Ceri Richards was born in Dunvant, near Swansea, in 1903. He studied at Swansea School of Art, before winning a scholarship to the Royal College of Art, London. A contemporary of and frequent co-exhibitor with Henry Moore, Ben Nicholson, John Piper and Graham Sutherland, he represented Britain in many international touring exhibitions. In 1962 he was a prize-winner at the Venice Biennale. Ceri Richards is widely regarded as one of Wales’ most important 20th Century artists. He is represented in many museums worldwide, and the Tate Gallery has a collection of over 90 works. This exhibition brings together a collection of paintings, drawings and prints, representing his work from the 1930’s up to his death in 1971, covering all his major themes.

Ganwyd Ceri Richards yn Dunvant ger Abertawe ym 1903, ac astudiodd yn Ysgol Gelf Abertawe cyn ennill ysgoloriaeth i astudio yng Ngholeg Celf Frenhinol, Llundain. Yn ei ddydd, chyd-arddangosai a’i gyfoeswyr Henry Moore, John Piper a Graham Sutherland yn aml, ac fe gynrychiolodd Prydain mewn nifer o arddangosfeydd rhyngwladol. Ym 1962 enillodd wobr yn y Venice Biennale. Mae Ceri Richards yn cael ei ystyried yn un o artistiaid Cymraeg pwysicaf yr 20fed Ganrif . Cynrychiolir ei waith mewn nifer o brif amgueddfeydd y byd, ac mae casgliad o dros 90 o’i waith yn Oriel y Tate, Llundain. Mae’r arddangosfa hon yn dod ynghyd a casgliad o baentiadau, darluniau a phrintiau, sydd yn cynrychioli ei waith o’r 1930au hyd at ei farwolaeth yn 1971, yn cwmpasu ei holl brif themâu.
