for Open Air For two month now we had a poll on our web site, asking you what is the point for you to visit one of this summers festivals, what are you doing there and what you thinking about these topic. On the following pages you will find the results and some more responses of our readers. The most important question is Why. What makes you drive several hundred kilometers to party a whole weekend on the greenfield? Is it the lineup, the deco or are your friends dragging you? And what are your eating habits: do you feed yourself with the food offered on the festival or do you go on a supermarket foray before? And how long does it usually take for you to recover from a really good festival or do you plan in advance for a holyday right after? Are you participating in the work-

Zwei Monate hatten wir eine Umfrage auf unserer Webseite um von Euch zu erfahren was Euch dazu bringt die Festivals im Sommer zu besuchen, was ihr dort so treibt und was Euch sonst noch zu diesem Thema bewegt. Auf den folgenden Seiten findet Ihr die Auswertung.

Essentials for lucky guests What do you expect from a party or the organisers? No surprise: first position takes your demand for clean toilets and showers. Secondly, also almost in unison: free drinking water. Dancing makes you thirsty, definitely! Only later things like a good soundsystem, a professional crew and a friendly security are asked for. On a festival some of you don´t seem to be able to tune out and are really communication-junkies, an amazingly great number of you asked for a power connection to hook up your mobiles for example.

Was erwartet Ihr von einer Party oder dem Veranstalter? An erster Stelle stand bei den meisten etwas nicht sehr verwunderliches: Saubere Toiletten und Duschen. Auf Platz zwei, aber auch fast in aller Munde: Kostenloses Trinkwasser. Einige wünschen sich sogar Limonade. Wer viel tanzt hat eben auch viel Durst. Jetzt fragen wir uns nur, lag es vielleicht daran das wir diese Beispiele vorgegeben haben? Später tauchen Dinge wie ein gutes Soundsystem, eine professionelle Crew und eine freundliche Security auf. Interessant auch das einige von Euch können scheinbar nicht mal auf den Festivals auf abschalten und sind echte Kommunikationsjunkies, erstaunlich wie oft wir in Euren Antworten lasen das ein Stromanschluss gewünscht wird um zum Beispiel Handys zu laden.

How is that? When you get at the party the you lock your car and head straight for the dance floor? Only in a few instances you took the view that your presence and your cheerfulness is expression enough. Much love and care is taken in the styling of your camps and there may have been parties where the campsite had a nicer deco than the party itself. Particularly on the big festivals it seems to be of great importance to be visibly present and to create a cozy athmosphere. A hammock is a must and most set up a flagpole with their own banners. Dressing up seems to be pretty important

too and your gear is carefully chosen and is preferably quite colorful. Juggling and other kinds of performances and recreation are enyoied by many: Devil-Sticks, Pois or Frisbees are found everywhere. Wie ist denn das? Wenn man auf der Party ist, Auto abschliessen und ab auf den Floor? Nur in ganz wenigen Fällen wart Ihr der Meinung Eure Anwesenheit und die gute Laune die Ihr mitbringt sei doch Ausdruck genug. Viel Liebe stecken unsere Leser in die Gestaltung ihrer Camps auf den Partys und es hat wohl auch schon Partys gegeben auf denen der Campingplatz schöner dekoriert war als der Rest der Party. Besonders auf den großen Festivals scheint es wichtig zu sein das Camp schon vom Weiten erkennen zu können und auch dort eine chillige Atmosphäre zu kreieren. Die Hängematte ist natürlich ein Muss und der Fahnenmast gehört bei vielen schon zum Standard. Bevorzugt werden eigenen Fahnen aufgehängt. Mit viel Bedacht wird die richtige Garderobe für die Party ausgewählt, die Kleidung spielt scheinbar eine große Rolle und sollte möglichst bunt sein. Jonglieren und andere Formen von Performance sind weit verbreitet. Jonglierbälle, Devil-Sticks, Pois, oder Frisbees dürfen nicht fehlen.

Crazy Experiences The question for your craziest party experience provoked mostly the same answer: „There were too many and telling them all would go beyond the scope of your magazine“. Many party names were mentioned, mostly without further details. National and international events are on the list but the Boom and Soulclipse seem to be recognized a lot last year. We also received some disturbing recounts and we feel compelled to express our view: less is sometimes more! ;)

Die häufigste Antwort auf die Frage nach Eurem verrücktesten Partyerlebnis war: „Das waren einfach zu viele und das alles zu erzählen würde den Rahmen eures Heftes sprengen!“ Eine Menge Partynamen fanden sich in den Antworten, leider häufig ohne weitere Erklärung. Die Boom und Soulclipse haben es Euch im letzten Jahr scheinbar besonders angetan. Ein paar beunruhigende oder eigenartige Berichte gab es auch und den Schreibern möchten wir hier noch einen Rat mitgeben: Weniger ist manchmal mehr! ;)

What kind of workshops would you participate in?

Workshops requested! The top two of our online-survey, deco/art and music making are directly party related. Those who would like to enjoy massages and massaging or desire for spiritual healings are more than one fourth of you. Your proposals for other workshops mention mostly juggling, capoeira, poi, yoga or handycrafts. Other suggestions range from free love, quantum physics, groupsex/social intimacy, performance art, theater & styling, survival training, making didgeridoos and discussions of political issues. One idea for a workshop was: how to enjoy yourself without drugs. The point is: there are too many with too much and for some even little is still too much.

Die Topantworten in diesem Teil der Umfrage, Deco/Art und Musik machen, haben direkten Bezug zur Party. Auch für Massagen oder spirituelle Dinge interessieren immer noch mehr als 25%. Jenseits der vorgegebenen Möglichkeiten hattet Ihr aber noch unzählige Wünsche, Jonglieren, Capoeira, Poi, Yoga oder Kunsthandwerk. Weitere Anregungen waren freie Liebe, Quanten Physik, Gruppensex, Performance, Theater, Überlebenstraining, Didgereedoos oder über Politik zu diskutieren. Eine Idee für einen Workshop fanden wir besonders: Wie gefalle ich mir selbst ohne Drogen? Der Punkt ist: Da sind zu viele mit zu viel drin und für einige ist selbst wenig schon zu viel!

What is the perfect location? We recognized a great dividedness in the question for the perfect partyspace and it seemed as if everybody would like to party right at his doorstep. and sent our field service for the answer. This pictures here shows you the location he found out there. Große Uneinigkeit herrschte bei der Frage nach dem perfekten Platz für eine Party und es schien als möchte jeder am liebsten vor seiner eigenen Haustür feiern.

Liegt es an mangelnden Fahrgelegenheiten und Papieren oder ist Reisen schlicht zu teuer? Natur, Wald, Wiesen, Berge und ganz wichtig immer wieder: Wasser zum Baden und Erfrischen sollen es dann aber schon sein, natürlich vorzugsweise nicht von oben. Am besten an magischen Orten unter freiem Himmel. In der Schnittmenge fanden wir dann doch über 80 mal den Strand. Wir haben also all eure Statements in einem großen Kessel einmal kräftig durch gerührt und damit unseren Außendienst losgeschickt das Ergebnis zu suchen. Things you need but you can´t buy If you go to festivals, not being at home, you should take your time to be prepared for all situations, wheather and else. Those lucky ones who wrote that they don´t need anything (exept money or not even that?) were quite many. Yes, usually we are well served with food and drinks and on larger festivals you can clothe yourself completely. This may be quite expensive but what if you need things like tampons etc. that are hard to find on a festival. Zigarettes and tobacco are also quite expensive. As an aide we have added Richards Open Air Packlist, a list that contains all the things you need or might need in your partylife Wenn einer eine Reise tut, dann kann er was erleben... Und wer auf ein Festival fährt, mehrere Tage nicht zuhause ist, der sollte sich vorher ruhig ein wenig mehr Zeit nehmen um auch wirklich spä-

ter für jede Situation gewappnet zu sein. Wohl denen die uns geschrieben haben, dass sie gar nichts brauchen (außer Geld?), das waren nicht wenige. Klar, üblicherweise werden wir ja auf den Festivals bestens mit Essen und Getränken versorgt, auf den großen Events können wir uns sogar bei Bedarf neu einkleiden. Doch erstens ist das meist recht teuer und zweitens gibt es Dinge die auf einem Festival auch schwer zu bekommen sind. Zigaretten und Tabak zum Beispiel werden auf Festivals nicht gerade günstig gehandelt, oder versucht mal in der Market Area Tampons zu finden. Als kleine Hilfe haben wir Richards Open Air Packliste an das Ende dieses Spezials gehängt, eine Liste mit Dingen, die man im Partyalltag braucht oder auch nur brauchen könnte.

This question takes the same line as the previous one and so it´s not really a big surprise that the answers are almost identical. Despite of the fact that we did´nt quite understand which plants you categorical need to take with you and the answers indicated a lot of things we consider to be tucked neatly. But topanswer was the partner, almost every second wanted to share the experience with him or her, closely followed by friends in general. Interestingly how many people would choose a camera or would bring their own music if items where reduced to only three. In any case it is good to see that love, loughter and spirit are absolutely essential and therefore brought along by yourselves. Diese Frage schlägt natürlich in fast die gleiche Kerbe wie die davor und so ist es auch nicht besonders verwunderlich das die Antworten zu einem großen Teil identisch sind. Ganz verstanden haben wir nicht welche Pflanzen Ihr unbedingt mitnehmen wollt und es fanden sich hier bei den Antworten deutlich mehr Dinge die man besser gut und tief verstauen sollte. Topantwort war aber wohl der Partner, denn fast jeder Zweite nannte seinen Freund oder Freundin, dicht gefolgt von den Freunden generell. Interessant auch wie viele Leute, reduziert auf drei Dinge, immer noch an ihre Kamera denken oder unbedingt ihre eigene Musik mit zur Party bringen. Auf jeden Fall war es schön zu sehen daß ein großer Teil von euch auf Liebe, Lachen und Spirit nicht verzichten will und ihn deshalb auch gleich mitbringt.

Kiwa und Highpersonic Whomen schlagen jedoch mit ihren Label-Debüts nochmals eine neue Richtung ein und servieren ihre jeweils eigene Definition von psychedelisch progressiver Musik, die auch jenen gefallen wird, die bisher stets sagten: »die spinnen, die Finnen...« Wer seid Ihr, wie verliefen Eure musikalischen Karrieren und was hat es mit den neuen Konzepten auf sich, die hinter Kiwa und Highpersonic Whomen stecken? Tommi: Da ich einer Vollblut-Musikerfamilie entstamme, habe ich keine genaue Erinnerung, wie das mit der Musikbegeisterung genau angefangen hat.

Highpersonic Whomen wurde ursprünglich von Jürgen Sachau und mir gegründet. Nach dem Erscheinen unseres ersten Albums »Alternative Energysource« haben wir auf Underground-Festivals überall auf der Welt gespielt auch als Haltya, Pelinpala and Outolinto. Irgendwann fällte Jürgen den Entschluss, aus unserem Projekt auszusteigen und ich fragte meinen Freund Markku Louhio von Kiwa – das Resultat war »Push The Limit«. Das erste Album haben wir komplett analog erstellt und sogar gemastert! Ich muss zugeben, dass unsere Prouktionsweise ziemlich unorthodox war. Zum Beispiel sind wir in Musikläden gegangen, haben dort ein wenig mit den Synths und so herumgespielt – und in einem unbeobachteten Moment einfach ein Dat eingesteckt und den Sound mitgenommen. Heutzutage

geht das natürlich alles viel einfacher und schneller. Es scheint ganz, als würde von eurem neuen Sound auch der finnische Sound an sich profitieren, sich größerem Publikum erschließen. Sowas wie ein Ausbruch des inneren psychedelischen Kreises hin zu konsumierbarerem Stil ... Markku: Die Idee dahinter ist, dass progressive Musik Einflüsse verbindet, von denen wir denken, dass sie wirklich gebraucht werden. Also unsere Leistung dazugeben, aber im Genre bleiben. Außerdem gibt es zahlreiche Talente in der finnischen Proggy-Szene, die international noch gar nicht bekannt sind. Haltet eure Ohren in der Zukunft nach Finnen auf! Tommi: Das meiste der finnischen psychedelischen Musik ist entweder zu hart oder zu lustig für die meisten Menschen, aber trotzdem scheint da ein Kern von Leuten zu sein, die total auf diesen »Suomi-Sound« stehen. Unser Anspruch ist es, gut produzierte, schöne, interessante psychedelische Trancemusik zu kreieren. Wir wollen ein clubbigeres Umfeld von Breakbeat, Proggy und Techno, ohne dass der Flow dabei auf der Strecke bleibt. Auf den meisten Festivals wird nicht viel Wert auf innovativen, frischen Wind durch junge Künstler gelegt, scheint leider so, als sei das der sichere Weg.

Now Exogenic Records, the traditional home of finnish extravaganza, picked up both and we have - as expected - two fresh and highly psychedelic albums - but,... at the same time they are really progressive and include a lot of club music influences. So we have very good news from Tommi Sirkiä and Markku Louhio directly from the Suomi woods. Please explain the constellation of people, your history in music and the new concepts behind Kiwa and Highpersonic Whomen. Tommi: I don‘t really remember since I was already into it being 3rd generation of a musician family. Highpersonic Whomen was formed originally by Jürgen Sachau and me. After our first album »Alternative Energysource« we played around the globe at underground festivals. Jürgen didn ´t feel the vibe to continue. So I asked my friend Markku Louhio from Kiwa to join the production. The result was »Push The Limit«. Our first album was produced in analog style, even the mastering. Our production methods were pretty unorthodox. For example did we go to music stores to play around with the synths and gizmos - and when nobody was watching we hooked a portable dat into the outputs and snitched the sounds on the spot. These

Markku: The idea behind it is: progressive music melts influences that we feel this music needs. Adding our effort, but still keeping within the genre. Besides our own projects we have many promising talents in the Finnish progressive scene to offer for the international trance public. Just keep your ears open for Finland in the near future... Tommi: Most Finnish psychedelic music is too hard or too funny for most of the people, however there seems to be a core circle of true psychedelic people who »get it«, get the »suomisound«. We try to make well pro-

duced, good sounding trance music, psychedelic and interesting. We want a more clubby surrounding of breakbeat, prog and techno without loosing the flow. We did the new album completely digital and everything from the beginning to the mastering by ourselves to have maximum control, and the sound feels good now. We ´ve been involved in the electronic music scene for so many years now, that we believe in true quality music, core families, the people and timeless production. Fullmoon Festival Fr-We 27 July - 1 August / Wittstock/Dosse (Germany) Das Full-On Festival, wie es von vielen Psytrancern nicht nur wegen der Werbung in den Jahren 2004 und 2005 genannt wird, erwartet uns auch in diesem Jahr wieder mit dem wohl umfangreichsten LineUp in Deutschland. Mehr als 100 Künstler aus 25 Ländern haben dieses Jahr schon zugesagt. Besonders gespannt sind wir mushroom-Macher natürlich auf das FullMoonFestival Magazin, welches ihr auf dem Event erhalten sollt und in dem ihr nützliche Hinweise zum Time-Table und dem Festival bekommt. Klar, dass der Schwerpunkt hier auf FullOn liegt, aber bei drei Soundsystemen könnt ihr natürlich auch ausreichend chil-

Auf dem progressive Floor wurde in diesem Jahr deutlich nachgelegt, und das diesjährige LineUp allein dieses Floors stellt so manches progressive Festival in den Schatten. Im Chillout vermisse ich allerdings auch in diesem Jahr erneut die klanghaften Namen - aber wer geht auch schon zum chillen auf das FullMoon Festival? The FullOn festival, as it is called by many trancers due to the advertising campaigns of 2005 and 2005, as well as for the artists who play there awaits you this year with the most extravagant line up in Germany. Over 100 artists from 25 nations have already confirmed for this year. As

Obviously the focus is on full on here, but with three sound systems there are also enough possibilities to chill as well as to boogie to progressive sounds. Vuuv 2007 - The Transformation Fr-Su 3 - 5 August / Putlitz (Germany) Eine Silbe bewegt die Szene: VuuV! Und sie polarisiert! Auf der einen Seite viel Unverständnis, dass sich nach 15 Jahren etwas ändert und auf der anderen Seite Begeisterung das sich etwas bewegt. Sei‘n wir doch mal ehrlich, phonetisch klingt VuuV nicht anders als VooV und auch das neue Logo ist eine gelungene Transformation. Ein neuer Aufbau (Floors, Shops, Camping) soll den familiären Charakter des Festivals in den Vordergrund stellen. Die Erfahrung, die Scotty in 15 Jahren als Veranstalter verschiedener Festivals und Parties gesammelt hat kommt auch bei diesem Projekt zum tragen und nach wie vor wird ihn ein über Jahre gewachsenes Team unterstützen. Das LineUp bleibt wie auch bisher bis zur Veranstaltung geheim. Hier geht es eben nicht um »Name-Droppers-Paradise«. Musik bekommt ihr auf zwei Floors, einem Main- und einem Open Mind Floor. zeit findet Ihr exzellente Musik für fast jeden Geschmack. Auf dem Main Floor das beste aus Psy-, Progressive Trance und Full On, visuell vollendet durch die atemberaubende Laser Show. Alternativ dazu wird auf dem Open Mind Floor Progressive, Electro und Ambient geboten. In diesem Jahr kooperiert das Team mit diversen Busunternehmen aus Deutschland und Skandinavien. Die Anreise mit der Bahn ist bis Pritzwalk möglich, von dort geht es mit einem Busshuttle zum Festivalgelände. Während der Veranstaltung werden drei Pferdekutschen die Gäste bequem und sicher von der Location in die Stadt zum Einkaufen und zur Badeanstalt bringen. Die Camping Area ist von Donnerstag den 2. August Nachmittags bis Dienstag den 7. August morgens 10:00 Uhr geöffnet. One word is currently causing ripples in the scene: Vuuv! And it is polarising the scene. As an alternative the Open Mind floor will offer progressive, electro and ambient. This year the team has made partnerships with various bus travel organisers from Germany and Scandinavia. Arriving by train is also possible; you will arrive at Pritzwalk, from there you can continue to the festival area with a shuttle bus service. During the festival three horse drawn carts will safely and comfortably transport guests to and from the festival to the nearby town to buy supplies, or the nearby swimming pool. Fr-Su 10 - 12 August / Stemwede-Wehdem (Germany) Es gibt wohl kein Trancefest in NRW, dem die Fangemeinde so dermaßen entgegenfiebert wie die Waldfrieden Wonderland. Und dabei ist dem treuen Stammpublikum gar nicht das internationale Line Up wichtig, sondern einfach das Gesamtkunstwerk Wonderland, was man einfach mal erlebt haben muss. Traditionell setzt Veranstalter Ranger auf Live statt auf Playtasten-Acts. Und deshalb gibts diesmal beispielsweise Lani aus Belgien mit ihrer Trancerock-Show zu bestaunen. Der Hamburger TCK wird zusammen mit Johann Bley einen seiner besonderen DJ trifft Drummer Acts bringen. Um das Stampfen auf dem Mainfloor noch angenehmer zu machen, wurde er gerade gebaggert. Es wird aber natürlich Waldfriedenlike auf zwei Ebenen getanzt und am Hang dem Wald und der Sonne entgegen abgechillt. Wie auch in den letzten Jahren wird es zusätzlich den niedlichen Beachfloor, den Indoorfloor und ein Chill Out geben. Die Waldfrieden-Crew ist immer für Specials gut. Was es diesmal für eine architektonische Wunderleistung oder Special Performance gibt, die nicht auf dem Flyer aufgeführt ist, konnten wir dem Wonderland Team leider noch nicht entlocken. Aber man darf erfahrungsgemäß gespannt sein.

No other trance festival in North-Rhine Westphalia puts the fraggles in such an excitement as Waldfrieden Wonderland. Thereby its not the international line up that the loyal regulars are so crazy about, but rather the overall impression which only can be experienced. Following his tradition, the organizer favours great live acts instead of letting push-the-button-acts operate. This year Lani from Belgium are up to burn the dancefloor with their trancerock show. Also, TCK from Hamburg and Johan Bley will get together for their one-of-a-kind DJ meets drummer act. To make stomping more comfortable, they are digging the mainfloor at the moment. Of course, typically Waldfrieden-like there will be two dance areas and the chill on the hill to enjoy a break in the sunshine. Proved and tested during the last two Wonderlands, additionally the cute beach floor, the indoor floor and a chillout area will provide even more space. You can always count on the Waldfrieden-Crew for some kind of special performance or gigantic installation not being listed on the flyer. Shamanik Festival Sa-We 11 - 15 August / Avis (Portugal) Der paradiesische See nahe der Stadt Avis in Portugal steht Mitte August ganz im Zeichen der Schamanen und des Trance. Wir werden aufgefordert uns zusammen zu finden und unsere kreative Energie zu befreien. Es gibt vier Floors und der Fokus liegt deutlich bei FullOn, die Alternativen hierzu sind ein Dark-Psy-, ein Progressive- und ein Chill-Floor. Existence Festival Fr-Su 11 - 13 August / Fehrbellin (Germany) Es ist immer wieder schön zu sehen, dass verloren geglaubte Ideen mit vereinten Kräften doch wieder auf den Planungstisch kommen: Die Klangspieler aus Berlin werden nun doch gemeinsam mit den Leuten vom Domsikara Project aus Magdeburg ein Open Air auf die Beine stellen. Ihr ehrgeiziges Projekt nennt sich Existence Open Air und wird - leicht und schnell erreichbar von Berlin - auf einer ehemaligen Raketenbasis stattfinden. Es gibt einen stark progressiv eingefärbten Mainfloor, auf dem Leckerbissen wie Klopfgeister, Haldolium und SkiFi zu hören sein werden, sowie einen Electro Floor und eine Chillout Area mit genügend Platz für verschiedene Strömungen elektronischer Musik. It’s always great to see how ideas that one thought were lost, make a comeback to the planning table with the united strength of various people. The Klangspieler crew from Berlin will mount an open air with the people from the Domsikara Project from Magdeburg after all. O.Z.O.R.A. Festival We-Su 8 - 12 August / Ozora (Hungary) Ungarn entwickelt sich immer mehr zu einem der psychedelische Hotspots in Europa. Unzählige kleine Veranstaltungen und drei große Festivals in diesem Jahr, von den das Ozora Festival das größte ist. Auf der legendären Wiese, auf der sich 1999 zu Psytrance die Sonne verdunkelte, finden sich auch in diesem August wieder die größten Künstler unseres Genres zusammen. Besonders positiv aufgefallen ist mir das LineUp im Chill. Dort stehen mit Acts wie Twisted, Ultimae und anderen auch mal ein paar hochkarätige Live-Chiller im Programm und nicht, wie leider viel zu oft, nur die Kumpels vom Veranstalter und die »Fahrtgeldliga«. 2006 waren wohl um die 4000 Leute an diesem Ort, an dem alles möglich ist, wo Träume wahr werden, wo die Parole »Spaß haben« lautet - und jeder sich um den Nächsten kümmert. Hungary is up to become one of the psychedelic hotspots around Europe. Countless small events and three huge festivals will be happening during 2007. Ozora, the biggest one, still calls the famous meadow its home, on which - remember 1999 - a fish hung in front of the sun. This summer the biggest psy acts gather at the place where dreams come true, where each one feels responsible for one another and, of course, a lot of fun is in the air! ;) I was especially impressed by the lineup for the chill area. Acts like Twisted, Ultimae and others known for their live(!) performances make Ozora outstanding compared to most other festivals, where too often the chill is treated with the least effort. Tour de Swiss Der Sommer in der Schweiz lockt jedes Jahr auf’s Neue in die Rocking Mountains. Eine sehr vielfältige Szene hat sich dort gebildet und bedient alle Genres elektronischer Musik. Beim eintägigen Elmazing Night Open Air oberhalb von Elm hat sich das Synthetic Vibes Team um ein besonderes Line-Up bemüht: Liquid Soul, Ticon und Iboga-Boss Emok neben Infected Mushroom. Doch damit nicht genug: Mit Northern Lite und T.Raumschmiere hat auch andere elektronische Musik ihren Platz im Gefüge. Schade nur, dass parallel dazu ein paar Bergketten weiter südwestlich im Oberwallis Nandan zur sechsten Maharaya einlädt. Die Party steht im Zeichen der Hochzeit von Nadia und Valentin (beide treibende Kräfte bei Nandan). Natürlich werden für dieses einzigartige Ereignis ganz besondere Künstler mit der akustischen Untermalung betraut: Fatali, Basic und die nationalen und internationalen üblichen Verdächtigen. Das Summers End Festival kollidiert zum Glück mit keiner anderen (nationalen) Veranstaltung ähnlicher Dimension und ist dieses Jahr der Favorit für die größte Outdoor der Schweiz. Die schöne Location in einem Bündnertal kann dieses Jahr mit absoluter Rückendeckung der zuständigen Gemeinde wieder genutzt werden, nur der Termin musste aufgrund von Änderungen bei den lokalen Jagdgewohnheiten leider einen Monat nach vorne auf Anfang August verschoben werden. Für das leibliche Wohl ist am Sonntagvormittag mit einem kostenlosen Frühstück gesorgt; abgerundet wird das Event mit einer Vorstellung des Circus Hollywood. Es wird wohl noch dauern, bis die Zoom wieder näher bei der Streetparade stattfinden kann und der Zürcher See auf seinen Sicherheitsabstand verzichtet. For the one-day Elmazing Night Open Air above Elm the Synthetic Vibes team strokeout a special lineup: Liquid Soul, Ticon, Iboga-Boss Emok - and Infected Mushroom. But there is more to it than that: Other kinds of electronic music like Northern Lite and T.Raumschmiere broaden the whole spectrum. Too bad, that parallel Nandan invites to the sixth Maharaya. Only a few mountain chains further, Nadia and Valentin, both moving spirits of the Nandan crew, celebrate their wedding. Of course, outstanding artists are booked for this special event: Fatali, Basic as well as the national and international usual suspects. Summers End Festival is luckily not about to clash with any other (national) event of similar size. Being the largest outdoor festival makes it the favourite for most of the fraggles. The beautiful location within the Bündnertal valley can again be used this year, having complete backing up by the residentiary

community. As a matter of fact, due to local hunting habits the date had to be moved forward to the beginning of August. Sunday evening everybody can take part in a free breakfast and Circus Hollywood will round off the whole event. Last but not least ...we shouldn’t forget to mention that each year during Streetparade >Zoom Festival< will take place on the second weekend in August. Th-Mo 16 - 20 August / near Elvas (Portugal) Das Freedom Festival im sonnenverwöhnten Portugal ist Trance Tribe Gathering und ein internationales Event zugleich, welches alle zwei Jahre in Portugal immer im Wechsel mit der Boom stattfindet. Das Trancefest startete 2005 am Ufer des Caia See und wird in diesem Jahr etwa 20km weiter in der Nähe von Elvas fortgesetzt. Hier erwartet den Besucher ein von Olivenbäumen umringter kristallklarer See. Nach dem großen Erfolg vor zwei Jahren wird die Zusammenarbeit mit dem israelischen Hom-Mega Team fortgeführt, welches als Präsentator des Festivals mitwirkt und so standesgemäß den zehnjährigen Labelgeburtstag feiern kann. Das Line Up ist gigantisch und eine Aufzählung dessen, was in der Psytrance Szene Rang und Namen hat. Aber nicht nur die Artists sind der Freedom Crew wichtig. In vielen

Shiva Moon in Hungary Fr-Mo 24 - 27 August / Dunaremete (Hungary) In Dunaremete innerhalb eines wunderschönen Naturschutzgebiet mit malerischen Flußläufen im nördlichen Ungarn direkt an der Slowakischen Grenze und nur 20 km von Österreichischen Grenze hat die Shiva Moon eine neue Heimat gefunden. Veranstalter Jan Engel hatte ja bereits vor zwei Jahren den Beschluss gefasst Deutschland aufgrund der immer härter werdenden Gangart der Behörden den Rücken zu kehren. Auf Anfrage nach Gründen für den Umzug in den Süden sagt er: »Aus Meck Pomm kommen zu viele Ballermann Gäste mit Glatzen, Specknacken, sowie die BademeisterGesellschaft. Das geht nicht mehr, denn dadurch verlieren wir zu viele nette Tranceszene-Leute. Die möchte ich aber gerne wieder auf der Shiva Moon begrüßen dürfen. Im Süden sind die Leute auf den Partys viel netter und da geht‘s ab wie es bei uns im Norden so 1991 bis 1997 war.« Und da man sich schon an einer völlig neuen Location befindet, die um einiges Reizvoller ist als die ewige MeckPommsche Wiese, hat man sich auch entschlossen noch weiter am Konzept zu feilen. So soll es zum Beispiel ganz viel neue Optik von fünf kreativen internationalen Dekoteams geben, was allerdings natürlich nicht bedeutet, dass das die Pyramide verschwindet. Das gigantische Wahrzeichen des Festivals wird auch diesmal den Mainfloor verzaubern. Musikalisch wird sich auch etwas ändern, denn auf dem Proggyfloor wird nun zusätzlich Electrotrance zu hören sein. Damit wird den aktuellen stilistischen Entwicklungen Rechnung getragen und das Festival soundmäßig offener gestaltet. Und wenns mal ambienter zugehen soll, lädt ein Chillout Zelt zum entspannen und herumgrooven ein. Shiva Moon’s new home is Dunaremete, amidst a beautiful nature protection area with pictorial rivers in the Northern part of Hungary, directly located at the Slovakian border and about 20 km far from Austria. The new location being so much different from the wellknown Mecklenburg location opened the way to alter all kinds of things. The concept advanced steadily, for example in terms of decoration. Lots of new deco elements and backdrops created by five inventive international teams will captivate and lead you into magic worlds. But this does NOT mean that the pyramide has to give way! The gigantic festival landmark will again transmit spirit in the middle of the mainfloor. Policia in Austria Lästige Polizeikontrollen und die daraus resultierende Paranoia waren nicht die einzigsten Strapazen, denen sich die Besucher der Spirit Base stellen mußten. Aber Jenseits der „anstrengenden“ Situationen Zum wahrhaften Politikum wurde die Vorgeschichte des Spirit-BaseFestivals. Veranstalter Goran musste die beliebte Wüstenlocation der letzten Jahre, leider aufgeben. Nach einem Zwischenspiel mit der Ersatzlocation in der potenziellen Gemeinde Höflein gab‘s reichlich Zoff mit dem dortigen Bürgermeister. Die Proteste der Jugend und der lokalen Wirtschaftsbetriebe waren lautstark in den Medien zu hören. Doch der Bürgermeister blieb bei seiner Ablehnung. So entschied sich Goran, das Festival kurzerhand in die Gemeinde Markt Allhau im Südburgenland zu verlegen. Auch dort war der

haben sich die Leute das Fest nicht verderben lassen, es herrschte eine ausgelassene Stimmung und somit eine gute Basis um nette neue Leute kennenzulernen oder mit alten Bekannten zu feiern.

Bürgermeister zuerst nicht begeistert, denn Jahre vorher gab es auf dem dortigen Festivalgelände eine traumatische Technoparty mit Gewalt und massivem Polizeieinsatz. So kam es auch diesmal - wie schon vor zwei Jahren - zum Einsatz ziviler und unzivilisierter Polizisten, die vor allem am ersten Tag auch harmlose Konsumenten nicht näher definierter Rauchsubstanzen aufschrieben. Glaubt man den lokalen Blättern, gab es auf dem Festival 48 Anzeigen wegen Drogenbesitz. Außerdem wurden 33 Anzeigen bei der Überprüfung von Autos bei der Autobahnabfahrt erstattet. In den folgenden vier Tagen amüsierte sich schließlich sogar der Bürgermeister auf dem Festival und die Kontrollen waren schlagartig Geschichte. Drei heftige Gewitter in unmittelbarer Folge verwandelten weite Teile des Festivalgeländes und der CampingArea am Samstagnachmittag in eine

Teich- und Sumpflandschaft, der so einige Zelte zum Opfer fielen. Die vielen Momente, bei denen im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes aus heiterem Himmel herab plötzlich der Sound verstummte waren eine weitere Strapaze, die der Tanzgemeinde dann leider oft den Wind aus den Segeln nahm. Timetable? Auf den war oft kein Verlass, was gerade bei so einem Line-Up etwas ärgerlich ist, da man ja gerne voher wissen möchte wann die eigenen Lieblingskünstler spielen. Übrigens, Chillout hörte ich aus dem Schmox-Zelt tagsüber allenfalls an den ersten beiden Tagen. Immer wieder für ein Schmunzeln gut war Lady Ranch, ein zum Pachtgrundstück gehörendes Puff mit ihrer unübersehbaren und nicht unbedingt geschmackvoll wirkenden roten „Leuchtdeko“. Jedenfalls darf die Spirit Base seit 2007 mit mehr als 3.000 Besuchern - besonders viele aus Deutschland und Osteuropa - den Titel des zweitgrößten Goa-Festivals Österreichs tragen. Congratulations! Tiresome police controls and the resulting paranoia were not the only strains which the visitors of the Spirit Base had to endure, however most didn’t let this situaThe time leading up to of the Spirit Base Festival had become a truly political issue. Unfortunately organizer Goran had to give up the popular desert location of the last years. There was a short flirt with a potential location in the community Höflein; this however resulted in a lot of stress with the local mayor. The protests of the local youth and local business concerns were heard loudly in the media, the mayor however maintained his rejection. After this, Goran made a quick decision to transfer the festival to the community of Markt Allhau. Also here the mayor was at first not happy about the party prospects, as a few years back a traumatic techno party took place on the same festival area, which resulted in violence and massive police deployment. And so this year, similar to two years ago, the use of normal and undercover policemen was authorized, who on the first day happily toured the field and wrote tickets for the harmless consumption of non defined smoking substances. If one is to believe the news of local papers, there were 48 tickets given for illegal drug possession. Besides this 33 tickets were written by police officials examining cars by the nearby highway exit. In the following four days the mayor actually joined the festival celebrations and also had a good time and to the relief of all participants from one

Always good for a laugh was the so called Lady Ranch, a bordello that was part of the land on leasehold with a conspicuous and not necessarily fitting red “light decoration”. In any case, the Spirit Base festival can call itself the second largest event in Austria with over 3.000 visitors, many from Germany and Eastern Europe. Congratulations! Spirit Base should secure itself a new location for 2008, hopefully one where the bathing sea isn’t drained 5 days before the festival. Tuso & Tomrom

Drops Reflections Die Probleme der Spirit Base erscheinen recht klein im Gegensatz zu denen der Veranstalter des Drops Reflection Festivals, gut zehn Tage später hatten. Aus ganz Europa, Brasilien, Israel, Indien und Australien waren die Gäste angereist, um an dem Megaevent am Forsthof in Klausen-Leopoldsdorf teilzunehmen. Am Donnerstag sollte es losgehen, doch das Land Niederösterreich hat die Veranstaltung untersagt. Am Donnerstag gegen Mittag sperrte die Polizei die Straßen. Die Begründung der Behörden: Die Veranstalter hatten wesentliche Unterlagen bis zum Schluss nicht vorlegen können. Die Veranstalter wiederum erklären: Es gäbe keine Richtlinien, was man benötige und man habe auch keine Chance gehabt, etwas nachzureichen, das Land habe kein Entgegenkommen gezeigt. Zurzeit wird eine Sammelklage aller Anrainer und Betriebe im Laabental, die durch diese enorme Polizeipräsenz finanziellen Schaden erlitten, erwogen. A look into your inner self Was wäre eine Psyparty ohne Deko, ohne visuelle Anreize, die uns mitten hinein in magische Welten führen? Ohne Bilder, in denen wir versinken und die uns inspirieren? Schwer vorstellbar ... Eine Künstlerin, die es immer wieder schafft zu verzaubern, ist Carin Dickson aka Artescape. Diejenigen unter uns, die auf der letzten Voov Experience waren, können sich sicher noch an die faszinierende, bunte, trippige Deko auf dem Mainfloor erinnern. Entsprungen in Carins Kopf. Wie immer, wenn die 28jährige Südafrikanerin anfängt zu malen, gibt es zuerst diese Idee in ihrem Kopf, die ihr nicht eher Ruhe lässt, bis sie ihr Pinselstrich für Pinselstrich Leben einhaucht. Es geht darum, die Wahrnehmung unserer Augen zu überlisten und in tiefere Sphären abzutauchen, sie durch verzerrte Darstellung von Dingen, merkwürdigen Wesen und verformten Objekten zu erweitern. Dann nämlich bekommt der Betrachter Zugang zur inneren Welt. Seit 10 Jahren ist Carin nun im Psytrance unterwegs und hat sich mittlerweile schon auf der ganzen Welt mit ihrer Deko eingebracht. Parallel dazu kreiert sie auch sowohl Wandmalereien als auch Ölgemälde und hat schon Aufträge von überall erhalten.

An artist who again and again manages to enchant is Carin Dickson aka Artescape. All of us who visited last year’s Voov Experience probably remember the fascinating, colorful, trippy backdrops on the main floor, all arisen in Carin’s head. Like always, when the 28-year-old South African starts to paint, there is an initial idea in her head that doesn’t peg away until she inspirits it, brushstroke by brushstroke. So the point is to outfox the perception of our eyes in order to descent into deeper spheres and to broad e n this perception through visualizing warped, trippy landscapes, strange creatures and morphed objects. Then the observer gets hold of his/her inner world. For about ten years Carin has been into psytrance and in the meantime has put forth herself with decorations all over the world. Imix aka Dj Anza, österreichischer Psytrance Artist der ersten Stunde, hat soeben sein Debutalbum released: ONE (Geomagnetic Morningstar). Imix ist Franz J. Bogendorfer, geboren 1960 in Wien. 1996 auf Goa packte ihn das „Psyfieber“. Schon bald begann er als Dj Anza Psytrance aufzulegen und konnte umfassende Dj-Erfahrung sammeln, was ihn letztendlich 2002 dazu veranlasste, seine eigene Musik als Imix zu produzieren. Imix (=KIN 161 „harmonic red dragon”) ist das Maya-Kalenderzeichen von Franz und bedeutet “Impuls”. Typisch für Imix’ stylischen full-on Psytrance sind eine harte Bass Drum und massive Bässe. Er mag funky Themen, psychedelisch-kernige Synthesizersounds und harmonische Melodien. Seine Musik ist beeinflusst von der spannungsgeladenen Energie des psychedelischen Funk der legendären 70er Jahre, wie George Clinton, Bootsie Collins, The JB �s, Herbie Hancock, Sly und Family Stone. Durch den Einsatz von Vocals und subliminalen Botschaften verpasst er seinen Tracks das gewisse Etwas.

From a freak For Freaks delight. Dj Brian aus Goa / Indien verbirgt sich hinter Kerosene Club und ist auch gleichzeitig Labelchef von Temple Twister Records. Nach drei erfolgreichen Samplern und dem bemerkenswerten Album von Claw und Paranoize bringt Brian sein Debut als Kerosene Club „Forest of the Freaks“ auf seinem hauseigenen Label heraus. Und was für eins; ein Statement an die Psytrance Gemeinde auf diesem Globus. Based in Goa / India he initialized Temple Twister Records in early 2006 and already brought about three compilations, the remarkable Claw vs. Paranoize album and he just now released his debut „Forest of the Freaks“. The Groove ahead in South Africa Mia, Nick und Dylan haben 2006 One Foot Groove ins Leben gerufen, wodurch sie ihre Liebe zum Psytrance ausdrücken und in der regionalen wie internationalen Szene einen wichtigen Beitrag in Entwicklung und Innovation leisten. Dylan Reeves hat mit seinem Album „Deep in the Bushes“ als Noise Anomalie den Startschuss gegeben, und derzeit ist die erste Compilation „Analogue“ in den Läden zu finden. Nach anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten mit ihrem ehemaligen Vertrieb sind sie nun in Hong Kong bei Saikosounds in guten Händen und bereit, ihre Labeldoktrin, bestehend aus Professionalität, Ehrlichkeit und Vertrauen über die Grenzen von Südafrika hinaus zu etablieren. Gemäß dem Motto „Versuch nicht cool zu sein, sei einfach sexy!“ können wir noch in diesem Jahr so einiges erwarten. „Stay Tuned“! One Foot Groove Records was started by devoted fans of South Africa’s trance style. Mia Martens, Nick Myburgh and Dylan Reeves began in May 2006 with the Debutalbum “Deep in the Bushes” by Noise Anomalie, not only to support the

local scene and the music they are addicted with. The labels name popped up in their mind as they were joking around on parties seeing the people dancing, “They tend to favour one foot, therefor: one foot groove!”. It was agreed that the new label’s driving motivation would be the principles of professionalism, honesty and trust. After problems with the old distribution in Greece, they started to work with Saikosounds in Honk Kong seeming to have the certain level of sobriety to the game. Dylan is based in Stellenbosch, Mia and Nick in Sommerset West and their start up is the attempt to promote and produce music of those artists who were not yet in the spotlight, thereby enriching the scope of music in the industry. “We always wanted to do our own label for the love of psytrance and will continue to bring out good music to help the industry grow”. They all finished their education in different fields like marketing, business- and communications management, Theatre arts and acting as well as majoring in clarinet and music technology. This mixture should also help to grow this baby in economic as well as in artistic manners. The first compilation “Analogue” is now in the shops, showing their idea of psytrance. PsyRADIO Split Ende letzten Jahres hatten wir die Psyradio.fm Sendestation in die Redaktionsräume des mushroom magazine verfrachtet und innerhalb recht kurzer Zeit drei weitere Channels hochgezogen. Diese Zusammenarbeit musste kürzlich nun leider beidseitig aufgrund konzeptioneller Differenzen beendet werden. Die mushroom Redaktion ist nun also nicht mehr für das Programm verentwortlich. Das Radio machen war für uns eine interessante Erfahrung, die wir vielleichth an anderer Stelle noch einmal ausleben werden. End of last year Psyradio.de moved to the mushroom office in Hamburg. Until June we enlarged the program from one to four streams. Unfortunately this partnership was cancelled now from both sides.
