IQBAL
H U S S A I N
‘Unconven7onal’, ‘outspoken’, ‘radically innova7ve’ and ‘avant-‐garde’ are all words used to describe Iqbal Hussain. ADer finishing his studies at NCA in 1974, Hussain dedicated his career to pain5ng women of the red light district in Lahore. In this series of seascapes, he has swapped the characters of the red light district for the natural environment. Hussain perfectly captures the atmosphere of those certain calm and undisturbed 5mes of the day, looking out at the Ravi Canal, Lahore.

Her finely painted symbols invoke ideas pertaining to the ‘unpredictability of life’, as well as the concept of the fragility of a life that does not have a strong foundation. Sana Mahmood graduated from the NCA, Lahore in 2007, majoring in miniature painting
