Learn to give music the meaning you want it to have
MUSIC At the Music course you will acquire knowledge about the many nuances of the musical world. Our main focus lies on interplay, ensemble and rhythmic music. The repertoire may embrace genres such as rock, jazz, soul, funk, blues, folk etc. During the course, we will work and elaborate on arrangement, improvisation, technique, tone and groove. To put it briefly, you will get the opportunity to gain an insight into all the nooks and corners of rhythmic music. At the Music course you will attain both sound knowledge and lively experiences, which will become a supportive companion onwards in your musical career.
Our goal is to create well-rounded musicians – not just instrumentalists. You will be a part of several ensembles and sessions of various interplays, where you will have the opportunity to unfold all your musical potentials. Once a week there is room for a special rehearsal, where you and your band can take charge. In addition to the interplay amongst the musicians, we encourage collaborations with the other courses of the school. In cooperation with Electronic Music students you can create a unique soundscape that will add a new dimension to your music. The singers will regularly join in and together we shape both the form and content of the pieces.
You may compose for a theatre-, dance- or contemporary circusperformance while the sound technicians ensure the quality of the sound. During the collaborative projects, where we will be working across the courses, you will have the opportunity to lay down the instrument for a moment and bloom as an actor, dancer, sound technician or a sound designer. The sky is the limit. At the Music course we work in a warm environment where we considerately will take every students level into account. Whether your starting point is at a basic level or you aim at a professional level, we will be focusing on your musical development.
THE COURSE may include:
MUSIC THEORY and EAR TRAINING
Music theory will focus on giving you a solid theoretical foundation, so as to improve your capabilities in improvisation and arrangement, your analytic skills and note learning abilities etc. Ear training naturally supplements theory and makes it audible. Regardless your musical background, you will receive teachings that correspond to your competences.
SONG, PLAY and MOVEMENT
This field aims at improving your sense of rhythm. We will experiment with imitation, sense of pulse and period, dance, drums and vocal/body percussion. In other words we will strengthen the coordination between your voice, body and instrument.
MUSIC CULTURE
Rhythmic music has a rich history filled with anecdotes, stories and tales. We listen to records, watches movie clips and broadens our horizons in all directions to the inspiration of your own musical unfolding.
COMPOSITION
An important part of the teaching is to compose you own material for a tour. We will base our composing activities on open calls and various exercises. Maybe you already wrote a song or have one at the tip of your tongue, which we can complete or maybe new material emerge during rehearsal. We listen, arrange, experiment, discuss and play until we are content with the result.
TOUR and LIVE PERFORMANCE
By the end of the course we arrange a tour, visiting venues throughout the country. The tour gives you a taste of life on the road. The weeks before the tour you will be working intensely with both your musical- and stageperformance. We cooperate with the other courses and compose original music from scratch.
RECORDING
When our songs are thoroughly prepared, we will record them in our studio. The sound technicians will mix and master the audio, so that you can keep it in digital format and professional quality. Your music will be recorded both in the studio and live.
IN GENEREL
The course takes place in the music house. Here you find our three big and bright rehearsal facilities and our recording studios equipped with professional gear. Here you will find the traditional instruments at your disposal, but also odd and specially designed instruments, which may trigger your creative urge. All of the facilities are accessible round the clock. Furthermore the music course collaborates with the Danish music academies, MGK (a musical basic course) and we often have visits from students, bands and guest teachers from the professional milieu. We arrange workshops, clinics and masterclasses. Together we can deepen your insight into your musical expressions, stage-performance, songwriting or explore stomp, rotation etc.
