Ganwyd Keith Bowen yn Sir Ddinbych yn 1950, ac astudiodd Gynllunio Graffig yng Ngholeg Polytechnig Manceinion rhwng 1969 ac 1972. Mae Keith wedi arddangos yn eang ac wedi derbyn canmoliaeth gyfiawn am ei waith. Yn ogystal â llond lle o wobrwyon, mae Keith wedi ennill y Fedal Aur yng nghystadleuaeth Celf Gain Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru ar ddau achlysur, ac yn 1997 gwobrwywyd ef â Chymrodoriaeth Prifysgol Cymru. Mae ei waith wedi ymddangos mewn dau lyfr, ‘Snowdon Shepherd’ ac ‘Among the Amish’, yn ogystal â dau stamp y Post Brenhinol. Dywed Keith am ei waith: “Yn ddeuddeg mlwydd oed, am y tro cyntaf, sefais ar ben yr Wyddfa; roeddwn wedi dod o hyd i fan yr oeddwn am fod ynddi a rhywbeth yr oeddwn yn awyddus i neud. Pum mlynedd a deugain yn ddiweddarach rydw i’n dal i grwydro ar hyd fryniau Cymru ac yn parhau i deimlo’r cynnwrf a’r hudoliaeth gyntaf. Ond, y dyddiau yma, rydw i’n fwy tebygol o ymweld â’r mannau cuddiedig, i ffwrdd o’r prif begynau, mannau heb fawr o atyniad gweledol, yr anghofiedig, y dibwys a’r hen: Cefn Gwlad”.
Keith Bowen was born in Denbighshire, North Wales in 1950. He studied Graphic Design at the Faculty of Art & Design, Manchester Polytechnic between 1969 and 1972. He has exhibited extensively and received justifiable acclaim. Amongst a host of awards, Keith has twice received the Gold Medal for Fine Art at the Royal National Eisteddfod of Wales. In 1997 he was awarded an Honorary Fellowship of the University of Wales. Two Royal Mail Stamps and two books, ‘Snowdon Shepherd’ and ‘Among the Amish’ feature his paintings of the countryside. Keith writes of his work: “For the first time at the age of twelve, I stood on the top of Snowdon; I had found something that I wanted to do and somewhere that I wanted to be. Fortyfive years later, I am still stumbling around the Welsh hills, and I still feel that initial excitement and fascination with the place. However, these days, I am as likely to visit those remote places that are away from the high peaks, places that are neglected and unremarkable, the forgotten, old and strange back country: Y Cefn Gwlad”.
