Summertime has become an increasingly popular season for weddings, and the Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR) wants to help Hoosier newlyweds as they embark on wedded bliss to avoid the headache of tax issues. From name changes to filing status, DOR has several tips for 2018 newlyweds to be ready for next tax season and to ensure refunds are not delayed: 1.) Name changes: If a customer changes their name as a result of marriage, the first step is to report this change to the Social Security Administration (SSA). Since tax returns are filed under an individual’s Social Security number (SSN), it is important to complete the name change process before filing a tax return. The name on the tax return must match the SSN to ensure any potential refund goes to the correct person. More information can be found online at www.SSA.gov. 2.) Change withholding status: Newly married individuals may need to update their federal W-4 and state WH-4 forms to reflect additional exemptions or change their higher standard deduction. By claiming an additional allowance or changing the withholding status to married, fewer taxes may be withheld from their pay. 3.) Update address: If marriage results in a change of address, be sure to update the address on file with DOR. DOR

offers several methods for customers to update their address, including in-person, by fax or mail. By updating the address, customers can ensure they will receive important information from DOR on time, which may include a refund check. Details can be found on DOR’s website at www.in.gov/dor/4706.htm. 4.) Evaluate tax filing status: Once an individual is married, the filing status on their tax return must be either: married filing jointly or married filing separately. Often, the option married filing jointly provides the most beneficial tax outcome for most couples, due to the available credits and deductions. However, all couples should explore both options to determine what works best. Changing filing status may also change an individual’s tax bracket, so the income might be taxed at a different rate. If a married couple chooses to file a joint return, their income is now combined which may result in one or both individuals being in a higher tax bracket. Remember, even if the wedding date is December 30, 2018, a couple is still considered married for the 2018 tax year. Customers with any questions or concerns about changes in filing due to married status should call DOR’s Customer Service Department at 317-232-2240, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., EST.

Lynette D. Stokes, Ed.d., Named SSC President The South Suburban College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Lynette D. Stokes, Ed.D., the incoming President of South Suburban College. Dr. Stokes will be the first woman President in SSC’s history. Stokes, currently serving as Vice President of Academic Services at SSC, will officially assume leadership of the college when the current President, Donald Manning, retires on October 1, 2018. “The entire Board of Trustees and I believe that Lynette is exactly the kind of leader our college requires as we move forward,” Chairman Frank Zuccarelli said. “She is experienced, energetic and collaborative and places a high value on partnering with the community.” Asked to describe her purpose in life, Dr. Stokes offered a quote that has always served as an inspiration and guiding light throughout her life: ‘the purpose of life is not to be happy, but to be useful, honorable, compassionate and to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well.’ “That exemplifies who Lynette Stokes is, Zuccarelli continued. “She has been a youth advocate in the child welfare system – passionately involved with Ada S. McKinley Foster Care Services, an elementary school teacher and active in equal rights organizations.” “Her commitment to lifelong learning led her to return to school herself – earning both Master of Arts and Doctoral Degrees from Roosevelt University in Public Administration and Educational Leadership. Dr. Stokes has dedicated her life and career to structuring and sustaining strong educational institutions

and making a real difference in people’s lives. Every Trustee on the Board and I are enthusiastic about working closely with Lynette to advance our mission and serve our community,” Zuccarelli concluded. In addition to her vast experience and accomplishments in higher education and child welfare, Dr. Stokes was the recipient of Roosevelt University’s ‘Most Outstanding Dissertation of the Year Award” in 2005, the “Kathy Osterman Award for Outstanding Public Service Supervision” and the 2014 Chicago Defender’s “Women of Excellence Award.” Dr. Stokes resides in South Holland with her family. Stokes will succeed President Donald Manning, who led the college for the past six years and who announced his retirement last March. Manning assumed leadership of the college in 2012 – overseeing increased academic programming options and the transformational revitalization of the college’s Oak Forest Campus. “I am confident that in Lynette Stokes, the Board of Trustees has chosen a person with the right approach to educational leadership and management and who will lead a renewed commitment to our mission,” Manning said. “Lynette will advance a bright future for this important and critical institution serving the needs of the South suburbs in so many ways.” Chairman Zuccarelli thanked President Manning for his thirty-one years of exemplary service. “Don has been an indispensable part of our college family and I believe I can speak for all the Trustees and everyone at SSC in saying that we will miss Don’s energy, expertise and dedication. The entire Board and I want to extend our best wishes to Don, as he and his wife Jill move on to this new chapter in their lives. Don, thank you so much for your work, your leadership and friendship.”

TAILOR USHER

Before modern farm machinery, mustard was a crop that was harvested by scythe when it reached about 6 feet tall. In those days, to “cut the mustard” meant to succeed at an endeavor. Conversely, a blunt scythe—or a weak farmhand—couldn’t cut the mustard; over the last 125 years, the saying “doesn’t cut the mustard” has come to refer to something that doesn’t meet expectations.

Athlete’s Feet

Athlete’s feet is caused by a fungus which is commonly found associated with the feet. It is characterized by a burning or itching of the sole of the foot or between two toes. Many times the skin appears very moist but can also appear dry with peeling skin. It usually begins as small brown blisters with clear yellowish liquid inside. These usually turn darker when peeled to reveal red, sometimes raw skin. Prescription medications are many times needed to control the disease. If you have any questions concerning athlete’s feet or any other foot problems, please stop by or call my office during office hours.

Theatre at the Center in Munster Announces 2019 Season Irving Berlin’s White Christmas – The Musical, the iconic holiday favorite, Million Dollar Quartet, hailing Elvis, Johnny Cash and other recording icons, and The Pajama Game, the Tony Award classic musical, are among the 2019 Season show favorites announced by Linda Fortunato, artistic director at Theatre at the Center (TATC), the only professional theater company in Northwest Indiana. “I am delighted to share Theatre at the Center’s 2019 lineup,” said Fortunato, who will direct and choreograph White Christmas, as well as two other shows for next year. “Our season is bookended with two shows that I’ve wanted to bring to our audience for several years—Million Dollar Quartet and White Christmas. The balance of the season has three funny and charming productions in three very different styles—a 1930s style tap dance musical, a touching family story, and a classic American musical. It promises to be an exciting season full of laughter, dance, memorable characters and great music.” Theatre at the Center launches the season with Million Dollar Quartet (February 14-March 24, 2019) written by Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux. Inspired by a real event from December 4, 1956, the show chronicles when Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what became one of the greatest jam sessions ever. This thrilling musical invites audiences into the recording studio for the true story of one unforgettable night. These four legends bring down the house with hits including “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Great Balls of Fire” and “Walk the Line.” Million Dollar Quartet will be directed by Daryl Brooks. Dames at Sea (May 2 – June 2, 2019) follows Broadway wannabe Ruby as she arrives in New York City with just a pair

of tap shoes in her suitcase and a prayer in her heart. She falls in love with a sailor who also happens to be an aspiring songwriter. He helps Ruby land a job in the chorus, and she gets her chance in the spotlight when the star becomes ill. It’s a playful romp filled with song, dance and lots of laughs. Dames at Sea will be directed and choreographed by Linda Fortunato. Over the Tavern (July 11 – August 11, 2019) is a hilarious and touching slice of Americana. Heaven help 12-year-old Rudy after he tells his ruler-wielding teacher Sister Clarissa his plans to shop around for a more fun religion. The Pazinski family lives in a tiny apartment above the neighborhood bar they own. They face the real and often comical struggles of life in this funny and touching semi-autobiographical play by Tom Dudzick. The Pajama Game (September 12 – October 13, 2019), with music and lyrics by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross and book by George Abbott and Richard Bissell, is the Tony Award winner for Best Musical that inspired the film starring Doris Day. There’s trouble at the Sleep-Tite pajama factory when workers demand a raise of 7 ½ cents. Both sides are standing strong. But when the head of the union grievance committee meets her new supervisor, love changes the game. This musical comedy romance includes favorites such as “Steam Heat,” “Hernando’s Hideaway” and “Hey, There.” Irving Berlin’s White Christmas – The Musical (November 14 – December 22, 2019), with music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and book by David Ives and Paul Blake is Linda Fortunato’s holiday highlight to conclude the 2019 season. Audiences will celebrate the holidays with this stage adaptation of the film which starred Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. Song and dance duo Bob and Phil follow

Junior Achievement: Building Young Entrepreneurs for a Century Junior Achievement will be 100 years old in 2019! Also known as JA or JA Worldwide, Junior Achievement is a nonprofit youth organization founded in 1919 by Horace A. Moses, Theodore Vail, and Winthrop M. Crane to connect local businesses with students to deliver experiential learning programs on the topics of financial literacy, work readiness, and entrepreneurship. Parents and grandparents might remember Junior Achievement as an entrepreneurship program from their high school days. JA has grown and expanded to offer programs designed for kindergarten, middle school, and even college students. According to JA’s website, programs “help prepare young people for the real world by showing them how to generate wealth and effectively manage it, how to create jobs which make their communities more robust, and how to apply entrepreneurial thinking to the workplace.” There are no fees to schools, teachers, or students for JA’s programs; funding for JA comes from individuals, corporations, and foundations— though schools are welcome to donate to Junior Achievement. According to the Ruth Lilly Special Collections & Archives, which has an extensive collection of JA records from 19162002, JA continues to be one of the most influential business education organizations worldwide. The success of Junior Achievement has always been bringing business into the classroom to enable students to understand how they can become business owners themselves. By using volunteers from the world of business as teachers, JA assures that students will get experienced, real-world answers to GUTTER CLEANING: S U PE R F LOW Gu t t e r cleaning. Free estimates. their questions. And Junior Achievement doesn’t just throw business owners into the classroom and hope for the best— instructors are equipped with a curriculum, as well as training and support necessary to bolster the chances for student success. Samantha Kent, a JA volunteer from Allstate Insurance Company, tells of her experience as a JA volunteer teacher: “I volunteered in Ms. Pierce’s 4th grade class as part of Allstate’s ‘JA in a Day’ at Lewis School of Excellence in Chicago. I felt like I was watching the students grow and change right before my eyes. “My day ended with some incredible questions from a 4th grader named Jazzi. After asking the students to share with me what they had learned or what they enjoyed most about the day, she raised her hand and asked me questions that no adult has ever asked me! She asked, ‘When you were preparing to find a job, how did you decide? How did you pick a company like Allstate? What kind of problems do you solve—like, in your job, when you’re at work, what problems do you work on every day?’ “I was dumbfounded by the intelligence behind these questions. They were beyond anything an adult or peer has ever asked me—and let me remind you, Jazzi is 10. “I hope Allstate and Lewis Elementary partner up again—I cannot wait to return.” Nadia, a 2015 Junior Achievement alumna, shared her experience. “Being a first-generation student and residing on the South Side of Chicago, I initially did not have a clear vision

for my future, and I wasn’t always given the necessary tools needed to achieve that vision. After having been in JA, I gained the knowledge and assistance needed to create and pursue my vision. I truly believe that without JA, attending college would have only been a dream instead of a reality for me.” Today’s Junior Achievement programs correlate to various national, state, and district educational standards. Impact is measured to ensure students acquire significant understanding of economics and business concepts. JA’s website reports these results: • 93% of students who participated in JA attained at least a High School diploma. • JA students are 30% more likely to have a Bachelor’s Degree and 67% more likely to have an Advanced Degree. • 95% of JA alumni feel confident in job interviews, compared to only 76% of non-JA students. • 76% of JA alumni say they have the skills to start their own businesses, as opposed to 41% of non-JA respondents. • 88% of JA alumni say that they are satisfied with their careers. • 90% of JA alumni report being confident in managing their finances. Junior Achievement programs are available at many public and private schools and daycares in the area. A complete list can be found at https://www.juniorachievement.org/web/jachicago/schools-served or contact your local schools to ask if they offer JA programs. Happy birthday, Junior Achievement!

Veterans’ Charities that Mislead: Beware of Sound-Alike Outfits that Siphon Money Away from Worthy Causes On July 19, BBB Wise Giving Alliance (Give.org), the charitymonitoring organization affiliated with the Better Business Bureau, joined with the Federal Trade Commission, state Attorneys General, and state charity regulators to help the donating public avoid misleading charity appeals and find trustworthy veterans’ organizations to support. The event was held at the FTC’s headquarters in Washington, DC to announce the latest enforcement actions against veterans’ charities. “Americans have a strong interest in supporting charitable organizations helping veterans or active duty service members,” said H. Art Taylor, president and CEO, BBB Wise Giving Alliance, “which is why it is particularly disheartening that we hear about recent government actions that identified misleading appeals from charities that claimed to help our service members. As with any charity appeal, we urge donors to exercise caution and check out organizations before making a giving decision.” As potential donors respond to appeals from such organizations, the BBB Wise Giving Alliance offers the following advisory tips: Mistaken Identity: Watch out for name confusion. Many veterans’ charities include virtually the same words in different order or slightly different form. Check Outside Sources Before Giving: Visit Give.org to check out a charity’s trustworthiness by verifying that it meets the 20 BBB Standards for Charity Accountability. These standards address more than just finances; they also cover charity governance, results reporting, appeal accuracy, and donor privacy. Also, check with your state government’s charity registration agency, usually a division of either the attorney general’s office or secretary of state’s office. Avoid On-the-Spot Donation Decisions: Be wary of excessive pressure in fundraising. Don’t be pressured to make an immediate on-the-spot donation. Find Out What They Do: Don’t assume what the veterans’ July 27-29, 8-4.  17826 Ridgewood Ave., LANSING, IL.  Baby girl clothes, strollers, toddler/beds, furniture, computers, store/displays, baby swings, adult/clothes, toys, stove, file cabinets, doors.

organization does based on their name alone. Review the appeal carefully and see if it matches program and financial information appearing on the organization’s website. Recognize Telemarketing Cautions: Telemarketing can be a costly method of fundraising unless carefully managed. If interested in a call on behalf of a veterans’ charity, always check out the organization online before donating. Be Wary of Unusual Donation Transaction Options: Watch out if a charity solicitor asks for donors to send contributions using an unusual transaction method such as wire transfer, gift cards, or pre-paid debit cards. This could be a ruse to enable questionable solicitors to get funds quickly. Learn How Donated Items Will Be Used. If a veterans’ charity is soliciting for used clothing, cars, furniture and other in-kind gifts, find out how they benefit. Sometimes the charity receives only a small portion of the resale price of the item or may have a contractual arrangement to get a flat fee for every household pick-up, no matter what the contents. Seek Out Financial Information. Verify the accuracy of financial information in veterans’ organizations appeals. Check out the charity’s report on BBB’s Give.org or review the charity’s website for its latest financial information. The BBB Standards for Charity Accountability call for a charity to spend at least 65% of its total expenses on program service activities, as opposed to fundraising and administrative costs. For more tips on giving to charities including mailing list removal, car donations, and sweepstakes appeals, visit our giving guidance and tips page.

MIKE BUDER It’s closing day! Everything has gone like clockwork and you have nothing but the closing between you and home ownership! Planning to sleep in your new home tonight? Better have a Plan B. THE PLAN: You’ll spend an hour at the title company signing all the closing documents and then receive the keys to your new kingdom. You’ll head straight to your new home with a loaded moving truck already in the driveway and a dozen friends and family there ready to move you in. THE REALITY: The phone rings just hours before closing. The underwriters have been doing their final perusals before issuing the closing package. They have hit a snag. (I’ll leave it at that…what form those snags can take in this new world for lending is unpredictable). Your loan officer assures you that it will be worked out. But… your closing is going to be delayed! A couple of hours? Maybe. A full day or even two? Possibly. PLAN B: First, let’s talk about what Plan B is not. It is not you will call your agent and ask them to get you the keys so you can move in anyway. Without a special agreement and a special insurance endorsement in place prior to the move in, the seller would have tremendous insurance liability and legal risks to allow such a move. Since you did not close, your homeowner’s policy is not in effect. A BETTER PLAN B: Give yourself a buffer of at least a day between closing and moving in. If you want to move in on the weekend, don’t set your closing on Friday, because if things go south you will be waiting until Monday to close. If you absolutely must move in on your scheduled closing day, negotiate ahead of time, through your agent, exactly what will happen if your closing is delayed. Keep in mind, the seller is not required to give you occupancy until you own the home. Above all, understand that some things are simply out of the hands of even the best lenders, agents and attorneys. Plan B may not necessarily be your ideal, but it is always better than the alternative…especially if you don’t have one! If you are looking to buy or sell real estate call Mike Buder at RE/MAX 2000 (708) 418-4444, E-mail: mikebuder@ remax.net, Website: www.BuderHomes.com or Facebook Friend request Mike Buder: your comments are always welcome. A client delivered a medical bill and other papers to our Merrillville office and asked that I review the items. The client is from Saint John, Indiana. I found some problems and inconsistencies with the bill and related papers. The medical firm wanted our client to pay $2,123.86. But, I believed that the correct amount that our client should pay was only $500. I wrote a letter to the law firm that was hired to collect from our client. I have dealt with this law firm often. They treat me in a professional and pleasant way and I treat them in the same manner. My letter explained what I saw as inconsistencies in some of the documents that related to the bill that our client received. I explained how I calculated what I believed was the correct amount owed. On June 12, 2018, I received a phone call from the law firm. They agreed that I brought to their attention some very reasonable points. They agreed to accept $500 as payment in full from our client. Also, the law firm assured me that the collection matter would not be reported to any credit bureau. Thus, my effort saved our client $1,623.86 and a credit blemish. All the help that I gave this client was FREE OF CHARGE. This insurance agency is proud of having a reputation of “going the extra mile” for our clients. If your insurance agency does not give this high level of customer service, maybe you should become a client of our insurance agency. Note: Woodrow Wilcox is the senior medical bill case worker at Senior Care Insurance Services in Merrillville, Indiana. He has saved clients of that insurance agency over two million dollars by fighting mistakes and fraud in the Medicare system. He wrote the book SOLVING MEDICARE PROBLEM$ (www.SolvingMedicareProblems. com) and posts articles at www.WoodrowWilcox.com.

Financial Advice Column

Where You Live as Retiree Can Affect Financial Strategies BOB KRYGSHELD Upon retiring, many people relocate to enjoy a more favorable climate, or to be closer to grown children, or to live in an area they’ve visited and enjoyed. If you, too, are thinking of moving someday, you’ll want to study possible locations, but you also need to be aware that where you eventually decide to live can greatly affect your savings and investment strategies – both now and during your retirement. Here are some relocation costs to consider: • Housing – Not surprisingly, the larger the city, the more expensive the housing is likely to be. Also, locations near an ocean or the mountains tend to be more costly. But the type of housing you select – house, apartment or condominium – also can affect your financial picture in terms of initial expense, maintenance and possible tax benefits. Plus, you can now find newer types of arrangements, such as senior cooperative housing, in which you own a share of the community and have a voice in how it’s run. • Health care – If you are 65 or older when you retire, you’ll have Medicare to cover some of your health care costs, though you’ll still likely need to purchase some type of supplemental coverage. However, out-of-pocket health care expenses may vary in different parts of the country, so this is something else you’ll want to check out before relocating. Of course, the availability of good medical facilities may be just as important to you as health care costs. • Taxes – You may hear about people moving to a different state to lower their tax burden during retirement. A few states don’t have personal state income taxes, and many others offer favorable tax breaks on retirement income, so, if taxes are a major concern, you’ll want to research the tax situation of prospective retirement locations. You may also want to consult with your tax advisor. These aren’t all the areas you will need to consider when estimating your total cost of living in a retirement destination, but they should give you a good idea of what you can expect. And your choice of where to live as a retiree can affect your financial strategy in at least two ways: how you invest today and how much you can withdraw from your retirement accounts when you’re retired. Regarding how you invest today, you should evaluate whether your current investment strategy is likely to produce the resources needed to support you adequately in the retirement location you’ve chosen. So, for example, if you think you’re going to live in a fairly expensive place, you may need to reduce your expenses, delay retirement or work part time. Your choice of a retirement destination also may affect how much money you withdraw each year from your 401(k) and IRA. When choosing an appropriate withdrawal rate, you’ll need to consider other variables – your age, the amount of money in your retirement accounts, other available assets, etc. – but your cost of living will be a key factor. A financial professional can help you determine the withdrawal rate that’s right for you. When you retire, it can be a great feeling to live where you want, but you’ll enjoy it more if you’re fully aware of the costs involved – and the financial steps you’ll need to take. Munster’s Wilbur Wright Middle School Has Model Counseling Program Wilbur Wright Middle School of Munster, IN was among 70 schools were recognized by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) as model programs. Indiana surpassed the record number of schools for one state in a given year receiving the Recognized ASCA Model Program (RAMP) designation with 69 schools receiving this honor. “I commend our Indiana schools for receiving this designation and for leading the nation in the number of RAMP designated schools,” said Dr. Jennifer McCormick, State Superintendent of Public Instruction. “Receiving the RAMP designation evidences the importance of school counselor leadership which is foundational for students to be academically, socially, and emotionally successful.” RAMP designation, awarded for aligning with the criteria in the ASCA National Model, recognizes schools committed to delivering an exemplary comprehensive, data-driven school counseling program. Since the program’s inception, more than 800 schools across the United States have been designated as RAMP recipients. This year, 140 schools nationwide will receive the RAMP designation. Schools were recently honored during ASCA’s annual conference in Los Angeles, California. Real Estate Questions & Answers CATHY & JIM HIGGINS Question: Since we bought our home, we’ve had an endless stream of maintenance problems. The house is only about five years old, but everything seems to be going wrong. For example, two of the faucets started leaking. Then one of the toilets became clogged. After that, the front door began rubbing against the jamb, making it hard to close. This is the first home we’ve ever owned. We hired an inspector before buying it, but none of these problems was disclosed in the report. What can we do, now that we’re stuck with this lemon? Answer: If the problems on your list were serious or unusual, 98 percent of the homes in America would be lemons. In fact, the symptoms you have noted would tend to make your home as normal as mine. If faucets, doors, dishwashers did not require periodic maintenance, that would be a noteworthy abnormality. A common misconception among firsttime homebuyers is the expectation that homeownership is a turnkey operation, that a well-built house in good condition will tend to remain that way without timely offerings of effort by the owners. Homeownership, in a sense, should be viewed as a part-time hobby, one that

requires ongoing participation and weekly contributions of time, money and sweat. As newly initiated homeowners, it may be time to buy yourselves a set of handyman tools and a book on routine property maintenance. Don’t try to tackle any serious issues such as electrical problems or conditions involving gasburning fixtures. Items of that nature should be delegated to licensed experts. However, simple repairs, such as changing the washer in a leaky faucet, are skills worth learning. You have embarked upon the lifelong pastime of homeownership. Acquiring the basic skills of common home repairs will increase your pride of ownership, save you worthwhile sums of money, and keep you from over-responding to minor routine defects. It is an ongoing process of learning. Enjoy the journey. E-mail us your Real estate questions at: Cathyah@aol.com. Thinking of Selling your Home? THE ORSINI MEN WERE COOKING UP A STORM AT AMERICAN LEGION POST 261 IN CEDAR LAKE: While Dad Frank Orsini Sr. was enjoying his walleye in the post dining room, his son Frank Jr. and Frank III were it the kitchen frying up a storm. From time to time, I take my older kids to a friend’s farm to pull weeds for awhile. It’s a win-win-win: my kids learn the value of hard work and hard-earned cash, I connect with my farm roots, and my friend gets some weeds pulled. What’s more, farming connects with life on so many levels, providing teachable moments. What are weeds? Weeds are uninvited guests who crash the party, then put down roots without your blessing. Unless you kick them out, they will grow and grow. They will take over, choking out every green thing you planted. Finally, they will go to seed and multiply many times over. However, if you’re vigilant about evicting weeds early and often, your good plants have a chance to grow and fill the space provided. The bigger they grow, the harder it is for uninvited weeds to take root and access the moisture and sunlight they need

to grow and take over. Finally, your mature plants bear fruit. Now you get to pluck fruit, not pull weeds! Like weeds, undesirable patterns and perspectives quickly take root in our lives, uninvited, then take over, crowding out the positive patterns and perspectives we’re trying to cultivate. Unless we’re vigilant about evicting them, they will produce a harvest quite different from the one we wanted. However, those who are vigilant in the war against weeds early on will find it gets easier as the particular habit they wish to cultivate grows and matures, producing enjoyable fruit. The Bible says, “The one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up” (Galatians 6:8b-9). Richard Zekveld, Pastor, Covenant Fellowship Church

YOU MEET THE NICEST PEOPLE IN WALT’S FOODS IN SOUTH HOLL AND: If you think this beautiful lady looks familiar--you are right. Her name is Ora Henry of South Holland and she for many years she was the former owner of Ora’s Boutique in Harvey. Ora’s fabulous outfit is one of many of her personal creations in a collection that she still owns (she has 1,200 hats, 1,000 pair of shoes and 1,000 suits in various sizes and colors) that she lends out for fashion shows (the hats at least) and consults on a regular basis. A member of Zion Travelers Church in South Holland, Ora has made her hats available for fashion shows and other charitable events at many non profits such as churches in the area. When N 2 N caught up with Ora she was shopping for her grandchildren’s treats to enjoy when they came to visit her. “I love to shop at Walt’s,” she noted. “It has everything I need and easy to find items.” Over the years Ora has had many businesses in the South Suburbs, but the one she is most remembered for is her Harvey Boutique and judging from her smart ensemble, she is still a walking billboard for fashion. If you would like to talk to Ora about her fashions or items for fashion shows, call her at 708-210-9531.
