Creative Waiting ... So also liegen sie um diese Jahreszeit da, die Mainfloors in dieser Ecke der Welt. Schön bunt beleuchtet, einladend, aber trotzdem irgendwie alleine, wie auf dieser Aufnahme, die unserem Fotografen im ländlichen Brandenburg gelang. Liegen geduldig da und warten, dass die Partymeute langsam mal in die Gänge und dann die Mainfloors besuchen kommt, um ihnen endlich wieder mit nackten Füßen das Gras auf dem Rücken zu kraulen ... Colourful and shining, inviting yet somehow solitary as on this shot, which our patient photographer was so happy to capture in the fields of Brandenburg. The splendid specimen on the picture has become considerably large already as it seems, probably as a result of the mild winter and warm April. So now the main floors wait uncomplaining for party people to slowly gather their things and come visit them again, tickle them with their bare feet, and... Ahem. A Second Life

Nach zehn Jahren Trance, in denen ich mir sicher war, alles erlebt zu haben, was möglich ist, stelle ich nun fest: Falsch gedacht! Ich fand eine zweite Welt und mit ihr mein Second Life ... wieder voller Psytrance! Second Life ist eine Art Interaktiver-Rollenspiel-Musikstream-Chatroom. Zu Beginn wählt man die virtuelle Erscheinung aus. Und los geht‘s! Plötzlich kann man fliegen und sich teleportieren lassen und alles sein: Raumschiffkommandant, Meerjungfrau, Drachen oder Fee – der Phantasie sind keine Grenzen gesetzt! Und die zu erkundende Welt ist unendlich. Für mich geht es in Second Life um Kontakte: Ich wohne jetzt mit dem britischen Trance-DJ Psygma und dessen Freundin unter Palmen, bin Crew-Mitglied in einem virtuellen Club und mache UV-Deko - für eine überraschen große Cyber-Szene. Begonnen hat alles im Eyes of Gaia, das ist der virtuelle PsyClub von Alt-Trance-Legende Chi-AD, der jetzt Second Life als Chi Greene bewohnt. Es war für mich eine wunderbare Überraschung, einen virtuellen Club zu finden, der sich so echt anfühlt. Und eine der ersten zu sein, die Chis neue Tracks hören würde (geplanter Release im Herbst). Unsere reale Trance-Szene hat sich stark verändert

– daher war es für Chi an der Zeit, eine neue Community-Form zu finden. Das Eyes Of Gaia-Projekt ist für ihn ein wichtiger Schritt, PsyTribes weltweit zu verbinden: »Ich glaube, dass wir unsere Trance-Kultur heilen können, so dass nachfolgende Generationen wieder das gleiche Erlebnis haben, dass uns einst mit der Szene verschweißte. Es gibt also viel Arbeit für uns, sowohl im Denken als auch mit Energien. Schön ist, dass so etwas in RL (Real Life) eine Ewigkeit dauert, aber in SL entwickeln sich Dinge schneller.« Und es scheint, als habe er Recht: das Eyes of Gaia-Netzwerk wächst, die Crew ist inzwischen britisch/ deutsch, die Besucher kommen aus ganz Europa, Afrika, Israel, USA, Kanada und selbst China. Ein bemerkenswerter Schritt! Das Interesse internationaler DJs an LiveStreams steigt, so dass Pläne für eine psychedelische Welt im eigenen Sim ausgearbeitet werden. Dank Teleporter beginnt man

eine musikalische Reise auf einer privaten Party und taucht anschließend in das Laser-Lichtermeer von Eyes of Gaia ein. Danach geht es für das Indien-Feeling an den Strand von Goa und zuletzt auf das riesige Festival Island. Und auch wenn Ihr es nicht glaubt, es ist möglich, virtuell zu tanzen! Es gibt Tanzanimationen, man muss nur noch Play/Stop drücken. Wer gut darin ist, kann sich dann sogar im Rhythmus der Musik bewegen. Clubs bieten auch automatische Animation – das macht es einfacher, die Musik zu genießen und sich mit anderen zu unterhalten. Anfangs hört sich alles seltsam an, aber Second Life geht einen Schritt weiter als Chat und Co. Plötzlich ist man in der Lage, Erkundungen, Musik und Gedanken gemeinsam zu teilen. Wenn man das möchte. Denn zuletzt entscheidet das jeder für sich selbst.

for Goa Tribes I thought 10 years of trance had expansioned my mind in terms of what is possible ... Ha. I was so wrong! Now I realized that there is another world – a Second Life. And it is full of psytrance again! But from the beginning: Second Life is this interactive-chatroom-roleplay- musicstream-thing. You choose your virtual appearance – and start. Suddenly you can fly, teleport, and be what you want: starship captain, mermaid, dragon, fairy – whatever. Exploring the world – or sim as it is called here. For me, it‘s all about connecting to the world: Suddenly I live at the beach sharing a house with British Trance DJ Psygma and his girlfriend. I am working as staff in a virtual psytrance club, promoting DJs and creating UV-decoration. And there is a huge Goa scene online! I got connected at Eyes of Gaia, the virtual psytrance club of legendary Chi-AD. Having had many psy-releases for 10 years, he is wandering Second Life as Chi Greene now. It was quite exciting for me to find a club that feels that close to the R(eal)L(ife)-trance-experience. And be one of the first to listen to Chi‘s new tracks (upcoming album in autumn)! Chi has realized changes within the scene, shifting from underground sharing-energy to mainstream mass-freak out. Time to create a new

form of community. For Chi himself, the Gaia-project is an important step to reconnect members of psytribes worldwide: »I feel we can heal our culture so that many more generations can enjoy the reason why we got into it in the 1st place. So a lot of thinking and channeling is to be done. Cool thing is, in RL this can take an age to complete but through Second Life, things move so much quicker.« And he was right: a network starts growing, Eyes of Gaia going international: British/German staff, visitors from all over Europe, Africa, Israel, USA, Canada and even China. An amazing step - and growing interest of DJs. So Eyes of Gaia has now plans on moving to an own sim, creating a full psychedelic island. Second Life allows listening to livesets from all over the world. And offers a variety of trance locations: due to teleport you can start with a private party, followed by psychedelic laser-lights at Eyes of Gaia. Head on to Goa-Beach for Indian party fee-

lings, check the huge Festival Island and finish your travel with an afterhour at a private island again ... You may not want to believe it, but dancing really is possible in a computer! You will find dance animations and press play/stop to control them. If you know your moves, you‘ll even be able to dance to the rhythm. Clubs allow to choose auto-dancing. So you can just enjoy the music or chat with others. It sounds weird at first but Second Life goes far beyond chat and instantmessaging: suddenly you experience things together. You explore, listen to music, show things you did to the new world‘s people. You let them take part in what you are. IF you like to! In the end, it‘s all up to you. New Hamburg Avantgarde Hamburg-Sound war lange ein Fachbegriff für den typischen Progressive-UmpaTrance. Aber auch in der Elbmetropole hat eine neue Generation das Ruder übernommen. Zu ihren Top Acts gehören die Jungs aus den Glamour Studios: Henrik Twardzik / Neelix, Deniz Aydin / Day.Din und Fabio Fusco / DJ Fabio. Henrik (31) arbeitet an Zeichentrickproduktionen mit, Deniz (26) als Tontechniker im Theater, Fabio (25) widmet sich ganz der Musik. Wie sieht Euer Alltag so aus? Deniz: Meistens bekomme ich schon morgens einen Anruf von Fabio oder Henrik. Üblicherweise viel zu früh. Die Stimme am Telefon sagt

eigentlich immer: »Steh erst mal auf, ich ruf‘ in einer Stunde noch mal an.« Henrik: Das ist tatsächlich so! Sogar von der Arbeit aus rufe ich Deniz fast jeden Morgen an. Da wir zusammen mit Ulf aka Alfredo Garcia auch Musik für Funk und Fernsehen produzieren, gibt es immer etwas zu besprechen.

Fabio, was hat es eigentlich mit Deiner Skater-Karriere auf sich? Fabio: Mit neun Jahren habe ich angefangen zu skaten und dadurch recht früh mein Talent erkannt. Die Dinge nahmen ihren Lauf und ich begann, das Ganze professionell anzugehen. Seit ein paar Jahren betreibe ich Skaten nur noch als Hobby. Henrik: Fabio, Alex aka Galactika und ich haben uns eigentlich 1993 beim Skaten kennen gelernt. Damals hatten wir mit Musik noch gar nichts zu tun. Fabio war erst elf und schon einer der besten Skater Hamburgs. Drei Jahre später wurde er das erste Mal Deutscher Meister,

später zweifacher Europameister und mehrmals Vizeweltmeister. Produziert Ihr oft zusammen? Deniz: Also, Henrik produziert seine Musik ausschließlich alleine, Fabio und ich arbeiten sehr oft zusammen. Dass sich unsere Musik in einigen Bereichen ähnelt, hat viel damit zu tun, dass wir uns gegenseitig stark beeinflussen und viel von der Meinung des anderen halten. Grundsätzlich finden wir die Musik des anderen immer besser, was uns vorantreibt. Was geht bei Euch im Moment musikalisch? Henrik: Ich habe das letzte Jahr an meinem dritten Album »Same Thing But Different« gearbeitet, das gerade frisch in den Regalen steht. Die derzeitige Elektro-Welle ging auch an mir nicht spurlos vorbei und deshalb sind auf dem neuen Album einige Elektro-Einflüsse vorhanden. Fabio: Die letzten zwei Jahre arbeiteten Sascha aka Bitmonx und ich intensiv an unserem Debut-Album »Plugged«, das jetzt bei Plusquam Records erscheint und stark dem Progressive Trance zugewandt ist. In letzter Zeit habe ich unter anderem mit Deniz Elektro produziert, aber wir planen unter einem anderen Namen in diesem Bereich Fuß zu fassen. Mehr wird noch nicht verraten. Deniz: An meinem ersten Album sitze ich nun auch schon fast zwei Jahre. Henrik drängt schon seit etwa drei Jahren: »Mach Dein Album fertig! Worauf wartest Du!?« Aber ich war nie wirklich zufrieden und wollte warten, bis alles stimmt. Ich unterlag dem Trugschluss, dass man das

Diesen Monat erscheint auf Spintwist Records mein Debütalbum »Speaker‘s Corner«. Seht Ihr eine Zukunft als Musiker oder wird es ein Hobby bleiben? Fabio: Ich rede jetzt mal für uns drei. Die Musik ist schon lange kein Hobby mehr, sie ist zu unserem Beruf, unserer Berufung geworden. Wir arbeiten alle drei schon länger breit gefächert und produzieren nicht nur Progressive Trance, wie vor einiger Zeit noch. Ich denke, dass ihr in den nächsten Jahren noch viel von uns hören werdet. Wie kamt Ihr auf Glamour Studios? Henrik: Glamour Studios ist unsere Studio-Gemeinschaft, die ich ins Leben gerufen habe, bestehend aus den Studios von Deniz, Fabio, Ulf und mir. Im Zuge der exklusiven CDs, die wir auf unseren Parties verschenken, ist es gleichzeitig ein Label, das den Hörer eher unkonventionell erreichen möchte. For quite some time the term Hamburg sound stood for the typical progressive umpa trance. But meanwhile a new generation‘s modern style has taken over. At Glamour Studios three important artists in this development meet and work: Henrik Twardzik / Neelix, Deniz Aydin / Day.Din and Fabio Fusco / DJ Fabio. Henrik works in animated film productions, Deniz as a sound engineer in theatre and Fabio is fully devoted to music. Whats happening musically with you at the moment? Henrik: Last year I’ve been working on my third album »Same Thing But Different« which has just hit the shelves. The electro wave also didn’t pass me by and therefore there are some electro influences present on the new album.

Fabio: For the last two years Sascha aka Bitmonx and myself have been working intensely on our debut album »Plugged« which will appear on Plusquam Records and is strongly oriented towards progressive trance. Lately amongst other things I’ve been producing electro with Deniz, but we’re planning to start off in this area under a different name. That‘s all we‘d like to say about that for the moment. Deniz: I’ve been working on my first album now for almost two years. Henrik has been pushing me since almost three years: »Finish your album! What are you waiting for!?« I’ve never really been satisfied and I wanted to wait until everything felt right. I was under the erroneous belief that you can actually come to think that about your music at some point. I am of the opinion that I can stand behind my current productions and that they meet today’s expectations. My debut album »Speakers’ Corner« will appear this month on Spintwist Records. Do you see your future as musicians or will it remain a hobby? Fabio: I’m now speaking for the three of us: Music has become our profession, our mission. Since quite some time all three of us are working with a broad scope and no longer only produce progressive trance as was the case some time ago. This year saw the arrival of a new player at the music fair: Icon. I was surprised to see a company arrive on the market with such a broad range of varied products. Normally this is only possible if they work hidden in a secret research lab for months on end or have been undercover in the scene. The latter is the case with Icon: after diligently supplying other brands with technology, they are now bringing their know how to the market under their own label. I recognised components used by some of the leading brands in the pro audio market. Their audio interfaces and keyboards with Creamware software and audio interface options caught my attention, however their studio monitors especially stood out. Proton Records Atomar Sounds from Brazil Cristiano Guimaraes aka DJ Bishop hat das brasilianische Full-on-Label Proton Records 2002 in Belo Horizonte gegründet, bis zum ersten Release sollte es aber noch zwei Jahre dauern. Vorher hatte Cristiano Partys organisiert. Brasilien war gerade auf dem Sprung, der Hotspot des Psytrance zu werden, als Cristiano beschloss, den ersten Schritt zu gehen. Er hatte zuvor in Europa einige Erfahrungen gesammelt, sein Englisch aufgebessert und sein erstes Booking auf einem großen internationalen Festival absolviert. Dann war er bereit, seinem Baby das erste Lebenszeichen einzuhauchen. Als ein Pionier des Full on in Brasilien ist Bishop mit Proton mittlerweile eine feste Größe in der internationalen Szene. Das erste Artistalbum kam von Alternative Control und manifestierte den musikalischen Fokus des Labels. Inzwischen hat sich dieser erweitert: In Planung befinden sich die Sublabels Electron für Elektro und House

Dazu führt Cristiano eine Agentur namens Main Stream DJs, in der er exklusiv mit Künstlern wie Bamboo Forest oder Gataka zusammenarbeitet. Am 18. Mai soll auf Enigmatic Sound Records in Japan eine von Bishop und Holymen zusammengestellte Compilation erscheinen, dort tourt der Brasilianer derzeit. Danach steht das Album von V-Storm an und die Compilation »Highlights«. Cristiano Guimaraes aka DJ Bishop called Proton to life in 2002 in Belo Horizonte, but it took him another two years to start releasing. Before this Bishop had worked as a promoter, then in 2004 he released his first compilation titled »Positive Prototype« on his own label. Right when Brazil was setting off to become a hotspot of trance Christiano decided to make the first move and went to Europe. He collected lots of impressions and experiences there, brushed up his English and had his first booking on a large international festival. Then he was ready to call his baby to life.

Being one of the pioneers of full on music in Brazil, Proton Records has now evolved into a steady element within the international scene. The first artist album was to be Alternative Control, which set the tone for Bishop and Proton. After various successful releases Bishop now is planning to open the sub labels Electron for electro and house music and Neutron Media which is to concentrate on ambient and chill. In this manner the atom will be complete in its three elements and should form a strong unity in South America’s trance community. Cristiano also runs a booking agency called Main Stream DJs working exclusively with artists such as Bamboo Forest and Gataka. A compilation by Bishop and Holymen is supposed to appear on the 18th of May on Enigmatic Sound in Japan, where Bishop is currently touring. Drops Reflection Th-Tue, 14-19 June / Eichfeld (Austria) In Österreich treibt die psychedelische Kultur in diesem Jahr ganz besonders schöne Blüten. Neben den kleinen, nicht weniger bunten, ist die Alpenrepublik auch um eine große Attraktion reicher geworden. Zu den beiden bisherigen Höhepunkten des österreichischen Sommers gesellt sich Mitte Juni jetzt auch das Drops Reflection Festival mit einem so gewaltigen Line up, wie man es weltweit höchstens bei einer handvoll Partys findet. Stattfinden wird das Ganze in der Nähe von Graz an der slowenischen Grenze. Vorverkaufstickets bekommt Ihr im Mai noch für 65 Euro, im Juni steigt der Preis dann auf 80 Euro, die man auch am Gate bezahlen würde. Das Festival Komitee, bestehend aus Österreichern und Israelis, möchte mit dem Event auch ein deutliches Zeichen gegen Rassismus und Antisemitismus setzen. Für das seelische Gleichgewicht sorgen zusätzlich eine Healing-Area, verschiedene Workshops und ein Kids-Space. Antimo‘s Comic Style Erst 16 Jahre jung ist Antimo Mire aus Rom in Italien, der diesen Monat unser Cover gestaltet hat. Von Kindesbeinen an hatte Antimo wohl stets einen Stift in der Hand und begann im Alter von elf, sich mit Hilfe von Comics das Zeichnen beizubringen. Seine Begabung führte Antimo schon ein Jahr später an die Roman School of Comics, was ihn in Kontakt mit bekannten

Comiczeichnern brachte und, wie er selber sagt, ein äußerst wichtiger Schritt für seine künstlerische Entwicklung war. Als Antimos Eltern ihm das Computerprogramm »Photoshop Elements« schenkten, war das Feuer in ihm für Digitalgrafik entfacht. Only 16 years old is this month’s cover artist Antimo Mire from Rome in Italiy. Since earliest childhood Antimo carried pens in his hands and started to draw at the age of 11, learning from comics. His talent opened the gate to the Roman School of Comics, which had been of extraordinary importance in his artistic experience, as Antimo says, for that allowed him to get in contact with professionals in this field. Antimo became passionate about digital graphics when his parents gave him »Photoshop Elements« software as a gift and ever since no day passed he didn‘t work with it. Artist Sticker Card - Diffus (es) by Björn Olsson Nordische Mythologie und Elfenmärchen standen bei Björn Olsson schon immer hoch im Kurs, der diesen Monat unsere Artist Sticker Card gestaltet hat. In den frühen Werken des 26-Jährigen tummeln sich vor allem Trolle, Feen und Gnome zwischen Pilzen in dunklen, verwunschenen Wäldern. Kein Wunder - der Schwede ist in den Wäldern von Wermland aufgewachsen. Mittlerweile kommen aber auch immer häufiger Drachen und sexy Elfen, aber auch Aliens und futuristische Symbole ins Spiel. Björn benutzt hauptsächlich fluoreszierende Acrylfarben auf Leinwänden, experimentiert aber auch gerne mit Airbrush. Diffus, der heute in Göteburg lebt, fing 1998 an, sich mit Kulissen für Goapartys selbst zu verwirklichen.

Thomas Goebel Praca Als Teil des DaiMeTribe war Thomas Goebel Praca aka DJ Thomas mittendrin, als das Team in São Paulo im Süden Brasiliens 1999 den ersten Trance-Club des Landes öffnete. Seit den späten Neunzgiern hat er dort und in Trancoso (Bahia) bei vielen Partys seine Finger im Spiel gehabt, gerne auf Locations im Dschungel, am Strand oder in den Bergen. Auch das erste brasilianische Trancefestival Celebra Brasil im Jahr 2000 ging auf den DaiMeTribe zurück – und einiges mehr. Thomas hatte sich bereits 1994 mit dem Goavirus infiziert. Begeistert fing er mit dem Auflegen an und beschallt seitdem die brasilianische Szene, doch war stets mit Herz und Seele auch in die Optics involviert. Entscheiden konnte er sich zwischen Deko und DJ-ing nie so ganz. Auf weiteren brasilianischen Events wie Universo

Paralello, Tranceformation und Tribe baute er seinen Bekanntheitsgrad aus und streckte die Fühler auch nach Europa aus. So war Thomas für den Mainfloor der Boom 2006 im Einsatz, für den er mehrere hundert Kilo Lycra mit spezieller Fluorofarbe in gigantische Spiralen verwandelte. Auch in Portugal gab er außerdem seinen Sound zum Besten, den er als »organischen Krach mit schnellem, dickem Bass und deepen Atmosphären« beschreibt. Thomas wird seinen Sommer in Deutschland verbringen, also Augen und Ohren auf! Besides being involved into more Brasilian events like Universo Paralello, Tranceformation and Tribe, he strengthened his high profile beyond the country‘s borders as far as Europe. That way he came to create the main floor ceiling on Boom in 2006, for which he used hundreds of kilos lycra and special fluoro paint to make up the giant spirals. Ein Wochenende beim GOTT

Gathering of the Tribes in Frankfurt am Main Wie zu erwarten, geht ein Wochenende bei(m) GOTT nicht ohne tiefgreifende Erkenntnisse vorüber. Die für mich wichtigste ist dabei gewesen, wie genial es sein kann, sich mit der Welt, dem Leben und den Leuten auf einer Party intensiv zu beschäftigen und nicht einfach nur zu feiern. Das Gathering begann für mich mit einem Workshop zum Thema Pilzzucht – als mushroom homie natürlich ein Pflichttermin. Die nächste Erkenntnis eröffnete sich mir beim Trance-Tanz-Workshop. Als ich nach der ersten Hälfte des Workshops dazustieß, war so viel Energie in den Leuten, dass ich nach wenigen Minuten das Gefühl hatte, mit allen schon einige Tage gemeinsam getanzt zu haben. Und ich fand heraus, dass man mit 50 Freaks genau so gut und ekstatisch zu Beethovens Neunter tanzen kann wie zu einem guten Liveact. Am neugierigsten war ich auf die Podiumsdiskussion, unter anderem mit Dr. Motte und Trauma XP. Leider war

es so, dass dabei außer ein paar Freundschaftsbekundungen zwischen Ex-Loveparade und Fuckparade nicht viel Interessantes passierte. Alles in allem war es eine perfekt organisierte Veranstaltung mit einer so großen Flut an interessanten Gesprächen, Informationen und Vorführungen, dass ich das ganze Heft brauchen würde, um meine Erfahrungen auch nur ansatzweise wiederzugeben. Eine Vielzahl von KünstlerInnen und ReferentInnen aus der ganzen Welt war vertreten, es standen sogar Mitarbeiter zur Verfügung, um deutschsprachige Events zu übersetzen. Alle KünstlerInnen und RednerInnen haben kostenlos auf dem Gathering gespielt oder gearbeitet. Insgesamt waren rund 1000 Leute dort, was leider nicht gereicht hat, um den erhofften Gewinn für die Arbeit mit Kindern im Kosovo zu erwirtschaften. Trotzdem werden nun 500 Euro für dieses Projekt des Vereins Playground zur Verfügung gestellt.

All in all this was a perfectly organised event with such a large range of interesting talks, info s and demonstrations that I would need the entire magazine to even begin to describe my experiences. A large number of artists and speakers were present from throughout the world, there were even workers present to translate German language events. Importantly all artists and speakers played or spoke at the gathering for free. All in all around 1000 people showed up, which unfortunately was not enough to generate the profit that was hoped for, destined working with children in Kosovo. As is to be expected a weekend spent hooking up with the tribe doesn’t pass by without leaving some deep and meaningful impressions. For me personally the most important realisation was how brilliant it is to really open up to the world, life and people at a party, instead of only getting lost in partying. The gathering started with a workshop related to mushroom addiction –as a mushroom homie as must of course. The next realisation hit me at the trance dance workshop. As I joined the participants in the middle of the workshop there was so much energy in them that after a few minutes I had the feeling we had been dancing together for some days. I also discovered that with 50 freaks one can dance ecstatically equally well to Beethoven’s Ninth as to a good live act. I was most curious about the panel discussion, in

Stimmen Sie einem Urintest zu? Wer in die Verkehrskontrolle gerät, fragt sich jedes Mal erneut: Soll ich jetzt zugeben, dass ich etwas gekifft oder genommen habe? Nein! Im deutschen Recht bringt es keine Vorteile, wenn ich dem Beamten, der mich fragt, ob ich etwas geraucht habe, sage: »Ja, aber nur einen Joint.« Ich darf lügen, denn nach unserem Recht muss niemand helfen, sich selbst zu überführen. Das ist ein Verfassungsgrundsatz! Wenn also der Beamte fragt: »Haben Sie vor Fahrantritt Betäubungsmittel genommen?«, lautet die Antwort: »Nein.« Immer häufiger fragen die Beamten dann, ob man einen Urintest machen möchte. Der wird auch in anderen europäischen Ländern angewendet. Wie sollte die Antwort lauten? Auch dazu: »Nein.« Warum? Theo Pütz vom Verein für Drogenpolitik erklärt: »Die Wahrscheinlichkeit, als Cannabis-Konsument überführt zu werden, liegt beim Urintest um ein vielfaches höher als bei einer Blut-Analyse.« Dies hat weitreichende Folgen. Positive Urin-Schnelltests werden an die Führerscheinstelle gemeldet. »Man ist als Cannabis-Konsument aktenkundig. Jeder weitere Nachweis über Konsum – selbst ein wei-

terer positiver Schnelltest – führt zu einem Missbrauchsverdacht, der unter Umständen eine medizinisch-psychologische Untersuchung (MPU) zur Folge hat.« Und diese Untersuchung kostet mehr als 500 Euro. Am Ende kann bei schlechtem Verlauf der MPU auch der Führerschein entzogen werden. Wer härtere Drogen genommen hat, muss den Schnelltest erst recht verweigern! Pütz: »Auch der Nachweis von Substanzen außerhalb von Cannabis im Urin ist bedeutend länger (einige Tage) nachweisbar ist als im Blut (12 bis 24 Stunden).« Folge des Nachweises dieser Substanzen wäre der Ausschluss der Fahreigung – und damit der Führerschein-Entzug für in der Regel ein Jahr! Übrigens: Deutsche Behörden in Süddeutschland versuchen, bei entsprechenden Tatsachen sogar Österreichern die Führerscheine zu entziehen.

Drugs policy activist Theo Pütz explains: »The chances of testing positive as a cannabis user in a urine test are many times higher than through blood testing.« The consequences are far reaching: Positive urine tests are forwarded to the German driving license authorities. Any further indication of consumption, even another positive urine test leads to a suspicion of substance abuse, which in turn can lead to a medical and psychological testing procedure. »This test costs over 500 euros! »Packed and ready« (Morphonic Records) CD

Das zweite Album der Schweizer Andreas Märki und Philip Guillaume aka Blue Vortex ist ihr erstes als Rumble Pack – Trance, der vor Energie und Qualität nur so strotzt und auch bei der Produktion ganz weit vorne ist. Vom Full on ausgehend, bewegt sich die CD hin zu Groove und Melodie. Einfallsreiche Beats, funky Samples und auf den Punkt produzierte Melodien heben sie von der Masse ab. Das ist alles klar israelisch beeinflusst, aber variantenreicher, emotionaler es macht einfach mehr Spaß. Eine runde Sache mit positivem Vibe und einer großen Spanne zwischen megagroovy und Fullpower. Die werde ich oft benutzen! The second album by Swiss guys Andreas Märki and Philip Guillaume aka Blue Vortex is their first one under the name of Rumble Pack - high energy quality trance with advanced production. It starts full on and then morphs into grooves and melodies. Innovative beats, funky samples and to the point melodies raise this above the masses. »The less you freak« (YoYo) CD

Zwei neue Full-On-Freaks aus der stetig wachsenden BNE-Familie sind die beiden Itays, Avraham und Dangur mit Nachnamen. Nach einigen Compilation-Beiträgen nun ihr Debütalbum, und das hat mächtig Drive und Dynamik. Satte 16tel-Basslines, die auf Dauer aber manchmal zu gleich klingen, sowie massive Percussion- und Acid-Einlagen. Natürlich klingt dies wie viele aktuelle Isra-Trance-Produktionen – satte, druckvolle Abfahrten mit schneidigen Samples und flotten Themenwechseln. Nicht wirklich neu, doch zumindest verlieren sich die beiden nicht in allzu ermüdenden Standardprogrammierungen und sind zumindest bei den Samples witzig und

augenzwinkernd. Mit »Spin me round« ist aber doch ein ordentlicher Hitkandidat mit dabei, irgendwie verleiht dieses alte Dead-or-Alive-Thema dem Track einen warmen Hauch Nostalgie. Das ist nicht nur für Freaks. Itay Avraham and Itay Dangur are two new full on freaks from the steadily growing BNE family. After some compilation contributions now comes their debut album which has piles of drive and dynamics. Fat 16th basses, which in the long run sometimes sound too similar, combined with massive percussion and acid injections. Of course it sounds a lot like other current Isra trance productions – full, high power excursions with chopped samples and fast paced changes. Not truly innovative, however at least they don’t get lost into the standard programme and are funny and cheeky in their choice of samples. With »Spin me round« there is a serious hit contender on board, somehow the old Dead-or-Alive theme gives the track a touch of warm nostalgia. Not only for freaks. »Sounded Paratronic« (Trishula) CD

Der Deutsche Oliver Bach aka Olien ist bereits vor seinem Debütalbum in Erscheinung getreten, auf der Compilation »Mechanophobia« bei Trishula. Ich freue mich sehr, dass es auch aus unserem Lande mal etwas Experimentelles zu lauschen gibt. Auf spannende Weise schafft es Oliver, eine Atmosphäre aufzubauen, zu halten und einen mit einem smoothen Ende wieder in die Realität zu entlassen. Eine düstere Spannung mit subtil rollendem Drive, nie überladen, aber mit genügend Elementen bestückt und dennoch hypnotisch genug, um mich zu fesseln. Eigentlich klingt die CD beim ersten Durchlauf gar nicht so spannend, sondern eher sparsam ausgestattet. Wenn man sich jedoch die Zeit nimmt und sich mitreißen lässt auf diese Reise - doch, schon beindruckend! Meine dringende Empfehlung ist, die Scheibe ganz laut oder auf Kopfhörern zu testen, it’s a ride! »Mechanophobia« compilation. I’m very pleased that there’s finally something more experimental to be heard from our country. With much tension he has managed to build up and exciting journey through out the album which ends in a smooth let go back into reality. Dark tension with a subtly rolling drive, never overloaded and decorated with enough elements to hold one’s attention, but also hypnotic enough to fascinate me. In truth the CD doesn’t sound all that exciting at a first listen as he uses his elements sparingly. However when one takes the time and allows one self to go on the journey it’s very impressive. »Dark Skies« (Shaman) CD

Von den beiden Jungs aus der Schweiz hatte ich schon gehört und für mich völlig überraschend flattert da ein Album herein. Der Albumtitel ist irreführend, da mal so überhaupt nichts Düsteres zu vernehmen ist. Eher tragende Flächen, und dies wird einem von Beginn an rübergebracht, die einen soliden Bass nach vorne treiben. Angenehm atmosphärischer Full-On, der eine dreht darauf am Tage durch, für den anderen ist das nachts schon zu viel! In moderater Geschwindigkeit ist der eine oder andere verträumte Track dabei, der durch markante Leads zu überzeugen weiß. Und ich muss mich wundern, hatte ich doch was deutlich Strengeres erwartet. Dennoch ein solides Album, das Liebhaber von warmem, weichen Full-On ganz bestimmt ansprechen wird. I had already heard of these two guys form Switzerland, but was totally surprised when an album popped in from out of nowhere. The album title is misleading as there’s absolutely nothing dark to be heard or seen. The focus lies more on uplifting pads, which is made clear from the very get go, and they are pushed forwards by a solid bass. Pleasant atmospheric full on, some will flip out to it in the day time, for others this it might already be too much even at night. At a modest pace there’s also one or the other drea-

DJ Naya hat dieses Album compiled, eine kleine Leistungsschau der Artists im Umfeld des französischen Labels. Und ein sauber geplanter Trip durch solide Produktionen, der jedoch immer auf der sicheren Seite bleibt und nie die vorgezeichneten Bahnen des Standard-Full-on verlässt. Ausnahmen sind da vielleicht »Into E Magic« von Stereomatic, der das Zeug zum Sommerhit hat, und die Tracks von Shagna vs Phonic Request und Galaktik Waves, die jeweils echte Originalität aufblitzen lassen. Knackige, melodische Fullon-Compilation mit wenigen Höhepunkten. This album was compiled by DJ Naya and showcases some acts that are working with the French label Mahogany. A well put together trip featuring solid productions and good artists, which however stay safely on the trodden path of standard full on. Quantum • »Penetration« (Trancelucent Productions) CD In Kürze soll Gidi Snapirs eigenes Label namens Forplay Records für Furore sorgen, vorab wird dies schon einmal sein drittes Album erledigen. Auch wenn er das Rad nicht neu erfindet, sticht dies doch angenehm aus der aktuellen Masse an belanglosem Trance hervor. Teilweise schon recht progressiv arrangierte 16tel Bässe, die ihren wahren Reiz erst bei runtergepitchtem Tempo zeigen, mit massiver Substanz und strammem Druck treiben ein Feuerwerk an knackigen Percussions in einer selten gehörten Brillanz an. Dazu peitscht die Hihat jeden Track energetisch nach vorne. Bei all dem Druck bleibt immer noch Zeit für knarzige Proggy-Töne, mystische Samples, warme Flächen und leichte Melodieschnipsel sowie manch technoide Anleihe. Nahezu jeder Track funktioniert auf dem Dancefloor. Zum Reinhören empfehlen sich die Tracks 4 und 5. Mein Album des Monats.

Gidi Snapir’s own label Forplay Records should be causing a stir in DJ cases soon, in the meantime this should be taken care of by his third album. Although here the wheel is also not necessarily being reinvented, it pleasantly stands out from the multitude of inconsequential trance. Partially very progressively arranged 16th basses, which reveal their true charm with the bpm pitched down, with massive substance and tight drive push fireworks of snappy percussions with a rarely heard clarity, combined with a hi hat which energetically whips every track on. However with all this power play there’s still time for proggy crunch sounds, mystical samples, warm pads, and light melodic snippets as well as some techno influence. Pretty much every track works on the floor and therefore this is an absolute must buy for every DJ. For a quick listen I recommend tracks 4 and 5. My album of the month. CD 2 trägt dem Psychedelischen mehr Rechnung, nun zieht das Tempo an, und die Grooves werden fordernder. Einige Tracks finden allerdings nicht so recht ihr Thema und können nicht wirklich überzeugen. Anspieltipps: Psytrain und Rocky vs. Galactika. DJs sollten diese CD unbedingt antesten. CD 2 focuses more on the psychedelic element and the tempo rises as the groves become more challenging. However a few of the tracks don’t really succeed in finding their theme and fail to convince. Von den Berliner Jungs Piet Kämpfer und Ralf Dietze steht nun nach der erfolgreichen EP »Orion Sleepers« das Debütalbum an. Mittlerweile haben sie noch etwas an ihren Sound gefeilt, hier und da optimiert, und ihn in einer sehr angenehmen Mischung aus progressiven Beats mit verspielten Trance- und Housefiguren gefunden. Dabei hat dies sehr viel OldschoolGoa-Feeling, besonders der TranceAspekt kommt in den ersten fünf bis sechs Tracks nicht zu kurz, und so eignen sie sich sehr für einen vertrippten Sonntagmorgen. Ab Track 7 kommt dann auch etwas mehr Schwung und Psychedelisches ins Spiel. Insgesamt ein mehr als ordentliches Debüt.

After the successful EP »Orion Sleepers« by Berlin based guys Piet Kämpfer and Ralf Dietze their debut album has now arrived. Bei der »High Times«-Compilation handelt es sich mitnichten um die Vertonung der Biografie von Uschi Obermaier, dies ist der Soundtrack für ein Leben auf dem Dancefloor. Deutschlands Vorzeige-Labelchefs DJ Bim und Alexander Ligowski haben 20 absolute Highlights zusammengemixt und zeigen eindrucksvoll, was man von guten DJs erwarten darf. Eine thematisch sinnvoll auf zwei CDs angeordnete Trackauswahl, zum Einen für den Anfang oder den Morgen einer Party sowie CD 2 für die Primetime der Nacht; ein Spannungsbogen, der sich

aufbaut und bei dem jeder Track den vorherigen toppt. Und natürlich ein mutiges und interessantes Mixing, in dem die Tracks eine verwobene Einheit bilden und man größtenteils gar nicht mehr merkt, welcher Track gerade läuft. Dabei sind natürlich ausschließlich Hits aus aktuellen Alben, gepaart mit Highlights der hauseigenen Compilations, und daran sollten sich viele DJs ein Beispiel nehmen. Das ist mal eine amtliche Visitenkarte. The »High Times« compilation is truly the soundtrack for life on the dance floor. Germany’s label bosses par excellence DJ Bim and Alexander Ligowski have mixed together 20 absolute high lights and impressively show what one can expect from good DJs. Featuring a theme based track selection that makes sense which is spread over two CDs: one for the beginning or the morning time, the second for the prime time of the night. An exciting story which slowly unfolds and where each track tops the previous one, featuring daring and interesting mixes, through which the tracks reach a tightly spun unity in which it’s hard to tell which track is currently playing. Hinter Itaitaiko steckt Itay Berger aus Israel, der bisher meist unter dem Pseudonym Kukan Dub Lagan veröffentlichte. Dieses Album als Progressive Trance zu bezeichnen, wäre ungenau, denn Itaitaiko mischt Elektrohouse und eine deutliche Prise Psy dazu. Sein Debütalbum bewegt sich zwischen groovigen 120 Beats, die man durchaus auch noch als Downbeat bezeichnen könnte, und erreicht Spitzengeschwindigkeiten von fast 142 Beats. Im ersten Stück spürt man noch seine Reggaewurzeln, gepaart

mit Tribalrhythmen und Sambaeinflüssen. Der Einsatz von viel Percussion und ein funkiger Groove geben der CD eine sehr eigene Note, wodurch sie sich deutlich abhebt von den vielen austauschbaren Veröffentlichungen, die zur Zeit erscheinen. Behind Itaitaiko is Itay Berger from Israel who until now has mostly released under the pseudonym of Kukan Dub Lagan. To call this album progressive trance would surely not be fitting as Itaitaiko mixes it up with electro house and a serious pinch of psy. His debut album spans everything from 120 bpm, which could easily still be named downbeat, to maximum speed at almost 142 bpm.

In the first track one can still feel that Itay‘s roots lay in reggae, here paired up with tribal rhythms and samba. The use of many percussive elements and a funky groove give the CD a very original note and it clearly stands apart from the many exchangeable releases which are appearing at this moment. Flooting Grooves ist Pearce van der Merwe, der in Kapstadt in Südafrika geboren wurde und mit dieser CD ein wahres Meisterwerk des Chillout abliefert. Sphärische Klangteppiche, auf denen Flötenmelodien ruhen und dem Leben die Eile nehmen. Die Flöte scheint das Lieblingsinstrument von Pearce zu sein, bei seinen Auftritten spielt er sie auch gerne live. Psy-Dub der Extraklasse mit einem extrem hohen Shpongle-Faktor. »Upsyde Downe« ist eine sehr gelungene Mischung aus Ethno-Beats und Cyberchill, eine psychedelische Reise - vertrippt und sehr organisch zugleich. Für mich schon das vielleicht beste Chillout-Album dieses Jahres. Flooting Grooves is Pearce van der Merwe who was born in Cape Town,

South Africa, and who with this CD delivers a true masterpiece of chill out. Flute lines rest on atmospheric sound scapes and take the hastiness out of life. The flute seems to be the favourite instrument of Pearce, he also likes to play it during his live performances. Psy dub in the finest tradition and with a high Shpongle factor, »Upsyde Downe« is a very successful mix of ethno beats and cyber chill, a psychedelic journey, trippy and organic at the same time. Kukan Dub Lagan und der Name ist Programm. Die Chiller unter Euch, die eine gewisse Affinität zu Reggae und Dub haben, werden diese CD sicher lieben. Schon sein erstes Album auf Candyflip Records ist für mich dermaßen faszinierend, dass ich ein paar Stücke immer noch spiele. Die Bandbreite reicht von deep chillig bis zu melodischem Downbeat, fein angereichert mit elektronischen Studioeffekten. Vor meinem geistigen Auge sitzt immer ein Rastafari, der dazu trommelt. Beim Hören der CD fühle ich mich wie in einer Hängematte am Strand von Jamaika, haben einen großen Fruchtcocktail in der Hand und die Luft riecht nach Gras. Psy-chill-free-dub from Israel. who have a liking for reggae and dub will surely love this CD. I already found his first album on Candyflip Records so good that to this day I still play some of its tracks. The bandwidth spans deeply chilled to melodic downbeat, finely juiced up with studio effects. To my mind’s eye a Rasta is always playing a drum along with it. Pete Namlook & Bill Laswell »Outland 5« (FAX) 2CD

Die mittlerweile fünfte Scheibe der Serie »Outland« der beiden Klangmagier Laswell und Namlook setzt eine Reihe von Science-Fiction-Sounds und Experimenten fort, die schwer in eine Schublade zu packen sind. Die erste »Outland« war ja gänzlich ohne Beats und sehr meditativ, das kann man von der Scheibe hier gar nicht sagen. Jedes Stück ist anders und mal dominiert Laswells Bassarbeit, dann stehen Namlooks Blubberklänge im Vordergrund und natürlich auch die charakteristischen experimentellen, elektronisch-minimalen Sounds, übrigens auf beiden CDs sowohl auf 5.1. als auch in Stereo. Interessant, aber - wie angesichts des hohen FAX-Outputs üblich - auch ein bisschen am Fließband produziert. This is already the fifth disc in the »Outland« series by sound magicians Laswell und Namlook, and they continue a journey of science fiction and experimental sounds that is hard to categorise. The first Outland was very meditative and completely beat free, which can‘t be said about the disc in question here. Every track is different, sometimes Laswell‘s bass work predominates, then Namlook‘s bubbly sounds. Of course at other times the characteristic experimental electric minimal sounds dominate. All of this is presented on 2 CDs, both in 5.1 surround as well as in stereo. Interesting, but as is often the case with the high FAX output also a bit of an assembly belt production. »Raindance« (Blue Flame) CD

Red Buddhas drittes Werk entfernt sich ein kleines Stück von den rein asiatischen Wurzeln und erweitert sich, wie das Cover auch schon zeigt, durch geschickt eingewobene, genial perkussive afrikanische wie auch arabische (Sufi-) Sounds. Der manchmal leicht jazzige Fusionstyle mit ordentlich Wumms zieht sich filigran, perfekt produziert durch die gesamte Scheibe und vermag es, mich gänzlich zu überzeugen. Für mich die Scheibe des Monats. Red Buddha‘s third work distances itself a little from its pure Asian roots and expands, as shown on the cover, by clever use of brilliant African percussions as well as Arab (Sufi) sounds. The at times slightly jazzy fusion style with plenty of power, and a perfect production throughout the entire disc, manages to wholly convince me. The CD of the month for me. Der silberglänzende Airstream-Anhänger wird grad auf Hochglanz poliert, der erste Termin ist schließlich wieder der G-Move in Kiel, diesmal am Samstag, 19. Mai. Der Grasweg wird erneut als einziger Wagen mit Psytrance-Beschallung das Ende des Umzugs markieren, DJs sind unter anderem Alpha, Sid Gautama, Kobold und Liese. Nachdem im letzten Jahr ungefähr 40.000 Menschen beim Umzug waren, erwarten die Veranstalter in diesem Jahr doppelt so viele.

Psyradio Alternative and Oldschool Kaum waren neben dem Progressive Channel die Psy- und Chill-Streams installiert, folgte der Alternative Channel und machte damit die PsyradioFamilie komplett. Mit Techno, Electro, Minimal und House in vielen Variationen weht aus dem neuesten Kanal frischer Wind aus anderen Richtungen, der auch immer mehr Events der Psytrance-Szene erreicht. Zwei weitere Retronächte, Freitag und Samstag, 11./12. Mai, stehen unter dem Motto »Oldschool«. Ein Wochenende lang kannst Du in alten Feiererinnerungen schwelgen. Freitag von 20 Uhr bis 2 Uhr nachts gibt‘s auf dem Psychedelic Channel Goa-Kracher von damals zu hören, Samstag von 20 Uhr bis 2 Uhr auf dem Alternative Channel einen Ausflug in die Anfangstage der Technokultur.

Immediately after the psy and chill streams were installed alongside the progressive channel, the alternative channel was launched to complete the Psyradio family. Featuring techno, electro, and minimal house in many variations a new vibe resounds, which is also increasingly reaching events in the psytrance scene. After the short term idea to do the first retro night recently, the 11th and 12th of May are fully dedicated to the »Old school« theme . This weekend you can bask in the glory of your old party memories. From Friday 20 until 2 in the night you can hear old goa hits on the psychedelic channel. On Saturday between 20 and 2 at night there will be an excursion to the beginnings of techno culture on the alternative channel. (mat)

Goabase Cooperation

Künftig werden wir es Veranstaltern durch eine Kooperation mit der Goabase einfacher machen, ihre Events online einzupflegen. Die Partyinfos brauchen dann nur noch in der Goabase eingegeben zu werden, wo man sie jederzeit selbst ändern kann. Natürlich kann man dann wählen, ob die Daten auch bei uns erscheinen sollen. Ab nächsten Monat sind dann auch Partys im mushroom microplan gelistet, die nur in der Goabase eingegeben wurden. In the future we plan to make life easier for event organisers through a cooperation with Goabase. Party infos now only need to be entered there, where you can edit them as well. If you want the info to reach mushroom there soon will be an according function in the Goabase form. Starting next month on parties entered at Goabase will also be listed in the mushroom microplan. 10 years ago - mushroom magazine May 1997 »Metamorphosis« hieß die Party zum dritten Geburtstag des mushrooms im legendären Hamburger Gaswerk, die wir zusammen mit dem damaligen Live Act Neuwerk veranstalteten. Im Anschluss an den Hamburger G-Move fuhr der Psytrance-Truck in voller Montur in die kleine Halle des Gaswerks und beschallte den Second Floor, während es Goa Gil in der großen Halle richtig krachen ließ. In Köln startete am 1. Mai 1997 mit evosonic das wohl interessanteste deutsche Radioprojekt für elektronische Undergroundtanzkultur, das leider bereits zwei Jahre später wegen Geldproblemen den Sendebetrieb einstellen musste. Thorsten Mesrines Sendungen »Paradise FM« und »Fluffy Ambient Garden« waren für viele Psytrancer mit Kabelanschluss damals die perfekte Sonntagabendbeschallung. Wir interviewten im Mai vor zehn Jahren Volker Brunswick zu diesem Radioprojekt. Er war und ist einer der Psytrance-Pioniere des Ruhrgebietes. Weitere Themen im mushroom waren unter anderem X-Dream, Yello und die Fadenkünstler Toxic Space.

Following from Hamburg‘s G-Move the psytrance truck with full fittings drove into the small hall and blasted the second floor while Goa Gil was rocking the main floor. Thorsten Mesrine‘s shows »Paradise FM« and »Fluffy Ambient Garden« were then the perfect Sunday evening come down for many Psytrancers who were connected to cable radio. In May 1997 we also interviewed Volker Brunswick about his radio project, one of the psytrance pioneers of the west german Ruhr area.
