THE EAGLE HUNTRESS
G • 1h 27m • UK 12/27, 12/28 @ 7pm This documentary follows Aisholpan, a 13-year-old girl, as she trains to become the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter, and rises to the pinnacle of a tradition that has been handed down from father to son for centuries. Set against the breath-taking expanse of the Mongolian steppe, the film features some of the most awe-inspiring cinematography ever captured in a documentary, giving this intimate tale of a young girl's quest the dramatic force of an epic narrative film.
SEASONS
PG • 1h 37m • France (subtitled) 1/3, 1/4, 1/5 @ 7pm Winged Migrations and Oceans filmmakers Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud return to the lush forests that emerged across Europe following the last Ice Age. Winter had gone on for 80,000 years when, in a short period of time the ice retreated, the cycle of seasons was established, and the beasts occupied their new kingdom. With its exceptional footage of animals in the wild, the film is an awe-inspiring and thought-provoking tale of the long shared history that binds humankind with the natural world.
LOVING
PG13 • 2h 3m • US 1/6, 1/7, 1/11 @ 7pm; 1/8 @ 4pm From acclaimed writer/director Jeff Nichols, Loving celebrates the real-life courage and commitment of an interracial couple, Richard and Mildred Loving (portrayed by Joel Edgerton and Ruth Negga), who married and then spent the next nine years fighting for the right to live as a family in their hometown. Their civil rights case, Loving v. Virginia, went all the way to the Supreme Court, which in 1967 reaffirmed the very foundation of the right to marry - and their love story has become an inspiration to couples ever since.
