THE WHITE SUPREMACY OF TRUMP GOES ON by Bro. Austin R. Cooper, Jr.

The cancer that is racism and white supremacy are alive in American politics, and the disease has metastasized since the 2016 presidential elections. Actually, if we are getting to the root of this most recent occurrence, we must return to 2008.

That the American people elected a Black man with a blatantly “foreign” name to the White House was an unforgivable sin for far too many. Staining the White House with a Black familywas far too much for many people to stomach what they saw as a stain on democracy, decency and the ultimate political achievement. The sin to them was simply unpardonable. Had President Barack Obama not been elected and served two terms, the segment of American people who were undone by the sin would have never sunk so low as to elect Donald J. Trump to The White House. Even the most ignorant of racists would have laughed and said, “Oh Hell No!” to the man whose reputation was solidly built on lies, ridiculous braggadocio, questionable business practices, and a morally corrupt personal character.

Hillary Rodham Clinton won the popular vote but lost the Electoral College. Even conceding that she ran a poor campaign- failing to spend enough time in Ohio, Wisconsin, and Nevada with frequency doomed her campaign. And yes, racism fueled the election of 2016. Sexism added its part as well. And racism is fueling the 2022 midterms, and likely will again in 2024. Certainly, sexism will again be a factor. I remember feeling mentally and spiritually exhausted. I prayed for relief from the madness. By November 2020, after four years of enduring daily outright racism being promoted by the now-former occupant of the Oval Office, I recall feeling as if the plague I was suffering from PTS (Post-Trump Syndrome) was as terrible as the ones Moses set upon Egypt before the Exodus.

Before the election, I was suspicious about whether Trump would even concede if he lost. During those seventy-eight days between November 3rd and the inauguration, I had a frightful premonition of a federal standoff with a defeated president refusing to leave office. I worried, might he even start a nuclear war as a final belligerent denial? On the afternoon of January 6, 2021, I was on a conference call, periodically glancing up and listening to speeches by President Trump and others. I was not surprised by the commentary by anyone on the screen, including Trump. Everyone, including Trump, was enraged, frustrated, and too comfortable with lying and repeating disproven allegations of rampant election fraud.

I remember his supporters swarming the U.S. Capitol and soon began assaulting and overpowering law enforcement officers to overtake the building. I stopped listening to my conference call confused about how my television had switched from cable news to Netflix. I quickly and sadly realized that I was witnessing no movie, but real Trump TV featuring an insurrection inside the nation’s capital - at the very seat of our democracy, not by some foreign enemy, but by American citizens and alleged “patriots.”

Some 2,000 clearly uncivilized individuals were storming the Capitol, urinating and defecating the sacred halls I’d first walked as a congressional intern in 1980, and later walked as a staffer to three Members of Congress. The very same halls I continued to walk, representing clients. I was sickened and disgusted to see this. What so-called “American patriot” would treat the Capitol this way? All for the edification and honor of a deranged president who had lost...

election. Trump makes former President Richard Nixon look like a saint. The Watergate break-in and subsequent coverup all pale in comparison to the criminal investigations which have engulfed him. From his pre-presidency, his single term in the White House and at Mar-a- Lago, and post-reelection failures. This immoral, racist, criminal manages to maintain a stronghold over the current GOP.

The twice-impeached Trump has now been subpoenaed to testify before the Jan. 6 Congressional Committee. Here’s what I know. Had President Obama been responsible for leading an insurrection against the government that he had sworn to “preserve, protect, and defend,” he would have been impeached, removed from office, disbarred, charged with treason, and jailed. At least. Even by a Democratically controlled Congress. Had Obama been caught on tape mocking grabbing women by their private parts, his presidential campaign would have immediately ended. He would have had to resign in disgrace from the Senate. If top secret classified documents had been found in his home, and Obama had refused repeated requests for their return to the National Archives, as has Trump, there’s no question that he would be in jail, his home searched, and those documents reclaimed.

Yet Trump remains free. And a viable candidate for president in 2024.

What possible argument could support this scenario other than white supremacy?

What is it? I’m listening.
