Can you believe it is October already? Mentoring has begun! All of the parents/guardians of last year's Kids Hope kids, have given their approval for us to see their child again this year! I met each of the mentors at schools to show them what room each of their kids were in and introduce them to the teacher. It was so heart warming to see the expressions on each child when their mentor walked into the room. They were so excited! Letters have gone out to parents/guardians of ten new kids requesting their approval for us to mentor the kids. The approvals have not been received as of Friday. The school will be sending a second letter out on Tuesday. Please pray that the approvals are returned. These are children that the teachers feel mentoring be a benefit to the child. We have the mentors and prayer partners ready and waiting! I am so thrilled with all the mentors and prayer partners this year! The mentors are all excited about mentoring. The prayer partners are anxious to begin their journey with the mentors and kids. Kids Hope mentors spend just one hour per week reading, talking, playing games, and listening to a child. By helping the child feel loved and valued, they help that child to learn, grow, and succeed! If you want to join the Kids Hope Team to help change lives of children at Mineral Wells School contact me at the church or call (304) 483-5642. Nancy Barton

Purpose: “The primary purpose of the WVCEOS program is education. The basis for its existence is the desire of people to improve the quality of their living and to inspire families and individuals to make learning an adventure.” Other purposes are to further strengthen, develop, coordinate and extend adult education in cooperation with the WVU Extension Service to increase knowledge and understanding. Those who continue education and seek to broaden their horizons experience fulfillment and satisfaction when serving the family and community. Country Roads CEOS Goals: 1. Support Old Man Rivers by making Christmas stockings. 2. Support County Projects and Breast Cancer Awareness. 3. Support Area Youth 4-H, Mt. Pleasant UMC Food Pantry and the WVU Exchange Student.

Country Roads CEOS meets the second Tuesday of the month at 9:30 in the Fellowship Hall here at Mt. Pleasant UMC. Our next meeting is Tuesday, October 10th. For more information contact Vera Smith, club president at 304-428-2093 or vdart68@yahoo.com or the Wood County WVU Extension Service at 304-424-1960. The Family Ministries team is sponsoring a Trunk or Treat at the church on Sunday evening , October 29th from 5-7 pm. We will be inviting children from our church, preschool, Mineral Wells school, etc. to participate. Please invite your friends and neighbors!! During this event we need volunteers who will decorate the trunk of their car and hand out candy or small toys. The decorated cars will be in the upper lot. We will ask those attending to park in the lower lot. There are great ideas online for decorating your trunk. Some ideas might include a Biblical theme such as Noah's Ark or Daniel in the lion’s den. You might make a pumpkin patch, a sports theme, or a Trunk decorated as a theme of a children’s book, movie or game. Family Ministries will give prizes to those with the best decorated trunks. It would be great to included an activity for children to do … such as a ball toss, beanbag toss or fish pond in some of the trunks. We plant to serve popcorn and drinks to children and families. Please let Melanie Matheny know (304-415-5332) if you are willing to decorate your trunk and hand out candy or novelty items. Plan for 100 children. If we are running out of candy, we can always get more!

The Rising Stars have had a wonderful time so far! We have had approximately 20 children join us for our first few meetings. Hopefully we can continue to see more children join us and have that number grow! The children are singing familiar Bible songs, praying together and enjoying games and snacks! We are thrilled to see them want to fellowship together and learn about God’s love! We want to wish Caden Lynch (October 10) and Damien Shaffer (October 13) a very

Remember, October marks the beginning of Christmas program practice! If you have not signed your child up to participate, please see or contact Christin Parrish. The program is set for Sunday, December 3rd at 6:30 pm. A dress rehearsal is scheduled for the day before but a time has not been set yet. It’s important for your child to attend, if possible, because this is most likely the only chance we might have to practice in the sanctuary. Thank you and God Bless You, The Rising Stars Leaders
