NEW ESPACIO ORTIZ ECHAGÜE A new space was opened on the main floor of the building displaying photographs by José Ortiz Echagüe, representing his main photographic series: “España tipos y trajes” (Spain: types and suits), “Pueblos y paisajes” (Villages and landscapes), “Castillos y alcázares” (Castles and fortresses) and “España mística” (Mystic Spain), along with the developing techniques he used.

COLLABORATIVE EXHIBITIONS “Oriente al Sur: el calotipo y las primeras imágenes fotográficas de la Alhambra (18511860)”, with the support of the Board of Patrons of the Generalife de la Alhambra. This exhibition displayed sixty original works from the museum’s collection, along with Louis DeClerq’s album “Voyage en Espagne”, which contains 51 albumin prints made from wax paper negatives.
Bleda y Rosa. Geografía del tiempo. Inaugural exhibition of Bombas Gens Centre d’Art, a new artistic space opened in Valencia. The coproduction of the Fundació Per Amor a l’Art of the Comunitat Valenciana, Centro Galego de Arte Contemporáneo and the Museo Universidad de Navarra. The exhibition can be visited in Pamplona in the spring of 2018. “En el tiempo”, by Carlos Cánovas, a coproduction of the Fundación ICO which will be on diplay in 2018 at the Museo ICO (Madrid).

Tender Puentes is a curatorial project that has been promoted by the Museum since 2002. As part of the project contemporary artists engage with other authors and works from the museum’s collection, creating new productions. A collection that traces the history of photography in Spain, form its origins right up to today, looking at photography from its documentary aspect in relation to the real and the imaginary.

SHOWS AND TRAINING ACTIVITIES IN THEATRE, MUSIC AND DANCE The Museum closes a season in which the performing arts and music have seen the attendance figures rise 24% on the previous year. During the year, 44 activities which attracted over 7,000 spectators 32 shows were represented: 13 of these were musical, 10 dance and 9 theatre. This offering was completed with the following training activities: 2 urban dance workshops (one with Dani Panullo and another with BluPrint), 3 conferences, 3 cinema screenings and 2 wine tastings dedicated to characters from Don Quixote in collaboration with the University of Navarra Golden Age Research Group (GRISO).

CINEMA The Museum’s cinema programme of the included film premieres, reruns and remastered versions of classics, curatorial cycles and masterclasses. This year, film makers Pedro Costa, Mauro Herce, Andrés Duque and Salomé Lamas will give a masterclass in the Museum. What’s more, two works by director King Hu have been recovered thanks to the collaboration of the Economic and Cultural Office of Taipei in Madrid. And the group Mamut Cinema provided live music for a screening of the chronophotographic films of Jules Marey (1830-1904). COMMISSIONED BY

PUBLIC PROGRAMMES The Museum organises congresses, seminars, conferences and activities for all audiences with the objective of bringing art closer to the general public. This course included: 45th anniversary of the Encuentros de Pamplona 1972 Cycle “El artista está en el campus” 2nd edition of the first novel writing workshop with André Barba, the International Photography and Architecture Congress with the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra (ETSAUN), the Photography and Modern Architecture in Spain Research Project (FAME) “TV Series Lovers” cycle of conferences on television series with the Faculty of Communication.

“TV SERIES LOVERS” TELEVISION SERIES CONFERENCE CYCLE WITH THE FACULTY OF COMMUNICATION
In the words of the Museum’s Director, Jaime Garcia del Barrio, “the Museum of the University of Navarra has a lot in common with the Encuentros of 72: both are current and promote artistic creation with an interdisciplinary approach and an international vocation. That’s why, for us, the Encuentros are more than just an event; they are our inspiration, part of our DNA and our origin, given that this museum was also set up thanks to the donation from the Maria Josefa
Huarte Collection”. The Museum is celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Encuentros de Pamplona of 1972, coordinated by Rafael Llano, who has dedicated two years to the research work involved. The commemorative acts were attended by Jose Luis Alexanco, Luis de Pablo, Xabier Morras and Eduardo Momene. They closed with a concert in the theatre where the Taller Sonoro ensemble recited the chamber production of composer Luis de Pablo.

NEW MASTER IN CURATORIAL STUDIES
In October 2018 the Master in Curatorial Studies will be taught in the Museum. Directed by the lecturer Nieves Acedo, responsible for the Museum’s academic activities, it represents the introduction in Spain for the first time of an official university qualification for the training of curators, an essential profession in contemporary cultural environments.

The faculty stands out, with professionals of international prestige like Vicente Todolí, Gerardo Mosquera, Gabriel Pérez Barreiro, Sergio Rubira, Katya García Antón and Tania Pardo. This also contributes to the international reputation of the Master which will be taught in Spanish and English and will include a curatorial trip and internships at different institutions around the world. During the classes period, students will learn about the different departments of the Museum while becoming involved in its activity.
OTHER ACTIVITIES IN THE ACADEMIC SPHERE
In addition to this course, the following academic events have also taken place at the Museum: Third graduating class of the Diploma in Curatorial Studies, which the Museum offers in collaboration with the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters, in which students of Philosophy and Letters, Education and Psychology and Communication and Architecture participate; the second class of the Performing Arts Production Programme, which the Museum organises with the Faculty of Communication with the participation of 55 students;
The module “Introduction to Contemporary Art: the Museum of the University of Navarra Collection” offered by the Instituto Core Curriculum for students in the Faculties of Education and Economics; The “Communication and Critical Culture” is also in collaboration with the Faculty of Communication and sees the participation of several critics and journalists from the cultural sector.
The Museum has begun to participate in the Educational Innovation Projects of the University of Navarra. Projects for 8 subjects have been submitted and approved, which will be taught in the facilities of Education and Psychology, Institute of Languages, Law, Communication, Sciences and Medicine in the academic year 20172018.

EDUCATIONAL AREA The educational are of the Museum promotes education in society through artistic resources. It organises many activities for schoolchildren, families, teachers and different groups.

9.35 / 10 2nd EDITION OF THE PAINTING COMPETITION “LA VIDA SECRETA DE UN CUADRO” in collaboration with the Fundacion Morras Cebrian. The Museum organises this painting competition open to schoolchildren and all school and academy levels. This edition saw the participation of 37 centres (17 more than the previous year).

GUIDED TOURS This year also saw the introduction of the Guided Tour Procedure, which includes a new welcome plan, support and training for the Museum’s guides. This system is aimed at ensuring the quality of the contents and the exhibitions at the Museum for visitors. This training plan includes sessions with artists whose work is exhibited in the Museum. Thus, as part of this course there were tours guided by Daniel Canogar, Javier Viver, Luis González Palma and Carlos Cánovas.

Enjoying Christmas, the urban children’s camp which takes place during the Christmas holidays saw participant prepare Christmas decorations for the NGO Andi Junior. They prepared costumes and a script to close the camp with a creative nativity play. During Easter Week, participants enjoyed a performance of the musical Mary Poppins; the children came up with creative ideas for costumes and songs that were later performed in the up-stage space of the Theatre. At the Hi artist! summer camps, children created their own jellyfish, learning the story of the immortal jellyfish, visited exhibitions and carried out activities in the workshops and on the campus.
INTERNATIONAL MUSEUM DAY From 18 to 21 May the Museum joined in the activities to mark International Museum Day, hosting four open days and many different group activities. The number of guided tours was increased and specific workshops were held for people with special needs. OTHER ACTIVITIES In addition to all the activities described, the educational area carried out many other activities in collaboration with other centres and associations. Among them were the “Crear en atención” programme, aimed at children with ADHD, organised in collaboration with the University of Navarra Clinic and the Faculty of Education and Psychology. Arteterapia was also involved in the second of these summer courses. Workshops and guided tours also took place with different groups including Syrian refugees, different groups of Spanish and international students of the University of Navarra and the students of the University de Navarra Music Conservatory. They hosted several workshops in collaboration with different teachers and centres of the University of Navarra. PUBLICATIONS This year, the Educational Area published the book “Los cuentos del Museo”.

The budget of the Museum of the University of Navarra in included in the budget of the University of Navarra. Nevertheless, its management is the responsibility of the Governing Body of the Museum, whose objective is the correct administration of resources in achieving objectives.
The Museum submits accounts to the aforementioned governing bodies of the University of Navarra once a year.
