THE HISTORY OF TROY BAYLISS EVENTS Troy Bayliss Events started in 2013 with the inaugural Troy Bayliss Classic at Old Bar short circuit where Troy honed his flat track skills as a teenager. 2014 saw the start of TBE’s involvement in Motorcycle Expo’s, with Moto Expo Brisbane and Melbourne. Mark Petersen and Troy Bayliss had a vision to bring more action to the shows by incorporating racing and live demonstrations. With Marks previous knowledge in Motorcycle exhibitions and Troys racing background and love for all things bikes, it seemed like a great combination . The following year TBE managed the Sydney Motorcycle Show. They have continued to run Melbourne Moto Expo and Sydney Motorshow in consecutive years since then. Always looking for something different to entertain the crowds TBE last year organized Robbie Maddison to ride his water bike in Darling Harbour Sydney. Although a logistical challenge it was an incredible demonstration to see and this is what they are about. Going the extra mile to make things exciting for the crowds. This year an exciting opportunity arose for TBE to run Round 3 and 4 of the Australian Supercross Championship. With their knowledge in the industry and the support from their sponsors they decided to take it to the next level at GMHBA Stadium Geelong and Gillman Speedway Port Adelaide.

USA VS. AUSTRALIA
19
Since Australian Supercross got back on its feet, our country has been flooded with American riders who arrive on our shores ready to race our best as well as attempt to capture an Aussie SX crown.
Justin Brayton, Gavin Faith, Jimmy Decotis and now the likes of Josh Osby, Bradley Taft, Dakota Alix and Jacob Hayes are all here lining up every weekend as part of our Australian Championship going head to head with our Aussie guys.
So have the Americans got an edge that we just can’t match? Or are we proving time and time again that we can compete with the worlds best here down under?
We break it down in our... AUSTRALIANS VS AMERICANS
20
21
JUSTIN BRAYTON - The Consummate Professional What can you say that hasn’t already been said about the multi time Australian Supercross Champion? In some ways he’s become that much of a regular to our series that we have sort of claimed him as our own these days, but regardless of our Aussie love for this guy, he is ultimately an American superstar who’s domination in Australia has been something widely spoken about. With a smooth and sleek style on the bike, and his ability to charge through the pack in a graceful fashion, it’s a skill many riders spend their entire careers hoping to master. Brayton is on another level here in Australia - well you got to be to win a Daytona Supercross and at this point there aren’t many guys in the SX1 field who can get close to him. Having taken two from two round wins, Brayton proves year after year that he gets better with age.
22
23
JACOB HAYES - The Arenacross Champ With the absence of Gavin Faith from this years Supercross Championship, many had wondered what sort of AMA Arenacross influence might be had on our Australian series, and then along came the 2018 American Arenacross Champ Jacob Hayes thanks to Serco Yamaha. There’s no doubt about it, this American can ride and he’s already finished on the podium in Aus once already this season, but one thing we are certain of is that in 2018 the SX2 class is packed and these guys HAVE to bring their A-game every weekend, tight tracks or wide open ones! At only 24 years of age, Hayes has a long career ahead of him, but will he be leaving Australia for the first time as our 2018 SX2 Supercross Champion? With three rounds to go, this American is going to be determined to put the foot down.
24
25
26
JOSH OSBY - Who? So it’s no secret that not a lot of people had heard of this guy before he arrived on Aussie shores but since he’s got here he’s made sure we won’t forget him any time soon. Osby came out at round one as the fastest guy in free practice and he was in the unseeded category (whaaaat?) and then wound up in third place on the SX2 podium with privateer race team Raceline Pirelli KTM, and most people didn’t even know who he was! After having now worked out that this kid has serious talent, us Aussies should be seeing this guy as the dark horse. He’s raced American Supercross, Canadian Motocross and he’s certainly not short on experience. He’s proved his ability to adapt to the Aussie tracks and he’s making a name for himself down under that’s no joke. Watch this space, Osby might just be the guy you never saw coming... literally.
27
BRETT METCALFE - The Master You name it, Metcalfe has done it. He’s notoriously famous both in Australia and overseas and for good reason. Now, he’s back home and proving that you don’t need to teach an old dog new tricks. Despite being in his 30s Metcalfe is charging against guys 10 years younger than him, and he’s beating them too! He’s finished on the podium twice out of two rounds and while many had probably thought he wasn’t far off retirement, the Honda veteran is showing week in, week out that age is no obstacle.
28
29
LUKE CLOUT - The SX1 Rising Star Throughout junior years and even senior years racing in the MX2 and SX2 categories, Luke Clout has always shown that he’s talented, driven, and can deliver championship results. This year though everything has just clicked for Clout on a whole new level at Supercross and he’s keeping up with the likes of Brayton, Metcalfe and Dan Reardon and even battling them for wins in the process. Clout is coming into a new league in his career and it’s spectacular to see. He isn’t afraid to make moves when it’s necessary and he’s taking in all he can from the experienced guys ahead of him. It might not be this year that Clout becomes and SX1 champ but in years to come don’t be surprised to see this guy riding with a number 1 on the back of his jersey.
30
31
32
JAY WILSON - The Comeback King After going pro when he was only 16 and not missing a single season of racing since, at only 24 years of age, Jay Wilson is considered a veteran. But the exciting thing about that is that his best years of racing are still ahead of him. Having taken two out of two round wins so far this season, and dominating a field of riders that is more talented than the SX2 class has seen in years, it’s a pretty mean feat! Wilson may have had some highs and lows, he may have dropped off for a while, but after the last two rounds of Supercross, there is no doubt in Australia’s mind that this guys is back to his A-game self.
33
34
35
JAY WILSON Nothing short of domination from the Yamaha rider this year. Leaving both Round 1 & 2 victorious, will Jay Wilson maintain this success throughout the series? Only time will tell.

WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A
SUPERCROSS RACER I often get asked this question and the reason I stated “racer” in the title of this article is simple. Riding Supercross, although dangerous and demanding, is still relatively safe for an A grade / elite level rider. For a professional level racer, spending some time on the same Supercross test track for a few days leads to rhythms, triples and whoops all becoming a reflex and the laps tend to become very routine and effortless. I’m sure you have all seen your favourite privateers Instagram “banger” hot lap where they scrub every rhythm and limiter bash every triple? That’s the comfort level you can achieve on your home Supercross test track and this is the addictive feeling that Supercross gives riders and let me tell you from experience, there really is no comparison to the feeling of flowing a perfect lap around a Supercross track gives you as a rider. But racing Supercross?? Well.. That’s a completely different animal.
Story By: Joe Stevens 53
To answer that question we need to firstly break down what Supercoss racing requires from competitors. The tracks are tight, with much shorter lap times than your average Motocross track. The only flat piece of real estate on an sx track is the start straight, the rest of the circuit is full of jumps, rhythms and whoops. The majority of corners are banked berms to maximise corner speed and intensity of racing. Finally, you are racing twenty other riders all looking to block pass you at any opportunity they can get, on a track that constantly changes and breaks down throughout the evening as racing progresses, meaning that 65ft triple or quad rhythm section might not be jumpable on your line every lap… are you scared yet?
Now you have had time to digest all of that information, you will start to understand the difference between “riding” Supercross and “racing” Supercross. So what does it take to be a successful Supercross racer? I’ll state the obvious that skills and talent obviously have something to do with it. Some rider’s skill sets are more suited to outdoors and some to the tight confines of Supercross. Especially in Australia we do tend to see a similar trend to the USA where some riders do “outdoor Motocross” or Supercross only racing schedules to suit their preferred racing environment. After that, experience is a massive part of a SX racers tool kit. Sounds easy enough, but staying healthy long enough racing Supercross to put a few seasons under your belt to gain the experience needed to be competitive is All this while maintaining an anaerobic often the dividing line long term for riders plus heart rate zone from durations who succeed in the stadiums and riders ranging from 8-15 minutes and even close who struggle to figure things out. to twenty minutes at some venues for the 450 class main events.
54
55
56
{
COMFORT IN SUPERCROSS REALLY IS A LUXURY RESERVED FOR THE VERY EXPERIENCED AND ELITE...
}
Being head strong and confident, believing in your own ability to judge jumps and nail a start every time is huge. In Supercross EVERYTHING is compressed to minimal time. Practice and timed sessions are short meaning very little track time and often having to jump rhythms or nail whoops second or third lap into the day is common place. No time to warm up, you think you can triple triple on off that rhythm? Better get it done now before it gets in your head.. ! These are the thought processes riders have to go through in a very short time frame. The consequences? Well at best a trip over the bars and a sore head, at worst, we have all seen Ken Roczens highlight reel crash from 2017, the consequences in Supercross to making mistakes are very real. After that, short heat races, LCQ if you didn’t make the cut and a quick trip back to the pits before the main is all a rider see’s during the night show. Comfort in Supercross really is a luxury reserved for the very experienced and elite level riders. So what does it take to be a Supercross racer? You will get to see on Saturday night who has figured it out by round three and who is still left on the back foot. The riders on the podium through to those not making the mains all deserve a massive amount of respect for putting it all on the line out there, but ultimately only a few will make the cut of the podium every season.
Thanks for reading everyone and see you at the races. Story by: Joe Stevens

ROUND 2 COOLUM BRAYTON AND WILSON TRIUMPHANT AGAIN Round two of the 2018 Australian Supercross Championship in Coolum, Queensland, saw a repeat of results at the top of the rostrum, as Justin Brayton (Penrite Honda Racing) and Jay Wilson (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) earned main event victories in the SX1 and SX2 categories respectively. Brayton quickly made his way into P1 on the opening lap of the SX1 main with Penrite Honda Racing teammate Brett Metcalfe in tow, as CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team newcomer Nathan Crawford made a critical mistake while challenging for third, calling for a premature end to his weekend with a suspected knee injury.

Luke Clout in third (KTM Motocross Racing Team) moved into third behind Metcalfe, and the duo would remain in those positions for the remainder of the outing despite a late crash from Clout, finishing a distant second and third as Brayton lapped up to sixth place.
Fourth and fifth positions were credited to Jace Owen (Complete Parts Kawasaki Racing) and Dan Reardon (Yamaha), who pushed through a flat tyre, while Dylan Long (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team), Jesse Dobson (KSF Ecstar Suzuki), Lawson Bopping (Kawasaki), Nick Sutherland (Honda) and Zak Small (Husqvarna) rounded out the top 10. SX1 rookie Cody Dyce (Suzuki) crashed hard in the initial laps through the whoop section to record a DNF result.

Aaron Tanti (Complete Parts Kawasaki Racing) grabbed the lead early on in the SX2 main event, although DPH Motorsport Husqvarna’s Hayden Mellross shifted into P1 in the following stages. A dramatic opening lap saw contenders Bradley Taft (Penrite Honda Racing) and Dylan Wills (DPH Motorpsort Husqvarna) go down, forcing the duo to work their way to through the field.
The top five remained incredibly close in the first half when rain started to sprinkle at the Coolum venue, as Tanti later capitalised on a mistake from Mellross to regain the lead, which ultimately saw Serco Yamaha’s Wilson Todd move into second. Series leader Wilson promoted himself to P1 in the dying laps to clinch his second-consecutive victory over Tanti and Todd. Mellross was fourth ahead of American Dakota Alix (KTM Motocross Racing Team), as the top 10 was completed by Jacob Hayes (Serco Yamaha), Kyle Webster (Penrite CRF Honda Racing), Jackson Richardson (Penrite CRF Honda Racing), Richie Evans (Yamalube Yamaha Racing) and Thomas Ravenhorst (KTM).

AORC ROUND 10 & 11
PERFECT SEASON IN CLASS FOR HUSQVARNA’S SANDERS
Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team’s Daniel Sanders has delivered a brilliant E2 title in the 2018 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) following the final rounds of the season at Omeo, Victoria, this weekend. Sanders was unstoppable in E2 riding a Husqvarna FE 450, victorious in all 11 rounds upon return to national racing. Omeo was another strong showing for the Victorian, claiming first in class and second outright following Saturday’s Cross Country and also the Sprint round on Sunday. The team’s success didn’t stop there however, as Lachlan Stanford rode his Husqvarna FE 501 to second in E3 on both Saturday and Sunday, sealing the runner-up result in the standings following a consistent effort throughout the year. E1 newcomer Fraser Higlett capped off his exceptional first season in class by going 3-2 at the final event of the series in dry and dusty track conditions, which enabled him to seal second in the points aboard the Husqvarna FE 250. Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team’s Sanders and Higlett will both form part of Team Australia when the 2018 International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) takes place at Vina del Mar in Chile from 1217 November.

Christian Horwood - Team Manager, Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team: “We had a great weekend again as a team and congratulate each of the riders on their results for the season. Saturday was quite a gruelling three-hour Cross Country in dry and dusty conditions, where Chucky rode really strong, Lachy had a blinder of a start to lead for two laps and Fraser rode consistently - it was really close. Sunday was another challenging one, but we ended up with three class podiums again, which was fantastic and to see Chucky clean-sweep E2 for the championship was fantastic for Husqvarna Motorcycles. On top of that, we are happy to have Lachy and Fraser both score second in their classes, so it’s a testament to the bikes, the riders and the entire team. It’s been great to have strong results at the end of each and every round of the series.” Lachlan Stanford - Husqvarna FE 501: “This weekend was really good fun, my style of track being a grass track, so it was good to lead the Cross Country early on and I ended up second in class there. Today was good to finish second as well, I had a ball on the Husqvarna FE 501 - it really suited the track and was handling great for me. To finish second in the E3 points behind Daniel Milner is really positive for me, I am satisfied with the year and have had a great time with the whole team.” Daniel Sanders - Husqvarna FE 450: “It was an awesome weekend of racing and I really liked the Cross Country yesterday. It was a bit drier than expected, but we got it done how we wanted to in class despite a couple of mistakes on Saturday. Everything worked out well, to wrap up the E2 championship on Saturday and take a clean-sweep, so we’re happy with that. It’s been good being at a new team in the Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team and I’m glad I could deliver the title for them this season. Now we will look ahead to the ISDE and I look forward to that.” Fraser Higlett - Husqvarna FE 250: “The rounds this weekend were good and I am happy to come away with second in the E1 championship. I had a few crashes in the Cross Country yesterday, but still finished third, then today it was great to finish second and to complete the season second in points. It was a tough year, my expectations were high and I started getting harder on myself towards the end, but looking back I am happy with how we did in the end.”
