FUTUREMAN | SILVERMAN Friday, May 19 @ 7pm $30 Premium/$25 General

FUTUREMAN | SILVERMAN is a wide-ranging musical conversation between two of the world’s most eclectic and adventurous musicians. Roy “Futureman” Wooten is a 5x GRAMMY-winning percussionist, founding member of Béla Fleck & the Flecktones, a composer, inventor and innovator. Dubbed “the greatest living exponent of the electric violin" by the BBC, Tracy Silverman is the world’s foremost concert electric violinist. His groundbreaking work with the electric 6-string violin has led to collaborations with the world’s greatest composers as well as premieres at Carnegie Hall. The combination of the two is explosive. Utilizing electronics, live looping and spontaneous musical interaction, they create soundscapes and grooves that will make you look for the other members of this duo. The journey spans rock, jazz, Latin, and Asian grooves, and includes original works as well as “de-rangements” of electric violin concertos.

“ Fleet agility and tangy expressivity with wailing hints of Jimi Hendrix.” A N T H O N Y

@MoMM Music in Our Natural World

A Concert and Conversation Sunday, August 6 @ 4pm $15*

Presented in partnership with the La Jolla Historical Society, we welcome composer, performer, and instrument builder Cheryl E. Leonard for an evening of music that explores our natural world. Cheryl’s compositions combine sounds from natural-object instruments with field recordings of natural soundscapes. Accompanied by videos, she plays an array of amplified stones, wood, water, sand, seaweed, shells, feathers and bones. The voices of these unconventional instruments intertwine with the sound of oceans, streams, lakes, glaciers, storms and wildlife. An audience Q&A and a wine and cheese reception follow the performance. This event is presented in partnership with the La Jolla Historical Society and their exhibition Weather on Steroids: the Art of Climate Change. *Eligible for Learning Track Credit
