Porque sabemos que nuestros lectores son en su mayoría hombres y mujeres de negocios, hablamos un lenguaje común con ellos y los invitamos a conocer las historias de otros tantos que se han atrevido a jugársela por dedicar sus vidas a crear industrias, generar cambios, en definitiva, proponer nuevos caminos para avanzar y crecer. Con un leve cambio de nombre incluido, CityMagZ es también un emprendimiento que se adapta a las necesidades del medio donde operan sus lectores.

After our second issue dedicated to the wine industry, we return to our original idea to show a different, diverse and fascinating Chile, embodied mainly in its people, entrepreneurs who transform dreams into projects, and ideas into concrete opportunities.

Because we know that our readers are mostly businessmen and women, we speak a common language with them and we invite them to know the stories of so many others who have dared to dedicate their lives to create industries, to generate changes, in short, to propose new ways to advance and grow. With a slight name change included, CityMagZ is also an enterprise that adapts itself to the needs of the environment where its readers operate.

Thus, in this third edition we show you, for example, how Santiago became the best destination for business tourism in South America and what impact this will have for our capital or what Carlos Cardoen is doing, the veteran businessman who transformed a sentence into an opportunity for an entire region.

We also talk about science and technology with several Belgian companies in Chile, committed to contributing through their experience with the sun or the wind to sustainable development through the diversification of energy sources. And among the many initiatives related to wine that we had to leave out in our previous edition, we now include the one that, we think, will begin to make world news very soon due to the particularity of its appellation of origin: the wines of the Sagrada Familia Valley.

A propósito de la distinción de la revista Business Destinations, que ubicó a nuestra ciudad en el primer lugar en el turismo de convenciones en Latinoamérica, quisimos saber el alcance del premio y sus consecuencias en el tiempo en una industria que mueve 135 billones de dólares anualmente en el mundo, y que en Chile no para de crecer. CityMagZ conversó con el ex intendente de la Región Metropolitana, la directora ejecutiva de Imagen País y el presidente de Santiago Convention Bureau, importantes actores en el logro. /// Since the Business Destinations magazine awarded our city with the first place in tourism of conventions in Latin America, we wanted to know what this award involves and the consequences in time it may have in an industry that moves 135 billion dollars annually in the world and which is rapidly expanding in Chile. CityMagZ spoke with the Intendant of the Metropolitan Region, the Executive Director of Imagen País and the Chairman of Santiago Convention Bureau, important figures in this achievement.

partir de un trabajo sostenido en el tiempo, Santiago logró consolidarse como una importante ciudad para convenciones y congresos internacionales, alcanzando un estatus propio de las grandes urbes. En un mercado que a nivel mundial moviliza 135 billones de dólares al año, la capital de Chile aparece como una de las opciones importantes para el turismo de negocios, el que se vincula directamente con viajes relacionados con obligaciones de carácter profesional.

Según consigna la Subsecretaría de Turismo, durante 2014 Santiago se posicionó como la segunda ciudad de América con más congresos y convenciones internacionales. En ese año, un total de 665 mil turistas de negocios llegaron al país, los que generaron más de 630 millones de dólares, un 3% más que el año anterior.

In a market that moves 135 billion dollars a year worldwide, the capital of Chile appears as one of the possible options for business tourism, which is connected directly with journeys related to professional obligations.

According to the Undersecretary of Tourism, during 2014, Santiago positioned itself as the second city in America with the most congresses and international conventions. During that year, a total of 665,000 business tourists visited the country, generating revenues of more than 630 million dollars, a 3% more than the previous year.

In 2015, Santiago had already been considered as the city that might become the capital of business tourism of the region, at least that was

En 2015 Santiago ya se perfilaba como posible capital del turismo de negocios de la región, al menos así lo manifestaba Roger Tondeur, presidente y fundador de Mci Group, importante empresa internacional dedicada a la organización de congresos, reuniones de negocios y eventos empresariales. “Hoy América Latina aparece como una de las mejores opciones en el concierto internacional como destino de eventos de carácter global y Santiago de Chile, que actualmente ocupa el tercer lugar en diversos rankings internacionales como destino de reuniones y eventos de negocios, reúne grandes condiciones para convertirse en la primera opción en esta área”, comentaba el suizo.

Ya en 2016, el ranking que elabora anualmente la International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), ubicó a Santiago en el tercer lugar en el ranking de las ciudades con más eventos internacionales. La capital de Chile organizó 64, superando a Río de Janeiro, São Paulo, Bogotá y Nueva York, entre otras ciudades con experiencia en la materia. Este auspicioso panorama impulsó al Santiago Convention Bureau, en conjunto con Imagen de Chile, a postular a la capital del país a una de las distinciones que otorga la prestigiosa revista especializada Business Destinations, que cuenta con más de 2 mil suscriptores, muchos de ellos con poder de decisión respecto de las sedes de futuros congresos.

¿EFECTOS POSITIVOS? A PARTIR DE 2020

El premio de la revista Business Destinations, que suma 10 años enfocada en los viajes corporativos, reconoce la principal oferta existente en distintas categorías de esta industria, que en el caso del turismo de negocios considera conferencias, exhibiciones y reuniones. La selección de los ganadores no se realiza a través de un jurado específico, sino que es el resultado de la visión de compradores y usuarios que votan mediante correo electrónico y redes sociales.

Robert Schmitz, presidente de Santiago Convention Bureau, asociación de empresas cuya misión es posicionar a nuestra capital como la mejor ciudad de Latinoamérica para la realización de eventos y reuniones internacionales, comparte la idea de que existían méritos suficientes como para optar a un reconocimiento internacional: “Nos pareció, junto con Imagen Chile, que era el momento de postular al premio de Business 8

what Roger Tondeur, founder of Mci Group, an important international company dedicated to the organisation of congresses, business meetings and entrepreneurial events, points out. “Today Latin America appears to be one of the best options in the international scene as a destination for global events and Santiago de Chile, that at present holds the third place in various international rankings as a destination for business meetings and events, meets the requirements to become the first option in this area,” indicates the Swiss.

In 2016, the ranking elaborated annually by the International Congress Convention Association (ICCA), already located Santiago in the third position in the ranking of the cities with the most international events. The capital of Chile organised 64 events, proving better than Río de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Bogotá and New York, among other cities with experience in the matter. This auspicious panorama encouraged Santiago Convention Bureau, jointly with Imagen de Chile, to nominate the capital city of the country as a candidate for one of the distinctions that Business Destinations grants, the prestigious specialised magazine, with over 2,000 subscribers; many of them having the power to decide over future congresses centres.

POSITIVE EFFECTS? STARTING 2020

The Business Destinations Magazine’s prize, which has been focused on corporate journeys for ten years, recognises the main available offer of this industry in different categories, which in the case of business tourism considers lectures, exhibitions and meetings. The prize-winners are not chosen through a specific jury; rather it is the result of buyers and users’ opinion that vote through e-mail and social nets.

Robert Schmitz, Chairman of Santiago Convention Bureau, an association of companies whose mission is positioning our capital city as the best city in Latin America for the realisation of events and international meetings, shared the idea that there were sufficient merits to qualify for an international recognition: «We and Imagen Chile thought that it was the right time to be a candidate for the prize granted by Business Destinations. We were selected in a shortlist of three candidates and, finally, it was determined that Santiago was very well ranked and prepared for business tourism.»

Imagen of Chile, the organism that seeks to promote positive aspects of the country abroad, also played an important role in obtaining the recognition. Its Executive Director, Myriam Gómez, recognises the efforts made in promoting business tourism: “The country has been promoted and has taken part in different fairs, congresses, expositions and seminars for over twenty-five years to position itself in the international scene.”

Destinations. Quedamos en una terna y finalmente se determinó que Santiago estaba muy bien catalogado y preparado para el turismo de negocios”.

Del mismo modo, Imagen de Chile, organismo que busca promover aspectos positivos del país en el extranjero, jugó también un rol importante para la obtención del reconocimiento. Su directora ejecutiva, Myriam Gómez, reconoce los esfuerzos de difusión realizados en el turismo de negocios: “El país lleva más de 25 años promoviéndose y participando en distintas ferias, congresos, exposiciones y seminarios para posicionarse en el concierto internacional”.

La ingeniera civil confía en que la tribuna que otorga el premio de Business Destinations tendrá efectos positivos: “Con estas distinciones esperamos que más ejecutivos y empresas nos consideren como alternativa de sede de sus encuentros, aprovechando la gran oferta que posee la ciudad en planos culturales, gastronómicos y de actividades de esparcimiento, como visitas a los centros turísticos y viñas que la rodean. A eso se suma una importante infraestructura hotelera y de conectividad, que mejorará aún más en los próximos años con un nuevo aeropuerto y más autopistas”.

Robert Schmitz coincide con la apreciación, aunque especifica que las consecuencias positivas se percibirán con el transcurso de los años: “Creemos que tendrá un efecto lento, no inmediato, porque impacta en la toma de decisiones sobre congresos y seminarios que se puedan organizar de 2020 en adelante, porque este rubro funciona al largo plazo. The civil engineer is convinced that the publicity generated by the prize granted by Business Destinations will have positive effects: “We hope that with these distinctions more executives and companies will regard us as an alternative for their meetings, taking advantage of the wide range of cultural and gastronomic attractions the city offers, as well as leisure activities, such as visits to resorts and vineyards around the city. This is in addition to a major hotel infrastructure and connectivity that will be improved in the years to come with a new airport and more highways.”

Robert Schmitz coincides with this idea, although he explains that the positive effects will be observed over the years: “We believe that these effects will be rather slow, not immediate, because they influence the decision-making process in relation to congresses and seminars that can be held from 2020 onwards, because this industry works in the long term. In the short term, it is important to build awareness about Santiago as a very good option in the tourism of meetings, particularly its image.”

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE POLITICAL WILL Schmitz, who is also the General Manager of Centro de Eventos Casa Piedra, admits the importance of the governmental support to comply with the initiatives of the industry: “After many years, we think we are achieving the development of political will in relation to this type of tourism, proof of this is the establishment in 2016 of the Corporación de Promoción de Turismo de Santiago, which became reality after much effort.”

LA IMPORTANCIA DE LA VOLUNTAD POLÍTICA Schmitz, quien además es gerente general del Centro de Eventos Casa Piedra, reconoce lo relevante que ha sido en el último tiempo el apoyo gubernamental para cumplir con las iniciativas del rubro: “Creemos que estamos logrando después de muchos años que exista una voluntad política respecto a este turismo, prueba de esto es la generación en 2016 de la Corporación de Promoción de Turismo de Santiago, que finalmente después de mucho esfuerzo se concretó”.

Efectivamente, luego de reiterados intentos fallidos se creó dicho organismo, tal como nos confirma Claudio Orrego, ex intendente de la Región Metropolitana: “La idea de articular el trabajo conjunto entre el sector público y privado en esta materia se venía incubando desde hace algún tiempo. Se intentó 14 veces crear la Corporación de Turismo de Santiago para unir a estos sectores mediante un trabajo colaborativo y coordinado, con el fin de potenciar la industria del turismo y lo que ello significa, que es además un importante fomento productivo para la región”.

“Un buen ejemplo de esa articulación es lo que vimos en la reciente feria del mercado de reuniones e incentivos de América Latina y El Caribe que tuvo sede en Santiago, Fiexpo Latinoamérica, de la cual fuimos parte. En esa instancia, compartimos de manera sinérgica los atractivos de Santiago para el turismo de negocios ante tomadores estratégicos de decisiones”, profundiza Orrego.

Robert Schmitz reconoce el respaldo del gobierno en el turismo de negocios, como el apoyo en la adjudicación de la Fiexpo, feria en que se pueden apreciar stands de los distintos países que promueven el turismo de negocios: “La autoridad está entendiendo que el gasto per cápita de este tipo de turistas tiene otros derivados, gastos aledaños enormes. Por lo tanto, el negocio también está en los lugares próximos del centro de convención: el taxista, el núcleo comercial de la esquina, la propina, etc. Lo que queda en la ciudad es mucho dinero gracias a las divisas que llegan desde el extranjero”.

En los últimos diez años las ganancias derivadas del turismo de negocios se duplicaron, mientras que la cantidad de visitantes por este concepto también creció: para el presente año se espera a 6,4 millones de personas, cifra muy superior a los 5,6 millones registrados en 2016.

EL APORTE AL CONOCIMIENTO El 80% de los congresos tienen relación con temas médicos y en menor medida con seminarios de tecnología. Para Schmitz, el hecho de organizar este tipo de eventos en nuestro país se tra10

Indeed, right after repeated unsuccessful attempts, the organism was created, as Claudio Orrego, Intendant of the Metropolitan Region, sustains: “The idea of a joint work between public and private sectors in this matter had been around for some time. There were fourteen attempts to create the Corporación de Turismo de Santiago to join these two sectors by means of a collaborative and coordinated work, so as to strengthen the industry of tourism and what it implies, an important development of production for the region.”

“A good example of this joint work is what we saw at the recent fair of the market of meetings and incentives of Latin America and The Caribbean that took place in Santiago, Fiexpo Latin America, in which we participated. In that instance, we shared in a synergistic manner Santiago’s attractions for business tourism in the presence of strategic decision-makers,” Orrego further explains.

Robert Schmitz recognises the Government’s support in the business tourism sector, as in Fiexpo’s awarding, fair in which stands can be seen from different countries that promote business tourism: “The authorities are now realising that the per capita expenditure of this sort of tourist has other spin-offs; enormous associated expenses. Therefore, business is also in the places around the convention’s centre: The taxi driver, the trade centre on the corner, the tip, etc. What is left in the city is a lot of money thanks to the arrival of foreigners».

During the last ten years, the profits derived from business tourism have doubled, while a number of visitors for this concept has also grown: 6.4 million people are expected this year, a far higher figure compared to the 5.6 million registered in 2016.

THE CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE 80% of congresses have to do with medical themes and, to a lesser extent, with technology seminars. For Schmitz, the fact of we organise this type of events in our country results in an invaluable contribution of knowledge on the subject.

“When there is a Latin American or worldwide congress on gynaecology, for example, 10 to 15 doctors travel from Chile and come into contact with their international pairs; they see new techniques, samples of innovative products, etc. And those doctors come back a little more specialised.

But when you invested in organising a congress and you earn the right to do so, how many Chilean gynaecologists would take part in that international congress? 200, 300 doctors who would live a new experience, but only 15 doctors would take part in this congress if it were organised in a different country. It is a knowledge that remains in the country and contributes to society,” the Chairman of Santiago Convention Bureau reflects.

Among so many good news, he himself provides us with the counterpoint, according to his experience abroad, in relation to what aspects should still be improved: “What is missing is to see Santiago as a single product and not like isolated things. In other countries, assistants arrive on branded buses with the respective congress image, and people with flags are waiting outside the hotel to welcome them. There is a full commitment that eventually generates loyalty and fidelity to the city. You remember this and the

Pero cuando invertiste en organizar un congreso y lo ganas, ¿cuántos ginecólogos chilenos participan en ese congreso internacional? 200, 300 médicos que viven una experiencia nueva que hubiese sido solo para 15 de haberse organizado en otro país ese mismo congreso.

Es conocimiento que queda en el país y que aporta a la sociedad”, reflexiona el presidente de Santiago Convention Bureau.

Entre tanta buena noticia, es él mismo quien nos ofrece el contrapunto, de acuerdo a sus vivencias en el extranjero, en relación con qué aspectos aún se debe mejorar: “Lo que falta es ver a Santiago como un solo producto y no como cosas aisladas.

En otros países los asistentes llegan en buses brandeados con la imagen del respectivo congreso, y afuera del hotel la gente está con banderas recibiéndolos. Hay un compromiso general, que finalmente genera lealtad y fidelidad con la ciudad. Te acuerdas de eso y de actividades lúdicas y constructivas como la reforestación de plazas, por ejemplo. En Santiago nos falta ese compromiso y creatividad, como la que encontré en Lima cuando abrieron un parque acuático, que ya había cerrado, porque la municipalidad lo solicitó para complacer a los participantes de ese congreso. Seguramente ninguno de los que asistimos lo olvidaremos”.

Fiexpo, cuya última edición se realizó del 4 al 6 de junio del presente año en Santiago, y la próxima también se realizará en la capital del 3 al 5 de junio de 2019.

omo Francisco son muchos los profesionales de diversas áreas que decidieron entrenarse para mejorar los resultados a la hora de comunicar sus ideas en público y privado, lo que ha marcado enormes diferencias con sus pares e incluso superiores, según señala Jorge Martínez Lubiano, de Speaker Coach, quien es consultor para empresas como Walmart, L’Oreal, Bayer y Ford: “Nueve de cada diez personas en Chile tienen dificultades para hablar en público. Lidiar toda una vida con el nerviosismo a hablar y exponerse es muy tortuoso, y limitará nuestro futuro académico y profesional”.

Jorge reconoce que lo vivió en carne propia: “Era muy tímido, tanto por mala pronunciación como por la dificultad de ordenar mis ideas, se me entendía poco cuando encontraba la valentía para atreverme a hablar”. Por eso decidió tomar todos los cursos 12

ientras en Chile aún se tramita la Ley de Eficiencia Energética, cuya aprobación se espera para el presente año, de acuerdo a REN21 (Red de Políticas de Energía Renovable para el siglo XXI), al menos 146 países tienen legislaciones promulgadas con ese fin. Es decir, más del 70% de las naciones del mundo están trabajando seriamente para optimizar esta materia y cumplir con la demanda, asegurando el abastecimiento con eficiencia productiva, usando fuentes alternativas y renovables, y desarrollando marcos regulatorios que lo propicien.

El documento legal chileno busca implementar un sistema de gestión de energía para empresas y al mismo tiempo establecer un plan de acción anual de eficiencia energética con objetivos y metas. En ese sentido, el fomento de la eficiencia energética pretende llegar a un 20% de ahorro al año 2025 (20.000 GWh/año), considerando el crecimiento esperado de consumo a la fecha. Y para el año 2050, a un 70% de reducción.

Las experiencias internacionales han sido valoradas por los sectores público y privado del país, ya que muchas iniciativas foráneas se han implementado como soluciones de energía.

Una de las entidades que fomentan la eficiencia energética en el país es la Cámara Chileno Belgo Luxemburguesa de Comercio A.G., cuyas empresas asociadas han mostrado especial interés 14

/// While in Chile the Energy Efficiency Law is still being processed, its approval is expected for 2018, according to REN21 (Net of Renewable Energy Policies for the XXI century), at least 146 countries have legislation enacted to that aim. That is to say, more than 70% of nations worldwide are seriously working to optimise this matter and to fulfil this demand, securing the supply with productive efficiency, using alternative and renewable sources, and developing regular regulatory frameworks that favour it.

The Chilean legal document seeks to implement a system of energy management for companies and, at the same time, establish an annual action plan for energy efficiency with objectives and goals. In this sense, the promotion of efficient energy use aims to reach a 20% saving in 2025 (20,000 GWh per year), considering the expected consumption growth to date. Moreover, for the year 2050, it aims for a reduction of 70%.

The international experiences have been valued by public and private sectors in the country, as many foreign initiatives have been implemented as energy solutions. One of the entities that has promoted the use of renewable resources in the country is the Cámara Chileno Belgo-Luxemburguesa de Comercio A.G. (Chilean Belgo-Luxemburg Chamber of Commerce A.G.), whose associated companies have shown particular interest in the matter. It is about the so-called ESCO — energy saving companies —: the ones oriented in energy efficiency.

en la materia. Se trata de las llamadas ESCO (del inglés energy services companies): las empresas que se orientan a la eficiencia energética.

“Chile es el país soñado para la eficiencia energética — parte destacando Alain Kaczorowski, presidente del directorio de la Cámara Belgolux—. El país empezó con la generación de electricidad con recursos hídricos, con represas, y ahora vemos que a nivel solar tiene el desierto con la mayor exposición del mundo. Chile en muchas materias puede ser visto como un laboratorio para implementar soluciones, por su riqueza de recursos. Tenemos una gran costa también, donde podemos usar la energía eólica. La verdad es el país soñado para instalar energías renovables y sustentables”, subraya el agente para Chile y Argentina del Grupo AGC, conglomerado que ve en su producto principal —el vidrio— un elemento primordial para el ahorro energético en edificios y viviendas.

Con casi 30 años en Chile, el también autor del libro Vida singular y el triángulo de las ilusiones nos entrega su visión del aporte energético de las empresas de la Cámara Belgolux: “Hemos entendido que innovación como tal es traer y trabajar con la mejor tecnología para optimizar. En el mundo, la ingeniería belga es muy reconocida por ser muy buena para hacer proyectos a medida, y acá ha funcionado muy bien. No se trata solo de traer paneles solares, instalarlos y que el sol produzca. En realidad hay que hacer un trabajo muy profundo de la optimización de lo que se va a hacer”.

CON MUCHA ENERGÍA En materia de eficiencia energética se establece cada vez con más fuerza la empresa Schréder, pionera en la tecnología LED, que ha instalado más de 600 mil luminarias de Arica a Punta Arenas. Agustín Cozzi, gerente general de la multinacional belga, nos entrega un panorama del desarrollo de esta implementación en Chile: “Es el país más avanzado de la región en materia de iluminación LED. El 25% del parque lumínico ha sido cambiado, tasa muy superior a la del resto de Latinoamérica.

Si las autoridades se lo proponen, podríamos alcanzar el 100% entre cinco a siete años. En Schréder tenemos la capacidad de hacerlo”.

Soltech, de Sol Invictus Group, en tanto, utiliza sus 28 años de experiencia en energía solar, para concretar proyectos con la mejor tecnología en pos de la eficiencia y la protección del entorno. Su fábrica de paneles solares ubicada en Bélgica permite dar vida a proyectos y productos hechos a la medida para cada uno de sus clientes en lo que respecta a fachadas fotovoltaicas, tejas solares y otras innovaciones. Para el mercado chileno, Soltech, además de los productos antes mencionados, propone la implementación de ciclovías solares, que han funcionado con mucho éxito en Francia y Holanda. Además de fomentar la vida sana, la innovación consiste en mantener siempre las vías de evacuación iluminadas, independiente de algún eventual corte energético.

«Chile is the dream country for renewable and sustainable energy,» highlights Alain Kaczorowski, president of the directory of the Belgolux Chamber.

«The country began with the generation of electricity with hydric resources, with dams, and now we see that, at a solar level, it has the desert with the greatest exposition in the world. Chile, in many ways, can be seen as a laboratory to implement solutions, because of its richness when it comes to resources. We have a great coast as well, where we can use wind power. The truth is, it’s the dream country to install renewable and sustainable energies,» stresses the agent for Chile and Argentina from the group AGC, a conglomerate that sees in its main product — glass — a primordial element for energy saving in buildings and households.

With nearly thirty years in Chile, the man, who is also the author of the book Vida Singular y el Triángulo de las Ilusiones (Singular Life and the Triangle of Illusions), gives us his vision of energy supply from the companies of the Belgolux Chamber: «We have understood that innovation as such is bringing and working with the best technology to optimise. In the Belgian engineering world, it’s highly recognised for being good to create custom projects, and it has worked very well here. It’s not just about bringing solar panels, installing them and let the sun produce energy. Actually, there’s a profound optimisation work of what is to be done.»

SOLAR PANELS Schreder, a pioneer in LED technology, is establishing itself with more and more strength, also in matters of energy efficiency, having installed more than 600,000 lights from Arica to Punta Arenas. Agustín Cozzi, the general manager of the Belgian multinational, gives us a panorama of the development of this implementation in Chile: «It’s the most advanced country in the region when it comes to LED illumination.

The 25% of the light park has been changed, with a higher rate than anywhere else in Latin America. If the authorities propose it, we could reach the 100% in five to seven years. In Schreder, we have the capacity to do so»

“Estamos ansiosos de saber cuál será la entidad vanguardista en Chile que marcará la diferencia con nuestras ciclovías y esperamos que dentro de un par de meses se inaugure en Chile la primera ciclovía solar de todo el continente americano. Será un hito que marcará el antes y el después de las voluntades hacia las energías renovables que ha demostrado el país hasta ahora”, afirma Natalia Herrera, gerente general de Soltech Chile.

En materia de calefacción, JAGA ha entrado con fuerza en el mercado nacional a partir de productos que no solo apuntan al ahorro energético, sino también a disminuir los índices de contaminación con experiencias exitosas en ciudades como Ámsterdam, según consigna Hanzer Lamora, gerente de la empresa en Chile: “Hay estudios que afirman que cuando cambiaron los radiadores convencionales por los nuestros, la emisión de CO2 bajó. En el país aportamos en los proyectos sociales a través del cambio de calefacción en hospitales y Cesfams, e iniciativas privadas en diferentes ciudades, especialmente en el sur.

Estamos certificados internacionalmente como los radiadores más eficientes del mundo, en términos que utilizan muy poco contenido de agua y a baja temperatura, y todos los elementos que lo componen son reciclados y luego reutilizados en otros radiadores”.

INGENIERÍA SUSTENTABLE El aporte de las empresas de la Cámara Belgolux va de la mano con las soluciones de ingeniería proporcionadas por compañías consolidadas como Tractebel, empresa de raíces belgas especialista en proyectos de energía, agua e infraestructura. Esta ha participado desde 1960 en distintas iniciativas en el país y actualmente aporta en los proyectos sostenibles colaborando en el avance en la transición energética.

El Grupo Machiels, por su parte, también ha brillado por proyectos vanguardistas, como la implementación del parque eólico “Vientos Fuertes”, ubicado en la Región de Arica y Parinacota, que cuenta con 35 aerogeneradores que producen entre 60 y 100 MW.

En ese sentido, las empresas asociadas a Belgolux permanentemente hacen visitas a terreno para realizar estudios que mejoren la calidad energética de las ciudades, como concluye su presidente, Alain Kaczorowski: “Siempre que viajamos a regiones tenemos un tremendo recibimiento, con gran calidez de la gente, pero también advertimos una necesidad de recibir una atención más especializada y un mayor diálogo. Muchas veces la distancia hace que las regiones se sientan apartadas, por eso que las misiones son muy bien recibidas por ambas partes: tanto por las autoridades y empresas locales como por nuestras empresas, que descubren que efectivamente hay otro mercado sustentable posible”.

Soltech from Sol Invictus Group, meanwhile, uses its 28 years of experience in solar energy, to realize projects with the best technology for efficiency and environmental protection. Its solar panels factory located in Belgium can give life to projects and products tailored to each of its customers with regard to photovoltaic facades, solar tiles and other innovations.

For the Chilean market, Soltech, in addition to the aforementioned products, proposes the implementation of solar cycle paths, which have been very successful in France and the Netherlands. In addition to promoting a healthy life, innovation consists in always keeping the evacuation routes illuminated, independent of any eventual power cut.

«We are eager to know which will be the avant-garde entity in Chile that will make the difference with our cycle paths and we hope that within a couple of months the first solar cycle path of the entire American continent will be inaugurated in Chile. It will be a milestone that will mark the before and after of the wills towards renewable energies that the country has shown up to now «, says Natalia Herrera, general manager of Soltech Chile.

In heating matters, JAGA has entered with strength in the national market based on products that not only aim for energy savings but also to diminish the pollution indices with successful experiences in cities such as Amsterdam. According to Hanzer Lamora, manager of the company in Chile: «There are studies that state that when conventional radiators were changed for ours, CO2 emission diminished. In the country, we contribute to social projects through the change of heating in hospitals and Cesfams, and through private initiatives in different cities, especially in the south. We are internationally certified as the most efficient radiators in the world, in terms that use very little water content and work at a low water temperature, and all the elements that compose it are recycled and then reused in other radiators.»

SUSTAINABLE ENGINEERING The contribution of the Belgolux Chamber goes hand in hand with the engineering solutions provided by consolidated companies such as Tractebel, a Belgian company specialising in energy, water and infrastructure projects. It has participated since 1960 in different initiatives in the country and currently contributes to sustainable projects collaborating in advance of energy transition.

Meanwhile Machiels Group, has also shined with vanguardist projects, such as the implementation of the wind park «Vientos Fuertes» (Strong Winds), located in the Arica and Parinacota Region, which counts with thirty-five wind turbines that produce between 60 and 100 MW.

In that sense, the enterprises associated with Belgolux permanently visit the terrains to realise studies that improve the energy quality in the cities, or so concludes its president, Alain Kaczorowski: «Every time we travel to the regions we have a tremendous welcome, with great warmth from the people, but we also warn a need to receive a more specialised attention and a greater dialogue. Many times, the distance makes the regions feel secluded, which is why the missions are well received by both parties: the authorities and the local enterprises as well as our companies, which discover that there is, indeed, another possible sustainable market.»

arlos Cardoen ocupa su tiempo actualmente en las cosas que lo apasionan, como el turismo. Por eso ha dotado a Santa Cruz —su ciudad natal, ubicada a 190 km al sur de Santiago—, y al Valle de Colchagua, en general, de una infraestructura propia de las zonas más atractivas de Chile para cualquier visitante. Entre sus inversiones destacan el importante viñedo Santa Cruz, un casino, un hotel y un museo. En este último es donde nos recibe y donde también se da el gusto (y se toma el tiempo) de acompañar a los visitantes para responder cualquier consulta que pudiera surgir acerca de alguna de las más de siete mil piezas en exhibición. Todas conseguidas por él.

A sus 76 años dice estar en un momento de tranquilidad, y de mucha reflexión. Valora su tiempo y es por eso que delegó en siete de sus ocho hijos —el menor estudia en la universidad— la administración de sus empresas, que era lo que más horas le demandaba: “No solo lo han hecho bien, sino que creo que mejor de lo que yo lo hubiera hecho, razón por la cual me enorgullezco mucho de que ellos me ayuden en esto, participen y a la vez sean socios en mis locuras”. ¿A qué les llama sus locuras?

Siempre ha sido vista como un cachito por los gobiernos, porque la cultura no da votos. Hay que presentarla de manera atractiva, entretenida, motivante y sobre todo orientada hacia los niños, que son el futuro. Es captarla, sentirla, intuirla.

¿Cree que Chile aprovecha las oportunidades en materia de turismo?

Siempre he pensado que uno tiene que concentrarse en las cosas que uno puede cambiar, y las que no, tienes que tener serenidad para aceptarlas. Pero también tienes que tener la sabiduría para distinguir la diferencia. Yo me concentro en hacer cambios donde puedo hacerlos, y el resto es el entorno, lo que te tocó: políticos mediocres. ¿Está desencantado con los políticos?

La política en Chile tiene una mediocridad que no tiene comparación. Pero qué puedo hacer yo con eso, no mucho, excepto emitir estas opiniones. ¿Cómo observa la relación entre el dinero y la sociedad?

Soy ingeniero y toda mi actividad la he llevado en la empresa dura, produciendo para otros. Pero en el proceso me fui dando cuenta de que en generar recursos, buscar soluciones a problemas existentes en el modelo que tenemos como sociedad de libre mercado, hay una cierta perversidad, ya que la sociedad transformó el dinero, que es un medio, en un objetivo, una meta, un fin. Es una herramienta, pero por alguna razón nuestra sociedad lo convirtió, a través del consumismo, en un fin. ¿Eso explica su interés por las tradiciones y la cultura?

La tecnología hoy lo arrasa todo, incluso a los niños, que dedican mucho tiempo a sus computadores y teléfonos, los va separando de la posibilidad de sentirse parte de esta tierra, porque está bien esta universalización del mundo, pero las características que genera la pertenencia a espacios de nuestro querido país es muy importante en la formación de la personalidad de los niños. Aquí estamos tratando de la manera más didáctica y entretenida de entregar a los niños un respeto profundo por sus raíces, pasado y esencia, y esa es una tarea que me he fijado.

La educación desde pequeños es fundamental.

Tuve la suerte de tener una educación maravillosa, muy real. Fui a la escuela pública de Santa Cruz, educado por profesores normalistas que para mí eran ejemplo de educación y que lamentablemente ya no existen. Me eduqué en el Barros Arana, estuve interno seis años, de tal manera que viví la realidad de nuestro país desde niño. No me criaron en ninguna burbuja, y me he preocupado de que mis hijos tampoco vivan en una, porque para mí la educación tiene que tener algunos componentes entre los cuales está el rigor, el maestro más grande que puede tener la educación de una persona, porque para disfrutar el pan duro hay que haber tenido hambre. ¿Qué piensa del actual Carlos Cardoen?

Me gustaría pensar de mí como un catalizador, como el que ayuda a hacer que las cosas pasen y no necesariamente hacerlas yo. Me interesa que la región crezca, que crezca en las cosas del alma y ¡qué mejor que las tradiciones, el turismo, nuestras costumbres, la comida! La gente se divide en dos grupos: a los que les pasan las cosas y los que hace que las cosas pasen.

Quiero estar siempre en el grupo que hace que las cosas pasen.

Are you disappointed with politicians?

Politics in Chile is filled with mediocrity without any comparison possible. But what can I do about it, not much, except giving my opinion.

What do you think about the relationship between money and society?

I am an engineer and I have taken all my activities in the hard company, producing for others. But along the process I have realized that there is a certain perversity when generating resources, looking for solutions to existent problems in the model of free market that we have as a society, since society transformed money, a means, into an objective, a goal, an end. It is a tool, but for some reason society, through consumerism, turned it into an end.

Does that explain your interest in traditions and culture?

Today technology ravages everything, even children, who dedicate too much time to their computers and telephones, preventing them from the possibility to feel themselves as part of this land, because this universalization of the world is all right, but the characteristics that belonging to a certain space of our dear country generate are very important in the formation of the personality of children. We are here trying to inspire children with a deep respect for their roots, their past and their essence in the most didactic and entertaining way and that is a task that I have set myself.

Education from childhood is fundamental.

I was lucky to have a wonderful, very real education. I went to a public school in Santa Cruz, educated by normalistas teachers who were example of education for me and who no longer exist unfortunately. I studied in Barros Arana, I was a boarding student for six years, in such a way that I lived the reality of our country from childhood. Convertido en objeto culto, el zapato dice mucho de quien lo lleva, ya que sus múltiples formas, con base en sus usos y estilos, revelan la personalidad de quien los luce. Zapatería Maestra, Bestias, Taba, Camille, Giani DaFirenze, Barbara Briones, Sitrana, La Horma, Casa Laporte y Z&D Makers son algunos de los nombres que han entrado a diversificar el mercado del zapato en Chile, y que suman alrededor de 34 de los 628 millones de dólares anuales que aporta el sector del calzado a la economía nacional.

SU PROPIO RITMO Si bien la industria de la moda se mueve de forma veloz, produciendo dos grandes colecciones por año (primavera-verano y otoño-invierno) —y en algunos casos dos colecciones intermedias conocidas como resort o crucero—, la del calzado de autor en Chile no busca competir con el retail, sino que, por el contrario, realiza procesos de producción mucho más lentos, pero de mejor calidad.

“La gran diferencia entre el zapato de autor y el zapato masivo es que si bien el primero observa la tendencia, en cuanto a tipología, forma y color, no se casa 100% con la tendencia, porque no le interesa generar modelos asociados a la masividad, sino que poner las tendencias a disposición del diseño”, explica Sofía Calvo, socia de Matriz Moda y directora de la plataforma de tendencias Quinta Trends, agregando que lo que se busca es hacer un zapato que tenga elementos diferenciadores.

El resultado se traduce en un zapato que tiene un nivel de calidad y durabilidad superior al que se encuentra en el retail, y por lo mismo con un mayor precio, entre $60.000 y $150.000, aproximadamente.

Con respeto al modelo, según los expertos, la mujer chilena usa bastante taco alto; sin embargo, en los últimos años se ha ido bajando un poco, por lo que vemos un incremento en el uso de zapatos bajos, y es justamente esa variedad de diseño lo que ha permitido que los modelos bajos tengan estilo, calcen bien y resalten el look de quien los usa.

LOS NUEVOS CLIENTES Con las mujeres a la delantera, en Chile se esta generando un cambio de comportamiento respecto al mundo de la moda, ya que internet, las redes sociales y el aumento explosivo de los viajes al extranjero han permito que los chilenos, poco a poco, se vuelvan clientes más exigentes y selectivos a la hora de escoger cómo vestirse y calzar.

A paso tímido han comenzado a despojarse de su estilo a veces demasiado “clásico y conservador”, tan típico de nuestra idiosincrasia. Porque en América Latina somos los más tradicionales para vestir, y en nuestros armarios reina el negro, el beige y el café. Y si nos compararnos con Europa, aún estamos a 20 años de Milán, donde el invierno es mucho más frío, pero se capea con abrigos y chaquetas de piel.

e trata de un lugar excepcional para la agricultura, especialmente para el cultivo de la vid vinífera, porque disfruta de un clima templado mediterráneo, con estaciones muy definidas: veranos algo calurosos e inviernos ligeramente fríos. María Consuelo Corta, propietaria de Korta Wines, conoce de cerca el Valle de Sagrada Familia, lugar donde su padre comenzó con una curtiembre y luego como familia iniciaron otros emprendimientos que se mantienen con mucha vigencia, como conserveras de marrasquinos y ciruelas deshidratadas, campos donde han podido diversificar la producción de cerezas y avellanas, y especialmente sus viñas.

Nos acompañaron ocho viñas que creyeron en la idea y llegaron 6 mil personas a disfrutar de la celebración que duró dos días”, complementa la representante de Korta Wines, que también se detiene en otro de los objetivos del proyecto: “Necesitamos que los productores vendan sus uvas a las viñas locales. Queremos que los beneficios se queden en la comuna, para lo cual es importante que los precios sean mejores para los pequeños productores y que las ventas se realicen a las propias viñas de Sagrada Familia, donde hay una hermosa población comprometida con la comuna”.

Próximos a conformar una asociación gremial, en principio con cuatro viñas y dos productores de uva, en Sagrada Familia continuarán trabajando con el objetivo de potenciar su hermoso valle que cuenta con 4.500 hectáreas de viñedos.

Entre tanta novedad, nos llamaron la atención variedades que hasta hace un tiempo no eran muy comunes en los estantes de supermercados y tiendas especializadas: Cinsault y Moscatel, que no son muy tradicionales pero que dan vinos de mucha personalidad.
