2007

Born from jets. Saab was founded by 16 aircraft engineers and their high performance spirit lives on. Our cars are designed in the heart of Scandinavia. Where nature and its elements are not simply a backdrop, but always an active participant – from cold winters to hot summers. For us at Saab, the extreme and unpredictable seasons are simply a part of everyday life. Inspiring us to design sporty, spirited cars that combine driving exhilaration with ingenious utility. Just test drive the Saab 9-5 Sedan and SportCombi – and get ready for takeoff.

It’s in our genes. Step into the cockpit of the Saab 9-5. Grab the wheel. Feel the inspiration. Our aircraft heritage is alive and kicking. The proof is in the driver’s environment, the immense power at hand and that sensational feeling of control. And of course, advanced aerodynamics that keep you firmly on the ground.

Innovation on a higher plane. Scandinavian approach to design combined with a unique aircraft heritage. No wonder creative thinking runs free at Saab. Especially when it comes to pioneering turbo technology, new eco-friendly engine concepts and cutting-edge safety work. Resulting in innovative solutions you’ll appreciate in everyday driving. Not to mention all the functional features in the Saab 9-5 that help boost your quality of life. Just go ahead and fly.

A focused driver is a safer driver. That’s why the Saab 9-5 cockpit integrates our innovative ComSense concept. It’s a range of intelligent features designed to reduce distraction and help you stay focused on the road ahead. Like the system that is designed to briefly delay lower priority alerts when you turn or brake. And the unique Saab Night Panel – designed to help make things easier when you drive at night.

8

Pilots wanted. The ergonomic cockpit is designed around the driver. The most frequently used controls are within convenient reach and you have a good view over the instruments and the road ahead.

Night Panel – designed to facilitate night driving. Press a button and the instrument panel, except for the speedometer, fades out. When attention is needed, the relevant instrument lights up. Steering wheel controls – for the infotainment system and SCC. Gear shifting paddles for the optional Sentronic transmission. SCC – Saab Car Computer. Integrated in the speedometer. Shows ambient temperature, fuel consumption, estimated distance on remaining fuel. You also get functions such as distance to destination, estimated time of arrival and speed warning. Cruise control – helps to keep the car at the speed you set. ACC – Automatic Climate Control. Different temperatures for driver and passenger. Electrostatic/carbon filter designed to help clean the incoming air from particles down to 0.004 mm in size. Designed to keep the passenger compartment free of dust, soot, pollen, and certain bacteria. Ventilated sports seats – perforated leather and fans in the backrest and seat cushion help keep your body cool. (Optional) Rear Parking Assistance – helps when parking in tight spots. Alerts you as you get close to an object behind the car. (Included in optional Visibility Package)

10

11

Ground control. Drive the Saab 9-5 and get ready for true ground control. A unique fun-to-drive quality that is also vital for safer driving. Combining agility, sportiness and consistent behaviour. How? With a well-balanced and responsive chassis featuring stiff shock absorbers, thick anti-roll bars and progressive suspension. All fine-tuned for sharp handling, balanced with outstanding on-road comfort. Quite simply, the Saab 9-5 is a beautiful piece of engineering – designed for a truly rewarding driving experience.

13

Driver control

Multi-link rear axle – with independent suspension and three links for each wheel designed to provide precise wheel control. Gives a certain degree of passive steering in curves and alerts you as you approach the limits of grip.

Rain sensor – starts the windshield wipers automatically. Adjusts wiper speed to suit the rain’s intensity. (Included in the Visibility Package)

Xenon headlamps – gives a broader low beam and better curbside visibility. Beam length is adjusted automatically to maximize capacity and reduce the risk of dazzling oncoming traffic. (Included in Visibility Package)

Standard equipment • Front MacPherson struts • Multi-link rear axle • Twin tube gas shock absorbers all-round • Front and rear anti-roll bars • Disc brakes all-round, ventilated at the front • Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) • Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) • Traction Control System (TCS) • Electronic Stability Program (ESP ®) • Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering • ComSense system • Night Panel • Saab Car Computer • Cruise control • Integrated front fog lamps • Windshield wipers with variable and intermittent speed • High-pressure windshield washers • High-pressure headlamp washers • Rear window wiper/washer (SportCombi only) • Heated exterior rear-view mirrors • Steering wheel adjustable for reach and rake Optional equipment • Lowered sports chassis (Included in Aero Package) • Xenon headlamps (Included in Visibility Package) • Electrochromic mirrors (Included in Visibility Package) • Rain Sensing windshield wipers (Included in Visibility Package)

Designed to help reduce spinning on a slippery surface by distributing drive force to the wheel with the best grip. Integrated in the ESP ® system. ESP® – Electronic Stability Program. Designed to help reduce skidding on a slippery surface. Brakes one or more wheels and, if necessary, reduces the throttle opening. If desired, ESP ® can be switched off.

Chassis tuning – springs, shock absorbers and antiroll bars are fine-tuned for a crisp, firm response.

Sports chassis – lowered 10 mm to provide enhanced stability and agility. Firmer springs and stiffer shock absorbers mean better body control, cornering and braking. (Included in Aero Package)

A warm welcome to our safety lab. Saab cars are developed where other manufacturers come for test drives: in Scandinavia with its demanding climate and harsh winters. No wonder Saab cars are frequently ranked among the best in the world in various safety surveys. Yet our safety work is much more than award winning*. It focuses on what actually happens on the roads in real-life conditions. After all, our job is to help protect real people, not just dummies in a laboratory.

*“Safest car in Sweden” – Saab 9-5. Ranked more than 30 per cent better than the average car in the Swedish insurance company Folksam report, “How Safe is Your Car?”, 2005.

*Best Pick – Saab 9-5. Maximum rating. U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) frontal crash tests, 2004.

The Saab real-life safety approach has borne numerous innovations and intelligent designs. Like our award-winning active head restraints (SAHR) fitted in the front seats. They’ve earned the Saab 9-5 top ratings for protection against neck injury in rear-end collision tests conducted by Britain’s Thatcham insurance research centre. Announcing the latest results, a spokesman* for the centre said: “Saab has been a benchmark for designing seats to help prevent whiplash injury.”

Saab Active Head Restraint Maximum rating: Good – Saab 9-5 Sedan. For Saab Active Head Restraints (SAHR) in Britain’s Thatcham insurance research centre crash tests, 2005. Maximum rating: Good – Saab 9-5 SportCombi. For Saab Active Head Restraints (SAHR) in Britain’s Thatcham insurance research centre crash tests, 2005.

* Thatcham Crash Research Manager, Matthew Avery. 2005

The key to security. Theft protection in the new Saab 9-5 has been developed in close co-operation with leading European insurance companies. It’s quite simply among the best on the market. The system counters both break-ins and theft of the car itself.

Coded key – remotely operates the central locking. Rolling digital codes make it virtually impossible to copy the code. Door locks – protected against tampering. If anyone tries to force the door lock, it spins uselessly. Deadlocks prevent the doors being opened from inside after a break-in. Locked wheels – the gear lever and transmission must be in reverse (or P for automatics) before you can take the key out of the ignition. Immobilizer – the car’s electronic units will only accept the code from the correct key. Protected audio equipment – vital parts are digitally “married” to each other and to the car, so they only work in your particular car. Saab Anti-theft Alarm – reacts if someone tries to enter the car. Remote controlled via buttons in the key. Includes a “panicfunction” whereby pressing a button triggers the alarm. Follow-me-home – headlamp illumination for 30 seconds when leaving the car.

The 17-inch all-season tires have a lower aspect ratio that aids performance and handling. However, in order to avoid tire, rim, or vehicle damage, it is important that the inflation pressure is regularly checked and maintained at recommended levels. Please also remember in making your selection that, while these tires deliver responsive handling, they may ride less comfortably and make more noise than other choices. Finally, these tires may wear more quickly than other choices. For further information on all these topics, please consult the Owner Manual, your local Retailer or call 1-888-888-SAAB.
