TODAY’S PANELISTS Juan E. Alva Fifth Street Finance Corp. Mr. Alva joined Fifth Street as a Partner in January 2007. Based in Los Angeles, he is responsible for developing private equity sponsor relationships and originating loans in the Western Region of the United States. In addition, Mr. Alva is responsible for corporate development activities at Fifth Street, including mergers & acquisitions and strategic projects. Prior to joining Fifth Street, Mr. Alva worked at Goldman Sachs in the Financial Institutions and Corporate Finance Groups. Mr. Alva was also chief financial officer of ClickServices.com, Inc., a wireless software company majority owned by Cisco Systems, and also was a senior investment banker at Trinity Capital, focused on small cap M&A transactions in the restaurant and food industries. Mr. Alva is a graduate of the Management & Technology Program at the University of Pennsylvania, with a B.S. in Economics from the Wharton School and a B.S. in Engineering from the School of Engineering and Applied Science. He sits on the Board of Healthcare Finance Group and on the Investment Committee of Chaminade College Preparatory.

David Brackett GE Antares Capital Mr. Brackett leads GE Antares’ private equity sponsor coverage activities and is a member of GE Antares’ Investment Council. He was one of the founding partners of Antares Capital which GE acquired in 2005. Prior to forming Antares Dave was a senior executive with Heller Financial. He began his career at Continental Illinois National Bank after graduating summa cum laude from the University of Denver. Dave received his MBA from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. Dave is based in New York City where he overseas GE Antares’ sponsor lending efforts.

Eric Beckman Ares Private Debt Group Mr. Beckman joined Ares Management in 1998 and serves as an Executive Vice President of Ares Capital and a Senior Partner in the Ares Private Debt Group. He is a member of the Investment Committee of Ares Capital Management, the Ares Private Debt Group Investment Committee and the Investment Committee of Ares’ European Private Debt business. Before joining the Private Debt Group, he served as a Partner in the Private Equity Group and a Principal in Ares’ mezzanine and special situations effort where he was responsible for originating, structuring and managing investments in senior loans, mezzanine debt, private equity and distressed securities across a number of industries. Mr. Beckman joined Ares from Goldman, Sachs & Co. where he specialized in leveraged loan and high yield bond financings. Mr. Beckman is the chair of the Los Angeles Advisory Committee and a member of the national board of directors of the Posse Foundation, a college access program for inner city youth. He graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Political Theory and Economics from Cornell University, and received his JD from the Yale Law School where he was a senior editor of the Yale Law Journal.


TODAY’S PANELISTS Steve A. Curtis PNC Business Credit Mr. Curtis joined PNC Business Credit in 2002 and is currently the Western Divisional Executive overseeing Marketing and Portfolio for the Southwestern Region (Headquartered in Dallas) and the Western Region (Headquartered in Pasadena, California) in addition to managing the marketing function in Western Canada. In total, he’s responsible for over $5 billion in commitments. He has an extensive background in commercial lending with experience in the management of marketing, portfolio, underwriting, and audit having worked with Congress Financial , CIT Business Credit and Wells Fargo Commercial Finance. He has a Bachelor Degree from Cal State Long Beach.

Allen Stern Imperial Capital Mr. Stern has over 25 years of experience advising boards and management teams on debt and equity capital markets, merger and acquisitions and restructurings. Mr. Stern has significant relationships within the institutional community including financial sponsors, hedge funds, mezzanine funds and senior lenders. Before joining Imperial Capital, Mr. Stern was a Senior Vice President in the Corporate real estate finance division of the Binswanger Company. Prior, he was a Vice President in the leveraged leasing/equipment and project finance arm of B.O.T Financial. Mr. Stern received a B.S. degree in Economics from Northeastern University in Boston.

TODAY’S MODERATOR Paul Hogan PNC Capital Markets LLC Mr. Hogan is responsible for all aspects of origination, structuring, documenting and distributing syndicated loan financings for both corporate clients and private equity firms. Mr. Hogan has over 20 years of banking experience. Mr. Hogan joined PNC in 2008 through its acquisition of National City, where he worked for 10 years in loan syndications. Mr. Hogan also spent 10 years with First Union, through its acquisition of CoreStates Financial, with his last five years in Debt Capital Markets’ Loan Syndications Group. In addition to his debt capital markets experience, Mr. Hogan spent five years in portfolio management, specifically in the Healthcare Finance Group and troubled asset unit of CoreStates Bank. He started his banking career with CoreStates in 1989 as a management trainee, completing a two year rotational management training program in 1991. Mr. Hogan holds a bachelors degree in Finance from LaSalle University and a masters degree in business administration from Lehigh University.
