Meirion Ginsberg yw un o arlunwyr Cymreig ifanc mwyaf cyffrous sy’n gweithio heddiw. Ganwyd ef yng Ngogledd Cymru ym 1985 ac fe hyfforddwyd yng Ngholeg Celf Caerdydd. Mae ei waith deinamig, enigmatig, lliwgar a arlunyddol wedi’i ysbrydoli gan gymeriadau yn ei fywyd bob dydd. Mae ei defnydd cryf yn y cefndir o lliwiau chwyrlio a siapiau geometrig, yn cyferbynnu â manylder ei gymeriadau yn y blaendir, gan greu arddull paentio unigryw ac llawn mynegiant. Mae Meirion yn cyfuno amrywiaeth o ddylanwadau o Francis Bacon a Willem de Kooning i Norman Rockwell. “Rwy’n mwynhau gwaith haniaethol ond nid wyf yn arlunydd haniaethol. Fe hoffwn i fod, felly rwyf yn ceisio ei orfodi i mewn i fy ngwaith rywsut. Bob tro rwy’n ceisio gwneud darlun haniaethol, fydd ffigwr wastad yn ymddangos. Dwi’n chware gyda’r ddau beth. Mae hiwmor yn chwarae rhan fawr yn fy ngwaith, ond mae hun yn cael ei dyneru gan adeilad athrylithgar fy mheintiadau. Yr wyf yn credu’n gadarn fod byrfyfyr a chymryd risg, sef dwy elfen gref sy’n cryfhau fy syniadau a sgiliau”
Meirion Ginsberg is one of the most exciting young Welsh painters working today. He was born in North Wales in 1985 and trained at Cardiff College of Art. His dynamic, enigmatic, colourful and painterly work is inspired by characters in his everyday life. His strong use of abstraction in the background, swirling colours and geometric shapes, contrasts abruptly with the detail of his characters in the foreground, creating a unique and highly expressive painting style. Ginsberg fuses a range of influences from Francis Bacon and Willem de Kooning to Norman Rockwell. “I really enjoy abstract work but I’m not an abstract painter. I would like to be and so I guess I try to force it in somehow and incorporate that. Every time I try and make an abstract picture, a figure comes out. I’m toying with the two things. Humour plays a big part in my work, but this seems to be mellowed out by the intuitive construction of my paintings. I am a strong believer of improvisation and risk taking which are two strong elements in my mind that strengthen my ideas and skill”
