STRONGER THAN YOU THINK RESILIENCE IS HAVING THE ABILITY TO COPE WHEN THINGS GO WRONG, THEN BOUNCING BACK IN THE FACE OF ADVERSITY.
R
esilience is a funny thing. We don’t talk about it generally unless we have gone through something that has pushed us to our limits, and we haven’t crumbled or given up.
We also will never know how much we have until we are tested in trying times. Even then, it’s not easily measured as it’s something

that grows differently in different circumstances.
of the other, relying on their strength to continue evolving and growing.
Yet, I believe each woman in business has more resilience than she realises, as they have overcome or are navigating adversity. Women who have given it their best, regardless of their circumstances. Women who have tapped into inner reserves of strength they didn’t even know they had and yet, they put one foot in front
We can’t compare our plight to others as everyone is leading their own life with their own individual challenges. Case in point is our Cover Mumpreneur, Turia Pitt. Her resilience is beyond anything I could ever comprehend. Its depth is endless.
Whatever you do, don’t let self-doubt or limiting beliefs stop you. Isn’t that a great analogy for life and business? Sometimes, okay – most of the time, being in business feels like we are constantly running a marathon. We’re pushing ourselves beyond mindsets, skill sets and beliefs. However, we don’t give up. We embrace the challenge. We might pause, we might need to go within, heal, release and then pick ourselves back up and keep going. We know that what we have to share with the world is too important to stop and that we deserve to keep growing. Business is the best personal development teacher, and it’s not easy, yet it is so worth it. Don’t you agree?
Business is the best personal development teacher, and it’s not easy, yet it is so worth it.
So like the women within these pages, let’s keep putting one foot in front of the other. You might be tired, overwhelmed, stuck, or things aren’t going as you had planned. And you might think… F*&k this. A perfectly normal thought.
However it’s not like Turia puts a badge on and declares, “I am the most resilient person in the world!”.
these women are just as amazing for overcoming their own inner and outer demons, experiences and hardships.
Take a breath beautiful woman; take a moment to rest and refill your cup and just keep taking the next step.
Instead, she sees it as simply waking up each day, ripping in and not giving up on herself. There are no doubt times when she felt like giving up or actually did – for a moment – however her will to keep going, moving, living and growing outweighed anything else.
Just like you are!
Make sure you have the support you need, even before you need it. Whatever you do, don’t let self-doubt or limiting beliefs stop you. Take a step away from your life and look in as an observer without judgement or agenda and see what it is that you need right now.
Everyone’s story is unique and can’t be compared as you will see in the stories of the incredible women being showcased on this issue. Each of
For me, it’s like when I recently started running (Turia has inspired me to start: make sure to check out her Run Program!). I started pushing myself out of my comfort zone; even though I wanted to give up, I kept going, taking each step, giving it my all, even if I had to take a break to catch my breath. I got back up and kept going.
Even if it’s scary, like hiring a coach, marketing expert, website designer, just take the next step, whatever that is and know that you can do it! MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

epending on where you’re at with your healing journey, you would have gained valuable insight about yourself and learned from it.
Working closely with women for the last five years through coaching, mentoring, and teaching, I have seen hundreds upon hundreds of women who have grown and thrived from incredible life experiences. However, for whatever reason, they still doubt their worth, knowledge and experience. (See our last issue Imposter Syndrome for how other women have worked through this.) These incredible women weren’t able to see how resilient and courageous

they had been to become the truly inspirational people they are today. Instead, they dwelled on the negatives – what they hadn’t achieved or the pain they went through. Yet, as we worked together, they soon realise the value of their experiences, no matter how challenging. Her past helped shape her and made her wiser and stronger, with a passion for serving others.
from personal experience. How you felt in those moments and how you were able to bounce back and come back even stronger. There are 7.7 billion people in the world. Many are going through something similar to what you did and need the reassurance that they will get through it. They want to feel that they aren’t alone – as you most likely were.
No doubt you have to.
They want to know how to prevail and come out the other side which you know – intimately.
What you might not realise is how potent your knowledge and experience is. Your understanding of how to overcome certain situations
This is very likely the reason you created your own business. To share your story, your knowledge and to inspire.
These women are why I am so passionate about sharing women’s stories and expertise within the Mumpreneur Movement Magazine. There are women worldwide who are just starting with a dream in their heart and a vision of their future. Their vision is crystal-clear. It’s helping others and building a life they cherish for themselves and their families. Yet, for most, becoming a Mumpreneur is isolating and lonely. It can feel overwhelming and ridiculously hard. Plus, there are so many questions! What do I need to start? How do I grow my business? I also love helping women to curate their non-fiction books so they can positively impact others on a larger scale and mould their business to support their readers and other women who need their knowledge and guidance. Let me ask you this – how many real-life stories do you read every day? Think about it: social media platforms engage over 2 billion people, and millions of them are sharing a broad range of life experiences via their posts. These posts are being read by friends, family, clients and followers, impacting and influencing them positively or negatively. This is why Facebook has been so powerful and has become so popular – basic human connection. Yes, there are the inevitable drawbacks, but can you see the power of sharing your story and the positive effect it can have on another person? How many times have you been inspired by someone sharing their story? Just read Turia’s article in this issue or read one of her many books. Imagine if you could inspire someone to make changes within their life for the better? We all have a story to share and the ability to share it. We only have to awaken our inner storyteller and the belief in ourselves. Imagine if your story helped just one other person to overcome their adversity?

The Labyrinth: Where to Find Resilience? By Kylie Mort
Introduction at what the poem is about: Hello, I’m Kylie Mort and I support individuals to become their best selves. There are times in life where we all may feel a sense of overwhelm. Perhaps we are harried or struggling, perhaps we have overcommitted and
realised that we don’t actually have the resources or time to meet all our obligations. Perhaps, our mindset is not as positive as it could be at present, and due to this, everything just seems to be too much. I wrote this poem from experience. I wrote from feeling overwhelmed and needing to dig deep into my
own toolbox of resources to find the peace and spaciousness I needed to reframe. To reimagine, redesign and recreate my current state. We all have a toolbox, we just need to remember how to access it. And sometimes, it’s just about focus, finding that spaciousness inside that will give you the time and energy to rejuvenate. To call upon your own inner resilience.
The Labyrinth: Where to Find Resilience? Overwhelm. When your obligations are so all-encompassing you cannot see where to begin. When you know in your head you should just choose a direction, Turn a corner, Step onto a pathway Yet your heart is so heavy you simply stare vacantly at the myriad of options. An array of tunnels that disperse into darkness, And you remain fixated, Unable to move forward. When you have overcommitted to so much Sorting priorities is like decoding some vast and complex labyrinth, All options of equal magnitude, All of indistinguishable and perilous precedence, And the sheer weight of those commitments Those promises and resolutions, Bear down on you like a leaden shroud. And you are buckling under the weight, Unable to break free, A crushing execution of your own making. When the impossibility of your deadlines accumulate like the rocks of pressing penance, And you suffer under the gradual weight of failure. Internally running the numbers and calculating your fate Desperately seeking to justify and rearrange the days, The hours, The minutes, Shortening with every tortured laborious breath. 10
| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT
Stop! Do not forfeit your success to the jurisdiction of your mindset. Giving energy to overwhelm adds only to the burden Raise your voice and be accountable, Choose self-determination and the energy of progress, Choose a doorway… And lock it fast behind you. Secure yourself in this space seeing only the possibility of this moment In this endeavour, You have a finite and specific world, You are focused on this one path, You are capable in this one goal, You are proceeding in this one commitment, And this is all you need. In this moment, You are safe here, Block out the noise behind that door It will not open again until you do so. And as you work here you will create the energy you need to face your next journey… Eventually With achievement and accomplishment at your back, With satisfaction and success on your mind, You will step back into the labyrinth: Revived Rejuvenated Ready Resilient.

Fab launched her first book, D Fabulously Fighting in November of 2016, and just released the second edition, Fabulously Fighting Uncensored in October of 2020. Mumpreneur Movement: Why did you start a business? Dr. Fab: Most people say they chose their business, but I feel my business chose me. After my Breast Cancer diagnosis I wanted to feel in control. I wanted to feel I had the power over cancer. I knew knowledge was power so I started on my journey to gaining my PhD. 13 years, one class at a time to become a Naturopathic Doctor and take my healing to the next level. I saw first hand what was missing in our healthcare system and that was bridging the gap between Allopathic and Naturopathic healing methods. I want my patients to feel they are in control of their wellness. Whether it is cancer, autoimmune or just feeling better, you should feel you have the knowledge of what works for your body. ZenVeda Wellness is all about fueling and feeling your best self. Mumpreneur Movement: How has becoming a mum changed the way you do business? Dr. Fab: My daughter was a year old when I was diagnosed. Having a mum with cancer is all she knows, so it was very important to me that she saw how I turned my journey into a way to help others. I want to show my daughter that being a mum, a wife, and a successful entrepreneur can be achieved. Mumpreneur Movement: What are some of the challenges you have overcome since starting a business and having children?
12
| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT
Dr. Fab: Balance is always a challenge. You can become overwhelmed by daily challenges that occur with work, motherhood, and being the best version of yourself. It’s easy to lose sight of time management and not putting in enough time with your family. I have to prioritize not only family and work but myself as well. It all comes down to balance. Mumpreneur Movement: What helps you to manage life/ motherhood/business? Dr. Fab: The biggest lesson I have learned from other Mumpreneur’s is task lists. I schedule out my day to include work, motherhood, family time, and me time. First thing in the morning and the last thing before I go to bed is a half hour of me time. Reading a book, making a list for the next day or meditating. You can’t pour from an empty cup and if you don’t prioritize you, things will never change or get done. Mumpreneur Movement: How have you been able to grow your business to what it is today?
Dr. Fab: Social media had been a huge help in the growth of my business. But old fashion word of mouth is the meat and potatoes of growth for my business. There is nothing like an amazing referral.
only do I get to recharge my mind but I also engage my body and practice what I preach. It’s easy to get lost within the chaos of life and work so realigning myself is a way of honoring myself.
Mumpreneur Movement: What is your favourite part of being a mum and business owner?
Mumpreneur Movement: What are your goals for the next 3 years?
Dr. Fab: I love that my daughter gets to be a part of learning the balance of work and life. She gets to see what it takes to run a business and a household. She sees a powerful woman who turned tragedy into triumph. Turning a passion into a way to help others. Mumpreneur Movement: What is your favourite way to recharge away from work and family? Dr. Fab: My favorite way to recharge is a walk along the beach, a pilates class or a mediation workshop. Not
Dr. Fab: I have so many goals but the first is to launch my ZenVeda Wellness Line Nation wide. I am also looking to launch a TedX talk and seminars. But I would be remiss to not mention a much need vacation is on the horizon. Mumpreneur Movement: What is a piece of advice that you have been given that has served you well in life, love or business? Dr. Fab: The best piece of advice I ever received was at my first oncology appointment from a complete stranger. She said, “My darling 99% of your fight will be your mental fight.” I have taken those words with me everyday and learned to live in moment to moment joy. Never taking for granted to the amazing capacity we hold for greatness. Greatness in life, work and love. Mumpreneur Movement: Thank you for sharing your time and wisdom with us. You’re amazing!
I have to prioritize not only family and work but myself as well. It all comes down to balance. MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

Yo u Hold The
Power
By Dr. Fabianna Marie
RECENTLY I WAS LOOKING THROUGH OLD PHOTOS OF WHEN I FIRST STARTED MY JOURNEY WITH BREAST CANCER. IT WAS HARD TO LOOK AT THE SHELL OF A WOMAN TRYING TO HOLD IT ALL TOGETHER.
B
attling not only my cancer diagnosis but my self-loathing thoughts, I felt unworthy of healing and standing in my own power. One day I was a twenty-seven year old mother and wife, the next day I had a new identity. Cancer Patient. I let those two words provoke a cyclone of mental destruction.
I sat for a while with those thoughts and photos and let the overwhelming gratitude of how far I have come wash over me. Back then I had no idea the power and resilience I possessed. As I was writing this article I thought about the human capacity for overcoming obstacles. As I sat and contemplated about the world we are living in and the things that have kept me going through unprecedented times. Resilience is the word that keeps flashing like a neon sign. Resilience is a fascinating term. It is compelling because it is universal. It crosses all human boundaries; age, race, gender, ethnicity, political, and religions persuasions. But what makes a resilient person? How do we become resilient? Adversity doesn’t discriminate. This isn’t new information, no one goes through life unscathed of obstacles. They do say obstacles teach us the greatest life lessons, but if I am being a realist, unless we are willing to recognize what 14
| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT
these obstacles are teaching us, we are doomed to repeat them. The same can be said for resiliency. The sun will rise and set regardless. What we choose to do with the light is up to us. I recognize that some days we feel we are giving life all we have and yet, somedays it feels as if it’s not enough. 15 years of battling an autoimmune disease, breast cancer and anxietytrust me when I say I know how it feels to cry in the shower so no one can hear. I know the pain of hurting so bad you just want it to end, physically and emotionally. I know how it feels to fall to pieces. I also know that I am stronger than the pain. I know that if I’ve made it this far I can make it through more struggling days. I know that my life matters. When I look at the big picture of life I choose to be an active participant in my grief. I know that suffering is part of life. I don’t diminish the negativity but I do harness the power of good. Maybe that is my definition of resilience, knowing that each day we conquer through the obstacles makes us another day stronger. You can be changed by what happens to you, but hold your head high and never be reduced by it. Lead your most fabulous life, YOU hold the power.

RESILIENCE, VULNERABILITY & CREATIVE EXPRESSION By Taryn Gaudin HAVING JUST WRITTEN, SELF-PUBLISHED AND RELEASED MY FIRST BOOK ‘BODY CONSCIOUS: A WOMAN’S GUIDE TO HOLISTIC PELVIC HEALTH AND FEMININE EMBODIMENT’ I KNOW HOW RESILIENT A WOMAN NEEDS TO BE TO MOVE THROUGH THE DISCOMFORT AND VULNERABILITY OF SHARING HER HEARTS WORK.
T
he writing process itself is full of moments of self-doubt – wondering if this work is valuable, will anyone even read this?, and if they do what will they think of it? Within the pages of Body Conscious I share on topics that are often considered too delicate to talk about – like sexuality, intimacy, pelvic health and femininity. Sharing this book feels raw and exposed. So how do I move past that so that I can share this creative expression with the world?
16
| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT
These are my practices:
1
Connect back to my why: Sharing conversations about women’s health, in particular opening dialogue around topics that are often considered taboo, so that women can feel whole and connected to their body is my why. When I connect to my why, the vulnerability doesn’t dissipate – but it feels so worth it.
2
Know I am not responsible for how my work is received: I approach my work with full integrity. I want to offer valuable, accurate, and authentic information. Knowing my work is integrity filled I take comfort in also knowing that it is not for me to decide whether someone will like my book, dislike it, or feel indifferent. That is for each woman to decide for herself.
3
Creativity is a process – there is no end. I remind myself my book doesn’t need to be perfect to be of value. In fact, it will never be perfect. Creativity is an evolution, a never ending process. It will never be complete. In sharing my book, more clarity will evolve, and in time I will share that evolved version of my work.
4
Connect to my vision more intimately: When I imagine how I want to share my book, I remind myself that I am sharing with one woman. Contemplating sharing with the entire word feels overwhelming, and makes me feel hesitant in putting it out there. When I connect to my vision of sharing with one woman, imagining her reading this book in the comfort of her own home, cozied up with a cuppa, reflecting and journaling her thoughts – I feel reassured that I can do this.
Sharing our voice can feel scary. But when we remember what holds value for us, and remind ourselves that our work is important and needed, we can move past that fear and share with a sense of strength, resilience and authenticity. Be brave, trust yourself and share your voice resiliently, the world needs to hear it.

Childhood Trauma:
How Resilience Is Built By Caroline Bellenger ONE OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES FOR ME WHEN DESCRIBING MY EXPERIENCE OF CHILDHOOD SEXUAL ABUSE IS TO DESCRIBE WHO I AM NOW.
A
lthough I spent over 20 years blaming myself for what happened, I can absolutely understand now that I was a Victim of these circumstances. After years of personal growth, I no longer consider myself a victim of anything. The term Survivor is what society mostly uses to describe those who experience child sexual abuse. And for most of my life, this is the terminology I used. However, I never felt comfortable with it. The general meaning of survivor is someone who has overcome difficulties or
death and then carried on with life. I did not just carry on with life when I healed from childhood sexual abuse trauma, I built resilience and I thrived. One of my first steps when healing from childhood trauma was to recognise fully what impact that experience had on me from the lens of a child. It was on becoming an adult that I understood that as a child with limited life skills, knowledge, or authority I was in no way responsible for the circumstances and trauma I endured. In fact, from the perspective of an adult, I could acknowledge the resilience and courage it took for me as a child to navigate my way through this 8-year period. Like most victims, I faced this in silence and alone. It would take another 20 years of addiction and depression before I ultimately healed from this childhood trauma. Much of my resilience was built throughout this time. You see many people consider you build resilience during the easy times when you get support, practice self-love, and put in place strategies to deal with unwanted trauma. The truth is for me, my most profound resilience has come from facing my greatest challenges and surviving them. And when I say survive, I mean literally crawling from my deepest darkest places of despair. I share this because I want women out there to understand that while life after childhood trauma
18
| MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT
can be challenging, emotional, and overwhelming it is these same experiences that can give you the greatest growth and the most enduring resilience. Always remember that you do not have to be in a perfect place with everything under control to start developing resilience. Instead, as you push through each, and every, one of life’s challenges understand that you are building resilience along the way.
Always remember that you do not have to be in a perfect place with everything under control to start developing resilience.
So back to my original question, what do I use to define myself now after experiencing childhood sexual abuse trauma? I would say Resilience Warrior would be the best description.

Such is her positivity, drive and passion to live the best possible life and be the best possible mum. Mumpreneur caught up with the mother of two for a chat, which provided some fascinating insights into being a mum in biz. Turia’s story is an incredible one that makes anyone wallowing in self-pity get off their butt and start taking action. In 2011, Turia took part in an ultramarathon in Western Australia and was caught in a fierce grassfire. It was a horrific ordeal – she suffered burns to 65% of her body. Doctors weren’t optimistic about her chances of survival. She spent 6 months in hospital and was told she’d never run again. With all due respect, doctors – what would they know? Turia had other plans. First, recovery. She endured 2 years in a compression suit and over 200 surgeries.

These include goal achieving courses which have inspired over 40,000 fans (and counting) and now helping mothers build confidence and resilience with her new RUN with Turia program. https://www.turiapitt.com/run/ “I wanted a space where other people understand that being a mum always comes first but you also want to do really amazing things for yourself.” RUN with Turia caters to all women no matter what their running experience and comes with nutrition and pelvic floor experts, plus running coaches. Most of all she says, “It’s a community of women who are all in there – no BS, all going after what they want. Some of them have never run before and they’ve just finished a 5km run. It’s pretty amazing.”
This is what drives Turia – the immense satisfaction that comes from helping women to set and achieve goals. “Anything we want for ourselves is possible. All we need to do is set aside a bit of time every day to work towards our goals.” Set aside time for ourselves? Every day? Massive guilt trip alert! But Turia sees it as a must. In fact, we can become better mothers with regular me-time. She states that “Time out can make us feel guilty. But taking an hour or 30 minutes of your day to do something just for me makes me a better parent and better mum. I’ve got more energy so I’m more playful. I’m a better mum, better boss and better partner.” Time out makes us better mums? Sign me up now. It makes a lot of sense. But how does she remain resilient?

“Just keep showing up,” she advises. “Whether it’s a meeting, interview or product launch, even if I’m not sure how it’ll go, just show up. Put it to the side, be in the present.” Turia is a huge advocate of being in the present. “I probably spend a little too much time in the future. I think that’s good, that’s how we get a lot of stuff done, but I also think there’s a bit of magic in being able to stay in the present. To be able to savor and relish it. That’s ultimately a lot of our aims. Being present with family, being a great mum and having a really successful business.” “The only time I’m really like that is when I’m out bushwalking with my kids – without my phone,” Turia says. “That’s why I love exercise – when you’re doing something with your body it allows you to stay present.” It makes sense and thousands of women are responding. Note – that was quality time without her phone. Exercise yes, phone, less. But I can stay in the present with my phone, I’m only checking Instagram stories…Actually, no. Turia is a big believer in finding a balance with social media. For the mumpreneur, it has its obvious plusses.
“It’s a really valuable tool for business but you’ve just got to be conscious of the implications it has on your own health.”
thing I can do today that’s going to make today good?” recommends Turia.
“In fact, first thing in the morning, don’t look at your phone.”
This mindset has allowed Turia to stay focused and to successfully grow her business.
Whaaaatttt? That’s crazy talk, I hear you cry.
She has two key pieces of advice for the mumpreneurs out there.
“Wake up and think about what it is you want from your day. What’s one
No matter how creative you are, “Have a plan, even a one-page document. Make sure you know the ins and outs of the business financials.” Personality goes a long way. “Don’t be afraid to inject a bit of personality into whatever it is that you’re selling because people love stories. They respond to you being vulnerable and authentic. Just show up!” So take it from Turia and show up peeps, it really is that easy!

Boosting Resilience
at Work By Nyree Johnson
RESILIENCE MAY BE THE CURRENT BUZZ WORD, BUT IT JUST MEANS THAT IT’S GETTING ITS 15 MINUTES OF FAME. RESILIENCE AT WORK HAS ALWAYS BEEN A NECESSITY.
W
ork can be challenging, it can be tedious, and it can be downright depressing at times. But your ability to bounce back when these moments come along is critical to your career success and fulfilment. At the end of the day, if you’re dreadfully unhappy in a workplace, leave and find something else. Don’t be defined by your job or be afraid to try something new. You’re not a slave to your income. JOB = Just Over Broke. To ensure you’re always rearing to go and ready to do your best work, having a toolkit of resilience and strategies up your sleeve will ensure you handle yourself with confidence and ease. After all, you may not be able to control what is happening around you, but you can certainly control your reaction to it.
Don’t be defined by your job or be afraid to try something new.
Resilience is not something you can develop overnight. It takes consistent effort and awareness to build your resilience so that when you take a ‘hit’, you can work through the impact and bounce back quicker and stronger than before. MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

One way of looking at resilience in the modern day is ‘advancing despite adversity’. Put simply, working towards your vision, being proactive and not waiting for adversity while tackling both large and small everyday challenges. It’s critical to work on your resilience when you’re good so that when something challenging pops up, you’re prepared. It might be the Scout Leader in me, but preparation is essential, always. The reason why resilience is essential is that it helps you to see challenges as opportunities. It drives you to commit and achieve goals. It reminds you to focus on what you can control and not blame others. And the added bonus and my personal favourite… it encourages positive thinking. To find out where you are on the resilience matrix, take a look at this free quiz: https://www.mindtools. com/pages/article/resilience-quiz. htm Self-awareness and emotional intelligence are crucial to know where you’re at to enhance your capabilities.
Some tweaks you can make to your day to day work life to build your resilience are: • Build positive relationships with those you work with. You don’t need to share your life story but participate in small talk, get to know those you work with, and gain insight into who your colleagues are. • Treat problems as a learning opportunity. Make a habit of catching yourself out when you’re in a negative mindset and turn it around. What did you learn from this situation? What can you do differently next time this happens? • Speak positively to yourself. Stamp out negative self-talk and recognise the fantastic person that you are. You are unique, and so are your talents and skills. Acknowledge that and celebrate your successes, even if it feels odd at first. • Keep a realistic perspective and think about the context of a particular challenge in the broader atmosphere of lifelong personal development and growth.
Always remember that you are amazing, and you are enough!

I always believed that the people sent our way are catalysts for change. Inadvertently, we may also be catalysts for others. She made me realise the importance of one’s voice, the purpose of your experiences, your loss as well as your celebrations. She gave me the opportunity to brush up on my skills, discover new ones I never thought I had, and fall in love with this new community of women supporting other women. She’s so easy to talk with, she knows what she wants but she also knows how to listen. She also showed how much she cares about her employees’ well-being. Sometimes I question myself what I did to deserve such a wonderful client, friend, and mentor; a sister that I never had. She is also a mum who went through a lot. She loves her family so much and she would do everything for them. She’s a giver. She’s one of the most selfless people I know! Everything else she does impacts the world and people around her without her even knowing it. Well, now she does!
Compared to my previous employment with other amazing magazines where I had the same position but I felt so alone, working with Tammie and on the Mumpreneur Movement, I felt appreciated, celebrated, and supported in so many ways. I wouldn’t have started pursuing to be better, even writing my thoughts down if she didn’t help me believe that I could. “All it takes is one person to believe in you, and that should be you.” She knew I needed that sweet nudge from her. Tammie, along with other empowered women in every magazine issue we’ve created made me realise that beauty is not who you are on the outside, it is the wisdom and time you gave away to save another struggling soul like you. You will never find a contributor who mentioned quitting. We all moved forward fearlessly despite our history. Tammie, with her goals for Mumpreneur Movement Magazine, helped me fulfill mine; to support more women in business and find a community of women promoting positive change - to build resilience and equity on a global scale.

Fear
Overcoming
False Experiences Appearing Real
by Elena Domazet
FEAR CAN BE PERCEIVED AS A FORM OF PROTECTION FROM DANGER – THE FIGHT, FLIGHT OR FREEZE MODES ARE USEFUL IF/WHEN YOU ARE IN PHYSICAL DANGER.
P
rimal fear is one of the most basic human instincts and it is used to help indicate any real danger or threat and we act on this instinct if/when necessary. This form of fear is the foundation our brains have been conditioned to maintain for thousands of years. This basic fear is not supposed to linger around for long, as it should end as soon as you feel safe from whatever you deemed to be dangerous. Primal fear is also a conditioning behaviour in animals as they use fight or flight mode against a threat of another animal or human. However as soon as the threatened animal is safe from any form of harm, they go back to their original state of calm and peace and continue doing what they were previously doing before the threat showed up. This unfortunately is not what happens to humans. We have let fear rule our every moment, every moment of our lives! And why? Because we have something called a conscious mind, which is something animals do not have.
The role of the conscious mind is to think, feel and analyse your environment, encounters and experiences. MUMPRENEUR MOVEMENT |

The role of the conscious mind is to think, feel and analyse your environment, encounters and experiences. Therefore, often giving meaning to people, places and experiences that creates an unhealthy attachment if not properly processed. This is where the fear resides – in the attachment to past events that caused heartache, pain, depression and anxiety. So the question then becomes, how do we overcome fear? Well let’s first look at the acronym of fear - there are many out there, but my personal favourite is:
False, Experiences, Appearing, Real. We have this incredible ability to create false stories to validate the fear we feel within relative to past trauma/pain we’ve encountered. This is the most disempowering space to be in and in order to start overcoming fear, you can start with doing these simple and profound steps:
1
Acknowledge your fear and Thank it!
As I mentioned earlier, fear can be perceived as a form of protection from “danger” so the first step is to just notice your fear coming up. When you have become aware of your fear then you must thank it for “trying” to protect you. It doesn’t know any better than how it’s been conditioned and what the brain has been told to perceive based on past experiences. So acknowledge it and thank it.
2
Scale of 1-10 measurement
The good old “on a scale of 1 to 10 and 10 being absolute danger” – measure your fear based on this scale. This allows for your logical mind to kick in and thus take control of your mindset. The more times you practice using your logical mind to decipher whether you’re in real danger or not, the more you train your brain to come from a place of logic instead of fear.

The use of your breath to control fear is extremely underrated! Focus on your breath by making yourself aware to consciously inhale and exhale as many times as you need to bring yourself to the present moment of the here and now. Anxiety and consciously breathing cannot coexist in the moment of here and now. Therefore, the key to overcoming fear is absolute PRESENCE! All three of the above steps work profoundly together as well as siloed, depending on the severity of the fear you are experiencing. And remember with each step it must be practiced often/daily in order to retrain thousands of years

Building resilience through supportive relationships in conscious business By Emily Rose, Bright Yoga Space IT'S MARCH 2020 IN BRIGHT, REGIONAL VICTORIA. WE HAD JUST EMERGED FROM THE JANUARY BUSHFIRES AND RECEIVED THE NEWS THAT VICTORIA WAS GOING INTO LOCKDOWN NUMBER 1 DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.

the words of power are spoken and life changes. Just like that.
All of that ground to a halt in a moment.
In that period of unravelling, of stopping and of listening, we had a choice:
You may know the feeling for yourself. In one precious moment, the time it takes to inhale and exhale,
As Yoga and Meditation teachers, this is what we practice for. We know that life is impermanent. That everything we build up can be swept away and then rebuilt in another way in the next moment. Life cycles.
• To sit and ride out the lockdown, to retreat and hopefully to emerge
again later and continue as we were. • To keep offering our classes in our individual ways in the online space, knowing that we would be offering similar things to similar people, or • To join together in partnership, to bring our strengths together in balance and for greater impact and to create something new out of this mess that could really be of service to both our community and us. Through our practice we learn to find the place within us that is unchanging. That centre that whispers wisdom to us. That part of us that we need to slow down to listen deeply to. That deep wisdom is something that is within all of us, yet often it needs to be brought out by those around us, through our relationships. We chose the last option and formed a business partnership. Bright Yoga Space was born. Joining together in business as friends and colleagues is a big step yet it naturally evolved out of our combined ideas and vision. Rather than isolating ourselves even more at a time when we were being forced to do that through lockdown, we chose to support each other to adapt and evolve into something that was larger than the sum of its parts.
As two Mums with young children we can be burned out juggling all of the things. By working together we have been able to: • Share the load of administration, development, creativity and delivery of our services • Inspire each other to grow as teachers and practitioners • Check in regularly with each other and offer emotional and energetic support when needed • Keep each other accountable for things like rest, self-care and study as well as efficiency and task completion When you are a Mumpreneur biz-life can be all-consuming, isolating and unravelling. Supportive relationships are so key to sustainability and resilience. What a bonus when that support can come from within the business itself.
Emily Rose and Kylie Bertuch Haynes We are Emily & Kylie and together, we are Bright Yoga Space! This collective was created in 2020 by us as a space to offer authentic Yoga, Meditation and Sacred Connection to our community online at a time when we could no longer be together in person. We have over a decade of teaching experience between us including Yoga, Breath-work, Meditation and Women’s Circles as well as immersive experiences, workshops and retreats. We offer our community a space to safely yet powerfully build their capacity for awareness and connection. Our teachings are deeply rooted in Tantrik Hatha Yoga traditions, incorporating movement, breath, mantra and mythology into our classes. We are passionate about offering Yoga inclusively to anyone that is open to learning these techniques and offer the teachings of these ancient wisdom traditions with the deepest honour and respect. We both also love to include essential oils, sharing circles, sound and ritual from our own ancestral traditions to create a deep and powerful experience of personal exploration. We have lovingly collaborated on this creation together as Mums, business partners, teachers, students, women and activists for positive change in the world.

WIKIPEDIA: ‘RESILIENT’ MEANS A PERSON (OR ANIMAL) THAT IS ABLE TO WITHSTAND OR RECOVER QUICKLY FROM DIFFICULT CONDITIONS.
I
think many words and the stories we tell, we tell before we even know what they exactly mean, they mostly come from our past and/or what we saw, heard, or learned.
Thinking about resilience, I think about my mum. Even though all the sad and difficult things that happened in her world, she always came back. And maybe with some scars here and there, but never a tear in the world she would show to others. She held her head up high and walked past, like an Amazone that just came from a massive fight. Although I am freaking proud of her, being resilient is not always a good thing. Thinking of my childhood, my life, the women in my life, they were all resilient. heroes to me! I lived my life with these amazingly strong women around me, and here I was, a young girl with a sweet kind heart. I never wanted to play in the dirt like my sisters. Instead, I wore a dress and I was taking care of my stuffed, as well as real (stray) animals. I was craving for hugs, wanted to give love, create kindness. It took me 12 years to get the courage to write in a letter that I loved my mum. It took her 5 years to say it back, just before I left on a plane to Canada. haha Being a young widow with 3 daughters you need to provide, work and be an example. For her, love was providing food on the table, education, and clean clothes to wear.
Although I am freaking proud of her, being resilient is not always a good thing. 34

And so that sweet girl that was craving for connection, touch, and love, became resilient. Many things in her life happened hard, tough & sad things. Life, we called it. You work hard and you fight and you fall,.. but you get up. Yes, I was taught when I was young, “dust yourself off and get up..!” No matter what, don’t show pain and or tears. And so in my teens, and most of my adult life, I didn’t cry anymore and every time I fell,..? I got up straight away. Not thinking about taking some time off, or being kinder to myself or my body. I was this tough, Superchick, that could do it all.. right? Well, here I am today, 36 years old and sharing some hardship. But here I am knowing who I am now, still tough and resilient but also way kinder to myself, and, also more than ever I tell my mum that I love her - she still finds it awkward, haha Ladies, we have so much resilience! But also, don’t forget to take off that backpack sometime, and let your guards down, because being resilient is something you can be proud of even if that means that instead of the dark, you sometimes just need to cry when all eyes are on you. Because I know now, that showing your tears can be as tough as not saying anything at all.
Monica is a Goal achiever and Balance Coach for Women. Her vision is to empower women in their life and to get their inner strength and Health back like Monica likes to call it, Her Amazonian Strength. As all women have this strong force inside of themselves but because of negative self-beliefs, bad health, or trauma in their lives it fades away or never even had a chance to blossom..and her mission in life is to give that balance, health, and self-love and most of all their self-belief back, the strength to achieve their biggest and wildest dreams. “Cause if a Woman is in balance, and has growth and love surrounding her she will have so much power to do whatever she wants.. and with that, she will share her power, her health and will motivate others to do the same. And with that, she will inspire and teach her children, as a woman is a creator and carrier of life she will continue to spread her knowledge and with that, a better world is ahead for the future of our children and Mother Earth” And with that Monica, her mission is to make the ripple effect bigger with every woman she helps, life, health, or as a business coach.

Pearl: It definitely was not because I love cleaning, in fact I hated it! This desire originated from being disillusioned by a few incidences I witnessed in my corporate career as a private banker in Singapore. The last straw was when 911 happened. It was a massive wake-up call for me as I imagined all the lives lost in the buildings that look exactly like mine. I asked my 29-year-old self then, would I be happy with the life I led if a plane came through the window that morning? The answer was a resounding no. I didn’t know what it would look like then, but I felt that my purpose was for something bigger than being a corporate slave, adding more millions to a bank’s bottom-line. 2020 started losing over $90k worth of our cleaning products’ stock due to a dodgy contract manufacturer. Not long after, COVID hit, wiping out the little remaining stock I had left. And supply chain disruptions meant I couldn’t secure any packaging supplies. This setback nearly broke the business and emotionally, on a personal level, it almost broke me too! The temptation to give up was powerful as I had just become a new mum to a beautiful boy. It would’ve been easy to simply throw in the towel and focus on bringing up my only child, but this beautiful boy was also the reason why I chose to pivot. It made me more determined than ever to do what is within my power to secure a cleaner future for him. I already had in-depth knowledge on the damaging impact of plastic on our health and our planet, as a mum, I simply couldn’t not do anything about it. Eventually, I found the strength to pivot with determination like never before. I took the insane path of selling our family home in Melbourne to fund an innovation that would make possible my vision of a future with less plastic in it. After a gruelling 12 months marred by countless delays and obstacles (thanks COVID!), Resparkle has finally relaunched our home care range in the form of powder-based concentrates that turn regular tap water into cleaning supplies in minutes. When juggling business calls, emails and endless to do lists, I’ve had to put my poor boy on cartoon binges and sometimes feeding him tons of teddy biscuits just so I can keep him quiet whilst I’m being interviewed on a podcast! But overall, I’m thankful he has been such an easy and happy child, eating and sleeping well (so I too can get my much-needed rest!). Personally, I use google tasks and google calender as an extension of my brain which is operating past full capacity. My advice to getting organised? Keep it simple! Mumpreneur Movement: Who has been your biggest influence in being a woman, mother and businesswoman? Pearl: My father. A lot of my work ethics, drive to excel and resilience came from him. As a child, whenever I did badly in a school exam (we had exams from 6 years in Singapore!), he would very gently ask me this very simple question: “Is this the best you can do?” “If your answer is yes, then I’m happy. But if your answer is no, how can you do better?” These questions have seen me through every tough situation in my life whether as a businesswoman, a woman and a mother. Mumpreneur Movement: What is your favourite part of being a mum and business owner? Pearl: That my son is my biggest inspiration and motivation to make this business a success.
Every Resparkle win is a win for the earth he will inherit. We’ve done so much damaged to our planet and I’d like to think I’ve done my part to help repair some of that. Mumpreneur Movement: So many women in business have struggled over the last year with COVID-19 what advice do you have for them? Pearl: When written in Chinese, the word “Crisis” is composed of 2 characters; one represents “Danger” and the other “Opportunity”. Growing up, I’ve always been taught - In every crisis, there is an opportunity. Finding opportunity in trying situations is precisely what this crisis did for me - it allowed me to re-evaluate my business on a clean slate. I was forced with a difficult, but at the same time ‘easy’ choice. I could either let this difficulty spell the death of my business or 2. Pivot and re-birth this business. I chose option 2. Mumpreneur Movement: What is your favourite way to recharge away from work and family? Twice a week I’ll squeeze in a 45 minute workout session. The day ends with lounging in front of the telly until I can no longer keep my eyes open! Mumpreneur Movement: What are your goals for the next 3 years?
Pearl: We’ve set an ambitious goal to save 2 million pieces of plastic from a) being produced in the first place and b) going into landfill. With that, we are going to plant a total of 300,000 trees in Australia’s fire-ravaged bushland. The bushfires have left their mark on our precious land, and we want to do our bit to replenish it. By eliminating plastic waste from our cleaning routine, and in other areas of our lives, we can also do our part in minimising and hopefully reversing climate change. Mumpreneur Movement: What is your #1 fear in life/motherhood/ business? Pearl: Falling sick. Good health is prerequisite to anything in life. Mumpreneur Movement: How have you been able to overcome your own and others limiting beliefs of what you are capable of? Pearl: I’ve always been a control freak and always had a desired goal in mind. When things don’t go the way I want it, I will question my abilities, cause me a lot of anxiety or I’d get very frustrated. This emotional state took a toll on my mental health. Through mediation, I’ve learned how to surrender the outcome and trust that things will happen in my best interest and in its own time. By surrendering, I realised it was not about giving up. But about trying the best you can and have faith that you will end up where you need to be. Mumpreneur Movement: What is a piece of advice that you have been given that has served you well in life, love or business? Pearl: Life is short, never stop having fun! When you’re joyful and happy, you naturally attract and create the life you want. Think about it, when you’re having a good day, you feel like you’re capable of anything. When you make it a point to have fun, you can have many good days! We often take things too seriously and that can be slippery slope into a vicious cycle of defeatism/negativity. I too am guilty of this so I make it
a point to do things that make me happy. It could be dancing with my son in our Pjs or a simple glass of wine with a good book. Mumpreneur Movement: What do you love most about being an author/ (whatever is your main profession/career)? Pearl: That I wake up every day with a purpose bigger than myself and knowing that I’m making a difference. Mumpreneur Movement: What is a must have that’s in your life right now? Pearl: Sadly, it’s my laptop. I’ve become a slave to it. Mumpreneur Movement: Is there anything else that you would like to share? Pearl: We are fortunate to live in a time where there is an abundance of better-for-you, better-for-planet alternatives to almost everything. A simple google research would usually yield more eco-friendly/ healthier choices. If you feel overwhelmed, take it one step, one choice at a time. If you would like to be guided on this journey, head over to www. itonlytakesaminute.com. It is an initiative I started that offers simple practical steps you can take to make small but impactful changes. Mumpreneur Movement: Is there anything you would like to offer our audience/community? Pearl: If you are looking to reduce your plastic waste and carbon footprint, there is no better place to start than in your home. Cleaning products is one of the biggest contributors to plastic waste in your home. Not to mention, the nasty chemicals found in them are not great for your health or the fishes in the ocean. Resparkle’s plastic-free refill sachets and reusable silicon-protected glass can dramatically eliminate your plastic waste at home. Enjoy $10 off any of our bundles with code Mumpreneur$10

uggling family life and business can be very tough, to say the least. It adds up with comparing yourself with “more successful women on Instagram” out there: How do they do it? How do they manage to feel so good? It is
overwhelming and being mothers and entrepreneurs ourselves, we have been there just like many of you and still are. But resilience is not a trait, it is not something you are born with; it is something you are learning as you go, we’ve distilled essential tips on how to become more resilient.
1
First, acknowledge that your struggle is valid, no matter how small it could seem Don’t be ashamed of the stress you are going through, stress triggers seem to lay up.
2
Build positive beliefs in your abilities
Remind yourself of your strengths and accomplishments, make a list of times when you dealt with stress successfully. Self- confidence is a great tool to combat stress.
3
Accept the things you cannot change
You have to accept the fact that changing difficult situations is not always possible, do not blame yourself, accept the reality and head to the next point.

4
Establish goals to fix the problem
Simply waiting for a problem to go away on its own only prolongs the crisis. Instead, start working on resolving the issue. Set small but realistic goals on how to improve the situation. It may not be solved overnight, but every problem can be approached somehow or see point 3.
5
Self-love practices are my favorite.
Self-love helps combat stress. But what is self-love? Is it something you can obtain through a beauty makeover or a new set of clothes? One might argue with me but it can be anything that makes you happy is self-love – little meditation, long walk or maybe movie night. Sometimes you need to step back today to have the strength to battle tomorrow.
6
Ask for help!
Mothers tend to put the needs of everyone else first while placing our needs last. Many mothers plan their lives around children starting from early morning, then squeezing the business deals in between and finishing off with supervision of their homework and managing household duties. Sounds like a lot of stress, don’t you think? Ask for help or do less, no need to carry it all by yourself.
7
Stay hydrated
Sip water throughout the day—this helps to keep you hydrated and helps your body be better prepared for the possible stress.
8
Find you favorite way to take a mental break
Try breathing exercises to fight anxiety or may dance or sing for relaxation as none is watching. Don’t be shy, do it for yourself, mommies! Self-care is an investment in your internal well-being, with amazing external pay-offs!

Discovering True
Resilience By Sue Prentice
THE CAR DOOR FLEW OPEN, LIGHTS WERE FLASHING EVERYWHERE, THREE CARS, FOUR FRIENDS, GONE IN AN INSTANT. KNEELING ON THE ROAD, RIPPED TIGHTS, PRAYING, REELING TO ACCEPT ANOTHER ONE OF LIFE’S BLOWS.

lashback to five years old at boarding school. A siren would sound and onto the field this girl would trek along with a few hundred boys and girls, all under 12 years old, wrapped in a standard government issue brown blanket. It was bomb-scare practise, a part of school life. Before the internet and before mobiles were available, this girl lived on a farm, her country was at war. One day aged seven, she found herself alone at home at her sandbag clad farmhouse, surrounded by a six-foot security fence offering a false sense of security. As it began to get dark, she nervously ran to lock the farmgate, her rifle in her hand, soon after she slid into a dark place where she felt safe to hide, outside, it seemed a wise choice then. Life and death for her growing up were commonplace, self-protection and self-defence mode were second nature. Always looking for opportunities, this girl knows to find the lessons in life’s experiences. She lives expecting adversity in its many forms, emotional, spiritual, physical, or financial, rising up against all odds, not looking over her shoulder. She has immigrated three times, married, has a family of her own and is a proud mum of two very resilient children. Finding solace in the beauty of nature, practising gratitude for the life we have been given, she knows to slow the pace when it all goes too crazy. Appreciating that life is a process of learning, and that failure

is as important as success to grow, she maintains perspective drawing back on what she’s lived, evaluating every situation, appreciating the small things in life and kindness in good people. This person is me. It’s a common observation that in life some people are just weirdly lucky, successful, have an abundance of friends while others just can’t get out of their life’s emotional overwhelm. So, what separates these two types of people from each other? Do any of the phrases ‘C’est la vie!’, ‘Murphy’s Law’, ‘Que Sera Sera’, ‘That’s how the cookie crumbles’, ‘What will be, will be’ ring a bell to you? Maybe John Lennon’s famous line from the song Beautiful Boy, “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans” is one you know well, a quote from Allen Saunders first published 1957. We’re taught early to expect the unexpected with a casual acceptance, yet confidence comes when we are consciously aware of the lessons to be gleaned. Each of us have an ability to choose how we overcome life’s challenges, making the difference between growing or retracting as a person. This is where attitude, belief and mindset really play a part. “Every moment of one’s existence, one is growing into more or retreating into less. One is always living a little more or dying a little bit.” – Norman Mailer
The art of being truly resilient over time is what matters.
Floods, fires, accidents, famine and a global pandemic depict illustrations of people fighting through extreme adversity and realizing a reflex resilience which they never knew was there. Deep down inside of everyone is an inner strength often left untapped, discovered in cases of emergency. It’s a natural born resilience I believe we all have. The Oxford definition of resilience leaves me a little unsatisfied now, with my own observation of truly resilient people. It is ‘The ability of people or things to recover quickly after something unpleasant, such as shock, injury, etc.’ The art of being truly resilient over time is what matters. Keeping focused through life’s journey with a positive mindset, a belief in where you’re headed, striving for results and knowing strength comes from within, will allow you to leverage the archives of experience that have shaped you.
