E D I T O R’ S N O T E NEW YEAR, NEW LOOK. The winter season can be bitingly cold, or just a little cold, or not even look like winter at all. Yet, through our varying experiences of it, it somehow maintains its incredible way of making us feel alive — through its warm sense of togetherness, as we end another year and move onto the next with those near and dear. It has a liveliness to it that keeps us going. In this winter's issue, you'll notice a rejuvenation of the life of My Magazine, with its new, fresh, exciting visage to the publication! A short and sweet introduction to what's ahead. I hope you find yourself continually eager to flip on to the next page for more inspiration — tips, tutorials and even glitter galore! One of my personal favorite holidays is New Year's Eve, and its festivities became the inspiration behind this season — everything in the issue can be taken with you straight from the holidays, and through 2017. My advice — be lively. Create something new. Speak your mind, and let your voice be heard. You have the ability to make each day, month and, well, year extraordinarily and uniquely your own. What will you stand for? To many, many more together. Cheers!

Behind the Scenes

Winter is such a magical time of the year! From the yummy recipes to the traditions and cooler weather, we have a soft spot in our hearts for this beautiful season. This issue was especially fun for us because we had the opportunity collaborate with old and new friends! One of our favorite shoots was at Tumbleweed and Dandelion, an adorable vintage shop in Venice Beach. We shot our New Year’s Eve feature there and felt right at home, per usual (the shop looks like a little cottage filled with the most unique knick knacks, home goods and more!). Makeup was provided by our very dear friends at Bushington Makeup & Beauty Lounge.

Winter is the perfect season for homemade cooking and this pumpkin chestnut soup recipe is just what you need to try. It’s totally free of dairy, gluten and sugar too!

Start Making Your Own Traditions...

Right Now!

I Clothing: Draper James Photography: Vanessa Tierney Makeup: Blushington Makeup & Beauty Lounge

t may feel silly asking yourself how you want to celebrate the season. Isn’t it obvious?

Not always. Our seasonal traditions are often intimately tied to specific people and places — like our childhood friends and family from home, s o it could feel strange imagining traditions in alternative ways. 15

However, exciting opportunities present themselves when you pause to really identify what it is that is positive for you and how you’d like to experience it. Focus on the season within your own home and own life as a young adult — with new friends/roommates, significant others and so forth… and what you’d like to perpetuate onward yourself and eventually pass onto others in years to come. After all, the more ways through which we celebrate our lives, the more we can positively affect those who are with us during these moments.

Here are 5 ways to start making your own personal and meaningful traditions. 16

No. 1 Plan a Get Together, It's that simple Sure, the calendar is full of parties this time of year, but take the lead on planning a get together that’s original and authentically “you” — whether it’s an afternoon of ice skating, donating time at a charity, attending a happy hour at a local cozy spot, dining out, spending a night in with favorite movies and hot chocolate, or better yet — hosting homemade soup making! However you prefer it, make it memorable by gathering your nearest and dearest for a little togethertime with all the right feels.

No. 2 Send a Thoughtful Card You don’t need to have a family, dog and kids of your own in order to send a little snail mail during the holidays — and if you prefer e-cards, that’s an excellent option too! The purpose of sending cards out this time of year is to let those who are on our minds, know they’re on our minds — and to give them a personified update (without the use of common social media) on what you’ve been up to over the course of the year (you can be short and sweet, or elaborative... there’s actually no protocol).

Also, don’t get too caught up with the timing in which you send your cards — you can send a New Year’s card, and that’s totally appropriate up until the very last day of winter!

No. 3 Make a Wish and Write It Down I s there anything you've talke d a lot a bout (or thought a lot about), but have never done anything about it? Write it down! Take the time to brainstorm all of the things that you think w ould make your life different or e ven more special and how you can achieve those goals.

Sometimes you just have to give yourself a little encouragement. Putting things to paper is an excellent start to the process in order to focus on your goals and elevate your game. Not to mention, it's a great time to do it, as you'll be more than ready for action in the New Year! No. 4 Take a Vacay, or a Staycay It’s easy to work a little too hard sometimes. So much to do, so little time! Though we often forget, spending time away from our computer (and even phone, gasp!), is a really, really good thing — especially during such a cozy season! Sure, you’ll miss emails and your voicemail might get full, leaving a lot to catch up on when you return. It happens, and it’s not that bad. The point here, is that taking time off makes you a healthier, happier and all around a more grounded person — and if you’re not getting some away time, you’ll unfortunately find yourself victim to going through the motions. Plan a trip, or just take a few days off to do those things for yourself that you’ve been meaning to do — like spending time with friends and family, finally painting your bedroom, getting that

facial, or finishing a book. If you feel like you need permission to decompress, consider this paragraph your prescribed advice - go enjoy! No. 5 Make a Treat There’s something so memorable about certain flavors and smells during this time of the year (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg...). Pick your favorite treat, or try something new like gluten-free, refined sugarfree, dairy-free, paleo and beyond — whatever tickles your fancy, whip it up and write the recipe down for keeps! Share with others, or not. We don’t judge.

Ornament Garlands Jazz up your space this season by using ornaments you already own, or even buying new ones! Opting for shiny metallics can make for the perfect NYE decoration too!

W

ith limited supplies needed and an opportunity to get thrifty, we had to share this simple DIY. This ornament garland is sure to add a festive accent to any room. Once you make it, you can reuse it year after year, or easily take it apart. Have you ever overbought when it comes to holiday decorations (we have!) — or maybe, you’ve accumulated various different ornaments over the years and don’t know how to pick and choose. Consider your problems solved! Get some crafty-self time in, or grab a friend — if you stick with more neutral colors, or let’s say, add a disco ball ornament or two, you can keep this garland up even after the tree is down and the ball drops!

20

SUP P L IE S •V arious ornaments of your choice (50 ornaments will give you about 3-feet of garland) • Twine • Scissors

1. M easure a piece of twine to the desired length, plus enough room to tie off the ends, about 6 inches (on each side) should do it. 2. G rab a handful of ornaments and start threading! Secure the first ornament to the twine with a double knot around the cap. 3. T hread the twine through the first ornament and continue to bundle them tightly to give the garland fullness. 4. O nce you’ve added all of your ornaments, secure the last ornament with a double knot around the cap. 5. Hang and admire!

Theme Your Gift Wrap Whether it’s a party favor or something under the tree, play up your gift by making it unique on the outside! Use festive addons that correlate with what’s inside.

W

hat do we love more than anything? A thoughtful gift! Thoughtfulness doesn’t mean pricey, or homemade. It means there’s something special about it that makes it stand out from the rest — for example: this scented bar of soap, wrapped up with a tree on top! For a thoughtful party favor, hostess gift, stocking stuffer or little something (perfectly fitting for all season long), use a bar of soap that smells of pine (who doesn’t love the smell of nature?!) and wrap it up with pretty paper and a pine tree. The pine tree acts as a little hint for what’s inside, and looks adorable too!

22

SUP P L IE S •A fresh, dry bar of pine soap (square or rectangle shapes work best) • W rapping paper of your choice (we suggest something a little more simple, not too festive). • Red twine (or other color of your choice) • Scotch tape • Mini pine trees • Scissors

HOW

TO

MAK E

IT

1. T o start, grab a dry bar of soap and a roll of wrapping paper. 2. P lace the bar of soap on a section of the wrapping paper and cut wrapping paper to desired size (as you normally would when gift wrapping). 3. W rap soap similar to how you would a very small gift box and apply tape as needed to secure ends. 4. C ut enough twine to fit around the soap, plus enough to tie a knot (it’s best to overestimate here as you can always trim it down later). 5. P lace the mini tree on top then tie the soap and tree together and secure with a knot. 6. Gift away! 23

The Perfect Little Party Hat Whether you’re celebrating NYE, a birthday or other special event, our mini party hat is a must-make!

C

onfetti is one of the greatest inventions of all time! It has the ability to make just about anyone excited to celebrate. The second greatest invention of all time you ask — a party hat, of course! Now, when you put the two together, you’re in for a lot of fun. You’d think making your own party hats would be super time consuming, but they’re actually very quick and easy. These guys took about 10 mins to craft up and we’ve used them again and again! Get ready to get a little messy (we didn’t say confetti was easy to clean up!) while having a blast in the process.

I mmediately roll the cones into a pile of confetti, sprinkling more confetti to fully cover the space you had sprayed with the adhesive. 5. A dd a little extra adhesive spray (or you can use a hot glue gun) to the tip-top of the cone and gently press on a mini pom-pom embellishment, if desired. 6. O nce the confetti is as you’d like on the cones (and pom-poms are secure), set aside to dry (about 2 minutes is fine). 7. W hile you wait for the cones to dry, measure the elastic string by holding it under your jaw and extending it to the top of your head. Cut as needed. 8. G rab your now confetti covered cones and secure the elastic string to each side with a double knot. 9. T hat’s it. Hip, hip, hooray! 25

Pop, Fizz, Ring In

The New Year! This is the perfect hostess gift for NYE — and it only takes about 2 mins to make!

I

t isn’t always easy to know what to gift a hostess. While of course it can depend on the type of event you’re attending and the person you’re gifting the item to, for the most part, something that contributes to the gathering is always a safe choice — like a bottle of sparkling wine or champagne (especially for a NYE bash!). This quick and easy DIY adds a little something extra to your average beverage and gives you an opportunity to leave a lasting impression. Grab a gorgeous bottle (we love this glittery one from One Hope) and let’s get started.

y love for baking started as a young kid during the holidays. There’s nothing better than being in the kitchen with your family baking treats and sipping hot chocolate. The winter season reminds me of why I do exactly what I do every day. As we enter a new year, don’t forget to feed your greatest passions, especially if it includes something sweet (but I may be bias!). Also, it’s important to remember that not all sweets have to be “bad” for you. That’s right. Keep reading below and you’ll see that many of the ingredients I’ve shared are ones that you can use even while you stick to your healthy-start New Year’s resolutions!

Whether it’s the holidays, or just any special day, something homemade makes for the perfect gift idea too. Try packaging up any of these goodies and you’re sure to bring a smile to someone’s face! 29

Honey Marshmallows

IN G RE DI E N T S 8x8 pan 8 tsp. kosher gelatin 1 cup water, divided 1 cup organic honey 2 tsp. vanilla extract 1/4 cup powdered sugar 1/4 cup cornstarch

DIR ECT IO N S 1. I n a small bowl, whisk the powdered sugar and cornstarch. 2. G enerously spray your pan with nonstick spray and cover with a piece of parchment paper. Cover the parchment paper with more nonstick spray and sprinkle half the cornstarch sugar mixture over it. You want the entire bottom and sides of the pan to be coated in white. Dump out the excess and set the pan aside. 3. I n the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, add 1/2 cup cold water and the gelatin. Set aside and let bloom.

4. A dd the remaining 1/2 cup water and the honey to a saucepan set over medium-high heat. Whisk to combine and then let the mixture come to a boil, without stirring at all. Continue to boil until it reaches 235 degrees, or the soft boil stage on a thermometer and immediately take off heat. 5. S tart to whisk the softened gelatin on low speed. While the mixer is on low, slowly add in the honey mixture. Once all of it is added, turn the mixer up to high and beat for about 10 minutes. You want the mixture to have doubled in size, and super light, white, and fluffy. In the very end, add in the vanilla extract and whisk just until it’s incorporated. 6. A s fast as possible, add the marshmallow mixture to your pan and even out the top with an offset spatula. Sprinkle the top of the marshmallows with more cornstarch sugar mixture and lightly press into the top of the marshmallow block. 7. L et them set for about 4 hours. Once they have cooled and set, punch out with your favorite Christmas cookie cutter, or cut into squares and sprinkle edible glitter or gold/silver leaf on top to make it extra festive!

31

Honey Lollipops

IN G RE DI E N T S 3/4 cup honey 1/4 cup water 2 cup sugar 1/4 tsp ground ginger, optional 1/2 tsp dried lavender, optional Lollipop sticks Lollipop mold Edible gold dust Vodka, a couple drops

DIR ECT IO N S 1. S pray the lollipop mold with nonstick spray and set aside until you’re ready to use. 2. C ombine the honey, water and sugar (and either ginger OR lavender, if using) in a saucepan and set over medium high heat. Whisk to combine it all and then let it set. Cook until mixture reaches 310 degrees, or hard crack stage. 3. I mmediately pour the candy mixture into the molds. The longer you wait, the harder the mix will become. Once the candy has been poured into the mold, place the lollipop sticks in the center of each. Let the lollies harden about 30 minutes. 4. To make them more festive looking, decorate with edible gold dust. I mixed a little gold dust with a couple of drops of vodka and splatter the gold paint on the tops of the lollipops.

Mini Apple Pear Pies

ING REDI E N T S Pie Dough

Crumble

1 cup all purpose flour, plus extra for rolling out

(Enough for 3-4 pies)

1 1/2 cups coconut flour

1 cup coconut flour

1 tsp salt

1/2 cup coconut sugar

1 tsp coconut sugar

1/2 cup rolled oats

1 cup of cold butter, or cold coconut oil

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/3 cup ice cold water

1/2 cup melted coconut oil, or butter

Mini aluminum pie tins Egg Wash Filling

1 egg

1/3 cup coconut sugar

1 tble water

1 tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp salt 2 pears (anjou or bartlett), skin removed and sliced 1 granny smith apple, skin removed and sliced 34

D I RECT I ON S Mix 1. C ombine both flours, salt, and sugar in a food processor and pulse to combine. Add in the butter or coconut oil and pulse until your mixture resembles small crumbs. Add in the water and pulse just until combined. Flatten your dough out into a disk and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill your dough for about 30 minutes, or until no longer soft. 2. I n a small bowl, combine the pears, Apple, coconut sugar, salt and cinnamon. Set aside until ready to use. 3. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.

Assemble 4. O nce your dough is chilled, lightly flour your work service. Roll out the dough until it is about 1/4 high. 5. T ake a pie tin and flip it upside down on top of the dough. With a small pairing knife, or toothpick, lightly outline the tin into the dough. Do this until entire dough is used up. 6. C ut the circles out and place into your tins. Fill each tin to the tops with the fruit mixture. 36

Decorate 7. N ow it’s time to decorate the tops. I like doing each pie just a little different from the next. I like to reroll the scraps of pie dough and cut into fun holiday shapes. If you’re topping your pies with pie crust instead of a crumble, make sure to brush a little egg wash (just whisk the egg and water together until frothy) on top to make the tops a nice golden brown. Note: you can also top some of your pies with crumble. Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl and mix with your hands until completely combined.

fternoon tea is one of the best ways to embrace cooler temps and simply unwind. One of our favorite places to get into the spirit of the season is at the Fairmont San Francisco. Afternoon Tea has been a tradition for San Franciscans and the guests of the historic hotel since the opening of Fairmont San Francisco in 1907. During its tenure, afternoon tea service has been offered at numerous venues throughout the hotel. In 2011, the Laurel Court Restaurant and Bar was returned to its original grandeur as the centerpiece of their gorgeous lobby. If you’re looking for an authentic experience, look no further! Fairmont San Francisco offers traditional afternoon tea service in the same style it was served in the Laurel Court 100 years ago. If you’re planning to host a tea party of your own, we asked the pros at the Fairmont San Francisco for a list of essentials to have on hand.

First and foremost, you’ll need assorted teas (Earl Grey is always a popular one!), and then the following: • tea cups

• sugar

• tea pot

• tea stand

• tea strainer

• scones

• teaspoon

• devonshire cream

• creamer

• lemon curd

• lemons

• mini desserts

• honey

• assorted tea sandwiches

Now, gather the girls and get sipping! 39

A Festive Touch Simple ways to dress up your home with greenery and florals BY JENNY YI CEO/FOUNDER CHLOE + MINT

I just love decorating for the season

I

just love decorating for the season with a hint of glam! There are so many ways to add a festive touch to your space throughout the winter months — whether you opt for a more traditional take or want to try something a little outside the norm, what’s most important is that however you decide to decorate, that it reflects your personal taste and style. Let’s say you often lean more towards pinks rather than reds. Run with it confidently — don’t let the stereotypes of the season stand in your way! Working in events and floral design, I’ve learned that there are no wrongs. Of course, there are ways in which you can style certain colors or aspects that complement each other, but the most important thing to do is simply follow your unique style and gut. Aspects of nature, like florals (and olive trees!), are a beautiful way to decorate during the festive season without getting too caught up in what might be predictable. To help inspire your creativity, we’ve put together a few ideas for you to glance at while dressing up your home.

45

Your average can be spruced up by spray painting a few elements. In this case, we've spray painted the pine cones which added a little more glam. You can even tuck in other greenery or flowers. Hang this piece on a door, over the corner of a mirror or above a fireplace!

Cedar

is a quick and easy way to achieve a festive feel anywhere! Place it on a table top to act as a miniature garland or over a mantle, entry table, or even in a vase — there are so many options with this lush greenery. For this look, we added in some flowers and rose gold candles to give it a sparkle. It not only smells great but looks great too!

Decorative arrangements

don't always have to be fresh.

Decorative arrangements don’t always have to be fresh! A unique way to create something that lasts a bit longer is using dried flowers and herbs. It's a great way to keep something pretty alongside a windowsill or bedside table through the new year and beyond. Here are some suggestions you might want to pick up:

48

Dry florals + herbs Lavender • Sage • Eucalyptus Rice flower • Strawflowers

Lastly,

colors!

Remember, don't shy away from incorporating other colors besides green and red. This season, we decided to mix the greens with hot pink, magenta and marsala. Those colors worked great with the greens and rose gold. Even deeper shades of blues with shades of silver and gray are amazing! The key is to use a few elements that remind you of winter, but always make ityour own by adding your favorite color or two!

From Classic Bun to Glitter Glam

o add some glam to any festive look, try a new do! From shimmering cocktail attire, to jeans and statement shoes, good hair is always a good idea. During this time of year, you can count on bouncing from party to party, catching up with family and friends and of course, a lot of photo opps! Most of us typically opt for what’s easiest or most familiar when it comes to glam, because let’s face it, you can’t mess up something you’re comfortable with — but, we should allow this season to be an opportunity to challenge ourselves and step outside the norm. Don’t you think? Or at least, perfect those looks you already know and love. To give you a little head start we’ve created four easy to do (and timeless) hair looks that will take you well beyond the holidays. Grab yourself a seat in front of the mirror and let’s get started!

52

The ever so chic CLASSIC

BUN

Tie hair with a rubber band at the base (like a ponytail), twist the hair around itself in the direction you want the bun to go and wrap around until you reach the end of your hair. Secure the bun with bobby pins where your hand is holding it down first. Then, pin everywhere else until secure. It’s that simple!

53

Year-round BEACH CURLS

BABE

Using a curling iron (we used a ½ inch iron), slightly twist a small section of hair (about an inch) and wrap it around the curling iron, curling away from your face. Every now and then, alternate the direction you curl sections of hair (but mostly curl back, away from the face) so your hair doesn’t become too uniform. Continue until all of your hair is completely curled. Slightly tug at the curls starting from underneath and at the bottom, shake your head and give it a good spray with your favorite hairspray.

Everything nice, GLITTER &GLAM Start by grabbing a gel that dries glossy (also good for a wet look, but more on that another time!) and a loose glitter of your choice. Part hair on desired side and get ready to use a lot of product. Take small sections starting from the back of your part and gel hair well until you reach the hairline. Use a comb to help smooth your hair down. Then, mix glitter and gel in a bowl, about 50/50 ratio. Using a clean paint brush, paint glitter/gel mixture on top. Then, party time! 54

Not your average BRAID First, grab two parts of your hair from each side, bringing them together loosely (similar to a half up and half down look). Take your two sections and twist your hair inward. Using a rubber band (we used clear), combine the two sections by tying them together (leave a ½ inch piece of whair out for tying around the hair band if desired) — and from there, using the loose part of your hair, choose whatever braid you feel comfortable with and braid down until you’ve almost made it to the ends of your hair. Grab another rubber band and secure tightly under the braid. Now, take a look back at your braid and for a looser look, gently pull braid out slightly to give it a little extra volume and an effortless look.

Glitz, glitter & the perfect little mess How to throw the easiest New Year’s Eve party ever. 56

successful New Year’s eve means lots of glitter, laughs, and of course, champagne. Not to mention, this time of year is the perfect excuse to get all dolled up. How you close 2016 and kick off 2017 sets the tone for the year ahead. While some may think there’s a lot that goes into throwing a festive gathering, we’re here to tell you, it can be really easy — and inexpensive too. The big night is just around the corner (don’t you feel like it always sneaks up so fast?). So, grab your closest friends, a few bottles of champagne — and get celebrating!

58

Here’s what you need: Location, location Personally, we love intimate gatherings. Opting to stay at home means all your supplies are only an arm's reach away and you can keep it cozy! You’ll also save a ton of money (bonus!). Create a designated spot to do most of the celebrating, like a living room where you have some space for displaying goodies, and decorate heavily there as the focal point of your bash (this also keeps all guests in one area, rather than spread out).

59

Flowers…are always a good idea Flowers are one of the most beautiful ways to add something special to your party. You can pickup gorgeous seasonal blooms at your local farmer’s market, grocery store or florist. Here, we used soft pink roses and greenery. To make the bouquet festive, we sprayed the ends of the greenery with gold spray paint. To try this, look for spray paint that’s safe for florals and lightly spray your greenery or blooms before you arrange them. Be sure to use spray paint at a properly prepped outdoor location (spray paint can be a little messy).

60

Glitter, confetti, and all the glitz This is where you get creative! All those things that come to mind when you think of New Year’s Eve — gather it up, and a lot of it! Like glitter, confetti, and tinsel (all things you can find at your local craft store, or even dollar store). Work around your centerpiece. In our case, we used florals and went from there. Dress things up without overthinking it — a little here, a little there. You can add books, a basket of metallic ornaments (mini discoballs are adorable!) and incorporate the necessities, like party poppers, noisemakers and hats into your decoration. You want your party to look fun and festive of course, but also welcoming for guest to just dig in, pour a drink, or put on a party hat.

61

Treats and drinks When hosting a late evening gathering, you can provide guests with treats and drinks rather than a full spread of food. Include easy to grab snacks, your signature homemade cookies, or anything else that you know majority will enjoy — while still taking the presentation into consideration. You can also use edible glitter to top cupcakes or any other treats in order to incorporate them into the decorations.

62

Get Your game on Games make for great conversation starts or ice breakers. We created party game cards which are a fun way to look back at the year and pass the time until midnight. Also, everyone loves a good 8-ball reading! The sky's the limit when it comes to party games.

63

64

Now that you’ve dressed up your space, dedicate some time to you! Needs some tips on your makeup look for the festivities? We asked the pros at Blushington Mwakeup & Beauty Lounge how to get party ready this season — here’s what they had to say:

Glam Up for the Countdown This season it's all about bronzed and radiant skin with clean, defined and illuminated eyes finished with a modern lip! Start your flawless glow with a luminous base like Jouer's Luminizing Moisture tint paired with the Jouer Anti-Aging Concealer. Sculpt out the cheeks with a bronzer/highlighter duo. At Blushington, we love Kevyn Aucoin Tropical Days to get dimension. Use the bronzer in the hollows of the cheek and the highlighter on the cheekbones. Try a blush like Becca's Rose Gold Pressed Shimmering Skin Perfector on the apples of the cheek.

For the eyes, apply a soft matte brown in the crease like Girlactik Star Shadow in Skin and pop a shimmery gold on the lid with Girlactik Star Shadow in Golda. For the more adventurous types, add our exclusive Girlactik Shadow Stick in Dazzle to amp up the sparkle! Line the top of the lash line with Stila Stay All Day Liquid Liner and smudge the bottom lashline with Stila Smudge Stick in Lionfish. Apply Stila Huge Extreme Lash Mascara to the lashes for major impact! Finally, for your lips, you can pick a perfect modern red shade that's more versatile than a bright classic red such as Julie Hewett's Coco Noir lipstick. 65

Tips for finding & keeping love in your life.

Photography: Vanessa Tierney Pajamas: Toss Designs

W

e all know love isn't easy. Not just finding it, but keeping it can be tricky. How do you know when it's right? How do you know when it's wrong? Or, what if it feels right, then one day, out of the blue, it feels wrong? These are the types of questions that everyone faces when it comes to the L word. The important thing is to worry less about the questions that might be troubling you and focus more on just loving wholeheartedly with no worries, regret, or fear. There are so many books, articles, and even holidays (cough, cough, Valentine's Day), that can make love (in real life) seem downright depressing, or just not good enough. In your everyday life (let's remove love from the equation for a second), if you let yourself be defined by "perfectionist" type standards, you can't possibly be happy — in friendships, work life, and so on. In love, it's the exact same. The wise Carrie Bradshaw once said, "don't forget to fall in love with yourself first" and we couldn't agree more! The most important aspect of finding love and keeping love is to be happy — and

to be happy in love, you have to be happy with yourself first. When we're happy, the world feels like it's spinning in the right direction on its axis and that's an incredible feeling — a feeling that's comparable to... yup, love.

detrimental to our health and the precious time we could be spending on more important things in our day, night, or weekend. Even your best friend is probably exhausted with all your worrying. We've all been there, but we're here to tell you that worrying actually solves This in mind, whether you're nothing. Learn to let the single, attached, or in some unchangeable, uncontrollable type of supercomplication, and unessential things go and here are several tips to help you'll feel liberated. bring you closer to all the things you want in love. Mistakes happen, celebrate them: Think of all the times Worry less: As women, you made a mistake. You it's innate that we worry. learned something, right? We worry so much we (no, that's not a question). could be senior level Mistakes help us grow, professionals at it (job mature and become the type goals!). Honestly though, of people we're supposed worrying is exhaustively to become in life and in

love life. When we say to make mistakes and celebrate them, we're not insinuating that it’s okay to go date a total jerk. What we are telling you is that it's a lot easier to move past mistakes when you acknowledge that all people will make them. No one is perfect (that includes you, no matter how hard you try). Mistakes are character building — and after them, you’ll earn some fortitude! Listen, kinda: You know yourself better than anyone else, so listen to the advice of others, but still keep the grain of salt handy. At times, we can get too caught up in what others have to say about relationships that we stop listening to our internal self speak. Suddenly, you can't make any decisions on your own and you lose the sense of being uniquely you. Hold true to who you are, master your independence (still possible in a relationship!) and don't be afraid to shine your own light on a situation. Give more, ask for less: Valentine's Day is a perfect example! Don't prefabricate a list of expectations that this day and evening will be - just like the movies and 72

commercials. In fact — we suggest creating a new day of love in February (you'll avoid the consumerism and average tasting pre fixe menu too!). Whether with girlfriends, boyfriend, family, or pet — consider this an opportunity to jump ahead with love and appreciation for those you care about — expectations aside. You'll find that the more you shower others with love, the more it gives in reciprocity.

Forget about perfection: Perfect is only perfect if it's perfect for you. Maybe, you actually do love long walks on the beach, or maybe you're more of a sweatpants and movie night kind of girl. Whatever feels perfect for you is the standard. There is no right or wrong way to embrace love, just remember to enjoy it in all aspects of your life — and always, always share it with others.

Perfect is only perfect if it's perfect for you. 73
