waste were dumped in 2010 alone. Of this, 250,000 tons float on the surface, while the rest lies on ocean floors and beaches around the world. Every year around one million birds and 100,000 marine mammals die because of plastic waste dumped in the sea. When the stomachs of dead and beached whales are analyzed, they always contain large quantities of plastic. The same is true for turtles that often mistake plastic bags for jellyfish. G&P Cosmetics currently has 110 employees.
Every one of us has a moral duty to help save our environment..
TIME IS UP, THE PLANET CAN’T WAIT ANY LONGER.
Our new logo #BEGREEN symbolizes the respect our company has for the planet.
Water, placed inside the iconic recycling circulating symbol, is an essential resource for our production process.
We firmly believe that the only way to take resources from nature is if we respect it. In fact, we use water from the Tiber River that flows through our valley to produce our products. Thanks to innovative demineralization processes, reverse osmosis and the destruction of bacteria using UV rays, the water is extracted from underground and microbiologically purified.
We are committed to using more environmentally-friendly raw materials, choosing containers that are recycled and biodegrade better whenever possible. Plus, using energy from renewable sources means every day we use 50% less energy from fossil fuels.
Our decision to adopt reusable bottles will save our planet around 35,000 plastic cups and 6,300 bottles every year in our company!

HELLO DIGITAL DRYERS
For over 76 years Elchim has been following the needs of hairdressers and knows how important it is for a hairdryer to be lightweight, powerful, respectful of the hair and long-lasting. These characteristics were often in conflict with each other until the era of the new brushless digital motors introduced in Elchim’s appliances. The beating heart of the hair dryer is transformed into a highly technological concentrate dreamed of and manufactured in Milan Italy, which allows not only to reach the top of performance but to create super-light hair dryers, as never before, and exceed the 5,000 working hours, target unthinkable before even using the best professional motors. Strengthened by this innovative technology now consolidated in the Elchim range, the Company from Milan has launched two different models with BLDC digital technology, therefore without carbon brushes: RUN and Xlite Plus.
Xlite Plus is the new model for those looking for a drastic reduction in the drying time. A powerful Italian made dryer preserving the health of hair and compatible with Hot Honey Care system, the innovative technology by Elchim that evenly distributes a genuine hair treatment during blowout.

“Thanks to the brushless technology”, Luca Sabbatini, young CEO of Elchim tells us, “We deliver ergonomic hairdryers to hairdressers, aware that through the search for lightness and ergonomics, it is possible to reduce the risks for the hairdresser of contracting the carpal tunnel. Furthermore, the other highly innovative feature is the duration: we have gone from 2,000 hours of operation of our top models to 5,000 hours guaranteed, but which in the case of well-maintained brushless hairdryers, can even exceed 8,000 working hours. A leap forward in technology and made in Italy expecting further developments and improvements in the coming years“. The professional hairdryer technology has changed and, today, digital technology has impacted the professional beauty industry. Finally, the new Elchim brushless hair dryers are also compatible with Hot Honey Care system, the Company’s international recent patent. Thanks to the cosmetic diffuser combined with the special

ADF&PCD and PLD Paris Interview: a successful start to the 2022 school year!
ADF&PCD and PLD Paris is fast approaching. The established event and the first of the year for the beauty, luxury, beverage and aerosol packaging industry will be held in three months time, on 19 & 20 January 2022, at Porte de Versailles, in Paris. This year, some 650 international exhibitors are expected to attend, and the show will feature a number of highlights that will shed light on current and future trends. Why and how has ADF&PCD and PLD Paris become the key reference show for packaging professionals? Josh Brook: ADF&PCD and PLD Paris offers an absolute focus on innovation and provides a vision of the future of packaging for everyone. Targeting the niche markets of beauty, aerosols and dispensing, and since 2020, premium beverages, it is the benchmark event in packaging. Talks, Awards, exhibitor stands - innovation is everywhere. Our visitors and exhibitors alike know that this event is much more than a showcase, it’s a place for meetings and exchanges where projects come to life. Clients and their teams come with their objectives set for real projects to be carried out. The event has a friendly atmosphere, which facilitates connections and networking. It is held in Paris, the world’s capital for luxury and beauty, so it is close to the brands. Decision-makers in marketing, packaging and purchasing do not miss this event, which takes place right on their doorstep. Finally, let’s not forget that this is the first event of the year: it sets the tone for the months to come and launches the dynamics of creativity and business. What are the main themes of the 2022 edition of ADF&PCD and PLD Paris? Christelle Anya: These three events, which are totally free due to their many links, are focused on innovations and

market trends. The main themes that we will be addressing through our programme will be oriented towards eco-responsibility, a key issue for brands and consumers alike. We will highlight material innovation, PCR, alternatives to plastic, sustainable solutions, and progress and challenges around recyclability in the cosmetics industry. We will also address the latest trends in terms of design, production, digitalisation, e-commerce, sampling, intelligent packaging, refill, and 3D printing... which are at the heart of companies’ ambitions. And the highlights? CA: The ADF&PCD and PLD Innovation Awards ceremonies are amongst the most eagerly awaited moments of the event. It is a highly respected prize, overseen by a prestigious and impartial jury. The awards offer exceptional visibility to the participating companies and is a springboard for many of them. Over the years we have seen a real buzz around the Awards, with entries from all continents across the globe. This year will also mark the first face-to-face PLD Innovation Awards. In addition, of course, there are the other inspiring highlights that make ADF&PCD and PLD Paris such a success: the conferences and round tables

Josh Brooks, Event Director of ADF&PCD and PLD Paris 2022
featuring the best experts in the sector, the prestigious Pentawards gallery, the networking events and the guided tours. What will be new in this 2022 edition? JB: We are strengthening the innovation aspect with a new gallery dedicated to the Awards and key trends of the coming year, as well as the presentation of student projects. Visitors will be able to see the innovations imagined by ESEPAC and ESP students on the eco-design of ultra-luxury perfumes (a competition sponsored by Estée Lauder), as well as, for the first time, innovation projects by ESIReims students. This first edition of the Talents Challenge is initiated once again by Easyfairs, in partnership with the school, and sponsored by Shiseido and Huda Beauty. We will create or improve networking and relaxation areas such as the VIP Lounge, the Cocktail Bar and the Champagne Bar. What also sets the 2022 edition apart is that it goes beyond the timeframe of the exhibition and relies on online events. The pre-show webinars are designed to highlight new products that should not be missed, which will help suppliers and brands to plan their visit. All of our online events over the past few months (Digital Days, Innovation Talks, awards ceremonies, etc.) have helped to connect, inform and inspire our community.

While offering new business and collaboration opportunities to local and international industry professionals, the exhibition provided exhibitors with the opportunity to meet nearly 150 invited hosted buyers from 56 countries including Iraq, Canada, Palestine, Spain, Ecuador, Ukraine, Cameroon, Tunisia, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Cameroon, Uganda, Uruguay, Georgia, Netherlands, Nigeria, Macedonia, Romania, Kosovo, Palestine, Lebanon and Bosnia and Herzegovina both at the exhibition area and online through the Hyve Connect Matchmaking Program as part of the VIP Hosted Buyer Program. The exhibitors and the buyers held more than 2,500 business meetings. The 16th International Cosmetics, Beauty, Hair Exhibition -BeautyEurasia offered its exhibitors the chance to meet with international buyers and industry experts, present their products to large audiences, and establish new business partnerships in 2021, as it has been for
15 years. Despite the changes in social behavior and the fact that people stayed at home for a long time due to the global pandemic, the cosmetics industry has continued its uninterrupted growth compared to last year. Although store closures led to a decrease in sales for a while in the early stages of the outbreak, the cosmetics sector revived thanks to the rapid increase in the use of e-commerce and continued to contribute to the country’s economy. Expressing his satisfaction for the 16th International Cosmetics, Beauty and Hair Exhibition -BeautyEurasia, Regional Director of Hyve Group, Kemal Ülgen added;”the cosmetics sector, which has been growing each passing year in Turkey, continues to contribute to the country’s economy despite the
COVID-19 pandemic, which has shaken up the whole world with its impacts on all aspects of life.According to the report published by the Ministry of Trade in March 2021, the cosmetics sector, which grows 10% per year, has reached a size of TRY 15 billion. The continuous decrease in imports and the gradual growth in exports in cosmetics drew attention as the most important thing that distinguishes the sector from other sectors in Turkey.“
BeautyEurasia Inspired Exhibitors with Interesting Sessions & Events in 2021 The three-day exhibition witnessed inspirational speeches, brand stories, workshops, trends, and hair shows. The exhibition, which will host the industry professionals and influencers with the events program to be held in cooperation with leading institutions and organizations, will update the knowledge of the exhibitors with topics including sectoral trends, technological developments, legislations, and ways to improve export sales. On the first day of the exhibition, Chairman of Istanbul Chemicals and Chemical Products, İmer Özer held a speech titled “Cosmetics: The Sector at the Heart of Exporting” and talked about the importance of differentiating yourself from others in terms of quality for the exhibitors and visitors of the exhibition. One of the most interesting events held on the first day of the exhibition was the makeup application performed by Fezi Altun. In the event, he explained the seasonal makeup trends and applied makeup to Didem Soydan. A special exhibition tour with visitors was organized and held by Fezi Altun. Visitors had the opportunity to meet beauty and cosmetics professionals while taking makeup tips from Fezi Altun. The relationship between cosmetics and technology was one of the most interesting topics this year as well. The 16th BeautyEurasia held by Hyve Group, which brings together thousands of international investors and domestic business partners every year by organizing exhibitions in the locomotive sectors of the Turkish economy, was also received support from the Republic of Turkey’s Ministry of Trade.

LUXE PACK Monaco brings businesses together LUXE PACK Monaco was a key event for the entire luxury packaging industry
‘The crowd was there after several months without any trade fairs. We brought the entire luxury packaging industry together, which was badly needed. Although we had fewer international visitors than usual, 7,860 visitors came to this year’s event, which was a welcome surprise. The quality was exceptional: all the actions taken to ensure the presence of high-profile people from the big luxury goods companies were effective as we improved the proportion of brands in our visitors.’ explained the event’s organisation. ‘We didn’t have any American, British, or Asian visitors, but we recorded a 15% increase in our French visitors and 7% for Spanish companies.’ Visitors and exhibitors alike were delighted with this long-awaited reunion, which is crucial for the effectiveness of their business relationships. Ever greener This year’s event confirmed the commitment of the 450 exhibitors in favour of eco-design and sustainability, allowing them to deliver the fruits of their efforts in terms of packaging reduction, recycling, and reuse. The aisles of the show were populated with mono-material innovations, refillable packaging, and 100% recycled materials. Symbol of this enthusiasm, the LUXE PACK in Green awards were eagerly awaited this year, with over 50 applications and record ceremony attendance. ESTAL, ICMA, and GROUPE POCHET, the LUXE PACK in Green winner In the ‘eco-designed packaging solutions’ category the panel of experts(1) voted for the collection of Rude bottles, in 100% recycled Wild Glass, from the Spanish company ESTAL. The desire to bring natural aesthetic imperfections and ancestral design into Luxury codes was particularly appreciated. For the first time this year, visitors were invited to express their preference by voting on the My Luxe Pack platform. Odyssée, the 2-in-1 nomadic and refillable
lightweight glass jar from the Pochet Group, won the people’s choice award. Finally, in the ‘Corporate Social Responsibility approach’ category, ICMA was rewarded for having become the first European company in the paper and cardboard sector to obtain B-Corp status at the end of the certification process completed in May 2020.
The LUXE PACK Monaco experience continues … New this year! Seven plenary conferences are available in replay on the My LUXE PACK platform (with ENG/FR subtitles), and all exhibitor offers presented at LUXE PACK shows, products and expertise, are freely accessible all year round to allow brands to get in contact with suppliers.
