FIND PURPOSE
At Roger Williams University, we don’t just stand by our principles. We live by them. As a private university with a public purpose, we channel our collective effort toward a singular goal – to strengthen society through engaged teaching and learning.
Across two campuses and eight schools, our 6,500 students learn and live out our mission of strengthening society in the various programs and activities that make up the RWU experience.
OUR INSPIRATION: THE LIVELY In 1635, early in our country’s formation, a grand and lively experiment was born. After being banished from Massachusetts, Roger Williams established the state of Rhode Island as an open experiment in democracy, freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, and respect for native populations. That spirit is our guide for what we believe a modern university must be in the world today.
EXPERIMENT Greetings from Rhode Island! There has never been a better time for you to consider Roger Williams University as a partner in your educational journey. The world continues to change rapidly and new jobs, careers and industries are developed seemingly overnight. You need to be prepared. RWU is focused on keeping up with these changes to be the University the world needs now. With eight schools of study, including Rhode Island’s only school of law, we blend professional studies with the liberal arts in a way that few universities of our size can. Across two campuses you will connect your learning with community partners tackling real-world projects that will prepare you for wherever your path will take you. To be a university the world needs now, we need to enroll students with the ambition and drive to become the problem-solvers the world needs now! We seek students with a passion for social justice and a desire to integrate their classroom learning with the greater community. We invite you to learn more about us in the pages ahead and visit us to see our vibrant community in action. I hope you join us for the next chapter of your learning.

GAIN
EXPERIENCE
We continually invest in innovative programs to provide educational experiences that will prepare you to be a lifelong learner, engaged professional, and global citizen. By tackling community projects, completing internships (locally and abroad), or conducting research with faculty, RWU students solve real-world problems throughout their academic careers. With our strong commitment to undergraduate education, these opportunities, which are usually reserved for graduate students at other universities, are open to you at RWU.
FUTURE-PROOF YOUR DEGREE:
IT’S AT THE CORE OF OUR CURRICULUM Today’s college graduates rarely start and finish their career in one job at one company. This means your learning can’t stop when you earn your degree. You need to acquire abilities that take you beyond knowing specific skills or just one way of thinking. That’s why our Core will strengthen how you learn rather than simply teach you a prescribed list of topics. Our Core Curriculum will provide you with the breadth and depth we know employers need no matter where your career takes you.
Our five-course Core Curriculum sequence exposes you to a wide variety of academic disciplines and ways of thinking and learning. For students without a major in mind, these courses are a great way to explore the various schools of thought available to you at RWU. CORE 101 teaches you the scientific process of inquiry and research. CORE 102 explores citizenship and political systems by studying the challenges of democracy through timeless topics such as reason, equality, and liberty. CORE 103 strengthens your cultural competency by considering diversity
and human behavior from multiple perspectives. CORE 104 asks you to look inward and uses liberal arts fields such as literature and philosophy to examine what it truly means to live. CORE 105 explores the artistic impulse through various modes of expression such as visual art, theater, dance, and music.
YOUR CORE CONCENTRATION will push you to dive deeply into one specific academic program outside of your chosen major. This means you’ll leave RWU with significant knowledge in at least two fields of study. This could mean adding a new language to your Construction Management major or supplementing your Marine Biology major with a Photography minor. You can leverage your Core Concentration and easily turn it into a minor or second major to set your resume apart. IN TODAY’S MARKETPLACE, professionals can’t just know
specific content to be successful. They need to present and defend ideas, understand the context of myriad problems and apply their knowledge in order to design solutions that work. The Core’s Senior Seminar, part of your final year at RWU, integrates everything you’ve learned as you explore a variety of topics in a capstone format. You’ll defend your own original ideas by creating a meaningful senior project.

Apply online using the Common Application: Visit www.commonapp.org or http://you.rwu.edu/apply Application Deadlines (Fall) Early Action (EA): November 15 Regular Decision (RD): February 1
Test-Optional Policy Submission of standardized test scores is optional for admission to Roger Williams University. On our admission application, students indicate whether or not they wish for their test scores to be considered as a part of our review. Two Considerations: • The Rhode Island Department of Education requires various testing benchmarks to pursue Elementary or Secondary Education majors. These majors are encouraged to include testing as part of their application so we can review for admission and advise students accordingly. • International students, for whom English is not the primary language, are encouraged to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to receive consideration for the best admission pathway for their level of English proficiency: direct admission, the RWU ESL Bridge Program or our conditional admission option.
Special Admission Requirements Notification EA decisions are mailed approximately 4-6 weeks after the deadline in mid-December. For RD students, decisions are reviewed on a continuous (rolling) basis.
The Review Process Roger Williams University performs a holistic review of each applicant, taking into consideration academic preparation along with personal interests and involvement. The University seeks students with a demonstrated capacity for academic achievement, who also possess intellectual curiosity, strength of character and a sense of social responsibility. We welcome applications from prospective first-year students and transfers.
Various academic programs require additional materials in the admission review process: Architecture (portfolio), Creative Writing (portfolio), Dance/Performance Studies (audition), and Visual Arts (portfolio). For a full list of these requirements, please visit us online at: http://you.rwu.edu/requirements.
The University Honors Program Academically talented incoming freshmen may apply to the University Honors Program through the Common Application or online at: honors.rwu.edu. Students interested in Honors are highly encouraged to apply under our EA application deadline to receive full consideration. RD review will be on a space available basis only.

We are here to help you explore all your options and make a solid financial plan to earn your degree. We have increased our financial aid investments over the past five years by adding an additional $52 million in institutional grants and scholarships, and we hire over 1,300 students for jobs on and off campus. We are committed to working with you to develop a financial pathway to and through the university. We want to make sure that every family feels comfortable and confident in their higher education decision academically, financially, and socially.
