The CDC estimates more than 50% of 18–24-year old’s reported instances of increased anxiety or depressive disorder over the past 24 months. People are often surprised to learn that for more than 45 years The Community House has been pro-
viding vitally important counseling services to the community regardless of their ability to pay. We believe that access to these services is at the foundation of a healthy community and that all families should be having conversations about mental health and how to identify when professional intervention should be sought, ways they can boost their coping mechanisms and identify activities that help them unwind. For me and for many, running and walking outdoors is how I unwind and relieve stress. Mental wellness is a journey, not a destination and we hope you’ll join us start the conversation with our outdoor Walk the Walk for Mental Health on May 15. When you register, start a team, and walk a mile with us, you are helping provide therapy services for young people and their families within Hinsdale and the surrounding communities and for families in the unincorporated and underserved Willowbrook Corner neighborhood. The day will be filled with colorful blasts at our celebration stations and community post-race party. The summer is a magical time at The Community House. We will be bursting with opportunity in a wide variety of summer camps, classes, and trips to give every member of your family options to stay creative, healthy, and engaged. For more than 80 years, families have helped The Community House remain the center of community activity and because we do not receive your tax support, we only thrive with your participation and your donations. In fact, more than 40% of our annual operating revenue comes from the philanthropic support of you and your neighbors. We look forward to making wonderful memories for your family and hope you’ll spend some time at “our house” this summer!
