extending God’s influence and impact beyond this generation

We currently have received $63,295 toward the Land Purchase and Playground upgrade .

We give up things we love for things we love even more. Giving up our small trinkets is nothing compared to joining God’s noble purpose.

The men in most churches are a silent, overlooked, underutilized power just waiting to be tapped. Most men tend to be doers rather than planners and committee meeting junkies. But…when these same men become focused on a task and united behind a noble cause, you awaken a sleeping giant that brings new energy and life to the church. Together we will encourage one another to stand up and do more than anyone thought possible. We will create opportunities to roll up your sleeves and make a difference. Here are a just a few ideas we’re working on… Pit Stop Ministry – Providing oil changes and general car maintenance/repair Carpenter’s Helpers – Providing critical home repairs for those needing assistance and support. Fellowship Ministry – Celebrating life (softball, bowling, golf, whitewater rafting, skiing, etc.) For more information: www.mympumc.net/mens-ministry/

As the leaves change color, so does Wednesday night dinner. We have asked for suggestions and we have heard to make the meals more affordable and have a Bible Study afterward. To make it more affordable to more people, we are going to explore other food providers. We are planning on trying Leap of Faith, Cracker Barrel, Papa John's and Blended Catering to provide the meals. I would like for you to complete a short survey each week to let us know if you liked the vendor. We are also looking for someone to lead a bible study. If are interested in leading the Bible study, please contact me. If you would like to help with Wednesday night dinner, please contact m e and I will put you in touch with a team captain. We really enjoy the chance to visit with others as we work on the dinners. God Bless, Jenny I wish I had the right words to express m y gratitude for all this church does to make Linette and I feel like we are truly among friends. You say it with laughter, with a smile and in countless other little expressions that mean so much to us! I have learned over the years that true friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest or even those who say nice things about you. It’s about those who walk into your life and say, “I’m here for you.” And then set about to prove it. Linette and I want to say “Thank You” from the bottom of our hearts for walking into our lives and proving to us again and again that Mt Pleasant is a special place filled with special people. And we are privileged to call them our friends! We are especially grateful to everyone on the SPRC team for the planning and preparation for the luncheon on the 15th as well as the lovely gifts. We received a big box full of cards and notes that m ean the world to us. So, with a full and grateful heart… Thank You!

News from the Preschool We at Mt. Pleasant Preschool would like to take this opportunity to focus on the things we are most thankful for in November. We will read several books, and make several projects where we can express our gratitude for the many blessings bestowed upon us. Our 3-year-old class is busy polishing up their colors and fine motor skills. Our first field trip to Sweet Apple Farm was very successful. The kids were wonderful and had a blast! Our 4-year-old Kindergarten Readiness Class has been focusing on letters A– G and will memorizing 8 sight words in November. They really enjoyed their first field trip to the Vienna Fire Station and loved riding on a real fire truck! Both classes are doing well and are looking forward to the upcoming Halloween Parties! A huge thank you to those who purchased “Crazy About Cookies” cookie dough! We truly appreciate your support! During the month of November, we will be conducting our Rada Cutlery fundraiser. Special thanks to Sherry Hinton for doing it for us! Also, a HUGE thanks to Sherry for painting some of our playground equipment! PLAYGROUND REMINDER: Mt. Pleasant Preschool maintains the playground out back. If you or your organization uses it, please leave it in the condition you find it. Please put the toys in tubs, lids on the tubs and sand table. We pick it up each and every time we use it, so your consideration is deeply appreciated!

Join Us for our Fifth Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner Thursday evening, November 16, 2017 ~ 5:00 – 7:00 Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church

We want our students to have many opportunities to serve God alongside and for our church and community! Help your children get connected! We ask them to take the opportunity to be greeters, ushers, communion servers, special music, and participate in community outreach. Talk to your child to see if they have interest in any of these. Many times young people want to be a part of things but won’t ask or volunteer for fear of not knowing what to do. Take a few minutes to talk to them about what roles they would like to be a part of and share their interests with Pastor Steve and Amanda. Many times they won’t volunteer or they say “no” because they are unsure of what is expected of them. Some upcoming events where they can serve: Nov. 3 South vs PHS Tailgate (S'mores Bar and Hot Cocoa) Nov. 11 Pantry Food Drive @ Southside Kroger Nov. 16 Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the church 5– 7 pm Nov. 17-19 WV Conference Youth Fall Workshop Go to https://www.wvumc.org/fall-workshop/ For years, youth from throughout the West Virginia Annual Conference have gathered together each fall to worship, pray and take a hands-on approach to life and faith ...

The Rising Stars are doing a wonderful job with their Christmas program practice so far. We have been introducing a few new songs but singing some familiar ones too! We think they are really having a good time practicing their parts. The Star of Wonder Christmas program is sure to be a hit! Remember, the Christmas program is scheduled for Sunday, December 3rd at 6:30 pm. A small reception with light refreshments will follow after the program in the fellowship hall. We do ask that our children arrive by 6:00 pm to have enough time for costume changes and any review necessary before going on stage. We will have a dress rehearsal on Saturday, December 2nd. The time is yet to be determined. We hope all the participants are available for rehearsal because this will most likely be our only chance to practice in the sanctuary. Lunch will be provided for the children that afternoon. The Christmas program will be our last meeting for the year! Spring meetings will resume in February. We understand that Christmas is a very busy season! The Rising Stars will be participating in a service project for Christmas. We will encourage them to bring in toy and clothing donations for charity during the month of November. A “Giving Box” will be available soon to collect donated toys and clothes. This is a wonderful way to teach our children about giving and kindness. We hope they will be encouraged at home to find items to donate. We appreciate your help! We would like to wish a very Happy Birthday to Aidan Garrett (November 2nd), Cam Fallon (November 9th) and Brayden Gallagher (November 25th) !! We hope you know just how special you are and hope you have a wonderful day filled with blessings! God Bless You!

The Rising Stars Leaders Thanksgiving is fast approaching! We have so much to be thankful for. The mentors and their prayer partners are off to a good start with the kids from last year’s mentoring. I have been blessed to be able to see the faces of the kids when I show up in their new classrooms with their mentor to introduce him/her to the kids new teacher. They have been so excited and their faces just light up with big smiles! I wish you all could see how much the mentors mean to these children. I thank God for making this ministry possible and for our prayer partners who are praying for the mentors and kids!

Pastor Steve heard me talk about the excitement of last year’s kids upon seeing their mentor and suggested asking the mentors to write a paragraph about their feelings seeing the kids. I asked different mentors to write something. This month Whit Parrish wrote about his child. Whit is mentoring for the first time to a student who was in last year’s group. NancyBarton

My 1st Day Mentoring So many thoughts running through my head that 1st

Day, I'm sure the same for my

student. You want to make a lasting first impression, get things started on the right foot. I prayed for this day for several weeks, that we'd both open up and learn from each other. Once we broke through the awkward first few minutes, we were actually having fun right from the start. First impression was how competitive he was, we played cards, war was his favorite. Then we moved to board games and finally on to a book about us. We both drew pictures of our families and hobbies. I look back on the 1st Day and really was so natural, surprising how prayer works in ways you never dreamed. As we continue to grow, I pray for a bright future for my little guy! God Bless! Whit Parrish “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for all of your contributions to this special ministry! You may shop, pack the food, help deliver it to the school, make crafts for our Craft Shows and other fundraisers, contribute special ideas, make financial contributions and offer a helping hand wherever it is needed. A special thank you to Melanie Garrett: She posted on Facebook about a raffle for a pair of LuLaRoe Leggings. What an idea! And to Donna Linsell: She grew herbs and vegetables this summer and donated all the money to SAK PAK. We need every one of you to keep this program going! Our Craft Show at Mineral Wells Elementary was great!!! There were 40 vendors and crafters and approximately 275 people that attended the show. We have another show coming up soon.

SAK PAK was started 4 years ago. Oh how I have been blessed by some of these families. I never knew how much this program could impact a family. This particular family started with us, helped pack food and even helped with a bake sale to benefit SAK PAK. They moved to Maryland over a year ago. Tashia sent me an email asking about how to start a SAK PAK program there. I sent her some information. I was so surprised and blessed to hear about how God is working there. I want to share her letter with all of you.

Sherry, “Thank you, Sherry! I am so excited to tell you that things are moving so fast for Gabby. (Tashia is the mother and Gabby is the daughter that was in our SAK PAK Program. Gabby is a teenager now.) It’s unbelievable. It is truly GOD in action!!! I have been part of The Somerset Committee for the Homeless for several months now. It’s one of the best things I have been able to be a part of. Last Tuesday and Wednesday, Gabby and I baked desserts for the Open House Party and Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the brand new homeless shelter we are opening here in Princess Anne, Maryland. Gabby and I volunteered to stay and work also. We had such an amazing turnout. We raised over $2,500 and had numerous people sign up to be volunteers. After the party and the clean-up, Gabby was able to talk to the Local Management Board and The Judy Center (early child care and family education centers) about how she has been effected by the epidemic of childhood hunger, how she gave up her lunch almost every day last school year because she felt that someone needed it more than she did. She began to talk about how she worked with this amazing program in WV called SAK PAK. She explained what the program was and how it worked . She told them how she loved being involved with packing the food bags and what it meant to her to receive the foodbags while her little sister was in the hospital and I was away. She said she knew half way through her school year last year that she wanted to somehow start the SAK PAK program here … for the kids that needed it so desperately and then, as we became more involved with the 4-H here she learned about the Maryland 4-H Diamond Clover Award Program. It has challenged her to come up with a major community service project to complete the six year program (she got to bring her WV 4-H accomplishments and apply them to the program). She knew it was the perfect opportunity to start the SAK PAK program. The ladies listened in awe with huge smiles on their faces and when Gabby finished talking, one lady said, “You know, I have extra money in my food program. I can reallocate to you for this.” Another lady said, “I have extra food money in my budget also. I think we just found you the money you need to get started. The second lady said, “I have connections with the school and I can get you the school and provide you a room to pack in and a place to keep your extra food.” So, tonight, after school, I took her to the elementary school where she wanted to pilot the program to talk to the principal. Again, she explained the program and what it meant to her and showed the principal the sample menu. The principal said, “We just talked about trying to start something like this. You know we partner with the local food bank and we can probably get you your food from them.” So again, I am telling you THIS IS GOD AT WORK!!! But, we couldn’t have done it without you and for that we are forever grateful. The school has already asked her to get letters ready to send the information home to the families and she already has several people signed up to help start packing. I am so excited for her!!! Tashia

I cried as I read this. Just to know the positive effect this program has on families, means so much to me. I may never know every family or how it changes their lives, but I do know how it has impacted this family. I am so excited to hear that this program has now reached Maryland. Sherry Hinton
