in welcoming high school students and their families to the event. Martinez enjoyed speaking with his former classmates about projects he completed as an SSC student, and how additional production opportunities provided outside of class have helped him gain real world experience. He also addressed the audience during the award presentation. “I wrote a speech for the ceremony because I wanted to speak about what SSC provides in the communications field,” said Martinez. “I thought the competition this year was great. The students submitted great films, and I was very happy to be part of the event.” Seven high schools submitted entries into the competition: Bremen, Eisenhower, Hillcrest, Oak Forest, Richards, Shepard and Thornwood. Students entered work in eight different categories: Commercial/Promo, PSA, Short Subject, Music Video, Live Multi-Camera Program, Creative Editing, News Story or Feature and News Program. The 53 entries were judged on aesthetic quality, technical quality, program design and overall effectiveness. In addition to the student awards, high schools competed for the Regional Award of Distinction. Eisenhower High School won this year’s award having the highest average score per entry. Thirteen of Eisenhower’s twenty submissions placed in the competition this year. The student awards for each category are as follows: Commercial/Promo: First Place, “Don’t Get Slaps, Get Tide

Courage of Your Convictions DR. PRESTON R. WINFREY, PIONEER MISSIONARY BAPTIST CHURCH Do you have Courage of Your Convictions? When speaking of courage I am referring to doing something that can be on the challenging side. Sometimes that thing can be risky, unpopular and sometimes dangerous. And when I speak of convictions, those are things such as thoughts and actions you believe deep in your heart you must do. Both courage and convictions must unite in order to get to the finished product, object or goal. Courage and convictions are much like “faith and works,” they go together, and if one is missing, the other one is dead! Too often, this team (courage and convictions) is missing and we suffer with failure and disappointment. For example; Conviction Courage You really want to support someone You fear what others might say Straighten up your act and live better Fear you will fail again To apologize for a wrong you committed To admit that you were wrong Become more responsible in life Don’t want to pay the price You love someone You refuse to tell them Should be saved and in church Just can’t leave that life of sin Again, courage and conviction must come together if you are going to succeed in life. I want to encourage you to make a bold move and do it today! Bring your courage and convictions into the same room and tie them together. It will feel strange because you have been operating differently for whatever reason. 1. Get rid of the excuses you have been using for not carrying out the things you have been convicted of for so long. 2. Face your obstacles squarely 3. Know that you don’t owe others an explanation for doing what you know you should do 4. Say good-by to those who would want you to remain conflicted, confused and torn Do you have courage of your convictions? If not, you can take your example from the following Bible characters who exercised courage of their convictions: 1. Joshua said, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. 2. Queen Esther said, “If I perish, let me perish, I’m going to see the king.” 3. The Prophet Elijah asked, “How long will you straddle the fence about God?” 4. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life.” And He died to prove it.

Fair Haven’s “Think First, Stay Safe” Seeks to Prevent Assault As the school year comes to an end, Fair Haven’s lead educator, Shana Robertson reflects on the lessons she has taught Northwest Indiana’s youth. Robertson is the voice of “Think First, Stay Safe,” an educational program aimed at teaching students about warning signs of sexual assault. “We have reached 4,000 students this year alone,” said Robertson. “That is twice the amount of last year and we aren’t even halfway through this calendar year.” Robertson emphasizes it was the struggle of trial-and-error with previous programs that led to the current program’s success. In 2007, after earning degrees behavioral science and child psychology, she began her path as an educator as part of Fair Haven’s child education team. “At the time, the program was very outdated and followed the traditional format of speaking to a class for forty five

minutes,” said Robertson. Although the information was important, Robertson believes that the message was not sticking with students. “We felt students weren’t retaining the information our team was telling them,” said Robertson. “We could all tell it was just another presentation they were being forced to sit through.” While searching for new programs three years ago, Robertson came up with the idea of a week-long retreat where students can learn in a more interactive manner. Around this time, Fair Haven also hired a new educator, Raquel Mentor, who saw the potential in this plan and gravitated toward it immediately. “This seemed like a fresher way of educating children on a subject that is sometimes hard to talk about,” said Mentor. As “Think First, Stay Safe” continues to grow, other areas in Indiana have started to take notice of the program’s effectiveness. Fair Haven’s educators have been invited to

Indianapolis, Fort Wayne, Bloomington and South Bend to spread their message. “For now, we hope to reach childcare centers to spread the message in the summer,” said Mentor. “We hope to travel in the future. I would love to teach children in Nicaragua.” The program is currently being offered to schools free of charge and plans on staying that way. Robertson believes no one should have to pay to learn how to protect themselves. Schools in northwest Indiana have started to notice the effectiveness of the program and weekly slots are filling up faster than ever. Sale of Delinquent Cook County Property Taxes Starts May 4 Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas urged about 39,500 property owners to pay their delinquent bills immediately to prevent their unpaid taxes from being offered at the Annual Tax Sale that starts Friday, May 4, 2018. About 6,600 owners are most vulnerable to the Tax Sale in part because the U.S. Postal Service has returned their bills and subsequent notices. Owners can use cookcountytreasurer.com to see if their taxes are delinquent for Tax Year 2016 (originally due in 2017). To ensure that payments are recorded before the Tax Sale begins, owners can choose from these options: • Pay the taxes at cookcountytreasurer.com by 11:59pm on April 30, 2018 Home Repair & Improvements. Carpentry, painting, drywall repairs, storm doors, Int. doors, lights, fans, locks, concrete repair, tree trimming, power washing. 20 yrs. experience.

• Pay the taxes at the Treasurer’s Office, 118 N. Clark St., Room 112, Chicago, Illinois, until the day before the sale A complete list of properties with delinquent taxes to be offered at the Tax Sale is updated weekly and published at cookcountytreasurer.com. It can be downloaded in PDF and spreadsheet formats. If your home is on the Tax Sale list, but a lender is supposed to pay the taxes, contact your lender immediately to request proof of payment. Submit that proof to the Treasurer’s Office. If the taxes on your home have already been sold, you can avoid a loss of your property by paying the taxes, interest, and fees to the Cook County Clerk.

The Flooding Saga Continues at E. 156th St in Dolton

7

From the end of the year 2016 until today, the insurance policy for flood insurance with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) states “Finished basement/Enclosure” have been written and produced by American Family Insurance Company, the Neal Massucci Agency, every year with the exact same wording. From the flood in February 28, 2017 until now, four (4) inspectors have come to inspect damages from 6” to 8” of flood waters in the finished recreation room/bar area that have flood waters coming through five (5) above grade windows, and the rear entry door. From December 2017 until January 2018, fourteen (14) days below freezing followed by two (2) days of thawing and additional rains. One December 13, 2017 after much contact with the NFIP the third inspector stated this damage of between $26,000 to $33,000 of estimates should have been covered by the way the policy reads. The first two inspectors from NFIP saw the same photos and videos and they also tried to get us compensation. Their hands were tied due to it being an old claim and the NFIP was running out of money with the large amount of floods occurring nationwide. American Family Insurance inspector came to our house on December 13, 2017 and was here 10-15 minutes and stated it was only groundwater. They sent us a letter on March 23, 2018 stating it was groundwater and why the homeowner’s policy doesn’t cover it. American Family Insurance and the NFIP both know this area and the 17 acres behind our house is a designated flood area. In February 2018 after heavy snowfall and drizzle our streets again began to flood. On February 21, SKY5 Helicopter shows flooding in Dolton, IL and surrounding suburbs. The Little Calumet river overflowed it banks from I-94 at Rt 6, East to Greenwood Ave, North to 154th St. Flooding runs east to Paxton Ave. Two families had to be evacuated by boat in South Holland by the fire departments of South Holland and Dolton. My neighbor, Dolton Police Officer Michael Moore helped out over several days and Finished basement damage from flooding provided 12 sandbags and a shop-vac. Those tools were useless against the deluge of water. The rain water rose to cover the floor to a depth of 6-8” rain. One inch of rain creates approximately 2,000 gallons of water. I’m grateful to Chris Oster, owner of Torrance Liquors who provided skids and pallets to elevate furniture and assist us in the flood. This recent weather drove water through the above grade windows and entry door. During normal rainfall we do not have a problem – only when the excessive rain causes flooding that inundated our basement, rec room and bar area. Both insurance companies keep sending me a renewal police with the exact same wording of ‘finished basement/enclose.’ The moral of the story is when buying flood insurance to protect your home, be very wary and careful when buying from the National Flood Insurance Program.

Financial Advice Column

Time for Financial “Spring Cleaning” BOB KRYGSHELD The days are longer and the temperatures are warmer—so it must FINALLY be spring. For many of us, that means it’s time for some spring cleaning. This year, consider extending the “spring cleaning” concept to your financial environment, too. Here are some suggestions: • “De-clutter” your portfolio. As you go through your home during your spring cleaning rounds, you may notice that you have some things you can no longer use. You can create some valuable space by getting rid of these items. And the same principle can apply to your investment portfolio, because over the years you may well have acquired duplicate investments that aren’t really helping you move toward your goals. You may also own some investments, which, while initially fitting in to your overall strategy, no longer do so. You could be better off by selling your “redundant” investments and using the proceeds to purchase new ones that will provide more value. • Get organized. During your spring cleaning, one of your key goals may be to get organized. Proper organization is also important to investors— and it goes beyond having your brokerage and 401(k) statements in nice neat piles. For example, you may have established IRAs with different financial services companies. By moving them to one provider, you may save some fees and reduce your paperwork, but, more important, you may find that such a move actually helps you better manage

your investments. You’ll know exactly where your money is going, and it could be easier to follow a single investment strategy. Also, with all your IRAs in one place, it will be much easier for you to manage the required minimum distributions you must start taking when you turn 70-1/2. (These distributions are not required for Roth IRAs.) • Protect your family’s financial future. When cleaning up this spring, you may notice areas of concern around protecting your home— your fence is damaged or part of your chimney is crumbling. Your financial independence—and that of your family—also needs protection. Is your life insurance sufficient to pay for your mortgage, college for your kids and perhaps some retirement funds for your spouse? Do you have disability insurance that can provide you with some income if you become ill or injured and can’t work for a while? Have you considered the high costs of long-term care, such as an extended nursing home stay? A financial professional can help you determine if your insurance coverage is adequate for all these needs. Consider putting these spring cleaning suggestions to work. They may help you keep your financial house in good shape for all the seasons yet to arrive.

Make a Mistake on Your Tax Return? File an Amended Return The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) is encouraging taxpayers who discover mistakes or omissions on their tax return to speak up. Taxpayers have the option to file an amended return to address a change in filing status, corrected income amount or mistakes made with deductions or credits claimed. Taxpayers generally don’t need to file an amended return to correct math errors on their original return as DOR and the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) automatically correct these items. An amended return also doesn’t need to be filed if certain tax forms were not attached, such as a W-2 or a schedule. DOR and the IRS will contact the customer if this information is needed.

Amended returns can be filed within three years of the due date of the original return or the date the tax was paid. Both state and federal forms need to be filed including: • First, file Federal Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return for Filing an Amended (Corrected) Tax Return, with the IRS. This form can be found at www.irs.gov/ forms-pubs/about-form-1040x. • Second, file Form IT-40X with DOR. This form can be found at www.in.gov/dor/5695. htm. If an original state tax return has not been filed but an amended federal return has been filed, state form IT-40 or IT-40 PNR should be filed and is available at www.in.gov/

To ensure an amended return is complete DOR recommends: • Attaching other forms with changes—any other forms or schedules should be included with the IT-40X or 1040X form. • Waiting for your return from tax year 2017 before filing—Individuals who are due refunds from the original tax return filed for 2017 should wait to file an amended return to claim any additional refunds. • Paying additional tax as soon as possible –If the amended return shows more tax Gym equipment. Fundraiser Helps the Future Enhancement of Education The Highland Education Foundation hosted its second annual Trivia Night on Saturday, April 21 at The Room, located at 8353 Indianapolis Boulevard in Highland. The event raised about $8,500 that will go toward future grants that enable to teachers to be innovative in the classroom. There were about 200 participants after moving to a larger venue. This is the second time in as many years that HEF has completely maxed out its location for Trivia Night. “What we saw last year with our funding round is our teachers have wonderful and innovative ideas to enrich our children’s education, said Edward Stone, treasurer of HEF. “I am proud to be a part of HEF to help these ideas become reality and can’t wait to see what they bring us next fall. As soon as people started walking in, laughter filled the air. Trivia Night allowed adults to be in a relaxing environment while enjoying competitive fun. “I think for the amount of mingling we saw prior to trivia, it

The Tauber Law Firm and Doug Lewis’ Office of Edward Jones which were themed “Law & Order and “Money respectively. “An event like this brings out a wide array of fellow neighbors, said Stone. “It gives us an opportunity to be social with some of our teachers, administrators and board members while we work for bigger things to come. Along with free beer, wine and food there were also prizes being raffled that were donated by the Chicago Cubs, Albanese Candy, Vanis Spa, Whole Foods, Munster Donuts and many more. The Highland Education Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to funding innovative educational grants to teachers in the School Town of Highland in order to provide opportunities that enhance student learning and achievement. truly gave friends and neighbors an opportunity to catch up and spur on some rivalry prior to things getting underway, said Stone. “The Room simply provided a wonderful space to relax and have fun. The event not only focused on supporting education, but also to raise awareness about the foundation within the community and ensure the participants had a great time. “I hope the presence of an education foundation lets our teachers know our greater community is behind them 100 percent, said Jennifer Gluth, secretary of HEF. “And although that may not impact their salaries, I think having the option to write a grant to the foundation to incorporate an innovation in their teaching is a very tangible way we can show our support. The Trivia Night consisted of 7 rounds covering a variety of topics, from “Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader to relatives of celebrities. RICHARD ZEKVELD Seven rescue boats plied the waters of Lake Volta in the direction of freedom. Elsewhere on the lake, Anita Budu anxiously scanned the horizon for them as the approaching dawn removed the cover of darkness. What if fishermen noticed them? Anita radioed again. Silence. Then a voice broke through. “Children’s boat: please prepare to receive 10 children.” In time, seven rescue teams delivered 30 children and one young adult to Anita’s boat. A ten-year old boy broke into song. I’ve got joy, joy down in my heart. The other children chimed in: Look what the Lord has done for me. Jesus has come to set me free. I’ve got joy, joy down in my heart.* Welcome to today’s Underground Railroad. Ghana’s Lake Volta is a place of breathtaking beauty. And incredible suffering. Thousands of children work on fishing boats. More than half are slaves, victims of human trafficking, torn from loved ones, beaten and starved to keep them in line.

Their owners subject them to grinding toil. Anita Budu of International Justice Mission and many others work tirelessly to free these little ones, provide aftercare and, where possible, restore them to their families. Around the globe, International Justice Mission (IJM) “protects the poor from violence” and “partners with local authorities to rescue victims, bring criminals to justice, restore survivors and strengthen justice systems” (ijm.org). Such work reflects the heart of Jesus. “For he delivers the needy when he calls, the poor and him who has no helper. He has pity on the weak and needy, and saves the lives of the needy. From oppression and violence he redeems their life, and precious is their blood in his sight” (Psalm 72:12-14, ESV). We, too, can join this work of Jesus. Check out ijm.org. Although their class is only in its second year, Illiana robotics students took their knowledge to South Suburban College’s annual robotics competition and captured the firstplace trophy, beating 19 other teams. Seniors Rylee Benes and Max Men pose with their secondplace-winning robot. (Photo provided by Rylee Benes) Class members achieved runner-up status in the Sumo Survivor, Pathfinder, and Catapult events, and won the Autonomous Racer event. “I thought we’d do okay going into it,” said Rudenga, “but coming out of it, I thought we did great.” “We represented Illiana very well—and this is only our second year of robotics,” said senior Austin Ohm. Students started building their robots, specifically to each assigned event, a month prior, and they constantly adjusted them in hopes of perfect performance. “[Revision is] part of design,” said Rudenga. Real Estate Questions & Answers CATHY & JIM HIGGINS Question: We just accepted an offer on our home where the buyer is getting FHA financing. Our agent said it’s no big deal, but we have heard horror stories. What can we expect? Answer: FHA’s biggest repair concerns are health and safety issues, protecting the security of the property, and structural soundness of the property. Here are most of the items that will require repair BEFORE you can close an FHA loan: Peeling paint in homes built before 1978. Unpainted downspouts and broken rain gutters. Ground fault interrupters in the proper locations. Rotting outbuilding in need of demolition. Exterior doors that do not properly close and open. Exposed wiring and uncovered junction boxes. Major plumbing issues and leaks. Inoperable HVAC systems. Leaky or defective roofs. Roofs with a life expectancy of less than 3 years. Active and visible pest infestation. Rotting wood such as window sills, eaves, and support columns on a porch. Missing appliances that usually are sold with a home such as a stove. Bedrooms without Assorted lamp shades, $5$10 ea; folding walker with wheels $20; bath chair $20; colonial braided rugs, different sizes, $10-$50 ea. 708-481-6907 2 pc solid maple Heywood Wakefield china cabinet 75”H x 54”W; bed spreads & comforters, blankets, quilts from twin-king sz, $15-$25 ea. 708-481-6907 Duvet covers asst. sizes $3$5 ea; Surefit sofa covers $20; loveseat covers $15; large chair covers $8. 708481-6907 Bed sheets twin size $2 ea sheet, full size $3 ea; queen size $4 ea; king size $5; set of 4 chair cushions $10. 708481-6907 Medical scrubs, uniforms, $2 ea pc; vintage Madame Alexander doll Degas Girl #1575, in original box, wrist tag & stand $45; barbie dolls $5. 708-481-6907 3 pc Fiesta canister set $30 obo; asst. colors Fiesta dinnerware $3-$5 ea; early Pyrex dishes, pastel colors, $3 ea pc; Pyrex bowls & bakeware $3-$5 ea. 708-4816907 Johnsons Bros white English Ironside set of dishes (64 pcs) $40 obo; Villeroy & Boch hotel plates, white, 4 charger plates $3 ea; 9 dinner plates $2 ea. 708-4816907

minimize-sized windows or bedroom windows with bars that do not release. Foundation or structural defects. Wet basements. Evidence of standing water in the crawl space. Ripped screens. No pressure relief valve on water heater. Leaning / broken fence. If you have maintained your home, you should have no problem with an FHA inspection. The FHA inspection is not as detailed as the buyer’s home inspection. The difference is these FHA items must be repaired or replaced before the home can close and the buyers home inspection results are negotiable. Stop stressing & Good luck with your sale! REX’s ANTIQUES

MIKE BUDER In 1984 Tina Turner released a number-one top single titled “What’s Love Got To Do With It.” I think Tina should release a remake of her classic hit. The new version can be dedicated to stubborn sellers who refuse to lead the market with a competitive price. The new song would be entitled “What’s Price Got To Do With It?” Everything, Tina would reply in her timely tune. The other day I was evaluating a home for a seller that had expired with another real estate broker after 12 months on the market. I asked the seller why they felt their home remained unsold. The reply caused me to momentarily close my eyelids and roll my eyes. The seller said, “It can’t be the price.” Really! Their small home is neat and tidy but sits on a major arterial street. The selling solution is simple. Move the property away from the busy street or periodically lower the price. Selling a house does not have to take longer than the gestation period for a baby. It should not take several agents, several tours, multiple open houses, dozens of helium balloons tied to signs, baked bread aromas,

Saint Joseph statues, daily novenas, pilgrimages to sacred shrines or incense and peppermints. For Tina’s sake, lower the price. A sage once said, “The only constant is change.” The world is changing. People are changing. The real estate market is changing. The stock market changes. Styles change. Why can’t some sellers realize prices need to change to attract more buyers and better offers? Personally, I feel Saint Joseph has better things to do than help sellers locate buyers for properties that are overpriced. From my 35 years of selling homes in the South Suburbs of Chicago, my words of wisdom for a seller going into the 2018 real estate market are “A house properly priced is half-sold.” If you are looking to buy or sell real estate call Mike Buder at RE/ MAX 2000 (708) 418-4444, E-mail: mikebuder@ remax.net, Website: w w w. Texting While Walking Earns $85 Fine ARLO KALLEMEYN I know from experience that more and more drivers are texting while driving. You can just tell. They think that driving 5 miles below the speed limit will give them the extra time to read or write a text—and no one will ever know. What they hope no one else notices is that they drift out of their lane, slam on their brakes at the last minute, and sit at the stop light long after it has turned green. A New Jersey town is tired of people texting while driving—and while walking. Fort Lee, New Jersey has had 3 fatalities that were caused by people texting while crossing the street. I’m guessing that they forgot their parent’s advice to look both ways. Fort Lee, N.J. police said they will begin issuing $85 tickets to pedestrians who are caught texting while walking. Perhaps the pedestrians in New Jersey don’t realize all the features of their fancy texting machines. The new features of electronic gadgets are hard to keep up with after all. Maybe they don’t know that their texting machine has a great feature, they can press a single button or tap the screen once, hold it up to their ear, and actually talk to the person on the other end. That way they can keep both eyes on the sidewalk in front of them. Anyway, I hope it helps keep people safer in New Jersey—I’m just not sure you can cure stupid with an $85 ticket. Arlo Kallemeyn Shopper Publisher and big fan of texting while stationary.

Inland Trout Season Opened April 28 As of Saturday, April 28, the DNR has stocked 23,275 rainbow trout in 16 streams in 12 counties. To find a stocked stream near you, see the 2018 Trout Stocking Plan at wildlife.IN.gov/5457.htm. One stream that is normally stocked, Fawn River, will not be stocked this year due to a dam- removal project at Fawn River State Fish Hatchery. The stocked trout come from Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station, near Howe, in LaGrange County, and average roughly 11 inches in length. Anglers can catch trout on natural live bait such as worms and bee moths. Corn and small marshmallows are also popular. Artificial lures such as spinners and flies also entice trout. The bag limit for trout in inland waters, other than Lake Michigan and its tributaries, is five fish per day with a minimum size of 7 inches. No more than one of these can be a brown trout. Anglers ages 18 years and older need both an Indiana fishing license and a trout/salmon stamp to fish for trout.

MAY 1 - MAY DAY, LAW DAY MAYOR MICHELLE HOSTS CHAMBER APRIL MEETING: Chamber members, friends, department heads and staffers crowded into the upper rooms of Calumet City Hall Wednesday April 25, 2018 to hear Calumet City Mayor Michelle Markiewicz Qualkinbush present on the state of the city. A longtime backer of the Calumet City Chamber, the Mayor catered the event using the services of Chef Julie of American Legion Post 330 in Calumet City. Thanks to the watchful eyes of the city treasurer and finance director, the dayto-day expenses are well under control, the mayor noted. Public safety is also well cared for with the number of police and fire department personnel, and the expected delivery this year of 2 new fire engines to replace the existing 15-year old models in use now. Mayor Michelle noted with pride that when she became mayor in 2003, there were 68 active liquor licenses. Today, there are 40. “We did not need that many taverns in Calumet City,” she added. Tick ing off some more statistics, the mayor said there are currently 400 vacant buildings in the city and the public works department makes sure that the homes are secured and the grass cut. Taxes are an issue with only a fraction of property owners paying their fair share, leaving the rest to everyone else to pick up. “We worry about that,” she noted. On a more positive subject, Calumet City is centrally located with some 300,000 residents in surrounding suburbs. Transportation via the expressways is a real positive for the suburb with access to 294, 394, Bishop Ford, Dan Ryan, and 80/94 which will take us to just about anywhere we want to go. Encouraging businesses to locate in Calumet City is enhanced with the creation of new TIF districts along Sibley Boulevard and River Oaks Drive. And, a new lighting project will mean new led lights t hroughout t he cit y. In public service for most of her adult life, Mayor Michel le bea ms when she spea ks of ‘her town’ and her desire to make it the best Calumet City it can possibly be. The Calumet City Chamber is the chief cheerleader echoing that sentiment! ITALIAN AMERICAN WOMEN’S CLUB HOST ‘STRUTTING AND SIPPING’ AT VILLA CESARE: Some 500 fashionistas attended the Schererville venue Sunday A pr i l 29, 2018 for a n a f ter noon of shopping, lunch and fashions courtesy of Eco Chic in Dyer IN, Kennan Liquors, WW, and Mary Jane DiMichele. Some of the proceeds from the event provided a scholarship for Steven Gonzales to Easton University in the fall. Pictured are Cindi Rucinski in a charming Fascinator hat with co-partner of Eco Chic, Diane Gross; along with fashion fans, JMK, Bernice Scallon, Lori Munda of Calumet City, and Pat Stroube of Steger. Women came from all over NW Indiana and the south suburbs of Chicago to find the latest in fashion trends. Cindi Rucinski was the fashion commentator for the day, and both Diane Gross and Trish Caruso offered to do a fashion show for any who wanted to make it a part of their fundraiser. Hammer Toes

Hammer toes are actually a curling of the toes. Sometimes these are flexible and can be straightened with manipulation, or fixed which means they are always curled with arthritic changes that don’t allow straightening. Many times corns are found on the tops of these toes. Surgery can be performed to straighten these toes or occasional trimming of the corns can alleviate some of the pain. If you have any questions concerning hammer toes or any other problems, please stop by or call my office during office hours.
