To coincide with each sermon series, David writes daily devotionals that expand on the ideas and inspiration of each Sunday's sermon. Devotionals available in Worship Centers and online: vpc.church/devo Here's an excerpt from today's devotional: “FAITH FIGHTS!” 1 TIMOTHY 6:11-12 | But as for you, man of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith; take hold of the eternal life, to which you were called and for which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Faithful Life takes faith.
Paul tells Timothy, his protégé, to fight the good fight of the faith, and to take hold of eternal life. I love the utter realism of the NT about faith—it will involve battles, and every disciple is de facto a warrior. Sometimes, our faith is presented as a serene pleasure cruise, but this kind of image is incompatible with genuine faith; it is an escapist fantasy. Peace amid struggle is the promise of Christ. Where is the conflict zone in your life? How well equipped are you for the battle?
