Robert C. Shoemaker, age 82, of Dyer, IN, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 14, 2023. Loving husband for over 53 years, to April D. Shoemaker, nee Metcalf. Devoted father of Erin Joy (Colin) Brown, and Robert G. (Eliza Jane) Shoemaker. Cherished grandfather of Ivy Pearl. Dear brother of the late Bill Shoemaker, Kay (late Moe) Pratt, Beverly (Robert) Blandford, and James (late Pat) Shoemaker. Kind uncle of many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Ivy Shoemaker. Robert was a proud Elder, Deacon, and member of Dyer Presbyterian Church, and Lay Pastor to multiple area churches, for many years. Robert started working at 14 for Burger’s Grocery. He went onto an apprenticeship to become a machinist which paid his way through college at Purdue University where he graduated with a degree in Engineering. After a career in the steel industry, he found his niche teaching at Prairie State College from where he finally retired, completing a very full 55 years of working. Robert had many hobbies throughout his life most notably woodworking in his workshop at home where he happily taught his son what he knew, to traveling out west to Colorado and the Rockies he loved so much starting from his first trip out west in 1949 that he was still recounting until the end; a passion he passed on to his children. Robert was loved by many, and will be dearly missed. He absolutely loved greeting everyone who entered the church doors. He also enjoyed volunteering at Roseland Christian Ministries. Jerry and his wife, Joyce, both loved to travel together. We are thankful that they are now reunited in their heavenly home.
