Hello and Goodbye Der 31. Mai 1994 war der Erscheinungs– tag des ersten mushrooms, mit dieser Ausgabe feiern wir also unseren 13. Geburtstag. Der 31. Mai wird aber auch als Abschiedstag in unsere Geschichte eingehen, unser langjähriger Weggefährte und Redaktionsleiter Claus zieht weiter in neue Abenteuer. Wir bedanken uns für fast fünf Jahre engagierte Mitarbeit am mushroom und drugstore (2003) sowie am Trancer‘s Guide To The Galaxy. Mit seinem Engagement haben wir in dieser Zeit auch den Sprung vom rein deutschsprachigen zum durchgehend zweisprachigen internationalen Magazin vollzogen. Durch die bereits im letzten Heft erwähnte Zusammenarbeit mit der Goabase sind wir gerade im entscheidenden Schritt der Zusammenführung unserer Partydaten. In der Goabase eingetragene Partys landen nun auf Wunsch automatisch im mushroom magazine. Der im letzten Heft gestartete Trance Producer Contest läuft sehr erfolgreich an. Wir haben beschlossen, den Einsendeschluss noch um einen Monat auf den 31. Juli zu verschieben. www.mushroom-online.com/contest

The 31st of May 1994 was the publication day of the first mushroom, with the appearance of this issue we are celebrating our 13th birthday. The 31st of May will however also be a farewell day in the history of our magazine as our long term companion and editorial staff coordinator Claus is moving onto a new adventure. We would like to express our gratitude for five years of dedicated work on mushroom and drugstore (2003) as well as the Trancer‘s Guide To The Galaxy. With his support we also succeeded in making the leap from a German only publication to a monthly bi lingual magazine. In the last issue we mentioned our cooperation with Goabase. We are now at the decisive step of joining our data banks. Parties added to Goabase are now entered into mushroom magazine automatically if desired. Agitato 1997, Israel, damals »Hotspot« des sogenannten »Goatrance«. Eliad Grundland, besser bekannt als Space Buddha, gründet Agitato Records. Das Label wurde im Laufe der Jahre zu einem Garant für Releases von Artists, die mit ihrer Kreativität, ihren Visionen und ihrem Sound den »Goatrance« nachhaltig beeinflusst haben. Seit der Gründung ist Agitato Records dem pure psychedelic Goa trance style treu geblieben – der sogenannte »Goa Trance« hingegen hat parallel dazu viele unterschiedliche Entwicklungen durchlaufen. Die Namen der Agitato-Artists lesen sich wie ein »Best Of«: Beat Hackers, Counterpoint, Cyber Cartel, Opium of the Masses, Space Buddha, Space Monkey, Spinal Chord and Toast3d. Agitato Records was founded in 1997, Israel, the centre of the Goa trance style scene at the time by Eliad Grundland, better known as Space Buddha, who is still managing this label. In the course of the years Agitato Records has focused on producing and promoting the psychedelic stream by creating a great variety of artists and projects who had contributed their creativity, visions and sound to this culture. Since its foundation, Agitato Records had captured the pure psychedelic goa trance style in every project. During the years Goa trance had switched so many levels, but in spite of this psy development, all Agitato Records releases kept the original psychedelic Goa style sound. Im Laufe der Jahre lernte er die »Realität« auf den Full- On-Dancefloor s aktiv kennen – welweit rockte er bereits die Massen mit seinem energiegeladenen Sound und dem für ihn typischen Drive. Space Buddha ist bekannt für seine einzigartigen Interpretationen des Psytrance immer wieder gelingt, neue , wodurch es ihm Standards zu setzen. Eliad ist auch als Indica beka nnt. Cyber Cartel aka Intergalac tic (Vic Shefi, 26) macht seit 1998 auf Trance-Events Musik und produziert hauptsächlich Psychedelic Trance, aber auch experimentelle Klänge. Typisch für seine Projekte sind kraftvolle Rhythmen und Grooves sowi e genial miteinander verbunde ne psy-harmonische Tonfolgen – das Ergebnis ist Trance vom Feinsten. Sein Debütalbum erschien im November 2002, auf das zweite Album dürfen wir uns noch 2007 freuen – es wird bald nach der Opiu m of the Masses-CD mit Space Buddha erscheinen. Vom israelischen Duo Ezra Arangi und Eyal Arbuz (beide 28) Toast3d wurden im Tracks auf verschiedenen Com Vorjahr mehrere Mai 2006 erschien die Singl pilations released, im e »One«, ihr Debütalbum ist für August 2007 geplant. Der Drive in ihren Tracks ist der Herzschlag, die Power im Hintergrund bring t das ren. Inspired Sound from the Beginning Bitte gib‘ einen kurzen Einblick in Deine Vita, Dein Alter, woher kommst Du, warum machst Du Musik, wie bist Du in die Szene gekommen, warum produzierst Du jetzt? Ich bin 32 Jahre alt, geboren in Equador, habe in Chile und den Niederlanden gelebt, bevor ich vor sechs Jahren nach Hamburg kam. Musik ist immer Teil meines Lebens gewesen, aber meine Faszination für Trance begann auf Ibiza auf frühen Outdoor-Partys. Ich mache Musik, weil ich glaube, dass es der beste Weg menschlicher Kommunikation ohne die Barrieren der Sprache ist. Du hast in unglaublich kurzer Zeit heftige Entwicklungssprünge gemacht. Wie hast Du das hinbekommen? »Homage to RA Moog« war ein Durchbruch für mich, jedes Detail des Tracks war in meinem Kopf

bereits vom Anfang an vorhanden, ich musste es nur in meinen Sequenzer bringen. Es wurde immer wichtiger für mich, nach meinen eigenen Standards zu arbeiten. Ich produziere, um einen Teil von mir Selbst auszudrücken; mit der Zeit habe ich gelernt, dem auch zu vertrauen. Auf der technischen Seite denke ich, Produktion und Arrangement gehören zu den Dingen, die mit der Erfahrung besser werden. Mit welchem Equipment, welcer Software arbeitest Du? Ich arbeite mit Cubase, Ableton, Melodyne, analogen Synthesizern und Lautsprechern, die ich kenne und denen ich vertraue. Ich habe festgestellt, dass es wichtig ist, schnell produzieren zu können, um den Fokus auf Inspiration und Fluss zu halten – und nicht auf technischem Prozedere. Es ist möglich, Musik, die Menschen zu berühren

versteht, allein auf einem Laptop mit einem Kopfhörer zu produzieren. Der wichtigste Faktor ist, aus welchem Space die Musik kommt. Dein erstes Album ist fertig, teilweise sehr schnell, es erreicht FullOn-Geschwindigkeiten. Wie siehst Du jetzt Dein Album und Dich selbst? Ich weiß nie, wohin die Musik mich treiben wird, von klassischen Sachen bis zu FullOn ist dabei bisher schon einiges herausgekommen. Ich glaube nicht an Musiker als wahre Urheber ihrer Kunst. Ich glaube, sie drücken nur etwas aus, das sie empfangen, wie aus einem anderen Space. Wenn die Inspiration kommt, versuche ich immer, ihr schnellstens nachzugeben und mich in ihr zu vergessen. Please tell us something about you and your way. I’m 32 years old. I’m born in Ecuador and lived in Chile and the Netherlands before coming to Hamburg 6 years ago. Music has always been a part of my life, but my fascination with trance started in Ibiza’s early outdoor days. I make music because I believe it is the best way to communicate without the boundaries language imposes. In a really short period of time you have made massive steps in your production quality. How did you manage this? »Homage to RA Moog« was a break through for me – every detail was in my head right from the start, all that was left to do was get it into the sequencer. It has become increasingly important for me to work to my own standards. I produce to express something in my being and with time I’ve learned to trust that. On the technical side I think production and arranging are things one gets better at with experience. What kind of gear do you work with, your equipment, your software?

I work with Cubase, Ableton, Melodyne, analogue synths and crucially monitors I know and trust. I realised it’s essential to be able to make sounds quickly and focus on inspiration and flow, not technicalities. It’s possible to write music that touches people on a laptop and headphones, the most important factor is from what space it comes. Your first album is done, it‘s fast and enters fullon speeds, how do you feel with yourself and your album now? I never know where music will take me so I end up making everything from classical to full on. I don’t believe in musicians as true originators of their art, I believe musicians are expressing something beyond them, and when inspiration strikes I try to forget myself asap. You can listen to your first tracks on Avatar, Wakyo, Midijum, Y.S.E./Millennium, and Synergetic. Where will your album be released? I’m glad to say »Movements Of Consciousness« will be released in July on Y.S.E./Millennium. Alex is a smart guy and runs his business in a way I can relate to, I think we’re both obsessive workaholics ;-) Your contacts in the festival scene are good, you are stage manager at several festivals. Cosm: Hamburg in Psy Obwohl es als eine der Geburtsstätten des Psytrance gelten kann, stand Hamburg die letzten Jahre fast ausschließlich für den urbaneren Off-beat-Proggy der norddeutschen Clubs. Jetzt setzt mit Cosm Records ein neues Hamburger Psytrance-Label von internationalem Format kickenden Open-Air-Sound mit Charakter dagegen. Die vier Labelheads gehen auf ihrer soeben erschienenen ersten Compilation »Cosmology« mit gutem Beispiel voran. Mit Künstlern wie Audiotope, Oddsono oder Digipack stehen sie für einen Sound, der nicht durch standardisierte Schredder-Formeln, sondern durch Atmosphäre und Abwechslung psychedelisch ist. Dabei sind gerade Vielfalt und Berührungen mit anderen Sti-

len wie Psy-Breaks oder Acid-Tech gewolltes Statement. Für dieses Jahr sind bereits weitere Veröffentlichungen in Vorbereitung, so wird noch diesen Sommer eine Compilation mit funky Sunshine-Psy erscheinen, auf die man schon sehr gespannt sein darf.

Although being considered as one of the birthplaces of psytrance, in recent years Hamburg has been standing almost

exclusively for the more urban offbeat progressive sound of the north German clubs. Cosm Records, a fresh Hamburg label of international format is now approaching with kicking openair psytrance with substance. With artists like Audiotope, Oddsono and Digipack they stand for music that is psychedelic by atmosphere and variety, fusing psytrance with styles like psy-breaks or acid-tech. Their first various artist compilation »Cosmology« is already stirring up the hunger for more. Further releases are in the pipeline for this year: a compilation featuring funky sunshine psy is announced Liese for later this summer. www.cosmrecords.com

Gappeq Seit längerem hat Jiri Tomasek, besser bekannt als Gappeq, das Privileg, auf den Samplern aus dem Hause Ketuh Records stets als erster Artist zu erscheinen. Sein Sound ist so anders, gefühlvoll und doch technoid – und durchaus psychedelisch. Der sympathische Tscheche, derzeit in audiotechnischer Ausbildung in Australien ansässig, vereint ins einen Tracks seinen musikalischen Backround von Kind auf und ein Gefühl für Harmonie und Emotionen, ohne wirklich melodiös zu klingen. Jiris so liebevolle Umschreibung von Psytrance und der Szene beschreibt es wohl am besten was die meisten von uns empfinden manche wohl auch vermissen:

News G-8-Demo: 2. Juni Im Vorfeld des G8-Gipfels in Heiligendamm an der Ostseeküste vom 6. bis 8. Juni haben die deutschen Behörden mit Großrazzia und Einschränkungen des Demonstrationsrechts zwar versucht, die Protestbewegung zu kriminalisieren. Scheinbar motiviert das aber nur umso mehr Leute, wenigstens zur großen Demo am Samstag, 2. Juni, in Rostock zu fahren. Auch eine kleine Abordnung der mushroom-Familie hat sich schon die Bustickets für die Reise besorgt, auch wenn die Demo weit von den selbst ernannten Führern der Welt weg gehalten wird. August Während die Loveparade auf der Suche nach einer neuen Heimat immer noch durch den deutschen Blätterwald marodiert, plant die Fuckparade ihre Demo »für Subkulturen, gegen Drogenhysterie, Repression durch Behörden und Polizeigewalt« in Berlin für Samstag, 18. August. Im Mai hat das Bundesverwaltungsgericht dem Team außerdem in einem jahrelangen Streit Recht gegeben: Die Fuckparade 2001 hätte auch in der eigentlich geplanten Form ohne Redebeiträge den Demonstrations-Status zugesprochen kriegen müssen. Synergy in London Die Welt retten – ... irgendjemand? Über dieser Frage hat sicherlich jeder schon einmal nachgedacht, auch diejenigen, denen sonst immer alles egal ist. All denen, die daran glauben, dass das Leben, wie wir es kennen, noch eine Chance auf diesem Planeten verdient hat, kommt sicher als Erstes in den Sinn, die Wahrnehmung der Masse zu schärfen. Doch wie? Bei den Menschen in den Entwicklungsländern, die auf falsche Versprechen von materiellem Wohlstand konzentriert sind, und uns in den Industriestaaten, die wir liebend gerne aus der künstlich geschaffenen Welt um uns herum flüchten, ist es oft schwer, Begeisterung zu entfachen oder gar die Umsetzung eines sozial bewussteren Lebensstils zu bewirken. Seit seinem Start im März 2003 in London verfolgt das Synergy Projekt einen viel versprechenden Ansatz. Ein entscheidender Faktor ist, dass keine Einzelorganisation dahintersteckt, sondern sich alles aus den Bemühungen mehrere Gruppen zusammensetzt. Bei den Synergy Nights stehen verschiedenste Arten von Musik auf dem Programm: Psy, Breaks, Rock, Chill, Drum `n‘ Bass sowie Welt- und Folkmusik. Besuchern bietet sich somit nicht nur die Möglichkeit, mal was anderes zu hören, sondern auch zu verstehen, dass nicht Dein Musikgeschmack, sondern Deine Mentalität das Leben bestimmt, das Du lebst. Abgerundet werden diese Partys durch Vorträge zu aktuellen Themen (zuletzt über den Klimawandel). Desweiteren gibt es Infostände, die von verschiedensten NGOs betreut werden – wie Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace oder Oxfam. Obwohl es fast wie ein frommer Wunsch erscheint, dass Gäste sich nach dem Feiern an solche Inhalte zu erinnern vermögen, war ich erstaunt darüber, dass bei meinem Besuch kaum jemand verpeilt rumlief und ich

sogar kluge Antworten erhielt. Neben den Möglichkeiten, in einen Fotokurs hineinzuschnuppern oder jonglieren zu lernen, stand auch ein Künstler in der Galerie Rede und Antwort. Insgesamt gesehen, bot diese Nacht eine wirklich stimulierende Umgebung voller netter Menschen, um Neues zu lernen, auszuprobieren und zu diskutieren. Aber diese Nächte sind noch nicht alles. Im September 2005 hatte das Projekt den ersten großen Meilenstein erreicht: in einem ehemaligen Lagerhaus in London eröffnete das Synergy Zentrum. Obwohl es mittlerweile getrennt von den Synergy Events koordiniert wird, war dieses Zentrum ursprünglich als eine Basis gedacht, um von dort aus die vielen Ideen und Fähigkeiten, die den Projektnächten entspringen, in den Alltag zu integrieren. Auf regelmäßiger Basis werden im Zentrum nun diverse Kurse angeboten, zum Beispiel Tommeln, Capoeira, Jonglieren, Yoga, Tai Chi – und es ist genug Platz für vieles, vieles mehr! Die Synergy-Gemeinschaft wächst konstant. Wenn man sich vor Augen hält, wie viel Anstrengung die beiden Direktoren Dominik Schnell und Gianni Fabricio hineingesteckt haben und einen Blick auf die vielen anstehenden Events und Projekte wirft, sieht die Zukunft sehr rosig aus. Zwar finden momentan aufgrund einer Sommerpause keine Projektnächte statt, doch finden Interessierte auf der Website Ansprechpartner und Termine.

How to save the world? ... Anyone? Many will have thoughts on the subject, even if they’re »Why bother?«, but for those that believe that Life as we know it still stands a chance on this planet, educating the masses probably comes into our strategy somewhere. But how? With people in developing countries focused on the false promise of material happiness and those in developed countries spending their lives escaping the artificial realities around them, it’s often difficult to find anyone willing to learn about, let alone practice, a more socially conscious lifestyle. Since it started in March 2003, the Synergy Project has taken a very accommodating approach to (re)education. To begin with, it is not a single organisation as such, but rather a team effort between several groups. The night hosts a variety of different music including Psy, Breaks, Rock, Chill, D&B and different kinds of world and folk music which not only gives visitors the opportunity to enjoy something different, but shows those that feel »We’re the only ones who care.« that its mentality and not music that defines the Life you lead. There are also speakers hosting discussions on current issues (the last was global warming) as well as info stands run by NGO’s like Friends of the Earth, Greenpeace and Oxfam and although it might seem optimistic to expect guests at most single-night events to remember anything educational, I was happy

to see that very few people looked wasted and that those I spoke to were able to talk coherently back to me. Alongside a class in portraiture and the chance to learn to juggle or speak to one of the artists with work in the gallery, the night provided a genuinely stimulating environment in which to learn and discuss ideas and skills with new and friendly faces. But it doesn’t stop there. In September 2005, the first of the Synergy Project’s main targets was achieved: a former warehouse was opened as the Synergy Centre. Although now run separately to the Synergy Project events, the centre was set up as a permanent base from which many of the ideas and skills seen at the Project nights could be introduced into everyday Life. It regularly holds classes in drumming, Capoiera, juggling, Yoga and Tai Chi and has enough large spaces for much, much more. The Synergy community is constantly expanding and having seen how much effort directors Dominik Schnell and Gianni Fabricio put into it and how many other events and projects they seem to be involved in, the future looks promising. Dies ist Alien Project, wie es besser nicht geht. Satt, stramm, Trommelwirbel, cut und zack - schmerzfrei auf die Zwölf. Ari Linker entspricht damit in etwa Dieter Bohlens Konzept von Modern Talking, fern jeden Intellekts ein zu durchsichtiges Produkt aus technischer Qualität, allzu naheliegenden Harmoniesprüngen, konzipierter Euphorie und ravig naiver Plattheit zu schaffen, zugegebenermaßen funktional, aber so seelenlos auf die Spitze getrieben, dass es schon weh tut. Es ist einfach schrecklich, wenn jemand mit solchen technischen Möglichkeiten derart inhaltsfreie Discomusik als Drogenbegleitprogramm in die psychedelische Welt pumpt und die Floors dieser Welt blockiert, weil irgendwelche DJ-Kapeiken denken, das Volk sei so dumm, sowas hören zu wollen. Wir sind nicht auf der Kirmes, das haben wir nicht verdient. Wir wollen Freiheit und Erneuerung. This is Alien Project at its best. Fatness, tension, a drum roll, then cut and bam – it all comes down to the point. With this record in some ways Ari Linker uses the concept Dieter Bohlen applied to Modern Talking: make an overly transparent product free of any intellect, based on technical skill, predictable harmonic changes, conceptualised euphoria and naïve ravey superficiality, which although admittedly functional, has been so soullessly tuned to perfection, that it starts to hurt. It’s simply awful when someone with such technical capabilities pumps such substance free disco music out into the psychedelic world as a drug accompaniment campaign, and blocks the floors of the world because some DJs might believe people are too dumb to want something different. Willst Du Punkrock hören, such‘ dir eine gute englische oder amerikanische PunkrockBand. Willst Du doch noch unbedingt Infected hören, hol‘ Dir ne alte Platte aus‘m Regal. The new album by Erez and Duvdev is a wonderful, almost overwhelmingly honest proof for the loss of creativity due to self overestimation, big headed ness and vanity. These guys seriously think the world has been waiting for the invention of punk rock by Infected Mushroom. I’m completely dazzled to understand how after their self declared standard as the »best trance band in the world« they can produce such regressive garbage. If you want to hear punk rock, find a good English or American punk rock band. If you still want to listen to Infected at any cost, pull an old record from the display. Trotz durchaus netter Ansätze verfällt dieses Debüt leider oft in übliche Muster israelischer Trancebaupläne. Das Album läuft geschlossen um 145 Sachen herum, der letzte Track soll eine 130er (Electro-) House-Nummer sein, doch das ist definitiv nicht sein Ding. Eliran ist also noch etwas grün hinter den Ohren, hat aber Talent; hoffen wir auf ein besseres zweites Album. Despite many nice intros, this debut unfortunately often relapses into the usual patterns of Israeli trance schemes. The album runs at close to 145 bpm throughout. Immer mal wieder besticht er durch wunderbar aufgebautes Chaos, aus dem ein schräg naiver Sound kriecht. So was muss zu Doof, denn es hat diesen fetten Schub, den wunderbar schrägen und ausgefeilt hypnotischen Touch, den man nur aus dem israelischen Untergund kennt. Ganz fett! Avi Sakorka starts off his debut restrained, but nevertheless Cactus’ hypnotic craziness can already be heard. Building up his own universe, diving deeper – and at »Pee on Tree« you are full with it. Catching one’s ear is his intransigent chaos, birthing freaky naive sounds. Ihre mit Einflüssen aus Techno und Breakbeat gemischte Trance-MetalFusion ist auch diesmal wieder ein Garant für Peaktime-Granaten. Mit »The Beast Within« wird direkt mit dem Hitkandidaten losgelegt, der als einziger alle oben genannten Attribute in sich vereinigt. Die folgenden zwei Tracks sind stramme und treibende Abfahrten, denen man sich schwer entziehen kann. Mit Track 5, 6 und 9 zeigen die beiden, dass sie aber auch mehr drauf haben als geilen Druck, dies ist psychedelischer Sound, wie er sein sollte, uplifting und verspielt mit schicken Melodien. Düster wie melodisch, mit manchmal fast oldschooligen Ansätzen, aber viel fetterem Schub als damals.Respect! Helicon Sound System is an underground label from Athens, which shows quite potential with their first release. Many of the artists are unfamiliar to me, only CymazZ or Dark Elf have known names – and deliver the best contribution to this CD. Dieses Projekt ist ein Treffen zweier bekannter Gesellen, DJ Miko und Roy Sela aus Israel. Das Doppelalbum der beiden enthält eine crunchige Full-OnCD mit ein paar oldschooligen Elementen auf knackigen Beats, ohne melodisch auszuflippen. Nicht ganz, wie

man Miko mit X-Wave kennt, eher verhaltener. Viel interessanter jedoch ist die zweite CD, die mit einer Reise duch die elektronische Welt der Musik aufwartet. Auch eine Sängerin haben sie mit dabei - wenn man es mag. Mich hat eher die geschickte Zusammensetzung von Downbeat, Chill und Eletronica fasziniert; schade, dass es so schnell schon vorbei war. Nichts wirklich Auffälliges, aber wahrscheinlich deswegen so schön anzuhören. For this project two well-known companions came together, DJ Miko und Roy Sela aus Israel. The double album starts off with a crunchy full on CD, serving oldschool elements on a firm beat. Considerably more interesting is the second CD which presents an interesting journey through the electronic world of music. Penta opens this deeply psychedelic experience, Digitalist from Switzerland with Gidra from India deliver a lysergic hit soon after. Vasko aka Encephalopaticys also approaches things in a highly psychedelic manner. His Macedonian friends Atriohm are also on board, and as an encore Attoya and Darknoizz join a truly excellent line up. Kompromislos hat Dica eine dem Label gerecht werdende Zusammenstellung geformt, die den Doof-Stil von Beginn an vertritt. Neben wohlbekannten Dooflern wie REV oder Entropy widmet sich Dica meist möglichen Stars von morgen. Orca aus Israel oder Illegal Machines sind nur zwei der vertretenen Künstler, von denen man noch viel hören sollte. Natürlich trägt diese CD den fetten Markenstempel des crunchy Acidpsy, ein seltener Lichtblick am psychedelischen Himmel, auch wenn die Namen darauf nicht so hell strahlen. DJ Dica with a new compilation from Israel. Without accepting any compromises, as can be expected, Dica has managed to find a mix which describes the style for which Doof has stood from the beginning very well, the special crunchy acid psy. Die Faerie-Dragon-Labelgruppe schickt sich an, einiges von einst aus dem Hause Freakdance Records zu re-releasen. So kommen diesen Monat zwei alte Alben finnischer Künstler zurück in die Shops. Oskari Nuotio hatte sein Debütalbum 2004 bei Freakdance herausgebracht. Nur in einer sehr limitierten Auflage zu erhalten, war es schnell vergriffen. Die Freunde des funky Psychedelic Trance werden hoch erfreut sein, ob der Frische und positiven Energien, die diese Musik ausstrahlt. Wieder gilt, was für die meisten FullOnCDs aus dem Heilgen Land derzeit gängig ist: aus teilweise durchaus interessanten Intros entsteht nicht viel mehr als das bekannte, lustlose und dennoch überdosiert aktionistische Aerobic-Programm israelischer Provenienz. Zum Ende wird‘s besser, Ananda Shake servieren mit »Clipper« tatsächlich eine stimmige Geschichte, und Elmar Ivatarov hat als Spade mit »Lucky Number Seven« sogar eine spannende ElectroFullOn-Fusion parat. Mangelnde Individualität in Struktur und Klang – kommt in etwa wie abgekupferter Isra-FullOn, mit etwas mehr Acid, dazu etwas rougher und weniger clean in der Produktion. Auch bei der dritten Veröffentlichung bleibt Labelchef DJ Tomtron seinem progressiven Style treu. Acht Tracks mit Groove und Wärme sowie einigen elektronischen Gimmicks und Knarzern. With his third release label head DJ Tomtron maintains his progressive style. 8 Tracks for those times when you only need groove, warmth and a few electronic gimmicks and crunchies. The first two tracks are cool: Patrick Sonderegger of Paste with his solo project featuring a fluffy trance-crunch track, and Audio Junkies with a long break in funky 80s disco style. Human Traffic sind Mapusa und Stephan aka Golkonda; ohne Zweifel ziemlich feine und mit recht prominente Jungs, doch habe ich von beiden in anderen Kombinationen schon weit Besseres gehört. Nichts gegen den elektroiden Ansatz, aber so zäh, passiv, durchsichtig und auch unsexuell sollte Musik nicht sein. Das Album klingt, wie nicht wirklich zu Ende produziert. Human Traffic consists of Mapusa and Stephan aka Golkonda; without a doubt good guys who deserve their prominent status. However I’ve heard far better music from each of them when working in different contexts. This is in no way an objection to the electro-y vibe of the album; however music shouldn’t be this tough, passive, transparent and unsexual. Udopea Hamburg – direkt in der Schanze Seit zwölf Jahren sorgt der Udopea Headshop in der Schanzenstraße 95 in Hamburg für stetigen Nachschub mit Spaßwaren. Some time ago we called for area agents. We were overloaded with applications at that time and for logistical reasons were not able to respond to all of them. We have now finally managed to set up the necessary infrastructure in order to work with Area Agents. Just in case you’re not exactly sure any more what an Area Agent is here’s a short reminder: As mushroom is becoming increasingly international we are looking for scene specialists in order to expand in Europe. If you are at the

heart of your scene, have good contacts to the local trancers, are a friend of mushroom, and would like to distribute the magazine at parties then you are exactly who we’re looking for. 10 years ago - mushroom magazine June/July 1997 Eine mushroom Sommer-Doppelausgabe läutete den Goa-Sommer 1997 ein. Was wäre eine solches Heft ohne Interviews mit den Machern der Szene – und das waren zweifelsohne Scotty und Antaro, die wir über die Voov Experience und über den damaligen Label-Platzhirschen Spirit Zone befragten. Außerdem stellte Alpha seine Radioshow »Alpha‘s Crazy Sounds« vor, die damals im Offenen Kanal Bremen lief. Weiterhin gab Interviews mit Paul van Dyk, Magic Eyes Deko und einen sehr umfangreichen Open-Air-Partykalender, bei dem man sich damals schon fragte, wer denn auf so viele Events gehen kann. Ein paar Namen zum Träumen gefällig? Waldheim Open Air, Shakarees Klosterode Open Air, Siebenstein, Lovefield 2, Nation Of Gondwana, VooV Experience, Excalibur, Shiva Moon 3, Alienated 3, Pow Wow, Antaris, Pooja, Two Moons ... Erstmals im Blickpunkt stand in dieser Ausgabe www.chaishop.com, der später ja auch eine Zeit lang mushroom-Artikel online verfügbar machte und sozusagen die mushroom-Homepage wurde, bis mushroom-online.com das Licht erblickte.

Scotty (VuuV): »So nannten wir die Party dann einfach nach meinem Lieblingstrack Voov, weil keiner wusste, was das heißt. (...) Konnte ja auch keiner ahnen, dass die Sache mal so populär wird und dass es mit dem Namen sogar mal rechtliche Probleme geben würde, weil Voov ja eigentlich der Künstlername von dem Christian aus Berlin ist.« Scotty (Vuuv): »So we called the party after my favourite track Voov because no one knew what it meant. [...] No one could then predict that it would become such a popular event, and that there would even be a legal troubles about the name, as Voov is actually the artist name of Christian from Berlin.« The goa summer of 1997 was heralded in by a double mushroom magazine issue. What would such a double issue be without interviews with activists of the scene – and that was without a doubt Scotty and Antaro, whom we questioned on the topics Voov Experience and the then leading label Sprit Zone. Besides this Alpha introduced his radio show »Alpha‘s Crazy Sounds« which was being broadcast on Bremen’s public radio channel. There were also interviews with Paul van Dyk, Magic Eyes Deko and a very extensive party calendar which already then made one wonder who could visit all these events.
