KURT LENTZ Sun Capital Partners Kurt Lentz is a vice president with Sun Capital Partners, a private investment firm with approximately $8 billion of equity capital under management. Since joining the firm in 2005, he has completed over 15 acquisitions, portfolio company sales/divestitures, numerous restructurings, debt financings and dividend transactions. He currently serves as the lead transaction professional with eight of Sun Capital’s portfolio companies. Previously, Lentz was with American Capital Strategies. He started his career as a member of CIBC World Markets’ Los Angeles-based corporate and leveraged finance group. He holds a B.A in economics from Claremont McKenna College.
ALEX STEVENSON Focal Point Partners, LLC Alex Stevenson is a managing director at Focal Point Partners, LLC. He advises companies and their various stakeholders in special and distressed situations. Stevenson has 14 years of experience in designing and executing strategic and transaction alternatives. Previously, he was a managing director with Ernst & Young Corporate Finance, LLC and was co-head of corporate finance for a national restructuring boutique firm. Stevenson is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Turnaround Management Association and holds a CIRA designation from the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors. He graduated cum laude from Michigan State University with a B.A. in accounting.
MATT NELSON Wells Fargo Gaming Capital, LLC Matt Nelson is a managing director and head of Wells Fargo Gaming Capital, LLC (WFGC), which provides capital to facilitate financial restructurings and recapitalizations, among other services. Previously, Nelson was senior vice president and division manager in Wells Fargo’s credit resolution group and a managing director with Wells Fargo Foothill’s specialty finance group. Before joining Wells Fargo, Nelson was a commercial finance and restructuring attorney in private practice. He is a past chair of the finance committee of the American Bar Association Board of Governors. Nelson received his B.A. from Michigan State University and his J.D. from the UCLA School of Law.
ERIC WINTHROP Houlihan Lokey Eric Winthrop is a managing director at Houlihan Lokey. He is a member of the firm’s Los Angeles financial restructuring group and specializes in financial restructuring, M&A and financing transactions. Prior to joining Houlihan Lokey, Winthrop was a member of the corporate finance, restructuring and disputes group of Price Waterhouse. He is a member of the Turnaround Management Association and the American Bankruptcy Institute. Winthrop is also registered with FINRA as a general securities representative and a limited representative – investment banking. He holds a B.A. in business economics, with honors, from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
LARRY PERKINS Conway Mackenzie, Inc. Larry Perkins is a board member and western region leader of Conway MacKenzie, Inc. He has played leading roles as chief restructuring officer, turnaround advisor and interim chief financial officer to middle market companies. Prior to joining Conway MacKenzie, Perkins was the founder and president of El Molino Advisors, a boutique turnaround consulting firm. Prior to that, he was an associate in Arthur Andersen’s Strategy Group. He then provided consulting services under the umbrellas of Alvarez & Marsal and Nightingale & Associates. He holds a B.A. in business administration from the University of Southern California’s Marshall School of Business.
TODAY’S MODERATOR WILLIAM KUEHN William Kuehn Associates Bill Kuehn is an independent consultant and interim executive. He advises owners and management of underperforming middle market businesses in growth and turnaround assignments. His experience spans a wide range of industries, including manufacturing and distribution, food and beverage, healthcare, wellness, software, energy and real estate. In addition to his independent work, Kuehn has led turnaround and restructuring projects for Prolman Associates, XRoads Business Solutions, Price Waterhouse and Kibel Green, Inc. He holds a B.A. in history from Stanford University and an M.B.A from Harvard University.
