Ist dann der Sommer gekommen, geht's in die Vorbereitungen der Winter- und Weihnachtszeit. Also, wir würden mal sagen: "Genial, es ist Winter!", denn wie man auf dem Cover sieht, geht es ganz klar in Richtung Festivalsaison mit einem Special über die mushroom Firmenausflugsparty Antaris Project - das traditionellste Psytrance Event in Deutschland, bei dem man auf dem Cover den Spirit schon fühlen kann. ANTARIS PROJECT 13. - 16. July 2018 • Airfield Otto Lilienthal, Stölln near Berlin / Germany Das Sternenschiff ANTARIS beamt euch am zweiten Juli-Wochenende wieder an Deck! Unter dem Motto LAUGH & DANCE – AGAINST WAR! feiern und tanzen die Antarianer für Freundschaft, Frieden und Freiheit. Mehr über die Highlights und wie das Festival zum Urgestein der Szene wurde, erfahrt ihr hier. Ein Vierteljahrhundert ist es her: 1993 startete die erste legendäre ANTARIS bei Berlin. Veranstalter Uwe Siebert war von verrückten Psytrance-Parties in Indien inspiriert und legte drei Jahre später auch in Deutschland richtig los. Die ersten Partys in Tarmow wurden schnell von tausenden Psy-Freaks besucht. Die 11. Ausgabe zog im Jahr 2005 ins Havelland auf den Flugplatz Otto Lilienthal, wo gleichnamiger Pionier zum ersten bemannten Gleitflug der Geschichte abhob. Heute gehen hier die begeisterten Antarianer auf eine Reise durch Musik und Raum. Übrigens: Im kommenden Jahr,

2019, wird eine phänomenale Jubiläumsparty steigen. Zunächst aber präsentiert euch die Crew des Sternenschiffs die 24. Ausgabe von ANTARIS PROJECT.

Ein Festival für die Augen, Ohren und das Herz! Auftanken lässt sich beim SPIRITUAL CIRCLE mit Yoga, Massagen und Workshops sowie beim Schlemmen und Shoppen in der Marktmeile. Das Publikum ist international, vielfältig und entspannt und genau wie der urtümliche Spirit das Markenzeichen des Gatherings. Nachts geht

es dann zur Sache: Die ANTARIS ist ein bombastisch fluoreszierendes Blacklight-Festival. Der Mainfloor verwandelt sich zum berühmten ANTARIS-Ufo und schickt die Tänzer in abgespacete Parallelwelten. Buju & Team werkeln für das diesjährige Festival acht Monate, um euch in ein Planeten-Universum eintauchen zu lassen. Magic Mike und Micha (EPS) kreieren die passende Mega-Light-Show, ein komplett neues Bühnen-Design mit abgefahrenem Video-Mapping tüftelt Martin Stebbing für euch aus. Die ANTARIS überzeugt natürlich auch mit einem erstklassigen

Musikkonzept. Wenn es auf dem Mainfloor schneller und härter zugeht, zeigt sich der Alternative Floor leicht und hell – und umgekehrt. Eine richtig schöne Balance! The Starship ANTARIS is beaming you up once again! With the slogan "LAUGH & DANCE - AGAINST WAR!" the Antarians celebrate and dance for friendship, peace and freedom, on the second weekend in July. It’s already a quarter of a century ago: In 1993, the first legendary ANTARIS festival took place near Berlin. Organizer Uwe Siebert felt inspired by some terrific Psytrance parties in India. Three years later he was totally ready for action and put on a new festival in Germany. Thousands of Psy-freaks attended the first parties in Tarmow. For the 11th edition in 2005 the event moved to the East-German region Havelland, on the airfield Otto Lilienthal. Here, the famous pioneer took off for the first manned gliding flight in history. Today, the enthusiastic Antarians start their journey through music and space in this area. By the way: Next year, 2019, a phenomenal anniversary party will be set up in this place. But first of all the ANTARIS crew will showcase the 24th edition of the ANTARIS PROJECT here.

A festival for your eyes, ears and heart! Best place to replenish your exhausted reserves on the ANTARIS festival is the SPIRITUAL CIRCLE. On the program: Yoga, massages, workshops and of course shopping and feasting at the market mile. The audience attending is highly international, relaxed and quite divers – just like the original spirit that is also the hallmark of the gathering. At night it gets down to party: The ANTARIS is a bombastic

fluorescent blacklight festival. The Mainfloor transforms into the ANTARIS UFO and gives the dancers access to a parallel world. Buju and his team are going to work eight months on this year's festival decoration to set up a planet universe for you. Magic Mike and Micha from EPS create a mega-light show while Martin Stebbing realises a completely new stage design, including video mapping. One thing is certain, the ANTARIS baits visitors with its first-class music concept. When the sound gets faster and harder on the Mainfloor, the Alternative Floor appears light and bright – and vice versa. A pretty nice balance! Last year's innovation doubles for this years edition. The outcome: a fat three-hour set from Quadrasonic and a Eat Static gig realised as an 8-point surround experience. For four days and three nights, the precious line-up predicts also many other great moments: The best of Progressive Trance will be presented by top acts like Ace Ventura, Egorythmia and Morten Granau. In addition,

an old-school afternoon with inter alia Astral Projectionis on the line up, too. Forest will this time be put on by Giuseppe and Uncle Dunkel. This year, there will also be a special show for techno fans: Merv from Eat Static and Nektarios Meintanis from Martian Arts will perform a live set as their new project named Strontium Dogs – without a computer and only with modular synthesizers. Warum stehen die XXL-Festivals denn eigentlich nicht auf der Festival Map?

Kommt der Sommer, heizt die mushroom magazine Festival Map die Vorfreude auf die Festivalsaison noch mal richtig an. Einige mushroom User fragen sich aber, warum sie die großen Psy-Festivals nicht finden. Hier die Antwort. Ob Events für Psy-Freaks in Ungarn und Tschechien, oder die Klassiker in Deutschland wie Indian Spirit und Antaris, sie stehen alle auf der mushroom magazine Festival Map in der Mitte jedes Heftes oder online unter mushroom-magazine.com/ festivalmap, weil sie euch, die Psy-Crowd, erreichen wollen. Doch einige der mushroom Leser fragen sich – und uns, vor allem auf Facebook – jedes Jahr wieder: Warum stehen meine liebsten XXL-Festivals schon wieder nicht auf der Festival Map? Jeder, der sich auf Festivals gerne mal der sommerlichen Wildheit hingibt, kennt diese Events. Aber warum listen wir diese super bekannten Psytrance-Festivals nicht? Verdammt noch mal!

Faires Umgehen mit allen Psy Festivals Wenn wir als engagierte mushroom-Crew an der Festival Map arbeiten, stellen wir uns alljährlich die Frage, wie wir mit allen Psy Festivals gleich fair umgehen können? Ob es fair wäre gegenüber kleineren Festivals, über die großen zu berichten und sie zu listen, obwohl manche Festivals kein Interesse an einer Zusammenarbeit haben? Ohne Zweifel bieten die ältesten und erfolgreichsten Festivals im Psytrance-Universum ein umfangreiches Angebot für Psy-Freaks, Tanzwütige und Traveller und es steht außer Frage, dass Deko und Lineup eigentlich immer der absolute Hammer sind. Dort spielen nicht

nur Top Acts auf wunderschönen Floors bei unvergleichlicher Stimmung, auch Angebote wie stetig weiterentwickelte Workshops und bunte Märkte zum Festival-Outfit-Shoppen oder super leckere Essensstände runden das Programm der Großevents ab. Aber manche glauben, wegen ihrer Größe quasi einen Anspruch auf Rund-um-Berichterstattung zu haben. Sie erwarten etwas für lau, für das sonst alle ihren Beitrag leisten. Also ausgerechnet diejenigen, deren Budgets alle Rahmen sprengen, wo jeder einzelne der Dutzenden von Top Acts viel mehr für einen einstündigen Auftritt bekommt, was eine ganzjährige redaktionelle Rund-um-Begleitung im mushroom kosten würde,

9 ausgerechnet diejenigen, bei denen die Umsätze Millionenbeträge erreichen, erwarten, dass wir und alle nicht so großen Festivals ihren Festival- oder Party-Eintrag quasi spenden. Würden wir sie umsonst aufnehmen, käme dies einer Bezuschussung der Großen durch die Kleinen gleich. Das erscheint uns nicht fair. Wir sähen in einer kostenfreien Aufnahme eine Benachteiligung der Kleinen. Derjenigen, die mit uns den Spirit hochhalten und leben. Sich trotz immenser Budgets diesen Beitrag zu sparen, sich in diesem Bereich bei minimaler Kostenersparnis über den Szenekonsens zu stellen und kostenlose Leistungen zu erwarten, ist nicht fair. Deshalb stehen manche der Großen nicht auf der Festival Map.

Psytrance-Festivals: We are one family! Ausgangspunkt unseres Handelns ist eben keineswegs ausschließlich ein fetziges, subkulturelles Heft rauszubringen, vielmehr wollen wir vernetzen, verbinden, Übersicht schaffen. Was kannst du tun, wenn dir ein Event auf der Map fehlt?

Wir als internationales Sprachrohr der Psy Szene kümmern uns von A bis Z um die professionelle Promotion und redaktionelle Betreuung kleiner wie großer Veranstaltungen. Letztendlich kostet das alles Geld. Wir wollen mit allen fair umgehen. Es funktioniert nur, wenn alle mitmachen.

Why are some XXL festivals not listed on the festival map?

When summer gets closer, the mushroom magazine Festival Map heats up the joy for the upcoming festival season. Though, several mushroom users wonder why they canâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t find the biggest events on the map. Here's the answer. Whether smaller events for Psy-freaks in Hungary and the Czech Republic, or the classics in Germany like Indian Spirit or Antaris, you find them on the mushroom magazine Festival Map in every magazine or online at mushroom-magazine.com/ festivalmap, because they want to reach you, the Psy-crowd. But some mushroom readers have been asking, especially on Facebook: why are my favourite XXL festivals not represented? Anyone who likes to revel in summer like rampancy on festivals knows these events, but why do these super famous Psytrance festivals not appear on the map, damn it!?

Dealing fairly with all Psy Festivals When we as a small, committed mushroom crew work on the festival map, every year we ask ourselves the question how we can deal with all Psy festivals equally fairly? Would it be fair to

report on the big festivals and list them, even though some of the big festivals donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t want any cooperation with us? Without a doubt, the oldest and most successful festivals in the Psytrance universe offer a wide range of events for Psy freaks, dance lovers and travellers; there's no doubt that decoration and lineup are always absolutely awesome. Not only do top acts play on wonderful floors in an incomparable atmosphere, moreover offers such as continuously developed workshops and colourful markets for festival outfit shopping or delicious food stands round off the programme of major events. But some people believe that they have a right to receive free all-round coverage because of their size. They expect something for free, something for which everyone else is making their contribution. So of all things it's those whose budgets go beyond all

bounds, where every single one of the dozens of top acts gets a multiple of what an all-year-round editorial support in the mushroom would cost, of all things it's those where turnover reaches millions, who expect that we and all much smaller festivals kind of donate their festival or party entry. The big players sort of demand solidarity-based reporting. If we were to incorporate them for nothing, this would be tantamount to subsidising the big ones by the small ones. That doesn't seem fair to us. In incorporating them for free we would see a disadvantage for the little ones. Those who live and breathe the Spirit with us. It is not fair to save this contribution in spite of immense budgets, to place oneself above the scene consensus in this area - despite minimal cost savings - and to expect free services. That's why the big ones are not on the festival map.

11 Psytrance-Festivals: We are one family! The starting point of our actions is by no means exclusively a racy, subcultural magazine, but rather we want to network, connect and create an overview. If we supported the big ones free of charge, that would harm the interests of the small ones. Solidarity among each other, togetherness, with many small, medium-sized and full-grown events has made our scene what it it is today. Our dedicated mushroom team of editors, web, social media and marketing experts, graphic artists, layouters, office elves, mail-order companies and other

shroomies have been working hard for the Psytrance scene for many years. We make our contribution to the spirit. As the international mouthpiece of the Psy scene, we take care of professional promotion and editorial support for both small and large events from A to Z. In the end everything costs money. We want to be fair with everyone. It only works if everyone participates.

Respect and fairness Together we keep our scene alive. It is about contact and exchange, about celebrating and dancing together, about

Backstage Koks, Nutten und 5 Sterne

Wir gehen mit unserer neuen Artikelserie in die zweite Runde: Ein anonymer Szene-Aktivist erzählt von den Stars im Business und über das, was hinter den Kulissen des Psytrance-Szene WIRKLICH abgeht.

Ein Vorteil hat das Internet mit seinen ganzen sozialen Netzwerken ja, wir bekommen viel mehr Feedback von euch Lesern als früher. Und deswegen plaudern wir seit der letzten Ausgabe mal ein bisschen aus dem Nähkästchen, denn einige Kommentare hören wir immer wieder: “Was ihr so alles über die Szene erzählt, ist ja schön und gut. Aber berichtet doch auch mal ein bisschen mehr über das, was sich im Hintergrund abspielt. Ihr kennt doch sicher Hinz & Kunz und könnt ein spannende Geschichten mit uns teilen!” Und ja, das trifft sich. Es hatten nämlich nicht nur viele von euch, unseren Lesern, diesen Wunsch, sondern auch wir in der Redaktion. Ganz so einfach ist es trotzdem nicht. Man muss erstmal jemanden finden, der ohne ein Blatt vor den Mund zu nehmen über den Backstage redet. Und hier haben wir direkt schon so eine erste, gern unterschlagene Tatsache: Im Musikgeschäft wird mit harten Bandagen gekämpft. Jeder

Nachwuchs-DJ, der gerne mal auf einer größeren Party auflegen möchte, kann ein Lied davon singen. Wer einmal einen gewissen Status erreicht hat, verteidigt ihn so gut es geht. Das Gesicht bzw. eine gewisse Coolness zu bewahren ist dabei extrem wichtig. Erst die etablierte Oberliga kann es sich wieder erlauben, auch mal laut und kritisch zu werden. Und genau aus dieser Oberliga haben wir nun eine Person herausgefischt. Ihren eigentlichen Künstlernamen will sie zwar nicht öffentlich nennen – aber gerade deswegen verspricht sie uns die ungeschminkte Wahrheit. Soviel sei verraten: Es handelt sich um eine Person aus der DJ- und Produzenten-Ecke, die sehr vielen von euch durch ihre zahlreichen internationalen Auftritte bekannt sein dürfte. Wir nennen sie an dieser Stelle auf eigenen Wunsch DJ Whistle Smoker* und hier kommt ihre neue Kolumne ‘Backstage’.

Bevor es mit dem neuesten Gossip los geht, möchte ich noch eines klären… Viele denken ja immer noch, im Backstage zu sein bedeutet immer sofort: Koks und Nutten, satt und für umme. Heute erzähle ich euch davon, dass das auch gerne mal stimmt. Doch wie geht hinter der Stage eigentlich zu, wenn die wirklich großen Stars anrücken? Na, allen wird schlagartig klar: Die großen Psytrance-Festivals sind keine niedlichen Hippie-Parties mehr, das ist ein richtig dickes Business geworden. Denn eins ist kein Geheimnis; Der engagierte Lokal-DJ spielt für sein Spritgeld und eine Hand voll Gästelistenplätze für die Crew. Der ambitionierte Main Act macht es allerdings meist nicht unter einem Aufenthalt im 5 Sterne Hotel und lässt sich –standesgemäß– mit der Limousine vom Flughafen abholen. Und in einem top Festival-Venue kommt man auch nicht einfach an, man wird vorgefahren. Einer der dicksten Fische der Psy-Szene hat es erst neulich im Hotelaufzug klar gemacht: Nach dem Auftritt geht es auf jeden Fall auch direkt wieder mit der Limo ins Hotel. Wenn die Party

13 ein Sternchen am Producer-Himmel neulich, hätte der Veranstalter sowieso noch voll Glück gehabt, dass der Artist zu dem Preis zugesagt hat. Beinahe hätte das mit dem Booking für dieses EDM-Festival nämlich noch geklappt, und da wäre die Gage sowieso zig mal höher ausgefallen. Dabei kommt eine schöne Rechnung heraus: Bei einer Gage von sagen wir mal 3000€ + 20% = 3600€ + Hotel und Flug – die Publikumsmagneten kommen nämlich ganz eindeutig lieber mit dem Mini-Jet als mit dem Mini-Van. Aber Luxus liebe ja nicht nur ich, sondern auch alle anderen, die es dank des Internets inzwischen zu richtig was gebracht haben.

Vor der Anreise im Deluxe-Resort und der spektakulären Ankunft an der Festival-Location (irgendwo in der Pampa) muss erstmal das Booking über die Bühne gehen. Das ist bei den Durchschnitts-DJs für gewöhnlich mit ein-zwei Anrufen und ein paar Mails getan. Dabei werden dann gerne noch ein paar mehr Gästelistenplätze rausgehandelt. Der Vertrag wird dann höchstens noch mit einem persönlichen Handschlag garniert. Bei mir und meinen Kollegen läuft das allerdings ein bisschen anders. Da ist es gar nicht so leicht einen Vertrag auszuhandeln. Auf jeden Fall dauert es, denn der Sterne-DJ lässt sich gerne bitten und checkt vorher noch mal ab, welches Festival an welchem Datum eigentlich am besten zahlt. Hat ein Event schließlich den Zuschlag bekommen, gibt es ruckzuck auch noch 20% Aufschlag für den Booker und natürlich 100% Vorkasse, weil: Diesmal hat ein neuer Veranstalter die Zusage gekriegt und da geht man lieber auf Nummer sicher. Dank Social Media, Soundcloud, Spotify & Co wird Musik heutzutage zwar eher gestreamt, aber der Bekanntheitsgrad der DJs und Producer ist vor allem international gesehen viel größer. Fast jeder kommt ja übers Internet an den Sound ran. Deswegen gibts inzwischen auch keine üppigen Vorschüsse für ein neues Album mehr (autsch, bei dem Thema zwickt's immer noch

jedem, der mal aufgetreten ist), aber die Gagen sind jetzt eben auch dementsprechend höher. Die Party-Gäste zahlen also indirekt meine aktuellen Releases mit – danke dafür, auf CDs kann man inzwischen echt verzichten. Ein Klischee, stimmt aber mit Sicherheit: Es werden immer mehr abgefahrene Sonderwünsche geäußert. Da heißt es auch mal ganz lässig, es müssten schon Ketamin und zumindest ein paar knackige Mädels am Start sein, wenn es endlich Richtung Auftritt, aber vorher natürlich in den Backstage geht. Um das Unterhaltungsprogramm hinter der Bühne zu garantieren sind natürlich Tour Raider immer cool. Da kann man den Veranstaltern einfach vorschreiben, was unbedingt am Start sein muss. Krasse Drogen, um sich vor dem Gig noch abzuschießen, stehen da ehrlich gesagt fast nie drin, denke ich, aber im letzten Jahr hatte ich einfach aus Spaß mal reingeschrieben, dass im Hotel 2kg M&Ms stehen sollen. Aber nur die roten. Und, ey, die haben das echt gemacht!

Location schon nicht in einer angesagten Großstadt liegt, ist der Shuttle-Service von über 100km für den Artist natürlich inklusive, weil es erst in der nächst größeren Stadt ein stylishes Hotel gibt. Ganz salopp fügt er noch hinzu: "Beim letzten Mal hatte der Veranstalter nicht daran gedacht uns eine solide Stärkung im Restaurant klarzumachen. Da haben wir uns einfach den Room-Service kommen lassen und das auf den Veranstalter gebucht. Ist zwar viel teurer, aber er ist doch selber Schuld, wenn er nicht selber an die Reservierung denkt." Und wer jetzt glaubt hier sei das Thema Luxus und Extrawürste erschöpft, irrt. Es geht erst richtig los…

Second round for our new series of articles: An anonymous scene activist talks about the stars in the business and about what is REALLY going on behind the scenes of the Psytrance scene.

A huge advantage of the Internet is its social networks. Since we’re all online, mushroom magazine is getting a whole lot of feedback from you, our public. And this is why we are going to respond to the most frequently asked questions like ‘What you tell us about the Psy-scene is cool, but I would love to know more about what's going behind the scenes. As you surely know some insider, could you share more exciting stories and gossip with us?!’ And this fits in very well. The desire to share some fun stories and little secrets about what’s going on the backstage is not only yours, the editorial department thinks that’s a great idea, too. That might seem easy in the first place, but it’s actually not. First of all, you have to find somebody who would speaks openly. And here we

learn a first thing: The music business is a tough place. Any young DJ who would like to play a big party can tell. Those who achieve a superior status want to keep a good reputation. Saving face and a certain amount of coolness is extremely important to these kind of people. Only the champions league of dj-ing can raise their voice and be critical from now and then. And in this upper league we managed to find a person who would talk. We can’t leak the official stage name - but instead we can tell you the actual truth. We'll only say this much: It’s a person from the Psytrance scene, who already has done quite a number of international performances. We have a new version of a Whistle Smoker* and here we go for a new episode of the column 'Behind The Scenes'.

Before we bring the latest gossip, I would like make one thing clear. Many people still think that hanging out backstage means always: coke and hookers en masse. Today I need to let you know, that this is actually very true. But what is going on behind the scenes, when the real superstar arrives? Well, everyone immediately realises: The big Psytrance festivals are no cute little hippie parties anymore. The music scene has become big business. An this is why one thing is no longer a secret; The dedicated local DJ plays for his money and can put a handful of friends or crew members on a guest list. Whereas the ambitious Main Act needs at least a stay over in a 5 star hotel and –befitting his or her status– must be picked up by a limousine shuttle service from the airport. In a top festival venue you can not just ‘arrive’, it must be the great entrance. Of course. One of the biggest fish of the Psy scene has recently made a pretty clear statement in the hotel elevator:

‘After the show, we’ll definitely head directly back to the hotel – with the limousine. If the party location is already not set up in a trendy city, the shuttle service of more than 100km for the artist is of course included. The only stylish hotels are found in the next larger city, so this is a must for the organisers. Quite casually speaking, he adds: "Last time, the organiser had not even thought of making a reservation in a restaurant for me and my crew. So, although it’s way more expensive we just ordered the room service and booked it on the organiser. Its his own fault anyways, if he doesn’t think about the reservation himself. " And who now thinks that the luxury subject can be closed, goes wrong. That was just the start ... Before the arrival in the deluxe resort and the spectacular performance at the festival location (somewhere in the middle of nowhere), the booking procedure has to be managed. The average DJs does this with one-two calls and a handfull of emails. He or she would be happy to negotiate even a few more people on the guest list. The only thing the contract is garnished with, is then most likely a personal handshake. For me and my colleagues that procedure is handled a little differently. First if all, negotiating a contract with starlets is not easy. In any case, it takes time, because the star DJ is happy to ask and check out priorly which festival on which date actually pays off the best. If an event has finally been awarded the contract, there will instantly be a charge of 20% extra money for the booker and, of course, a full payment in advance. Why so? This time, the festival organiser was

new and there it’s bette to be on the safe side, regarding the cash flow. Anyways, one of the newbies in the major league of DJs said the other day, the organiser would still have been lucky that the artist has agreed to his booking as it almost would have worked out with the booking for the trance floor of this super successful EDM festival. And these kind of events would have paid al least three times more. That makes quite a nice addition: At a fee of say from, let’s say, 3000 € + 20% = 3600 € + hotel and flight… and the celebrities clearly prefer arriving in a mini-jet than with a mini-van. But not only I fall for luxury, all the others who’ve made it (thanks to the internet) to the top of resident advisor, love it, too. Thanks to social media, Soundcloud and Spotify, we stream music nowadays, but the need of glory and honour among DJs and producers is constantly growing – especially on an international level. Almost everyone can access music from the internet. That's why there are now no payments in

advance anymore (ouch, that kind of topic still aches still a little). But luckily the fees are now accordingly higher. Actually the party guests pay indirectly for the current releases I will present during the show. Thanks for that, you can really create a career without discs and vinyl’s today. One cliché is certainly true: There are more and more crazy or special requests expressed in the Psy-business today than ever before. Sometimes it is not unusual that there’s already ketamine, some drinks and at least a few hot chicks on the table, when a Main Act enters the backstage. Of course, Tour Raiders are pretty cool to guarantee the entertainment behind the scenes. Since you can simply order the stuff that must necessarily be set up. But honestly, hard drugs before the gigs are almost never officially asked for. Nevertheless, last year, I said just for fun that the hotel should have 2kg of M&Ms waiting in my room when I get there. But only the red ones. And, hey, they really did!

Im 23 year old, and kinda concerned with my state of life dr. Goa...Im loving the whole Psytrance scene, love the parties and the community, although most of my frends aren't into it. Matter of fact they are getting maried, having kids, proper jobs, while I'm living with my parents, leeching on their money, and spending it on drugs, and tie-dyed t-shirts. Greetings! Your concept of a “proper job” seems to be seriously messed up. You have to understand that in real reality, there is only three kinds of proper jobs: Artist, yoga teacher or philosopher. Now who of your fancy-pants friends has this kind of job? Your job at that evil corporation-ruled fast food chain might suck, but be assured: The jobs of those friends suck just as hard! Also your concept of “proper education” appears to be a result of governmental brainwashing: The best academy for proper education and even wisdom is, of course, the dance floor. Honestly, it seems like you have to dig much deeper into the scene to really understand the meaning of life!

Hallo Dr. Goa! Ich wollte dich fragen, warum passiert es immer wieder, vor allem bei hi-tech oder bei Captain Hook, dass man als Intro und vor einem Drop einen kurzen Dubstepteil reinmischt? Die meisten Leute feiern das nicht und die 2 oder 3 armen Gestalten, welche sich hinreißen lassen, werden mit verurteilenden Blicken bestraft. Wieso gibt es überhaupt so viele Producer, die solche Parts für eine gute idee halten? Eine sehr gute Frage! Sie ist im Grunde direkt verbunden mit einer anderen Frage: Bist du elitär genug? Es ist nämlich so: Tief im Herzen sind all die Top-Artists da draußen ziemlich elitäre Vögel. Will heißen: Eigentlich wollen sie immer wieder was neues, was anderes. Aber sie haben - anders als Newcomer DJs und Underground-Künstler - auch verstanden, dass das Leben eben doch ein Wunschkonzert ist und

dass sie die Wünsche des Publikums erfüllen müssen, um da zu bleiben, wo sie sind. Auch sehnen sie sich insgeheim nach noch mehr Ruhm und Groupies, deshalb imitieren sie halt den Skrillex. Die Dubstep-Einlagen sind quasi ein Hilfeschrei. Das gleiche gilt für die von dir trefflich als “arme Gestalten” beschriebenen Vögel, die auf sowas reinfallen – absolut inakzeptables Verhalten für einen echten Trancer!

DR.GOA Hi Dr. Goa, I have the following question: Why does it happen so often, especially in the world of Hi-Tech and Captain Hook, that they have a dubstep Intro or that they use dubstep parts before a drop. Most of the party people really don't dig it, and those poor 2 or 3 who do and raise their arms are looked upon as losers. Why are there so many producers who think it is a good idea to use these parts?

A very good question! It's actually connected to another question: Are you elitist enough? Here's the deal: Deep down all those top artists out there are real elitists. Artsy elitists, that is. Actually they always want something new, something different. But, and this makes them different from newcomer DJs and underground producers, they also understood that they got to deliver, they have to meet the expectations of their audience. Deep down they also want more fame and more groupies, and that's why they immitate Skrillex. Those dubstep parts are a call for help. The same goes for those indeed very poor guys who actually dig it – which is, of course, absolutely unacceptable for a true Trancer!

Neuigkeiten vom legendären Club Charlotte Im Laufe der nächsten Monate ist das Insolvenzverfahren hoffentlich endlich abgewendet, die Gespräche darüber laufen aktuell noch. Die Dankeschöns, die es für alle Crowdfunder gab, werden in diesen Wochen entweder verteilt oder sind bereits verschickt worden. Doch da danach noch einige Fallstricke lauern und für den Fall, dass es für die Lotte an der Location, aus welchen Gründen auch immer, nicht mehr weitergehen sollte, erhalten übrigens alle Crowdfunder trotzdem ihr Geld zurück. Also Daumen drücken, dass alles gut läuft und wir bald wieder in dieser tollen Location feiern können. Haltet zudem die Augen offen, da in Münster von Zeit zu Zeit vom Club Charlotte mitorganisierte Parties stattfinden.

Demos für legale Open-Airs

In Köln und Bonn finden am 7.April zwei parallel ablaufende Demos für die Einrichtung von Orten, an denen spontane, kostenlose Open-Airs legal veranstaltet werden dürfen, statt. In anderen Städten, z.B. Bremen gibt es solche Orte schon länger. Und alleine schon eine Diskussion über den Sinn solcher Orte ist ein großer Erfolg. Natürlich hat die Szene auch gewisse Verantwortungen, was z.B. Müll und Lautstärke betrifft, aber wenn mehr Städte kulturellen Freiraum ermöglichen, ist dies natürlich eine Möglichkeit für all diejenigen, die nicht kommerzielle Events veranstalten wollen und bisher Probleme bei der Locationfindung hatten.

Progressive Sounds aus London

Großbritannien hat eine lange Psytrance Tradition, in dieser Tradition steht auch das vor neun Jahren gegründete Label Furthur Progressions. Die guten Freunde Gründer Hamish und Bedders, haben seit Anfang der 2000er Jahre selbst Parties organisiert. Die beiden wollten aber noch etwas mehr zu der sehr innovativen und kreativen britischen Musikszene beitragen und so wurde Further Progressions gegründet.

Das Label steht allem für groovige progressive Sounds. Im Jahr 2009 erschien mit London Landscapes das erste Release des Labels. Der Titel weist schon auf die Herkunft des in London beheimateten Labels hin, das in den letzten Jahren einige interessante Künstler und Vertrag genommen hat wie z.B. Multiphase und N.A.S.A. Wir haben mit Labelchef Hamish über aktuelle Pläne, das Label und die britischen Psytranceszene geredet.

Furthur Progressions ist in der besten Form seit der Gründung. Wir haben uns in den letzten 2 Jahren sehr stark auf die Beständigkeit und Qualität unserer Veröffentlichungen konzentriert, was vorher nicht wirklich möglich war. Es gibt einen guten Ausgleich zwischen unserer Musik und der Erweiterung unserer musikalischen Perspektiven – wir haben neue Klanghorizonte entdeckt, angefangen bei den Ambient- und Downtempo-Vibes von Essence Project, einem fantastischen israelischen Produzenten, über die tiefen psychedelischen Klänge von Futurá und Inference, bis hin zu den Psy-progressiven Klängen unserer neuen und etablierten Künstler. Das Ergebnis ist eine musikalische Mischung, mit der wir unheimlich

zufrieden sind und die überall auf dem Globus genossen und zu der weltweit getanzt wird. Unsere Künstler sind mit Auftritten beschäftigt und wir organisieren einige aufregende Events in London.

Ihr veranstaltet neben der Labelarbeit auch Partys, was habt ihr für 2018 so geplant?

Wir haben auch Crews wie Psymera & Secret Soma, die immer großartige Partys organisieren, und die Festivalszene in Großbritannien ist so stark wie eh und je, wobei das Noisily Festival die Hauptrolle spielt. Es ist viel los und es ist toll dabei zu sein!

Auch in London und im Vereinigten Königreich kommt es zu einem Wiederaufleben von Partys und Veranstaltungen. Die Begeisterung für Psy Trance und Psy Progressive hat sich nicht verändert, aber wir haben in den

Furthur Progressions is in the best shape it has been since launch. We’ve had a real focus over the past 2 years on the consistency and quality of our releases, something that wasn’t really possible before. There’s a great balance in our music and expansion in our horizons – we’ve been discovering new horizons of sound from the ambient and downtempo vibes of Essence Project, a fantastic

Israeli producer, to the deep psychedelic sounds of Futurá and Inference, to the Psy progressive sounds of our new and established artists. The result is a catalogue of music that we’re incredibly happy with and that is being enjoyed and danced to around the world. Our artists are busy with gigs and we have some exciting events happening in London. Life in Furthur Progressions is happening!

In addition to the label work, you also organise parties, what do you have planned for 2018?

London and the UK is also seeing a resurgence of parties and events. The passion for Psytrance

and Psy progressive has not changed, but we have seen a lull in good venues over the past couple of years which has had a knock-on effect. But now things are back in full swing! Recently we held the Ozora - One Day in London event which has an amazing celebration, I’m working with VooV to bring their magic to London in April, and a Furthur Progressions label event on 12th May. We also have organisations such as Psymera & Secret Soma who are always delivering fantastic parties, and the festival scene in the UK is as strong as ever, with Noisily Festival leading the charge. There is much happening and it’s great to be involved!

ELECTRIC POWER POLE RECORDS c Die siebte Ausgabe der Tech Tales VA Reihe erscheint demnächst bei Electri Power Pole, Grund genug das australische Label, seine Geschichte und seinen Sound mal genauer in Augenschein zu nehmen. Ein Start in der Natur Alles fing damit an, dass zwei Freunde Paul Anzellotti und Robert Dilley, ab dem Jahr 2002, kleine private Bush-Partys in der Umgebung von Sydney veranstalteten und begannen selbst gebrannte CDs von lokalen Künstlern auf diesen Parties verteilten. Daraus entstand dann 2004 ein eigenes Label, die Idee dahinter war den lokalen Sound in möglichst viele Teile der Welt zu tragen: Electric Power Pole war geboren.

Deutschland lebte und dort mit elektronischer Musik in Berührung kam, zeigt sich recht deutlich in vielen Releases des Labels, so sind über die Jahre Namen wie Radioactive.Cake, Sonic Tickle oder auf dem aktuellsten Release Peter Großkreuz auf Veröffentlichungen von Electric Pole Records zu hören gewesen. Location: 2 Hours From Sydney Das erste Release war auch gleich nach der Herkunft des Labels benannt: Location: 2 Hours From Sydney, was auf die recht ungenauen Ortsangabe bei den kleinen Bush Partys anspielt, da man erst nach Anruf einer Hotline den genauen Ort mitgeteilt bekam. Vier Jahre und einige VAs später erschien mit Realization (von Third Drop Reflection) das erste Album auf dem Label, seitdem hat neben der Anzahl auch die Releasefrequenz des Labels deutlich zugelegt.

Das neueste Release des Labels präsentiert die gesamte musikalische Bandbreite des Labels, und obwohl die VA von einem Dänen, Muggi Dane zusammengestellt wurde, klingt doch der ursprünglich australische Sound an einigen Stellen durch. Tech Tales 7 ist aber gleichzeitig ein sehr durchdachtes Stück Musik, das in sich geschlossen sehr stimmig klingt und zudem einige sehr kreative Künstler wie z.B. Sourone, Jossie Telch oder den Mann mit dem besten Künstlernamen überhaupt, Käse Kochen (wenn auch als Louis M Remix) featured. Für jeden der Interesse an psychedelischem Techno hat, ist diese VA quasi ein Pflichtkauf und jeder der Bock auf richtig gute Musik hat, sollte auf jeden Fall zumindest mal reinhören. Wenn das der Sound für Alternative/ Technofloors in diesem Jahr wird, dürften es Mainfloors sehr schwer haben.

The seventh edition of the Tech Tales VA series will soon be released by Electric Power Pole Records. Reason enough to take a closer look at the Australian label, its history and sound. A Start in Nature Everything began in 2002 with two friends organising small private bush parties (Doofs) in the area around Sydney and starting to distribute homemade CDs by local artists. In 2004 this idea went to the next level, a new label was created. The idea behind it was to carry the local sound to as many parts of the world as possible: Electric Power Pole was born.

Location: 2 Hours From Sydney The first release was also named after the origin of the label: Location: 2 Hours From Sydney, which alludes to the rather inaccurate location at the small Bush parties, because the exact location was only passed to you after calling a hotline. Four years and a number of VAs later, Realization (by Third Drop Reflection) was the first album to be released on the label, and since then the release frequency of the label has increased considerably.

German musical influence noticeably perceptible The fact that Paul Anzellotti, one of the founders of the label, lived in Germany for some time and got in touch with electronic music there is clearly evident in many releases of the label. Over the years names like Radioactive, Cake, Sonic Tickle or on the latest release Peter GroĂ&#x;kreuz have been featured on releases of Electric Pole Records. You could describe the sound of the label as

zenonesque. In the meantime, however, Paul has returned to Australia and lives in the Blue Mountains, whereas Robert has his home base in Barcelona.

From Sydney to the World The label's sound had spread all over the world from Sydney, as desired by the founders, but also returned to Australia and that's exactly what you can see when you look at the label's releases nowadays. Of course, the sound has evolved further, but it is still as innovative and psychedelic as in the beginning, except the artists don't just come from Sydney or Australia but from all over the world.

Tech Tales 7 The label's latest release presents the entire musical range of the label and although the VA was put together by a Danish composer, Muggi Dane, the original Australian style glimpses out at some points. Tech Tales 7 is at the same time a very well thought-out piece of music, which sounds very coherent in itself and also features some very creative artists such as Sourone, Jossie Telch or the man with the best artist name ever KĂ¤se Kochen (although as Louis M Remix). For everyone who is interested in psychedelic techno this VA is a must-buy and anyone who wants to listen to really good music should at least check it out. If this will be the sound for Alternative/Techno floors this year, it will be very hard for Main floors to compete with that.

Indian Spirit & Psychedelic Circus founder "Pizza" didn't survive blood cancer Es war Anfang der 2000er, als ich Christian zum ersten Mal traf. Das war damals ein ziemlich großes Ding für mich, denn ich war ein junger DJ in meiner Sturm & Drang Phase und er der Veranstalter von gleich zwei richtig großen Festivals: Psychedelic Circus und Indian Spirit. Ich erinnere mich wie entspannt und unverkrampft er damals auf mich wirkte, obwohl er eine wirklich große Nummer im Szenegeschehen war. Später erkannte ich darin die Ruhe von jemandem, der schon echt viel erlebt hat. Im Laufe der Jahre hatte ich das Vergnügen, immer wieder eng mit ihm zusammenzuarbeiten. Pizza, wie er von den meisten genannt wurde, hatte seine Hände in unglaublich vielen verschiedenen Projekten, von kleineren Lokal-Events bis hin zu fetten, internationalen Open Airs. Trotzdem drängte er sich nie ins Rampenlicht – er hatte einfach Spass an der Sache, sei es als Veranstalter oder DJ Synchron. Dass er mit seinen Unternehmungen erfolgreich war, darauf bildete er sich nichts ein. Das habe ich an ihm immer besonders geschätzt. Später wurde er Vater und zog sich nach und nach aus der Psytrance-Ecke zurück. Doch das, was die berühmte

norddeutsche Szene heute ist, das ist zu guten Teilen sein Erbe. Blutkrebs. Das war die schockierende Diagnose. Die massive Unterstützung, die Pizza bei der daraufhin ausgerufenen Suche nach einem Stammzellen-Spender erfuhr, sprach für sich: Er wurde von seiner Familie und seinen Freunden, von den Mecklenburger Locals und von der internationalen Szene geschätzt und geliebt. Leider trat er seine letzte Reise dennoch viel zu früh an. Er war ein echt feiner Kerl. Wir vermissen ihn. Roberdo Raval ----I first met Christian in the early 2000s. It was a pretty big thing for me back then, because I was an aspiring young DJ and he was the organiser of two major festivals: Psychedelic Circus and Indian Spirit. I remember how down-to-earth and easy-going he appeared, even though he was one of the big players of the scene. Later I recognised that this was the mindset of somebody who's got a whole lot of life experience. During the years to follow I was lucky enough to work closely together with him in various projects. Pizza, as he was called by

Rest in most people, was involved in a multitude of different ventures, from small local events to huge open air festivals. However, he never sought the limelight – he just enjoyed what he was doing, be it as an organiser or as DJ Synchron. He never got high on his success, and that is something I really liked about him. Later he became a father and little by little stepped back from the world of Psytrance. Still a good part of what is today known as the famous North German scene is his heritage.

Blood cancer. That was the shocking diagnosis. A search for a stem cell donor was launched, and the massive support for this campaign speaks for itself: His family, his friends, the locals of his hometown and the international scene loved Pizza. Driss 1973 - 2018

Hadra founder "Driss" passed away and left a great heritage not only to the French Psytrance community

n Peace Vor mehr als 17 Jahren gründeten Driss und einige seiner Freunde Hadra. Er war zutiefst davon überzeugt, dass der Schlüssel unserer gemeinsamen Zukunft in der menschlichen Natur, in der Großzügigkeit, in der Vielfalt, in der Akzeptanz füreinander läge. Die Psytrance-Kultur war schon immer seine Familie, seine Musik, seine Leidenschaft. Hadra zu gründen war seine Mission und sein Wille, den Werten und Menschen des Psy mehr Respekt und einen wohlverdienten Sitz in einer globalisierten und egozentrischen Gesellschaft zu bieten.

Driss ist zu einem Wegweiser für all jene geworden, die seinen Weg kreuzten, weit über die Welt der Trance-Musik hinaus. Er war ein echter Wegbereiter, ein Aufzüchter neuer Talente, gefüllt mit Kühnheit, um jedes Projekt, an das er glaubte, bis zur Blüte zu

stimulieren. Er war hingebungsvoll, aufmerksam, eifrig, er strahlte Glück auf alle um ihn herum aus. Er hatte eine starke Persönlichkeit, war aber bescheiden und freundlich. Widrigkeiten stellte er sich stets mit Herz und Entschlossenheit und kämpfte bis zum Schluss. Driss verlässt uns jetzt, unsere Herzen sind voller Leere und Traurigkeit, aber reich an einem wunderbaren Erbe, das uns viel über das Leben in Harmonie erzählt. Dieses Erbe ist eine große farbenfrohe Familie, nicht immer synchron, aber von derselben Leidenschaft geleitet. Dein Erbe ist Hadra und wir werden es fortbetreiben, stets geleitet von deinem Licht, Driss. "Take great care Amigo !" ----More than 17 years ago, Driss and some friends of his founded Hadra. He was utterly convinced that the key of our common future could be found in human nature, in generosity, in diversity, in the acceptance of each other. Psytrance culture had always been

his family, his music, his passion. Founding Hadra was the way of his mission and of his will to offer to Psy values and people more respect and a well-deserved seat in a globalised and self-centered society. Driss has become a guide to all those who crossed his path and much beyond the world of trance music. He was a real trailblazer, a raiser of new talents filled with audacity to stimulate every project he believed in until its blossoming. He was devoted, attentive, keen, he exuded happiness onto everyone around him. He had a strong personality but was humble and kind. He always faced adversity with heart and resolution, and fought until the end. Driss leaves us now with our hearts filled with emptiness and sadness but rich in a wonderful legacy that tells us a lot about living in harmony. This heritage is a great colourful family, not always in sync, but led by the same passion. Your heritage is Hadra and we'll keep developing it always guided by your light, Driss. Die Kunst von Dennis Konstantin Bax in eine bestimmte Schublade zu stecken ist schwierig. Auf der Suche nach einer neuen Ausdrucksform, dem sog. „gequanteltem Realismus“, vereint der Künstler, die Suche nach der inneren Struktur der Dinge mit der explosiven Kraft des Spontanen und Unmittelbaren Konstantins eigenwilliger Stil ist eine Symbiose zahlreicher Strömungen. Seine Bilder vereinen die inneren Struktur der Dinge mit der explosiven Kraft des Spontanen und Unmittelbaren. Aus den unendlichen Eindrücken des Informationszeitalters erschafft er etwas gänzlich Neues. Die Grenzen von Figuration und Abstraktion, Traum und Realität verwischen. Spirituelle Einsicht trifft auf Graffiti, Punk-Attitüde und Neon-Reklame. Dominant ist der Ausdruck des Wandels, des Übergangs. Die Welt im Fluss der Zeit. Beflügelt von der Quantenphysik, verwebt er Formen aus dem Abstraktem, dem spontanen Unbekannten. Der Wiener Phantast Prof. Ernst Fuchs nannte sie einst einfach “Fenster zur Unendlichkeit”.

Konstantin's distinctive and whimsical style is a symbiosis of numerous trends. His paintings unite the inner structure of things with the explosive power of the spontaneous and immediate. He scoops his inspiration from the vast ocean of impressions of the information age he creates something completely new. The borders between figurative and abstract, dream and reality are blurring. Spiritual insight meets graffiti, punk attitude and neon advertising. Dominant is the expression of change, of transition. The world in the flow of time. Inspired by quantum physics, he interweaves forms from the abstract, the spontaneous unknown. Skilled, visual links in the composition of the image, gradually merge the fragmented and thus simulate the all-encompassing, vibrating field of form that permeates and animates our world. His characters are constantly in search of individual freedom, beyond the established thought patterns of our society. “My paintings are the dynamic expression of a subtle and intangible world, from which all the material phenomena of ours originate”, says the artist himself about his artwork. The great visionary Prof. Ernst Fuchs once just called them “Windows to Infinity”.

Dunkler Hilltop für Freunde schnelleren Sounds Der erst seit letztem Jahr eingeführte Hilltop bietet eine bunte Auswahl schnellerer und dunklerer Sounds, neben Darkprog läuft auf dem vom Loop String Art Collective dekorierten Floor auch Forest und HighTech. Acts wie Krumelur, Lurker, Back to Mars oder Cracked Nozes stehen für das seit Jahre sehr gute Booking des Waldfriedens. Der Alternative Floor ist vor allem dem psychdelischen Techno vorbehalten. For sure, WAO festival is much more than a Psytrance party: its Healing Area, Sacred Space and Cultural Space offer a variety of workshops. In general, WAO Festival wants to spread environmental awareness and let their participants feel that they are part of the natural environment hosting them. “Last year we won the tender for the management of the park where the festival takes place for 12 years. We are actively working on the land, organising cultural events and workshops all year round. Our aim is to create the first eco-architecture park in Italy“, the organisers explain.

The team wants to concoct a sublime vibe with the same simplicity of production, great music and a great location as Freedom Festival 2005. Scheduled to play are international top artists as Astral projection, Crazy Astronaut, Kindzadza, Laughing Buddha, Cosmosis, Dust, Southwild, Disco Volante, Vertical Mode, Megalopsy, Zigurat, Iron Lotus,

E-Mov, among many others. Simon aka Psy-Pix and Mae & Moa and Vj Wixarica Visions will supply swell decoration. A tipi hotel and a healing area are in the making as well. Seeds of Freedom will feature a camping area with pine trees plus an abundance of water. From the train station of the nearest town, Celorico da Beira a shuttle will be provided to the festival location close to an old granite village. While by car it's only a 10 minutes drive from motorway A25. Everything is set for a splendid festival not only dedicated to lovers of chillout music, but to all those who believe in the universal language of Psytrance, Peace and Love. Das familienfreundliche Psy-Event kombiniert im Zuge der Healing Week ein ganzheitliches Programm für Groß und Klein mit einem Musikfestival. Für Stimmung sorgen am Wochenende angesagte Acts von Psytrance bis Weltmusik. Entspannung findest du hier im Hängemattenparadies und am Badesee. Während der Healing Days gibt es in der Healing Area von Montag bis Sonntag ein Wohlfühlprogramm mit holistischem Ansatz: Workshops und Anwendungen, Schamanen und Bühnen bieten die Möglichkeit Themen zu erkunden, die moderne Hippies, Traveller und die Psy-Community inspirieren. Besucher des Tipi Town können sich hier zu Spiritualität, mentaler Wellness und Gesundheit austauschen oder einfach die Seele baumeln lassen. Mit Estas Tonne macht ein New-Healing-Klassiker die Healing Stage festivaltauglich.

Am Healing Weekend, von Freitag bis Sonntag, verwandelt sich das Festival in einen Ort, an dem Musik und Inspiration eins werden. Die beiden Floors der Celebration Area sind dann das absolute Highlight. Psytrance DJs und Live-Acts sorgen auf dem Trance Floor und auf dem Electronica Floor für musikalische Ekstase. Tribal-Rhythmen und satte Beats heben die Partystimmung auf ein Maximum. Die ersten bestätigten Headliner X-Dream, Electric Universe, Solarfields und Total Eclipse sorgen für beste Psy-Sounds.
