Choosing a college major couldn’t have been simpler for Alexia. Fascinated with physics and math in high school, she grew up watching tons of new construction take shape all around her in Rwanda’s capital city. Through her civil engineering specialization and hands-on projects at RWU, she’s gained the knowledge and experience she needs to help maintain existing infrastructure and help design the cities of tomorrow. APPLYING TO RWU HOW TO APPLY From the admission process and throughout your education, we are committed to providing a solid academic and financial foundation so you can forge your path through Roger Williams and meet your personal and professional goals.
Apply online using the Common Application: Visit www.commonapp.org or http://you.rwu.edu/apply Application Deadlines (Fall) Early Action (EA): November 15 Regular Decision (RD): February 1
Test-Optional Policy Submission of standardized test scores is optional for admission to Roger Williams University. On our admission application, students indicate whether or not they wish for their test scores to be considered as a part of our review. Two Considerations: • The Rhode Island Department of Education requires various testing benchmarks to pursue Elementary or Secondary Education majors. These majors are encouraged to include testing as part of their application so we can review for admission and advise students accordingly. • International students, for whom English is not the primary language, are encouraged to submit TOEFL or IELTS scores to receive consideration for the best admission pathway for their level of English proficiency: direct admission, the RWU ESL Bridge Program or our conditional admission option.
Special Admission Requirements Notification EA decisions are mailed approximately 4-6 weeks after the deadline in mid-December. For RD students, decisions are reviewed on a continuous (rolling) basis.
The Review Process Roger Williams University performs a holistic review of each applicant, taking into consideration academic preparation along with personal interests and involvement. The University seeks students with a demonstrated capacity for academic achievement, who also possess intellectual curiosity, strength of character and a sense of social responsibility. We welcome applications from prospective first-year students and transfers.
Various academic programs require additional materials in the admission review process: Architecture (portfolio), Creative Writing (portfolio), Dance/Performance Studies (audition), and Visual Arts (portfolio) programs. For a full list of these requirements, please visit us online at: http://you. rwu.edu/requirements.
The University Honors Program Academically talented incoming freshmen may apply to the University Honors Program through the Common Application or online at: honors.rwu.edu. Students interested in Honors are highly encouraged to apply under our EA application deadline to receive full consideration. RD review will be on a space available basis only.
INVESTING IN YOU A Roger Williams University education is designed to be more affordable than you may think. In 2012, Roger Williams launched the Affordable Excellence initiative which guarantees that full-time students will not see an increase in their tuition over the course of their 4 years at RWU. Compare this to the average annual tuition increase of 3-5% at other schools and you will start to see the value of an RWU degree. We are here to help you explore
all your options and make a solid financial plan to earn your degree. We have increased our financial aid investments over the past five years by adding an additional $52 million in institutional grants and scholarships, and we hire over 1,300 students for jobs on and off campus. We are committed to working with you to develop a financial pathway to and through the university. We want to make sure that every family feels comfortable and confident in their higher education decision academically, financially, and socially.
2017-2018 COSTS Full-Time Tuition (all majors except Architecture): $31,152 Architecture Tuition: $35,112 Comprehensive Semester Fees: $2,184 Average Room & Board: $15,234 Merit Scholarships Roger Williams University offers institutionally supported merit scholarships, ranging from $4,000 to full tuition. A COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY Roger Williams, our namesake, created a new colony of free-thinking individuals early in our country’s history that would later become the state of Rhode Island. But for Rhode Islanders to survive, he knew they needed to work together toward a purpose greater than any one individual. Early colonists learned from each other and from the Narragansett Tribe how to speak each other’s languages, and to see the world from each of their unique community perspectives. Today, a college experience must be about more than self and must go beyond the learning of facts and figures. Students must learn to interact with others with confidence and competence. From being a member of a classroom, a team, a club or organization, a residence hall, and your major, all these community experiences invite you to be part of something larger than yourself.
LIFE AT EMBRACING
RWU
COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT
Starting from your first day on campus, RWU exposes you to the importance of connecting with those around you. • RWU’s largest day of service kicks off the new school year with more than 1,500 students, faculty and staff members volunteering at over 80 local non-profit agencies. • There are so many clubs and activities here, they can’t all fit in your first week at RWU! Our Weeks of Welcome program is designed to showcase everything you can be part of across campus. You’ll see there’s plenty to do! • Build your resume while benefitting the local community through our Community Partnerships Center.
Have a club interest that we don’t have? Start one yourself – new clubs pop up all the time, like Relay for Life/ Colleges Against Cancer, which raised over $41,000 for cancer research in its first year.
• Take easy trips to downtown Bristol (small town), Providence (small city), or Boston (big city) with your new classmates to experience the fun, arts, and opportunities all within an hour of campus.
At RWU, we actively seek students who are ready to challenge themselves and try new things. Daymar, a Philadelphia native who was first introduced to both horses and polo at age five through an area nonprofit organization, is a prime example. After an initial riding experience that felt far from natural, Daymar challenged himself to stick with it and hone his skills. After years of determination, Daymar has become one of the top collegiate riders in the country and led the inaugural RWU polo team to a national championship in 2017. BY DOING
LEARNING
Real-world experiences are designed into every RWU major. Project-based learning will be a core component of your education - community projects, internships, student teaching, and academic research with faculty are guaranteed opportunities near campus, in Providence, RI and beyond. Further, with study abroad and intern abroad opportunities on every continent but Antarctica, your options will never be limited by geography!
When learning extends outside the classroom, you will hone practical skills, build relationships and strengthen your experience so you are set up for career success. Our distinctive approach to hands-on education connects students with organizations with whom they work directly for a semester or more to solve real problems and implement real solutions.
