WELCOME TO THE Y!

DEAR MEMBERS & PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS,

It’s that time of year again: summer is winding down, kids are heading back to school, and schedules are quickly filling up with fun fall activities. We hope yours will include some of the amazing programs and offerings that are available to you here at the MetroWest YMCA!

Whether your family wants more quality time together or you’re looking to achieve your goals, make new friends, or give back, you can count on the Y to support your needs. You’ll find plenty of ways to nourish your mind and body through fitness and wellness classes, youth sports, dance, martial arts, gymnastics, and swimming lessons at our Framingham Branch. For convenience and consistency, you can register your child for ongoing swim lessons to secure a time slot that works for your schedule (space permitting) and keep it all year long. Registering one lesson lesson at a time is still an option. Over at the Outdoor Center, the air is buzzing with a vartiey of events, sports, and cooking classes. You have opportunities to hike our forested trails, learn archery or rock climbing, play soccer on the sports fields, zipline through the trees, and much more!

Whenever you’re ready, we’ll be here to help you along your journey as you work towards your goals and grow into the best version of yourself!

Sincerely,

The MetroWest YMCA is a cause-driven charitable organization that stands for healthy living, youth development, and social responsibility. We offer programs and services that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

PWR!Moves is the core of our PD-specific functional exercise and physical therapy programs. The Basic 4 PWR!Moves are designed to each target a skill known to deteriorate in people with Parkinson's disease, which often leads to loss of mobility and function. The PWR!Moves can be practiced in multiple positions, made progressively more physically and cognitively challenging, and be used differently to target each person’s unique symptoms individually. Wednesdays, 11:00 AM - 11:45 AM

PEDAL FOR PARKINSON’S

The MetroWest YMCA offers this program because regular exercise is one of the key components in treating the many symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35 percent reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace, optimally 80-90 revolutions per minute. Fast pedaling is not a cure for Parkinson’s disease, but there is compelling evidence to show that it does make a real difference in many who try it. Fridays and Sundays, 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Requirements to participate:

• Must be over age 30 and diagnosed with Idiopathic Parkinson’s Disease or another neurological condition

• Physician approval is required, and we will have you sign a waiver

• A heart rate monitor and proper cycling equipment, including padded shorts, water, and sneakers or clip-in shoes, are recommended

• Participants must not have cardiac or pulmonary disease, uncontrolled mellitus, uncontrolled hypertension or stroke, dementia, or other medical conditions for which exercise poses a risk

MOVEMENT CLASS

Participants move to music through rhythm and dance sequences, which help improve agility and mobility. All different types of music will be used and chairs are available. Thursdays, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

EDUCATION

EARLY LEARNING CENTER

Our Early Learning Center helps children meet their learning and developmental potential while providing the care needed for families to work. We provide high-quality early education and care to children 15 months until they start kindergarten.

Our teachers create and implement a curriculum designed to make your child feel comfortable while learning, socializing, and having fun. One of their goals is to help your child feel independent and empowered to explore their environment and engage in gross motor and language activities. Children can learn through hands-on and sensory experiences, creative expression, and the acquisition of self-help skills.

Our curriculum addresses each child’s individual develop-mental needs and interests and emphasizes the YMCA character values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. It also includes a focus on SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) to help the children learn to identify and manage their feelings and solve social problems. Beginning at three years of age, parents have the option of enrolling your children in YMCA classes such as swimming, sports, and gymnastics.

WAYS TO SUPPORT

JOIN OUR RODMAN RIDE FOR KIDS TEAM

The Rodman Ride for Kids is an annual event that raises funds to support at-risk teens in our communities. The MetroWest YMCA is excited to partner with the ride again so youth in our community can access educational programs, healthy meals, and opportunities to build their career aspirations and goals.

You can either join the in-person ride on September 23 in Foxborough (25 or 50 miles) or come up with your own adventure/challenge and complete it by September 23.

For more details, visit our website or contact Amy Miller: amiller@metrowestymca.org.

CAMP FOR ALL

Summer camp helps to build resiliency and combat summer learning loss. At the Y, we believe all youth should have an opportunity to experience summer camp. Through our annual Camp for All campaign, people in the community help send hundreds of youth to camp who otherwise might not be able to attend.

Consider joining us today to send kids to camp tomorrow. Text metrowestymca to 56651 and complete the pledge online.

Thank you! We are stronger together.
