MINISTRY BROCHURE
Welcome to the Ministry Brochure!
What is a ministry brochure? A menu of events? A compendium of activities? A smorgasbord of groups? A reference booklet of ministries? This brochure is really an opportunity to find something God is doing at VPC to pray for in your daily devotion. It is a chance to try a new venture where your gifts might shine or your faith deepen. It is an invitation you may share with someone else to help them grow, serve, or connect.
David Joynt Senior Pastor
Read. Enjoy. Then be creative with the ways you use all the information you discuss about our events, activities, groups and ministries. God will call to you in the details and possibilities.

Why is this Ministry Brochure lighter? We are all coming out of an unprecedented year, a year that saw cancellations of almost all of our activities. At VPC, we are eager to resume all of the classes, programs, and studies that create a vital community committed to doing God’s work in the world. Because your health and safety are our priority, we are bringing opportunities back slowly, and we hope more will be available as the situation allows.

Sunday Worship Worship Safely
We are all praying that circumstances in 2021 will allow us to begin to ease some of the mitigation protocols that VPC has put in place to make being on campus as safe as possible. We adhere to CDC guidelines and the recommendations from Arizona Public Health officials. The health and safety of those who come on campus for worship and all other opportunities is our priority. We ask anyone who would like to attend worship to RSVP to let us know you are coming: vpc.church/return.
8:30AM, Sanctuary
VPC’s first service includes music, prayer, space for kids, preaching, scripture, and an emphasis on community. Music is commonly led by one of VPC’s Choral Ensembles and accompanied by our organ.
10:30AM, Sanctuary
Worship at 10:30AM has all of the same elements as 8:30AM, but music is led by a band with drums, guitar, and bass. Whether you decide to attend a specific service because of the time or musical style, you will find space to listen to where God may be leading you, where your heart can be put at ease and your troubles left at the door.
Livestream
8:30 & 10:30AM Services We invite you to join us from wherever you are on Sunday mornings, as well! The livestream is of the whole service, and is a great way to stay connected if you’re unable to make it to campus. You can watch the livestream from several platforms:

Every two seconds, someone in the U.S. needs blood. The need for blood is constant, but only thee percent of the U.S. population donates. By rolling up a sleeve, donors can play a critical role in the treatment of accident and burn victims, heart surgery and organ transplant patients, and those receiving treatment for leukemia, cancer or sickle cell disease.

Staff Appreciation
After-Care Ministry
Members of this ministry provide follow-up contact for people released from hospitals and rehabilitation clinics, connecting them to support ministries such as Tasty Spoon, Stephen Ministry, or Pet Pause.
Baby Welcome
A small group of Deacons make contact with new VPC parents after they have a baby. They deliver a basket of gifts and provide the family with information on baptism, the nursery, Valley Day School, MOPS programs and Tasty Spoon.
Care Packages
Members of this team send care packages for college students and active military personnel periodically through the year to express our love to our members who are temporarily away from home. Items include food, inspirational mementos and a message from the pastors.
Communion Preparation
An energetic group meets the first Saturday of every month to prepare the communion elements used for the next day’s worship services. They make sure that each of our worship centers is perfectly ordered for the joyous and holy partaking of the Lord’s Supper.
Deacon Fund
This committee oversees the distribution of the funds that have been generously donated to the VPC community for the work of the ministries of the Deacons, bringing encouragement to the sick and lonely; supporting those in need; providing a comforting friend in a time of loss and a witness to the hope we have in Christ.

Flower Ministry
VPC members trained to be an on-campus welcoming presence to assist guests by helping them find the services they are seeking, and answer questions or direct them to additional resources.
An innovative team of Deacons blesses staff members by holding a luncheon in the honor of the Church staff and Valley Day School staff three times a year, as well as providing a little gift for each staff member to celebrate their birthday or ministry milestone.
Tasty Spoon
This team galvanizes congregational members to cook meals for someone who is homebound, sick, recently released from hospital or had a baby.
Telephone Reception
This team recruits volunteers to staff the switchboard at the main reception desk on Sunday mornings from 1011AM. They train the volunteers to use the church phone and provide them with information that might be helpful when people approach with questions. During these uncertain times many ministry areas are not able to perform their standard duties. We have created two temporary ministries to help our congregation stay connected:
Awaken Café
A number of our current Deacons are volunteer baristas at Awaken on Sunday mornings. Drop by for a cup of coffee or hot chocolate before or after worship!
Angel Cards
Our Deacons and other volunteers are busy touching base with members who have not been able to attend inperson worship. A simple card to let someone know that their church is thinking and praying for them can have a significant effect. If you would like to help with any of our Deacon Ministries, please contact Pastor David Turner.

History of the Foundation
The purpose of this Foundation is to do the long-term thinking and executing of plans for capital gifts that the congregation will need for the upkeep of VPC’s buildings and for the purposes of its life and mission in the decades and centuries ahead. We are a young church... but we must plan for the long future... This trust will produce income for our life as a congregation and for our support of the Mission of Christ throughout the world. —VPC Senior Pastor L. Wilson Kilgore, March 22, 1976

MentorKids USA through the First Fruits The First Fruits Fund is designed to teach youth how to grow and market produce within their community. Currently, this fund supports the work of MentorKids USA’s after-school program. The program cultivates skills in gardening and healthy living with the goal to connect youth to their Creator, their Capability, and their Community.

Scholarship Fund The Erickson, Patterson, and Simmons Funds distributed $22,500 in scholarships in 2020 to undergraduate, graduate, and trade school studentsthe largest ever. Requirements: be a VPC member, child of a VPC member, or a VPC staff member. Music Fund Under the direction of Jennifer Hamm, our beloved Minister of Music, VPF helps provide funding for two concerts per year, plus funding special needs like topnotch guest musicians who enhance worship services and performances. Building Fund The Building Committee is happy to report that work on A New Heart for the Valley Capital Campaign is complete! The beautiful new Sanctuary was completed Summer 2020 with completely refurbished organ, new sound system, and visuals. The Education Building was finished in November, the beautiful new Awaken Plaza has the finishing touch of green grass and the fabulous Awaken Café is open and ready for business!
