WELCOME TO THE Y! ALL
ARE WELCOME
DEAR MEMBERS & PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS,
Fall Programs start anew with Session 2 on October 31st. We would like to welcome all the new members that joined during Welcoming Week and thank those who have stuck with us over the years. This fall, we are innovating new programs that help you get fit, learn something new, and have fun together.
Our Framingham Branch will pilot a new internship and workforce development program for teens, and launch a free, fitness challenge that you can do yourself or with friends and family (p. 27).
Our Family Outdoor Center offers leaf-peeping, hiking trails, archery, indoor rock-climbing, geocaching, orienteering, and a new cornhole tournament! Our Family Chopped night was so popular during Fall 1 that we’ve offered it again this session – including even more cooking classes!
As this upcoming session falls during the holiday season, there will be opportunities for you to support your community as a volunteer or through one of our charitable events (pg. 34). We know from experience that we are stronger together. We are very grateful to all of you for your support to help our mis sion as a cause-driven charitable organization that offers programs and services that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. We look forward to a wonderful fall!.
Sincerely,
Rick MacPherson President and CEO MetroWest YMCAABOUT US

The PWR!Moves can be practiced in multiple positions, made progressively more physically and cognitively challenging, and be used differently to target each person’s unique symptoms individually.
PEDAL FOR PARKINSON’S
FRIDAY 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM in the Cycle Studio
The MetroWest YMCA offers this program because regular exercise is one of the key components in treat ing the many symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed a 35 percent reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace, optimally 80-90 revolutions per minute.
Fast pedaling is not a cure for Parkinson’s disease, but there is compelling evidence to show that it does make a real difference in many who try it.
Requirements to participate:
● Must be over age 30 and diagnosed with Idiopathic Parkinson’s Disease or another neurological condition
● Physician approval is required, and we will have you sign a waiver.
● It is recommended that you have a heart rate monitor and proper cycling equipment, including padded shorts, water, sneakers or clip-in shoes
● Participants must not have cardiac or pulmonary disease, uncontrolled mellitus, uncontrolled hypertension or stroke, dementia, or other medical conditions for which exercise poses a risk.

Bouldering is climbing sideto-side only a few feet off the ground and does not require harnesses or helmet, and multiple children can do it at once. Top-rope climbing is climbing up to the ceiling using a rope attached to a participants harness and attached to a staff member. Because of the nature of the dynamic belay only one child can top-rope climb at a time though other children may boulder while waiting. Up to 15 participants can participate in activities though more may attend the party.

We have multiple difficulty levels; some for those just looking for an easy trail activity that doesn’t take too long, and other much harder difficulties requiring some navigation through deeper woods, that can take much longer to complete. You can select your difficulty level and print the requisite map from the “orienteering” section of the Family Outdoor Center tab of the Metrowest YMCA website.

All you need is to download the free “Geocaching” app, and the map will lead you to the treasure area. Follow the provided clue to find the treasure box. This is a “take an item, leave an item” style prize-box where you should bring a small toy or keychain item to trade if you would like to take a prize. Sign the logbook and find the next one, Happy Treasure-Hunting!!
