Letter from the Editor

WHEN YOU THINK OF AN INFLUENCER, YOU MIGHT AUTOMATICALLY THINK OF SOCIAL MEDIA INFLUENCERS. HOWEVER, IN THIS ISSUE, WE GO BEYOND THE INSTA FEEDS, AND FACEBOOK LIKES AND INSTEAD FOCUS ON THE RIPPLE THAT YOU CAN CREATE WHEN YOU AREN’T HELD BACK BY FEELING LIKE AN IMPOSTER.

Y

ou might feel insignificant and ask yourself who am I to shine bright or to step into the limelight to share yourself, your message, services or skill set within the world. In the sea of billions of people and within the universe you might think ‘who am I to stand out & be seen, I am but a speck of dust in the scheme of things?. If you feel like this, I get it.

6

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

However, how many stars are in the sky? Billions if not trillions. Do we not stare in wonder at each one? Do we not exclaim and get excited if we see a shooting star burning bright on its transformational journey from one place to another? We do not turn away in disgust because that star shone brighter or takes a different path; instead, we

find it magical and transfixed by its brilliance. And as it flies through the sky, it shines its light on all those it passes awakening, igniting, inspiring and motivating others to be courageous enough to do the same. Yes there will be people who will ignore, speak out about your brilliance, yet those are the ones who feel as if they have lost their magic and will try to take others to

fill their void. It is not you per se; you are just in their line of sight. Do not let others stop you from being you or doing the work that sets your soul alight.

Imposter syndrome can be debilitating; it will make you doubt your every move and how you value your products or services.

It’s not easy to navigate, yet shine on you must because people are looking up at the sky wishing and hoping to watch your journey as your transform and soar while they get to experience your magic that will change their lives forever. Never stop being you, never stop sharing your message, stories, dreams and desires because the universe wants you to ignite your inner light that will guide your way and ignite others along the way. Imposter syndrome can be debilitating; it will make you doubt your every move and how you value your products or services. It will stop you from marketing yourself and your wares. However, if you are willing to do the inner work, stop the need for perfection, or the continual need to prove to yourself and the world that you are the best and release the fear that someone will uncover that you are a fraud, you will do something magnificent. You will step into your power! You will stop doubting yourself and start being able to go deeper and further with your work. Your energy becomes stronger and clearer, life becomes easier, and your work flows. More and more people see you and if you should so choose by sharing your truth, your message and your work you start impacting more people creating a ripple of positivity into the world. You become an influencer in the most empowering of ways. Whether it is influencing your family, friends or community, you have a responsibility to shine your light bright in a world where many have lost their way and seek the support, activation, and inspiration to change their lives. You have that power you only have to trust… yourself!

3D Transitions and the Real Imposter In Socially Conscious Business By Louise O’Reilly “I FEEL LIKE A FAKE. A FRAUD. A PHONEY” THESE ARE COMMON THOUGHTS WE HAVE HAD SWIRL THROUGH OUR HEADS ABOUT BUSINESS.

E

very second we are transitioning further from a masculine, 2-dimensional way of doing business (this is who I am and this is what I sell), into a feminine, 3-dimensional way of doing business (this is who I am, this what I sell, and this is what I stand for). People are becoming more and more conscious of the way they consume and to whom they give their money to. Social impact is now a deciding factor when purchasing products and services. And we as entrepreneur’s are inevitably transitioning into that 3-dimensional way of business if we desire the continuation of our business. The beautiful thing about it is, the transition into the 3D business model isn’t driven by the change in the way people are buying, but in fact, because business owners feel a call from within to be a part of creating change. To start innovating a world that’s more socially and environmentally conscious. The change in consumer purchasing is merely the nudge needed to make a stand on those local and global issues. Returning back to those thoughts of self-doubt I open this conversation with, the addition of that 3rd dimension of business also has some possible obstacles in business that I’d like to make you aware of. So, those feelings of being a fake, or being afraid that someone, at any

8

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

moment, may unmask you and the facade you’ve been putting up in your business… it’s not real. You are skilled, you are knowledgeable and you are amazing in every way. That little voice that pops in to tell you otherwise is sometimes known as imposter syndrome, where you feel like an imposter or you don’t belong in that space. It can drain you of joy, of fun, of motivation, and of the want to be seen or heard. This is a big problem in business. The interesting thing about this happiness-sucker, is it doesn’t just show up in your business as a blanket thought of self-doubt. It can creep its way into every dimension of our business. In dimension 1, it makes you question who you are, your worth, your confidence, self-esteem, and your authenticity. In dimension 2, it taunts you with the thoughts of inadequacy of your skill, your gift, and your knowledge in business. You start to question, your products, your services, your marketing and your ability to deliver your products and services to your clients. Then we have dimension 3. And because this dimension is something relatively new in the world of small to medium business, it brings a whole new level of the imposter phenomenon. Especially when it comes to businesses choosing

to become allies in social issues about the equality and inclusion of marginalised and oppressed groups of people. Going from a space where you know who you are and you are knowledgeable in your field and moving into a new dimension of business where you may not know where you fit into the conversation, where you aren’t sure what is and isn’t appropriate to say, and you’re acutely aware that you can’t draw on your own personal life experiences means there’s a massive space within you and your business that the imposter syndrome can wreak havoc in. It can add to your fears of not knowing what to do or say to make a stand on social issues, it can increase your fear of causing offence, and it can make you fear you’ll be judged as being tokenistic or performative. On top of that, it can also compound your self-doubt in dimensions 1 and 2. At this point, you’re probably thinking, this 3rd dimension of business is too overwhelming. And I would agree with you if I didn’t have the final piece to the 3rd dimension of business and that’s a vision. I have a vision of a world where everyone is respected, valued, loved and heard. Where our sameness

and our differences are celebrated and embraced. A world where everyone has an equal opportunity to reach their potential. Where we can be our complete, real, raw and authentic self and not fear rejection. Where we can stand in our power and choose how we identify and for that choice to be seen, heard and respected. It’s a world where everyone can take up space and share their voice. It’s a wondrous world. One that I daydream about regularly. I’m not satisfied with the world we live in today. I’m not satisfied with the status quo. Not for me, not for my babies, and by choosing to hold that vision of an inclusive world in my mind, I’m able to shake off those imposturous thoughts and show up in that 3rd dimensional space for my business. Being a heart-centered entrepreneur, I’m guessing you’re not satisfied with the world you live in either. You’re here to create a change in the world in some way. What is the change you want to be creating? What type of world do you want to be creating? Is equality your thing, is feminism, is ridding the world of racism or discrimination of any kind? For anyone wanting to start transitioning into the 3rd dimension of business, I have 5 things you can do straight away:

1 2

Dream up your vision for the future. Daydream about the beauty and amazingness of it. Imagine what it feels like to live in that world. Milk every second of those good feeling daydreams. This’ll help you define what it is you want to make a stand on in business. Curate your social media feeds. On each of your social media platforms, search for experts in those social issues that (and this is the important part) have first hand experience in the social issue they are an expert in. For example, if the eradication of racism is what your vision is focused on, follow people who have first hand experience with being victimised based on their racial identity.

3

Block out personal & business development time in your diary every week to listen to the voices of marginalised people. Listen with compassion, with curiosity,

and with an open mind. Listen without judgment and be willing to sit with your uncomfortability and with the things that trigger you. You’re expanding your mind and your understanding of our shared world with new perspectives. This expansion can feel uncomfortable sometimes.

4 5

Assess and build a deep understanding of your privilege. This’ll not only help you to process some of the things that triggered you but it’ll also help you understand how you can effectively contribute to creating the social change you want to see in the world. Take action! It’s a learning process and will continuously evolve with your learning. We’re probably going to get it wrong at some point, and that’s ok. If we always remain open to apologising if necessary and correcting our mistakes, we’re making progress. Things don’t change if people don’t take action. Social change requires people and businesses to take action socially in order to create impact or influence change. A bonus tip is, if you need support in making the transition into a 3-dimensional business or you want to know how you can inspire and create the greatest change through your business, get a coach or mentor who has first-hand experience in the social issue you’re focussing on, who can also support you in showing up as an ally through business too. The truth of it is, you are real, you are authentic, and you are a genuine, amazing person who not only has the skills and knowledge to deliver your products and services. You’re also someone who has a vision for the future, one that looks different at the world we have right now. You can choose to be an active contributor in the creation of that vision through the 3rd dimension of your business. The real fake, the real fraud and the real phony is Imposter Syndrome itself. Imposter syndrome is really a message of expansion and not of being an imposter at all. Take the message with excitement and grace for your expansion. And go bring your vision of a better world into reality. You got this!

“Comparison is the thief of all

JOY”

Theodore Roosevelt

By Caroline Bellenger AFTER SEVERAL YEARS OF OPENING MY GYM I REALISED THAT WHAT I WAS PASSIONATE ABOUT WAS MUCH MORE THAN JUST PHYSICAL FITNESS AND WEIGHTS PROGRAMS. I WANTED TO HELP WOMEN OVERCOME THEIR DAY TO DAY STRUGGLES IN RELATIONSHIPS, CAREERS, AND MINDSET.

S

o, a usual group fitness class organically turned into a group of women supporting each through life’s challenging moments and my desire to become a Life Coach was realised. I did some research on what I would require becoming a Life Coach and I found two distinct categories. The first included a plethora of ego driven social media coaches proclaiming to have the answers to all your life’s problems in an “easy” seven days. The second category included a group of Guru’s whose reputations, life skills and millions of followers immediately disqualified me from even contemplating such a career change. How could someone as insignificant as me possibly offer anything as worthy as they did? For the next 12 months the desire in me to help other women grew and I took the brave step to start my Life Coaching Business. But deep down with every social media post or award nomination I could not shake that feeling of being an imposter. Even positive feedback from clients, friends and social media followers could not persuade the nagging feeling inside me.

10

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

I had done a lot of self-development work in the years earlier, so it surprised me that I felt so insecure about this choice of career. I started to delve deeper into what was holding me back. I knew it was not a lack of experience as I had plenty of that to share in all areas of life, business, and health. I have always been a cross your T’s and dot your I’s type of person so maybe it was because I did not have a certificate to say I was qualified? Within a few months I got qualified but that only slightly diminished my feelings of imposter. I cannot say exactly when my realisation happened, but when it did, it hit me like a lightening bolt. “Comparison is the thief of all joy” – Theodore Roosevelt. The reality was I knew I could help people but by comparing myself to other life coaches I was letting all those people down. My knowledge, my skill, my experience had the ability to change people’s lives and it did not really matter whether I had a million followers or a seven-day solution. By comparing myself to other people I completely devalued my own worth and ironically that was exactly what

In a world where social media is a way of life it is easy to compare yourself to others, either to value yourself higher based on perceived flaws or to devalue your worth based on apparent success.

I wanted to inspire other women not to do! In a world where social media is a way of life it is easy to compare yourself to others, either to value yourself higher based on perceived flaws or to devalue your worth based on apparent success. The truth is none of these matters, our journey in life is not about other people and what they do, it is about who we are and what WE do. So next time you compare yourself to another person and it makes you feel less than ask yourself – Is this the journey I want to take?

Relax

With A Bear In Business By Briana Seaton

THE FEELING OF RELAXATION IS A KEY COMPONENT OF MY LIFE AND BUSINESS COACHING ROLE. IF I CAN’T ACHIEVE A RELAXED STATE, WHICH IN TURN OFFERS A SAFE SPACE TO SHARE, IT’S DIFFICULT FOR MY CLIENTS TO FIND CLARITY AND WORK TOWARDS DEVELOPING AND ATTAINING THEIR GOALS.

F

or clients to reach this level of comfortability, using a calm and relaxed approach is what ignites conversation and helps them shift both personally and professionally. So, how do I create relaxation in a life and business coaching setting? The methods I use in my business, I also use for myself. This means thinking outside the box and determining what works well for me and how I can use my experiences to do things differently in my business to make life better for my clients. Animals have always been an important part of my world from my

12

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

early years. Although I didn’t grow up with many pets, I always gravitated towards friend’s animals when having playdates. I would feel less anxious and at ease around them. The animals seemed to understand me in a way that others didn’t, and I always felt safe and heard. As an adult, my beautiful animals fill my world for the same reasons, and I knew this was something that I wanted my clients to experience too. It wasn’t until Bear, our beloved family dog started coming to the office

Briana Seaton with me after the loss of his best mate Jamaica, that it all fell into place. Studies have shown that animals, especially dogs, help reduce stress and are a healing source for humans (Relationships Australia, 2019). Although I had already been experiencing this for myself for many years, it wasn’t until I discovered how relaxed my clients became around Bear, both interstate over video calls and in-person, that I saw the actual benefits of RELAXATION in the workplace. Bear was often under my desk and insisted on being petted, and I would notice a shift in my clients. They would soften, and I would see them physically relax and begin talking freely when he was around. Bear became like a therapy dog for my clients and just as equally for himself. Given that I like to go left of field with my clients, I cannot leave out the benefits that are gained when we spend time with my horses. To some, this may seem like

an unusual approach, but anyone that knows me understands how special my horses are and the importance of them in my life. They are my ultimate escape, especially when it comes to the stresses of managing a business or two. Whether I am sitting in the paddock with them or going for a ride, I can clear my mind and relax, and get to a place where my energy shifts and I feel more centred and ready to take on the day. This, in turn, I also noticed with my clients. Whether petting or grooming my horses, they experience the warmth, positivity and power that radiates from these beautiful beings. My horses will only allow them to come into their space if they are calm and relaxed in themselves. There are many lessons of self-awareness, patience and respect that they share with us. Although animals are not for everyone, as a Life and Business Coach, I have the flexibility to get creative and engage with my clients away from the office. I am so grateful to Bear, my horses and my clients for trusting in me to custom-build an atmosphere that works for all of us. The noticeable impact on their relaxation and wellbeing, and the results we achieve together are mind-blowing. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur you need to be an influencer – period. By Sandra Stepan “YOU THINK TOO HIGHLY OF YOURSELF AND I THINK YOU JUST LIKE THE WORD ‘INFLUENCER’ A LOT”… … IS WHAT SOMEONE I SAW AS A FRIEND ONCE SAID TO ME.

M

y partner and I were on vacation in Belize with another couple that I considered close friends. One morning I was working very angrily, sharing a situation where someone was trying to steal our business name when my “friend” said to me “you just think what you do is so important; you think so

highly of yourself and I think you just like the word ‘influencer’ a lot”. I was shocked to hear that, especially since he was in the same line of business as us and especially since my partner propelled his marketing career just a short three years earlier. I’ll be honest, as much as I try not to base my self-worth on other people’s opinions, I felt awful. Suddenly this person I considered a close friend opened up about how much of a fake person he thought I was. In his eyes I was giving into the ideology of “influencers”, thinking my opinions matter on social media (how dare I). It got me thinking: is that the truth? Is that what I am doing with my career: posing as someone important, thinking I am an influencer when in fact my opinions don’t really matter? 5 years ago Sandra would have said “maybe”, but recently Sandra came to the conclusion that I am in fact an influencer. I’m not talking about having a six figure following on Instagram and signing cosmetic deals left and right – although, how awesome would that be (hello free cosmetics!) No, I realized I am an influencer in the more traditional sense: a person who has the capacity to have an effect on

14

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself (definition taken straight from the Oxford dictionary). And I realized that I have to be an influencer if I want to be a successful business owner – which, by my own and my network’s measure, I am. You see, having influence is not about posing and posting. It’s not about your followers. It’s not about the media at all. It’s about having influence: with your team, your business partners, and with yourself. And you need to have influence in those areas if you want to be a successful business owner.

You influence your business partners. Do you negotiate deals, contracts, products? Then you are an influencer. My biggest success happened when I realized that I need to influence my business partners to make decisions. On deals, on projects, on budgets. As the owner of a digital marketing agency, I have to make decisions not only for my team but also for my clients. They rely on me to make critical decisions, develop and deploy strategies, decide budgets and cut the cord when projects are not going in the direction we want them to. My clients not only appreciate, but they expect me to make decisions that drive their business forward. They rely on my expertise and experience, and they consult with me. That is what I consider influence.

You influence your team. If you have a team, you have to take an influential stance. Simple as that, being an influential leader is crucial to building a successful team and delivering successful products and services. Motivation only goes so far but influence – influence brings out the best, the most successful and

the most eager self in everyone. It makes the team thrive and continue to succeed. That is influence.

You influence yourself. Self-love in all forms is pivotal to being a successful entrepreneur. Being a business owner, a hustler, a self starter is hard. And to make it, we need to constantly reinvent, motivate and appreciate ourselves. We have to continue chasing and strengthening the light and that is called influence. In order to become a successful entrepreneur, you need to be influential. And if you are unsure of what that looks like for you, think of how your actions – big or small – influence those around you everyday. You’d be surprised by just how much they do. P.S. If you’re wondering whether I believe that I think too highly of myself the answer is… Nah. Just highly enough.

Sandra Stepan In order to become a successful entrepreneur, you need to be influential.

Sandra is a Canadian entrepreneur with a passion for helping people and businesses operate at their fullest potential. She loves dancing, playing with her cat, and travelling to keep her inspired and relaxed. Right now, her main focus is co-owning two ventures: SnapAdvantage, a boutique marketing agency that helps businesses sell more by leveraging the power of digital marketing, and HearGift, a leading hearing device brand that offers the gift of hearing for a tenth of the cost.

Perils

The

of Perceived Popularity By Ashley Klimecki

OCCASIONALLY WE CAN FIND OURSELVES OVERWHELMED WITH A DESIRE TO BE PERCEIVED IN A CERTAIN WAY, PERHAPS A LESS AUTHENTIC VERSION OF WHO WE ARE.

W

hether it’s during those awkward teenage years when we’re struggling to find our place in the world and not yet aware of how important our individuality is. Or when we choose to appear more popular than we are, by entertaining 600 Facebook friends we never actually see. We can find ourselves desperate to project a certain image, however as it filters into the business world, it can be incredibly destructive and requires a certain level of commitment to reign it back in and repair the damage. There’s no denying the overwhelming appeal of having a mass following on your Facebook page. But unless they’re engaged by your content they may as well not be there, as they are then just an inactive number that won’t bring you any closer to that next sale or extending your brand awareness in any way, shape or form. There are a few specific traps we can fall into that see us picking up these ‘fake followers’ whether it be

rectifying the situation, by culling those fake accounts. Yes, that’s right! In some cases even removing hundreds of fake accounts. How do you know they are fake? Well, there is an immediate red flag when hundreds of people have liked your page at 8 am on the same day from the same location. Why go to all that effort? The results are almost instant, with an incredible jump in overall page engagement. As posts that were previously being delivered to these fake accounts instead are now seen by more of your genuinely interested followers.

by purchasing a larger audience via an expensive scam, inappropriate giveaways, or like ladders that insist all members like each page regardless of interest levels. If these newfound followers are not intrigued by your brand, they’re simply pulling overall engagement right back and Facebook will deliver your posts to these ‘fake followers’ taking away from the opportunity to reach out to those who are genuinely interested. We’ve all come across scams in our personal life, well they can also exist within our business. When looking at the demographics of a Facebook page, it can be obvious almost instantly that they have fallen victim to a scam that has resulted in a liker boost. They are often unaware that

this has occurred and trusting that they had purchased legitimately targeted leads instead of ‘fake followers’ adding no value to their page past that nice liker counter appearing inflated. Competitions can also have the same effect, by drawing a crowd that may lack a genuine interest in the product or service on offer once the competition is over. Therefore diluting the volume of highly engaged followers. This problem can be lessened by ensuring your prize is very strongly tied to your brand. Can the harm be reversed? Indeed it can! If you have a large number of followers but hardly any interaction you’ll struggle to get your brand awareness out there.

When it comes to your Facebook business page, size is not everything! If you have a large number of followers but hardly any interaction you’ll struggle to get your brand awareness out there. Whereas a page with fewer followers can be much more successful if the engagement levels are quite high. These high engagement levels ensure the overall reach is much higher and posts are spread to an increased audience thus allowing further opportunities to gain those new followers naturally.

who holds a Bachelor’s Degree in business, Executive Women in Leadership Certification from Cornell University, and is currently earning a Master's Degree. Making it happen has always been part of her methodology. Mumpreneur Movement: Why did you start a business? Maritza: Freedom. The word alone aspires for me to work with others who are seeking the same sentiment. As a communications strategist and health advocate, I enjoy mindfully taking a client’s message and amplify it. I help create your audience. Combining my lifelong passion for communications with my mission of improving the wellbeing and harmony of others. I do this by creating campaigns for creatives, and this fuels me to be their biggest cheerleader! Mumpreneur Movement: How has becoming a mum changed the way you do business?

Maritza: I am not a mom; however, I play the role of one. It’s a part of life that I cherish. I based my business decisions with him in mind. I work for his life to always be a happy one. Mumpreneur Movement: What are some of the challenges you have overcome since starting a business? Maritza: A challenge is acquiring the clients needed to stay afloat. Working with clients who believe and understand your worth is valuable. I am not a mom; however, I play the role of one. It’s a part of life that I cherish and always make a conscious decision to spend as much time with my loved one. Mumpreneur Movement: How have you been able to grow your business to what it is today? Maritza: I have been able to work with clients who I have worked with in the past. Maintaining those relationships has helped with business referrals and repeat business. I envision expanding my client base globally. Working with individuals from different cultures fulfills my purpose. Mumpreneur Movement: So many women in business have struggled over the last year with COVID-19 what advice do you have for them? Maritza: ‘Stay’ ready in order not to ‘get’ ready. Always be financially prepared because, COVID or not, the world is unpredictable, and only you can save yourself if you have enough savings stowed away. Bounce back by taking small steps and always remember your why. Let your strategic ways come authentically. Mumpreneur Movement: How have you been able to overcome your own and others limiting beliefs of what you are capable of? Maritza: Absolutely! A growth mindset has been very important in overcoming past abuse in the workplace. Using the power of a growth mindset has improved my approach to myself and my clients.

Mumpreneur Movement: When in a negative mind space you talk about getting out of your head and asking the question What can I do to be of service? How does this help? And why is this an important question to ask yourself? Maritza: We all have certain degrees of negative self-talk. Acknowledgment is the first step of this negative mind space, then is having the conscious ability to stop, breathe, and speak positively about yourself and your talents. I would ask, would you want your children to talk bad about themselves? Most likely not. Asking ourselves this former question can surely bring us back to the present moment and be kinder to ourselves.

I envision expanding my client base globally. Working with individuals from different cultures fulfills my purpose.

Mumpreneur Movement: What is a must have that’s in your life right now? Maritza: Inner peace. Now and forever. Mumpreneur Movement: Is there anything else that you would like to share? Maritza: I am excited to share my deepest aspirations in hoping to guide others to do the same. Mumpreneur Movement: Is there anything you would like to offer our audience/community? Maritza: When applicable, I would like to offer a 30-minute discovery call to talk about their brand/ business.

From Where Do You Derive Your

Power? By Maritza Diaz

THIS PAST MONTH ON LINKEDIN, I POSTED MY NEXT LIFECHANGING MOMENT. IN THE ONLINE SPACE, WE OFTEN ANNOUNCE OUR NEXT PROJECTS, EVENTS, AND OTHER NEWS TO PROMOTE AND CONNECT. THE DESIRE TO CONNECT HAS BEEN AN ADJUSTMENT FOR US ALL.

T

his past summer, with so much unwanted change, served as a time to reflect and dive deeper into my core to discover what would be next. Gaining more knowledge was the chosen path. Over the summer, I enrolled in Cornell’s Executive Women in Leadership Certification. The course was far beyond what I expected. The program was an intense course where reflection took center stage. In retrospect, the course served as a counseling session on my past work experiences. What I discovered is a treasure trove of examples that provided different types of leadership styles. Some of these leadership styles were effective, but most of my observations on their leadership behavior were less flattering and largely ineffective in moving the organization to the next developmental growth level. Those past experiences shaped my perspective to empower others by customizing plans managing talent upward, rather than out of the organization. This years’ pandemic has crippled some of us and has caused us to reflect and seek a more purpose driven life and be COVID-conscious.

It has caused most of us to search for our innate power to continue the process of evolving, adapting, and becoming something extraordinary. For some, we are still searching. Many people are relocating to other cities, changing careers, enrolling and acquiring more education, and sadly saying good-bye to those we have lost to COVID as I have. Throughout the Cornell course, ‘gravitas’ was often used to show how we can carry ourselves. Gravitas is a quality of deep seriousness, a dignified bearing that commands respect in others, and the ability to maintain grace under fire. Gravitas is a Roman virtue and the foundation of effective leadership. My gravitas led me to complete the leadership certification. Now I embark on my next journey to start to complete a graduate degree in marketing to learn how

better to manage digital marketing campaigns to improve organizational leadership’s inefficiencies to maximize opportunities. Marketing offers a clear view of discovering and analyzing people’s behavior toward a product or service and acquiring clients whose purpose aligns with mine. I refer to this form of marketing as intentional marketing. The process helps connect your story to the right audience while adjusting the content narrative to their stories for effective change. Often the following Spanish quote brings me gravitas, ‘querer es poder’. Loosely translated to when there’s a will, there is a way. This Spanish quote carries my motivation to keep moving and going for the sake of my family, friends, and spirit.

Gravitas is a quality of deep seriousness, a dignified bearing that commands respect in others, and the ability to maintain grace under fire.

Amanda Smith Photography, https://www.amandasmithphotos.com/

We will evolve as the world continues to change. Let’s be brave enough to embrace change as the conditions around us force movement that is sometimes unwanted but needed. The world will evolve, and you, too, will move along with gravitas.

The Reality Of

Imposter Syndrome By Tammie Pike

Everyone is going to feel like an imposter at times. The most important thing is that you don’t let these thoughts and feelings control you.

OVER THE YEARS, I HAVE HELPED WOMEN UNLEASH THEIR POTENTIAL, HONOUR THEIR WORTH AND GIFTS, AND MORE COMMONLY, THESE DAYS, I HELP WOMEN SHARE THEIR JOURNEY TO EITHER HEAL FROM, CONNECT WITH THEIR AUDIENCE AUTHENTICALLY OR TO AWAKEN, INSPIRE AND EMPOWER OTHERS.

O

ne of the main blocks many of these women have come up against starts with who am I to _____________ ? (fill in the blank)

The hardest part of running a business, stepping out of your known zone, is being seen on a larger scale, sharing your services/products and charging for your knowledge and time. It’s also overcoming the lack of self-belief and self-worth. You aren’t alone; even famous and highly successful women struggle with this too! Being one of these women myself, I know it hasn’t been an easy path to be where you are today. I can only imagine how much you have learned and grown in your lifetime. The knowledge and wisdom you have gained by living your unique experiences are priceless — not only to you but to others. It’s your biggest gift to others to share that story. Do you know the saying, “don’t shine too bright; you might burn someone”. This is what our society believes, and so many women dim themselves and hide, so they don’t upset others. I’ll give you an example I see all the time. Have you ever wanted to write a book? Many women I work with

24

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

have always dreamed of writing their book. However, they don’t believe: • • • • •

They have what it takes. Their story isn’t good enough. No one will want to read it. They don’t know enough. They don’t have enough certifications or degrees. • Aren’t well known. So they have shoved their dream of becoming an author into the deep recess of their mind. Yet, their dream is so intense that they end up reaching out to me for a chat. It usually only takes one conversation with me for a woman to see what myself and the world sees; an incredibly resilient, strong, and successful woman. It’s also building her belief that what she wants to share is needed in the world. It takes a safe space, a support system, and a network to help her feel supported in creating her book. The results of when these women finally take the step and do the work are astounding! As women, we tend to downplay or even outright ignore our natural abilities, achievements, experiences and successes. Why? Because most of the time, we feel as if we don’t deserve them. We tend to feel

guilty if we have natural talents and abilities that come easily or think we are outshining others. This is due to the negative beliefs we have been instilled in us through our society and those around us and can be summed up to an affliction millions of people feel every day, and many never overcome… the dreaded Imposter Syndrome. The phenomenon of imposter syndrome affects about 70% of people at some point in their lives.

How do you know if you have or are experiencing Imposter Syndrome? Have you ever: • Felt Like a stranger in your own body? • Felt Unworthy of success? • Downplay your achievements. • Don’t celebrate your wins, • Hide on social media. • Feel as if you are only successful due to a lucky streak • Ignored your success • Suffered from perfectionism and procrastination

don’t give it any power. Realise that it’s an imposter thought, and keep moving forward. Ask yourself if the thought is hurting or helping you. Remember that it’s essential to separate the negative feelings that are not facts from the actual facts. It’s okay that sometimes you don’t feel like yourself, but this doesn’t mean you are less than anyone else. 2. Be Open If you’re continually pushing down your negative feelings, you’re only hurting yourself. Be open and honest about these thoughts. Reach out to others so they can help you or at least have someone listen. It might mean stepping out of your comfort zone, but you might find you aren’t alone.

• Made a mistake and wonder if you were ever good enough in the first place. Anyone that feels as if they do not deserve their success feel like an imposter. If you have, you’re not alone. The good news is that you can overcome it.

Why does this happen? It’s all in the mind. Many people have certain personality traits that lead them to feel this way. Sometimes they simply feel as if they were never good enough. Some people just believe they need to be successful; otherwise, that would make them unlovable. It’s a vicious cycle. Sometimes a person’s environment will lead to feeling like an imposter. A person’s personality leads to a certain self-awareness that determines if they ever feel “good enough” in any part of their life.

How To Overcome Imposter Syndrome 1. Recognise “The Imposter” Thoughts When a negative thought comes across your mind, recognise it, but

3. Reframe Your Thoughts You cannot limit possibilities. You have to refrain from thinking that. The only difference between a person who feels like an imposter and someone who understands they’re the reason for their successes is how they respond to anything that challenges them. This means that the former just need to think like the other person. Understand that you’re successful for a reason. 4. Know You Will Fail Stepping outside your comfort zone is not a guaranteed win. You will go through challenges and failures, and you will become more resilient. If you fall short of your goals, get up and try again. You must initiate a healthy response by understanding that life is about making mistakes. You cannot be successful without failing a few times. 5. Just Do It Even if you aren’t 100% sure or an expert yet, do it anyway and learn as you go. It will help you to build your confidence as you go rather than wait until you are ‘ready’. Take risks as you climb these mountains. Those that limit possibilities never fully live. Take charge of risks, and don’t block your blessings. 6. You Were Not Born To Fit In A critical part of self-awareness is understanding that sometimes the

box is too big or too small, and you won’t fit in. If in a group and you find no one just like you, it’s only natural that you feel like a fraud. But no one is the same; if you weren’t born to fit in, that’s because you were born to stand out - and that is a positive thing. Feel the power of not fitting in. 7. Feed Your Mind With Positivity Don’t ever push these positive thoughts away. You might feel like you can do better, but don’t forget to celebrate your success no matter how big or small. Forgive yourself when you make a mistake. Feed your mind with positivity to achieve even greater things. 8. Change The Rules Be brave enough to change society’s rules by telling yourself that it’s okay to fail; it’s ok to do things differently and go off the beaten track. It’s okay to have a not-so-perfect day or not to be the perfect wife, mother, Entrepreneur or lover. It’s okay to be real and, if needed, ask for help. 9. Write & Own Your Story Don’t worry about what everyone else is thinking or doing. Just do you. Don’t let anyone else tell you what is or isn’t good enough. Only you have lived your life your way. You have so much to offer from your perspective and experience. Don’t be afraid to share your story. 10. Celebrate YOU! Visualise yourself achieving all of your dreams. When you take the time to visualise yourself knocking the ball out of the park literally and figuratively, the odds are that you will hit a home run. If you picture yourself failing, prepare to fail. Stop seeking the negative aspects and give yourself a boost of positivity by seeing your successes. Everyone is going to feel like an imposter at times. The most important thing is that you don’t let these thoughts and feelings control you. Remember that you are in charge of your mind. That imposter is not a part of you. You are stronger than your negative thoughts. Take charge and enjoy your successes. MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

Tammie: Nyree, hi! Thanks for your time today, beauty. Can you share what motivated you to run for Mayor of Rockhampton? Nyree: Thanks so much. I love my region, Tam, and I have a passion and drive to serve. With an intuitive commitment to delivering positivity and progression to the many projects I’m involved with, I felt I could make a bigger impact in my region by running for the position of Mayor. Tammie: What was the process like? Nyree: It was an amazing experience to be honest. Albeit with a few hiccups along the way. I recently wrote a blog post about the experience as a reflection piece and would love for you to take a read. https://www.nyreejohnson.com.au/ nyrees-blog/here-i-am-world-nopeoops-im-over-here/ Tammie: How did you manage to overcome the challenges and obstacles that were presented to you? Nyree: I live by the mantra that each day you get up, show up and

be better than yesterday. One step forward at all times. I have a strong mindset and am a resilient person generally, these skills came in very handy and were tested quite significantly. Tammie: How have you felt this has changed you as a woman and business owner? Nyree: I did lose friends throughout the process and there were some family members who demonstrated some colours I’m not comfortable to continue being around, which means my personal relationships have been impacted. I do feel like a much stronger person though and ready and willing to take on any challenge presented to me, on any scale imaginable. From a business perspective, I demonstrated consistently to a big audience, what it is that I’m capable of. I often joked throughout the process that it was like I was on a permanent job interview from the minute I announced publicly that I was running, until 6pm on Election night.

Get out of your own way and step out of your comfort zone because that is where the magic happens!

abilities to achieve my goals ranging from my career aspirations, my businesses, my community service and my life as Mum and wife. Recognising Imposter Syndrome is critical in stopping it in its tracks as quite often, this is what holds a lot of people back. Tammie: What have been some of the positive responses of others? Nyree: I have met so many amazing people during my campaign as well as since then, many of whom take the time to share with me their outsiders’ perspective on my campaign and how they saw me, without knowing me. Warranted too because it was the opportunity to share with the region what I could offer. The learning and acceleration on a personal and professional development perspective is not something that is likely to be achieved in two months, every day of the week, which is what I did. To justify the expense of the campaign for my family as well as those who believed in me, and unpack the answer to the question, ‘what was it all for?’, on the back of not being elected, I’ve come to the conclusion with assistance that it would have taken years, and cost six figures, to achieve the level of growth that I did in just over two short months. Tammie: How have you been able to overcome your own and others limiting beliefs of what you are capable of? Nyree: In 2018 I embarked on a journey of self-development and discovery and began exploring my options in the world, as well as truly recognising the academic ability I had within. The drive which prompted this was trauma as well as age. In 2019 I found what I had been looking for (but hadn’t realised I was looking), in the way of an Executive, Business and Life Coach. An amazing woman has helped me to unpack myself and leverage my skills and

From mentioning my corflute positioning around the region to my media appearances, then my social media presence as well as just simply being seen and recognised as someone who was accessible and transparent. These traits were exactly what I had set out to achieve with my team and it is pleasing to hear it was received the way intended. Tammie: How do you feel now, being known and seen by so many? Nyree: My favourite part of having been through this process and being well known to a degree has been giving people permission to reach out, connect and relate. Daily I am receiving messages of support and thanks for the impact that I had on a person individually. Through me and my journey, it has inspired them and prompted action on their dreams. Instilling confidence in others is something that I’m passionate about and I’m pleased it’s happening without me knowing it. There are so many amazing people in my region as well as this country and globally. Connection, collaboration, support and respect will see us empowered and confident to move forward and achieve progress. Progress for one is very different to another person though so always remember to stay in your lane and focus on you. Don’t worry about what those around you are doing.

Tammie: Who has been your support team during this time? Nyree: Oh my goodness! My team are some of the most amazing humans on this planet! I have a team of family, friends, supporters from the region who believed in me and wanted to join my team without even knowing me, as well as local business owners and fellow volunteers who I was connected with pre-campaign. I also had a large number of people who were reaching out to me, checking on me and encouraging me from the sidelines. They didn’t play an active role in the team but their support was crucial. My heart is filled with happiness when I recall the beautiful faces and names of those who worked so tirelessly to support me. Tammie: What is your advice for women who really want to achieve something out of their comfort or known zone? Nyree: Get out of your own way and step out of your comfort zone because that is where the magic happens! And always remember, ‘You are amazing and you are enough!’ Tammie: Will you run again next time? Nyree: Yes, in 2024 Tammie: What is a piece of advice that you have been given that has served you well in life, love or business? Nyree: The way you hold yourself, present yourself and keep yourself IS important. It may seem vain but in all honesty, it’s personal pride in appearance, confidence and the way you present yourself to the world. – Grandma Ross (Glenda Ross née Fritz) Always give what you can. Time, money, food, clothing etc. – Grandma Wooler (Sarah Wooler nee Brown). Tammie: That’s beautiful, thanks so much for accepting our invite and for being such an inspiration. Nyree: Thanks! That’s Me!

By Anne O’Sullivan

EVER SINCE I WAS A CHILD, ANY CREATIVE ACTIVITY WOULD MAKE MY HEART BEAT FASTER. ALTHOUGH MY MOTHER WAS A WRITER, I HAVE STEERED CLEAR OF THIS MEDIUM FOR MOST OF MY LIFE AS WRITING WAS HER DOMAIN AND I HAVE NEVER WANTED TO INTRUDE.

A

lso, girls of my generation were not actively encouraged to be good at anything in particular since getting married and having babies was the measure of success. Now, since my mother has passed away, I look back and think that she perhaps felt quite compromised. She was a religious person who always wanted to do ‘the right thing’ which seemed to involve submitting to the opinions of men. At the same time, she was an intelligent woman who became a teacher and wrote several books.

In those days, after marriage, women had to retire from the workforce. In honour of her own mother, who raised 8 children, my mother established a women’s group. I am not going to pretend to be an expert on her convictions as I was a child at the time and was more concerned with jumping on the trampoline and playing footy in the park with the other kids in the neighbourhood than listening to her talk about her beliefs. However, I know that she was very interested in having the act of raising and caring for children by women recognised as an actual job. She was quite conservative in

I am telling stories about the domestic and often hidden lives of women through using imagery instead of words. her views and clashed with some feminist groups, particularly in her belief that entering the workforce and choosing to stay at home and raise children were both equally acceptable choices. I remember that she had a copy of Germaine Greer’s The Female Eunuch* on the bookshelf in her bedroom. When I went to browse through this copy, it had disappeared. Jumping forward 30 years, I became a mother myself. Although we are very different women from 2 completely different eras, my mother and I both share the character traits of stubbornness and creativity. Although my mother was a writer, confusingly, a girl taking a creative path was not actively encouraged in my family who were very conservative in that area. Girls were raised to be carers and boys were encouraged with their careers. Because I am stubborn, I continued to pursue a creative path to the dismay of my parents. Unfortunately, I think that some of the beliefs that I learnt as a child sabotaged my progress. Eventually, as a single parent, I became breadwinner, carer and mother which was an exhausting trifecta. During these challenging years, I engaged in late night painting sessions which helped me cope with the overwhelming demands on my time and energy.

Since my mother’s death in 2018, my world has become quieter. My son is now a teenager and itching towards independence. I have had time to reflect. I am becoming much better at saying no and not being all things to all people. I feel uplifted when I hear about couples who deliberately share the workload of parenting - working, shopping, cooking and attending to the needs of the children equally. To my complete surprise, with my artwork, I seem to be addressing similar topics to my mother; our lives have come full circle and have intersected. I am telling stories about the domestic and often hidden lives of women through using imagery instead of words. I thought I was telling my own private story but this seems to strike a chord as many ladies have pointed to the heroines in my artworks and say, ‘That’s me!’

Anne O'Sullivan When I was at school, anything creative would make my heart beat faster. I probably started off painting many years ago in response to difficult situations in my life. I’ve always said that while some people paint their way into a corner, I paint my way out of one. As a working mother, much of my artwork narrates this experience. My content hovers around the traditional trifecta – still life, portrait and landscape. I am interested in experimenting with colour, light and luminosity. In the past, I have made forays into other Art media, but I always return to painting. So far, no other Art media can beat that primal contact with a canvas. I have also started making jewellery, enjoying the intimacy of these objects and the fact that people often request specific images as mementos for people or events in their lives. My work can be found at the Toowoomba Base Hospital, the University of Queensland and in private collections both in Australia and internationally. I am represented by the Uralla Gallery in NSW and I am the current feature artist..

We do not create our destiny; we participate in its unfolding By Naida Nuñez THIS STORY IS NOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED. WHERE I AM NOW, IS A PLACE I DIDN’T EXPECT TO BE IN 10 YRS AGO. LET’S BEGIN FROM WHEN I WAS BORN. IT WAS IN 1989 OF FEBRUARY, MY BIOLOGICAL MUM COULDN’T PAY FOR US TO BE RELEASED FROM THE HOSPITAL, AND 2 DAYS LATER, SOMEONE ELSE HAD TO STEP IN TO TAKE ME, AND RAISE ME AS HER OWN. I only found out about my biological mum when I was 13. I was doing so well in school. I loved school. I loved making everyone proud, and luckily, it was extremely easy to do. My mum decided to tell me the truth since I was a curious kid; I had so many questions. I asked for my birth certificate one day, and she got scared that I would find out that the woman who gave birth to me had a different name. Everyone knew that the mum who raised me, wasn’t my real mum. Everyone knew but me.

I felt betrayed; to realise that you have been living a lie, and be lied to by the people you thought was supposed to be family is something that was tough for a 13 year old. But what can I do, right? Even though at the time, I felt worthless, it felt as though the world came crashing down, I was grateful to be saved, fed, clothed, given an education, a home.

At that time, all I wanted was to find answers. Why? Why was I abandoned? I rebelled against the family who raised me. I went looking for a family or just someone, who wouldn’t lie to me, someone who will make me forget the betrayal, to not feel the pain. I didn’t do drugs or anything like that in case you’re wondering. But my quest led me to fall for the wrong men. I wanted so much to create a family to call my own. I wanted so much to prove to myself, that not everyone you love will lie to you, not everyone is going to leave you. Someone out there is going to choose you. I was once told, “Stop looking, they probably don’t even care about you”. That hurts. Heaps. I don’t believe what people say, because the trust issue that I have is soul-deep. I felt the need to find answers and get them straight away. But, we don’t get answers when we want to and how we want to. We get them when we least expect them. I ended up creating my own family, which is something I’ve always wanted to do in the first place, however, I had to take all the responsibilities that came with it. I found my biological family, they weren’t what I expected them to be.

work with the universe, and everything started to fall into place. I started to recognise that the purpose of everything that happened in the past was for everyone’s highest good. My kids are blessings. They gave me reasons to be strong and have faith in the universe again.

It’s true that when you fight against the universe, you will never win. Perhaps, I also wasn’t what they expected me to be. They are okay in their own right, but they pay little to no attention to me nor my kids. But that’s okay too. I can’t judge because I don’t know what they’ve gone through. The woman who raised me is a single parent of 5. She’s a widow when she took me in. Her influence on me is so strong; giving up on your kids has never been and will never be an option. She’s not my real mum but she’s always been a mother to me and my girls. She’s able to raise us, and at the same time be able to help the needy ones from the province. No matter what life threw at her, she faced everything by herself and didn’t give up on her children. She’s a woman of strength and honour. She’s amazing! I can’t help but compare. But I don’t believe in coincidences. I was given away for a reason. My mum accepted me and my flaws, and loved me unconditionally. For what it’s worth, I forgive my biological mum, and thankful for the decision she made when she let me go. What I have been looking for was there all along. I dwell in so much pain and sadness in the past, I hid in the dark and I was unable to see the love that was already there. It’s true that when you fight against the universe, you will never win. I learned to

When I had my youngest one, I had no choice but to leave my 9 to 5 job. I had no one to rely on. I left my dream job with only a few pennies in my wallet. But I learned how to cook aubergine, carrots and eggs in so many different ways! I reached rock bottom. Even worse, I had a baby who’s less than a year old with me. I was so scared but I remained brave and hopeful. I thought to myself, “my life doesn’t end here”. I had to be strong for my kids. And the one who was constantly there for me is the same person I tried to run away from - my mum. Those bitter trials were blessings in disguise. I had to experience them to make me realise who is there for me and who isn’t. I was forced to work on something else, somewhere else, to heal and embrace change. To find out later on that those tower moments led me exactly where I needed to be. I am now working with awesome CEOs from home, earning a lot more than I used to, collaborating with the best in their industries, and most importantly learning more about growth and life in general. I have definitely created a family; a family that extends world wide. I am now able to provide to my girls and my cats, give them a better life, food, education, and a safe environment to grow. I am now a UNICEF Champion; a part of my earnings help feed, give education and shelter to 10 abandoned, homeless kids every month. Influence is not just what we say, it’s also everything that we do to create a positive change. When I started working with the universe and let things unfold naturally, I not only found my passion and purpose but I also found contentment, happiness and the true meaning of the word “Family”.

Own Your H

Why By Megan Jaworski

I WAS SITTING ON A COLD HARD FLOOR IN A HOUSE IN BULAWAYO, ZIMBABWE. IT WAS THE EARLY HOURS OF THE MORNING, AND SEVEN SMALL BODIES WERE LYING AROUND ME SLEEPING. IN MY ARMS WAS A TENYEAR-OLD BOY WHO WAS TELLING ME HIS LIFE STORY.

34

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

e was six years old when he ran away from home to take his chances of survival on the streets of Harare due to domestic violence. He showed me scars on his body and shared stories of the horrors he received whilst living on the streets. As he was telling me this, tears were streaming down my cheeks. What do you say to a child telling you such horrors? I looked down at him and said the only words that came to my mind: “If you could have one thing in this world, what would it be?” He looked up at me with a glimmer of hope in his eyes and said, “all I want is to go to school.” You know those pivotal moments in your life where the words that come out of your mouth next shape the course of your life forever? This was one of those moments. I looked down at him and replied, “For as long as you need to go to school, I will make sure you go to school.” I kept my promise. I had no idea what I was doing. I was twentyseven years old living in Zimbabwe as a white Australian teacher volunteering with a local organisation to run a school holidays program

used as a filter for what we say ‘yes’ to. Simon Sinek says,

I knew education was key to help break the poverty cycle and I was determined to make a sustainable, lasting change.

“people don’t buy what you do, they buy why you do it.”

I partnered with a local organisation, Our Neighbours, and together, we began a school. In Australia we registered a charity called Edge Foundation. In the past decade we’ve been able to raise close to half a million dollars which has led to employing tens of local teachers and a social worker, buying a school building and school bus, and sending over 100 children to school. Since running a charity and launching my business two years ago, I’ve noticed that when I own who I am and become aligned to this, there’s no limit to the impact we make. I believe there are three key elements to do this:

1. Know your why When you’re clear on your ‘why’, making decisions becomes easier because it’s

Being clear on this not only supports the decisions you make, but it also makes it easier for others to buy from you or buy into what you do.

2. Be clear on your values The decisions you make daily are based on your top values, whether you’re consciously aware of them or not. Being aware of your values and then creating ‘rules’ or ‘metrics’ around how to live them will guide your decisions. What do you value most? Are they in alignment to who you want to be?

3. Create Empowering Beliefs Your beliefs shape the stories you tell yourself about what you can and can’t do, who you are, and what you’re worthy of. They guide the decisions you make, the habits you create and how you experience life. Creating beliefs that work FOR you, allows you to overcome challenges and step into your power. What do you believe to be true about yourself? Is it helping or harming you? It’s not easy making an impact, yet being clear on your why, your values and backing yourself with powerful beliefs will make you an unstoppable force for good.

Shifting from

FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER, I HAVE BEEN HIGHLY SENSITIVE, EMPATHIC AND INTUITIVE.

age of 21 when I was invited to join a group at my local Spiritualist church. When I arrived to the first class I discovered that I was the youngest person in the group by about 20 years or more. I had no idea what I was doing and I certainly did not understand the language that they were speaking. Words such as guides, spirit, psychometry, meditation and the Universe were completely foreign to me. What I quickly discovered however was how easy it was for me to do what they did, it felt amazing and I finally felt as though for the first time in my life that I "fitted" somewhere. I was no longer the freak in the group, I was just like everyone else. The self judgement and comparison I experienced throughout this time was crippling. Each time that I did a reading or a demonstration I would walk away filled with self doubt and over anylise everything that I had said and done. I eventually decided that the stress and anxiety of doing this work was too much and I stopped.

In 2014 I went through a life changing reawakening, I had sent an SOS out to the Universe to save me from the self destructive life I was living. A deal was made with the Universe, I promised that if it helped me save me from myself I would embrace my intuition, I would reconnect with my healing modalities and I would be of service. To do this however I knew that I needed to shift my internal self talk from that of self criticism, unworthiness and self hatred to that of self compassion, self love, self acceptance and forgiveness. This would be the only way that I would be able to share my story, my journey and

my voice with the world if I was to keep my promise. To do this I learned that I would need to rewire the neuro pathways in my brain and this soon became my quest or my obsession. I discovered Gabrielle Bernstein at this time and learned the following technique from her. Wearing a band on my wrist, each time that I had a negative thought about myself I would flick this band and say 'I love and approve of myself" This is just one of the many tools that I discovered on my quest, self compassion and forgiveness was achieved through daily meditation, a practice that I continue today.

Mumpreneur Movement: Why did you start a business?

38

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

Christine: I came to a point where I realised I needed to stop putting the needs of someone else, and their families needs, above the needs of my own family.

I have shared care of my children with their father. On the day’s where I had to open the shop I’d have to bring my kids down to work in the morning and whilst I was setting up shop my partner would come down from his work to pick the kids up and take them to school. Then the kids would be in after school care. In school holidays, if they weren’t in care, I was driving interstate so I could drop my kids to family. Then I was back so I could be at work.... I never got to enjoy school holidays with my young children.

Why? Because I couldn’t say ‘No’ to my boss. Or on the occasion I did, they would make me feel guilty because they wanted to do something with their family or had no staff. I had decided to do an introduction into relaxation massage and later my Reiki I. I had been wanting to do my Reiki for a long time, though each time I had set the date something would come up- including work. Finally I put my foot down, stuck to my guns and said I wasn’t available to work that weekend as I was out of town. The boss said, “That’s ok. If I need you I’ll call and you can come back”. This was a big eye-opener for me and I realised no matter what I did or didn’t do for my work- I wasn’t respected by my boss. I had to stand strong and honour my needs. So I made it very clear that I was out of phone reception and am not available... which was also very true. And so began my deep Self Discovery Journey. Twelve months later I gave my boss three weeks notice with my resignation knowing I was ready to create a healing space with my own business. I finished on the 5th of December 2015. I remember someone asking me ‘What will you do? You don’t have a client base- you’ve got nothing.’ I just smiled and said ‘I have no idea, I just trust and have complete faith that everything will work out’. Those Christmas Summer holidays were the best for me- and I loved every minute. The first holidays where I was completely with my children, with no rushing around, and for them to experience the joy they had of having their Mum all to themselves (and not be in holiday care) was priceless.

they were sick or school holidays meant the world to my family and was so important for me. The more I’ve discovered about myself through my work, and healing modalities for myself, the deeper my passion has become in helping others. My business, Eternal Lotus, opened for business on the 9th of February 2016. Since then, I have grown and changed so much- so too has Eternal Lotus. I am so grateful for everything that transpired in the lead up to me creating my business and am incredibly proud of everything I have achieved and continue to create. Mumpreneur Movement: What are some of the challenges you have overcome since starting a business and having children? Christine: Boundaries. When I first started out in my business I made myself overly available for clients, thus allowing them to dictate time slots and me fitting in around them. All I was concerned about was ensuring I gave my client the best experience to help them feel better and hope that they would be a returning client so I had a steady income. Really, this in a way was one of the reasons why I went into business in the hope of working around my family’s needs and not putting others before my family.

they are and that they can only see me on this day. I have learnt over time that people always have something going on in their lives that they need, and sometimes demand, your help with. I am very grateful that I have learnt how to implement my boundaries. This doesn’t mean I can’t be flexible or refer them to someone who I believe can help them, for that I certainly do if needed. As a result of me implementing my boundaries in general, not just in business, my headspace is much more peaceful. This has given my home a more peaceful feel too. Mumpreneur Movement: What is your favourite part of being a mum and business owner? Christine: I can create my own working schedule around my children. This is one of the main reasons I went into business for myself. Mumpreneur Movement: How have you been able to overcome your own and others limiting beliefs of what you are capable of? Christine: For this I can truly, and wholeheartedly, thank myself for having the courage to learn the ThetaHealing® technique for myself.

Over the years I changed my strategy. I did loads of belief work through my ThetaHealing courses and learnt how to implement my boundaries.

This has truly helped change my life in so many ways. So much so, I went on to become an instructor so I could teach others how they too can change their limiting beliefs that may have been passed down through the generations of their family or from trauma they may have experienced.

Sometimes someone will message me (usually someone who knows me personally) and say how desperate

By changing these we are truly allowing ourselves to live the best life we have been gifted with.

I feel teary just recalling how great this was. I’ve always enjoyed helping people, though it was my children who were a huge part of my drive to create my own business. So I could structure my working week around when I had them, school awards and sports, if

If my story can plant the seeds of inspiration, or bring the slightest bit of hope to someone else, then that lights my heart and makes my Soul sing. MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

39

Mumpreneur Movement: What is a piece of advice that you have been given that has served you well in life, love or business? Christine: ‘Be open to everything and attached to nothing’ This was a saying that I heard in my very first ThetaHealing class and it changed the way I think and manifest. If you are adamant that something must happen a particular way you could be blocking something bigger than you could possibly imagine. By not being attached to an outcome, or the way something ‘has to’ come into your life, you’re actually allowing far more amazing opportunities to enter your world. It was after learning this saying that manifested myself a new car. I had been manifesting for a particular new car for at least two years. I would write down all the details including the make, model and colour of the car. I even took that particular car for a test drive. Still nothing. Then after learning of this saying I changed the way I did my manifestations. I wrote my needs in a car. I have two growing children who were going into their teens. They have friends who would also be in the car. I travel to teach Energetic Healing, so I needed plenty of room for my supplies and luggage... you get the idea. Yet I wasn’t attached to this. I just trusted in it and let it go. One day I was walking past the car dealership and saw there was a demo sale on. I thought I’d pop in and have a look. I told the sales clerk what I was looking for and including the price range. After looking at a few the clerk pointed a car out that was way down the back- tucked away in a small corner. “And there it is” I thought immediately. I took a demo of this car out for a test drive and loved it. It had everything that was on my list! The best part of all? 40

| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT

When they delivered my car to me they apologized for putting 55km on the speedo, because they had to get it to me. It took me a minute to clickthis was a brand new car! I thought I was buying a second hand car. Yay Me!!! So because I had no attachment to any of this, I allowed something even better to come into my world. Mumpreneur Movement: What do you love most about being an author? Christine: Sharing my story. I own my story, it doesn’t own me. If my story can plant the seeds of inspiration, or bring the slightest bit of hope to someone else, then that lights my heart and makes my Soul sing. What is a must have that’s in your life right now? Christine: Trust and Faith. No matter how uncertain things may look or suddenly change, feel crappy or make me question things- I always have trust in the Divine Universe that I am always supported and Faith that everything works out for my best and highest good.

This is how I took the big leap of faith in starting my own business and trusting in the Universe that it will all work out. I’m not saying it’s been all sunshine and rainbows for me- far from it in some cases. Though reflecting back on some of those harder times I can see why that had occurred- and yet I continued to trust and have faith..... things did work out well. With the way the World is changing it’s imperative that we have trust and faith within ourselves and the decisions we make for our own future. Mumpreneur Movement: Is there anything you would like to offer our audience/community? Christine: Yes. I would like to offer your amazing audience a discounted offer. What great impact a small act of

kindness can have By Peter Chiricosta WHAT IF DATING WAS MORE FREE FLOW AND OPEN TO ALL POSSIBILITIES, INTERACTING AS HUMANS AND LACKED PRE DETERMINED EXPECTATION? WHAT IF WE MOVED AWAY FROM THE ‘I WANT’ AND FOCUS ON HOW DATING CAN BE A MUTUAL GROWTH OPPORTUNITY.

I

recently met a woman through a dating app. Let’s call her Stacy. A vibrant, driven woman, with a powerful entrepreneurial spirit. Apart from our common interests and life goals, I loved how honest Stacy was about dipping her toes back into dating and wanting to take things slow, getting to know each other before becoming physically intimate. A rare approach today. I was also coming through a rough patch and going slow suited us both. While dating Stacy there were wonderful, deep conversations and (non sexual) intimate moments of holding each other in a caring embrace. There was also an awkward contrast at times, that had us both asking “Why am I triggered by this person? What is the lesson in this? Are they interested?” MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

41

Through all of this, Stacy, a camping enthusiast, invited me away for my first camping trip. To connect with nature and each other. I thought “How lovely, this could be a great new experience... yet with one tent & one mattress, are things progressing or is this going to get weird and end up with me stranded in the wilderness? It’s a risk but...LET’S DO IT!” Although camping and hiking are great natural experiences, there were a few, comical and uncomfortable moments along the way. The first, going in one car, knowing I had to see this through no matter what. Then trail running to see a great waterfall and swimming hole, only to find a stagnant puddle that looked as though I’d end up with Bali Belly, should the water contact my mouth. This wasn’t going to deter me from enjoying Stacy’s company and the purpose of the trip but as we all know, things come in threes. While sitting around the campfire eating dinner, Stacy friendzoned me. She explained how elements of my personality reminded her of her significant Ex’s and this greatly triggered her. Though feeling trapped, deflated and wanting to flee, I knew that triggers are potential growth moments, so with a long period of awkward silence, I asked myself “Do you really want to take the easy ‘woe is me’ path of the past? Or, do you want to take the risk and try turning this situation around? After all Stacy was brave enough to be honest, which deserves respect. Be open.” I then saw how my Life Coaching skills could come into play, if Stacy was willing to meet me half way. She agreed to go through a couple of mindset processes around the triggers she experiences with me, allowing a

new, positive experience with those Ex’s utilising me as somewhat of a proxy. So together that night, we went through the first process, which brought great insight and closure to some of those triggers and allowed me to hold the space and not take things personally. After a night of interrupted sleep, between my irrational fear of bears ripping through the tent and paranoia of keeping to the furthest edge of our shared mattress, we woke up in the morning and carefully discussed how we both felt with the previous night’s experience, which was very positive. Stacy asked me about the second mindset process, which led into us going through that together, which rounded off the emotional experience and brought another level of insight and a clearer path moving forward. On the way home, I felt conflicted. Part of me thought “What on earth just happened? No waterfall, friend zoned, fear of bears in Australia? I’m confused.” Another part was thinking “Wow, what an experience. We worked together to move beyond our triggers, past behaviours and share a beautiful weekend of human connection, growth and adding value to each other’s lives.” Before we parted ways, we both expressed our deep gratitude and appreciation for each other. For being open, honest and willing to work together. Could this have turned out to be a disaster? Absolutely! Though taking risks, stepping outside your comfort zone, choosing ‘we’ not ‘I’, really can make a difference to all lives involved. Let’s change the way we think or interact with internet dating and add value on a human level because you never know what great impact a small act of kindness can have.

We worked together to move beyond our triggers, past behaviours and share a beautiful weekend of human connection, growth and adding value to each other’s lives. 42

WHEN A WOMAN HEALS

THE RIPPLE EFFECT by Kim Herman

AS MUM’S WE SO OFTEN PUT OURSELVES LAST. WE LIVE IN A WORLD WHERE MAINSTREAM SOCIETY PROMOTES A ‘TOUGH-IT-OUT’ CULTURE; WHERE WOMEN SACRIFICE THEMSELVES FOR THEIR FAMILIES; ALL WHILE TRYING TO ACHIEVE THE GOAL OF BEING THE PERFECT MUM – WHILE RUNNING THE ‘PERFECT’ BUSINESS OR HAVING THE ‘PERFECT’ CAREER.

S

o many women feel a sense of selfishness to take care of their own needs. When we ignore our needs and wellbeing the impact of that can be felt far and wide. After the birth of my two children, my inner emotional world began to unravel. All the hurt emotions I had suppressed and ignored over my younger years began to rise to the surface. Overwhelm and anxiety crept in and became part of my daily life.

Initially, I refused to allow myself to care for myself and my needs. My priority was my children and husband, running the family home, and caring for my naturopathic clients in my part-time practice. My days were full and I wore ‘busy’ like a badge of honour. Keeping busy was a very easy way for me to avoid looking at my needs and the inner turmoil I was experiencing.

When a woman says ‘YES’ to herself and heals, her heart breaks open to radiate the most beautiful loving light, a light that becomes impossible to ignore. When a woman loves herself, she adds to the love in the world. When a woman cares for herself, she adds to the compassion and care that is in our world. It lights the way for her family to heal and live in love. It lights the way for communities to heal and live in love. It lights the way for the world to heal and live in love.

Ignoring the elephant in the room; that I had emotional stuff that I needed to deal with, was not only impacting my health and wellbeing. It was impacting my children, my husband, and my business. Behind closed doors, my world was falling apart. When I was anxious and overwhelmed I would explode like a volcano of anger. I would yell and scream and become the tyrant mother. I picked fights with my husband. I avoided catching up with friends and my clients were not getting the best of me. I stopped smiling at strangers and being my normal friendly self. My children were my catalyst for change. I grew up in a family where anger was the most common emotion we saw. It was time to break the cycle. I wanted my kids to have a different experience growing up. I wanted to be a role model for my children. To show them that their emotions and feelings matter, that when a person is struggling it is not a weakness to express that and get help. That people can heal and change is possible. And that change impacts those around you and ripples out to the world. Women are not only the heart and soul of their family. They are the 46

heart and souls of their communities, the heart and soul of our world. Women have the power to help our world rise up out of tragedy; out of uncertainty; out of fear. This power is activated when a woman values herself, cares for herself, and allows her heart to be fully open to the wonder of this life and love. When we give ourselves permission to care for and heal ourselves that healing extends out and ripples into the global community. When a woman heals, not only does she find a new place of inner peace, happiness, and joy. That inner peace, happiness, and joy ripples out into her family, her relationships, her business, her community. When we heal and care for ourselves, others feel the change in our vibration and see the changes within us. What’s so beautiful about this is our positive change often inspires others to take the steps to heal too. I’ve had many clients I’ve worked with over the years who share that they are seeing changes in their partners, and family members, purely because they took care of themselves, and healed. Energetically the healing starts to occur across the family.

Kim Herman "Kim Herman is a self worth, confidence and mindset coach, Intuitive guide and Certified Thrive Factor Profiler. She is passionate about helping women who are seeking that next level of healing to do the inner work, raise their vibration, and know themselves at a deeper level, so they can liv elife with more peace, flow, trust & joy. At age 37 she found herself completely burnt out and an emotional wreck. She could no longer push down the hurt and pain she had suppressed and it rose as anger. Her self-development and healing journey led her in many directions and she now uses the tools that helped her heal, to help other women overcome their past allowing them to create a life they love. No Choice, but an

opportunity

By Monica Alfing

IT WAS THE 7TH OF MARCH OF 2020, TIRED, EMOTIONAL, A BABY GIRL ON MY ARM THAT DIDN’T WANTED TO SLEEP WITHOUT A MUMMA AND A BOOB. AFTER MONTHS OF HAVING NO SLEEP, FRUSTRATIONS OFF NOT FEELING SUPPORTED, HOUSEWORK AND A JOB THAT WAS DRAINING THE LIFE OUT OF ME, HERE I WAS SITTING ON THE STAIRS CRYING, TOO TIRED TO EVEN GET UP..

T

his was definitely by far not the first time I wanted to quit, to stop it all. Since being a mum more than ever,… again since being a mum more than ever I knew this was too much, too much stress, pressure . But did I have a choice, No, not really. I am talking about my job, ladies. A job that I was in, because I needed to be in there, I was in this job because I was working for a visa to stay in the country. And I am the person that always and will still say, “you always have a choice”, well My choice was to live and make a new life in another country, and with that choicesacrifices needed to be made, work that we maybe would not like, a lot of money needed to be paid, cause you know ,..paperwork and visa’s cost money, building your life up from scratch, sacrifices to be made and we came here with just two bags and two suitcases, that was is. Just us, no family or support,.. but we made it all happen!! It was amazing and it was all meant to be for a long time…., Fast forward. 4 years later, we built our life on a beautiful spot in Australia, got our beautiful rainbow baby girl after years of pain and trying, we were happy… right?

amounts of stress, major postpartum problems, breastfeeding with constant blocked milk ducts and I can’t count the amounts of mastitis I had.. Going to the bathroom the first year was a living hell, I know, that long..? Yes ladies, unfortunate this happens more than we think.. Postpartum problems are very real…! But I had another one big stress factor on my side, a job that I resented to go back to,.. a job that was stressful, staff that walked away constantly because of a boss that was horrible to staff, and breathing down everybody’s neck 24/7 as he couldn’t let go of his micro management and yes I was the Manager of the Business. 4 years and this would have been my last year,.. but, o god,.. I have spoken out my frustrations so many times,

my cries for help to the universe , cried so many times, stressed and hurt, because of a job.. a job ladies!!! And let me tell you this, if a friend or client would come to me, with this story, I would say, ‘walk away’ And this is of course one tip, if you are in a job you hate or dislike and you dó have unlike me a choice to walk away then do!!! And we all know this next one,.. the first months going back to your job after becoming a mum is even harder right??? And yes, I asked the universe a lot for a solution… and well then,.. Covid hit.. and my life changed ! hahah, my husband is still joking that I did ask for a solution, well here it was.. But with that,.. We both lost our jobs, no income, and even to the point we needed help from the foodbank… Now, ladies, it is March 2021 a year later,.. And we are doing unbelievably good! We have 3 successful businesses, saved money on the bank, assets, and investments and we are working both from home and seeing our baby girl grow every day. What changed?? We got an opportunity!! And a little backstory here, our mindset was always on expansion and growth, back home I always worked for myself and owned 2 businesses and set up 4. Me and my husband since moving down to Australia were always in the mindset; “How can we make this even better, how can we grow ourselves even more..?” But because of our visa’s

Well yes, and no really.. Since becoming a mother my whole life changed, honestly I never knew it would be thís crazy..! I had such big MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

we couldn’t do a lot, we were sort of stuck, and needed to wait to live, sort of say, for me that was prison, cause I am a born entrepreneur, a social butterfly and always doing and creating my own thing... You put a butterfly in a box and no air of space to fly, she dies… And that’s how I felt, my sparkle, my light was gone, I never have felt anything like it in my life..! So when Covid hit, and we lost a lot, yes… BUT, and this is a big one… we also gained, and we gained a much, much bigger thing then we lost.. and that was freedom!! Freedom to do whatever we wanted to do!!! And so we did.. With the money we saved throughout the years we both started an education, we both started a study, yes, with no income and little money for food, but we knew this was the bigger picture, invest now, and your return will be bigger… So in less than 3 months (still in our studies), we both had our website up and running, started our business, and had our first clients.. My husband was a videographer and expanded his side hustle (back then) as a property manager to a much larger skilled business. For me, I could finally do and grow into my purpose I so longed for all these years.. The business that I had on the side, the passion I always worked on, on the side, and I can now proudly say that this is full time business! A Public Speaker, Writer and Holistic Health, Life and Business Coach for Women with my Business Her Amazonian Health and Sisterhood… But what I really like to call myself is a Goal achieving and Balance Coach. Cause I believe, I believe in the power of Believe, in the power of seeing yourself in your purpose, in your dream, manifesting, in visualizations And with all these amazing tools I work with, every day, with my clients and also for my own dreams and goals.. Cause we can all set goals and goal setting is something people love to do, right? But achieving is the next.. Cause I am telling you this personal story with a reason, as this was not the first time and will not be the last that I need to go over a hurdle and that there will be hardship, and that is not fun,.. No, but it is life… and with that I know how things feel, but I also know that whatever came on my path it never stopped me and my focus. 48

I am that coach that will invest and overdeliver and give more than paid for or suspected because I believe...! I believe in the Inner power, that inner Amazonian strength (as I like to call it) of all women. And my purpose is to create the ripple effect for the future of our kids. Cause if I can change a woman’s life, and we together work as a team to get her in balance, feeling great, feeling healthy, and mostly achieving whatever her goal is, big or small, there will be a light lit!! A light inside a woman’s heart that will go on forever, and she will teach others, and will teach her children, to be better, to do better, and so be kinder to the world... And so, as we are givers of life, we all need to protect our own life, our own light inside us, and never ever let is dim, as there are always opportunities, and there are always choices that you can make, for a better life, a more fulfilling life. Cause don’t we all want a better life for ourselves, our kids, mother earth and all her creatures...? And if so, with saying that, we also all need a cheerleader, a person that let our lights even shine brighter, and yes, I love to do this as a coach a, mentor, a speaker, but you can already do that with some people in your life, so as one of the biggest people ever said; “Surround yourself with positive people, and your life will start to look more positive” and also of course surround yourself with the people you look up to, inspire you, that you grow from, learn from…, these are the things that don’t cost any money, just you putting in some time and energy. And if you get anything out of this story, I hope it is, “That anything is possible as long as you see the possibilities and opportunities that life throws at you. And even if you don’t think you have a choice, as long if the possibility and dedication to your goal and vision is bigger than anything, the choice will be easily made...” With that as my last words of this article, if there are any questions about unlocking your Amazonian Strength or any Coaching or Support please reach out or become a part of the Her Amazonian Sisterhood group on Facebook. Look me up under Instagram under @ Monica_ coachforwomen as I love to connect with other strong and positive women! Be kind to the world, Monica

As all women have this strong force inside of themselves but because of negative self beliefs, bad health or trauma in their lives it fades away or never even had a change to blossom..and her mission in life is to give that balance, health and self love and most of all their self belief back, the strength to achieve their biggest and wildest dreams.. “Cause if a Woman is in balance, and has growth and love surrounding her she will have so much power to do whatever she wants.. and with that she will share her power, her health and will motivate others to do the same. And with that she will inspire and teach her children, as a woman is a creator and carrier of life she will continue to spread her knowledge and with that a better world is ahead for the future of our Children and Mother Earth” And with that Monica her mission is to make the ripple effect bigger with every woman she helps, life, health or as a businesscoach.

“Pleasurepreneur”

How Becoming a Lead to an Ecstatic Birth By Regan Figg

Photo by Olivia Calder & Serina Crinis

“I LEAD WITH PLEASURE” “I TRUST MY BODY TO GUIDE ME” “BABIES BRING ABUNDANCE” - SOME MANTRAS THAT EVOLVED AFTER I COACHED MYSELF THROUGH SOME LIMITING BELIEFS ABOUT BUSINESS, AFTER CONCEIVING OUR THIRD CHILD - WE WOULD HAVE 3 UNDER 5!

I

’d assumed that I’d have less time, less energy, less money to continue to build my business, serve my community and be remain a connected mum & wife.

I needed to give myself the same advice that I share with my clients - “What we focus on, we find evidence for” - A life of lack was not what I wanted to find myself in. I wanted it all to feel good, and activate abundance in all areas. I started by shifting my focus to pleasure, my limiting beliefs to expansive ones, and welcoming Imposter Syndrome. Instead of it being some kind of bearer of truth that I wasn’t good enough, I decided that Imposter Syndrome indicated I’m “on my way.” That I’m about to push past my edges, expand my current comfort zone, go deeper into my work and reach higher levels of growth.

One way to lead with pleasure was to commit to making business experiences sensual practices. MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

In order for me to lead with pleasure, I began fostering a stronger connection with my body, further knowing and operating from my feminine energy, accessing my intuition and connecting with nature. One way to lead with pleasure was to commit to making business experiences sensual practices. An evening to myself for work became a date with my business by candle light, with soft fabrics to sink into, beautiful stationary to explore my ideas, the smell of tea brewing - the warm cup in my hands as I consciously drank it in with my favourite tunes. I was creating the ideal environment and energetic state for light bulb moments, new approaches and opportunities to drop in. It all began to feel so magic and the shift in abundance felt immediate. What I hadn’t expected was for these practices to form ingredients for ecstatic birth. 50

By late pregnancy I hadn’t listened to the Hypnobirthing tracks, read the books I’d planned to read, and I missed the pre-natal yoga course I wanted to attend, but by making business pleasurable, it flowed into every area of my life and contributed to the most incredible birth experience. After I pulled my daughter out of the water and onto my chest at home, what I knew to be true was that I had created deep trust and connection with my body and my intuition. I could now surrender, receive and connect with my inner knowing - not constantly seeking external guidance and validation. I moved through life with feel-good-flow, and was creating more abundance than ever before - in business, in relationship with my husband, kids, clients, in my wellbeing and in the levels of pleasure I experience everyday. It gets to feel good AND build my business. Babies really do bring abundance!
